3 stars because the place itself is nice. I booked with Nathan due to another Yelp-er's recommendation... I have pretty thick hair that I wanted some layers in. I showed Nathan a picture of what I was looking for and we had a good consultation. I was satisfied walking out of the salon because he blew my hair out really nicely, but here I am a few days later panicking because the layers of my own hair just look like AWFUL extensions. I blew my hair out at home (usually I just air dry, and mentioned this to Nathan) and I cannot describe how choppy it looks. Eek. I'm reluctant to even try to fix this because I don't want to lose any more hair, and it's a shame that this cut was over $100 with tip. I'd book with someone else next time. read more

I've been going to the north loop location for a couple of years now, and I'm very happy with my stylist and the ambiance of the salon. Meg is wonderful with my southeast Asian curly hair, which is sometimes hard to work with. She doesn't push any products from the shop on me which I really appreciate, but I did decide to buy one recently (I wanted to, no sales tactics needed) and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the price was the same as elsewhere online, with no upcharge. read more

I've gone here a few times now and most recently, I've had two haircuts with Rebecca and she's fantastic! I loved both cuts by her. She really knows what to do with my hair type. I have wavy, thick, and somewhat coarse and dry hair. The first time that it grew out, it did exactly as she said. If air dried, it would be fine. If styled, It would be fine. Nathan cut my hair at HAUS and it was a wonderful experience. Loved the products used and my hair feels and looks like silk. I am terrible at giving hair directions but Nathan was able to deliver my dream hair. The vibe is very North Loop, upscale and industrial. Overall a good experience. I came in for an eyebrow tweeze in preparation for my wedding. I love that they offer this service. I've been on prescription Tretinoin forever and I've had a bad experience with my skin peeling off from a wax at another salon. It's been hard to find a place to get my brows done. Christina did an awesome job making them look perfect. They were even able to accommodate a last minute brow tint which made my brows look even better! I had such a amazing experience at Haus. I really enjoyed that their colorists and stylists are separate which makes sure you are getting the best of each aspect. Both my colorist and Stylist made me feel like we were collaborating on what my hair would look like. They asked me a lot of questions to make sure what they were creating was perfect. For the first time ever, I didn't leave my hair appointment and instantly throw my hair in a ponytail because it was shorter than I expected or not right and I felt self conscious. I've gone to two different haus salons in minneapolis now and so I feel like I can write an accurate review. I first went to the NE location for a post pregnancy hair chop. Those who have had the hair fall after pregnancy know what I'm talking about. My haircut was good and nothing too much to write home about. The styling was also nice. Over all I give 'em 4 stars. Now here is the part about Haus that I have not experienced anywhere else. The people that cut hair don't color hair. Is that weird to anyone else? Anywho, 3 years later I go in to get an all over grey coverage service. My hair is black and I don't have too much grey though it was quite grown out so not just a root job. Steven did an excellent job and I am very happy with the color. Only thing that slightly annoyed me is that he choose a semi perm hair color instead of a permanent hair color and didn't tell me till mid process. Over all a solid 4 star experience. read more

I asked for a balayage with highlights and had several reference photos...we agreed that one of the reference photos wasn't too different than just dark hair with some dimension so then we went on to other photos which were lighter and agreed on what needed to be done. After an hour and a half, my hair had no changes. It looked the exact same after it was blow dried. I was speechless because I had sat there for some time while my hair was processing but processing for what????? I went to Hannah at the North Loop location for a haircut in February and have considered writing this review ever since. This was my first time seeing her and I popped in for a quick trim before attending my brother's 40th birthday party. I told her I wanted my hair cut to my shoulders with long layers (I have a very basic haircut that I assumed anyone could do). Everything seemed fine and normal and i put my chin on my chest so that she could start on the back of my head- when I lifted my head she had cut my hair to my CHIN. My entire neck was exposed and at that point there was literally no turning back. I left the salon with a botched BOB that I never requested. It is now mid July and my hair is finally touching my shoulders. My advice: don't assume that all stylists are created equally just because they work for a brand name salon. read more

I just had an incredible experience at Haus Salon! It was my first time there, and my first time getting my hair cut in 4+ years. I really wanted curtain bangs that would look good with my hair pulled up since I wear it up at work most of the time. Check-in was easy and fast, and the kind folks up front were so polite and welcoming! There was a nice little beverage cooler with refreshments as well, and the atmosphere felt so relaxing. I saw Lincoln, who did an incredible job! The shampoo was very relaxing, and he patiently and gently brushed out my wrist-length hair. The cut itself was a treat as well, and he did a fantastic job of asking good questions up front and getting the vision I wanted, so I had full confidence the whole time! He mentioned the possibility of a transition between my bangs and the rest of the hair, and he did an incredible job of walking me through a few options and helping find what will work best for me. My hair turned out better than I imagined, and it functions in a way that will be great in my everyday life. Lincoln also asked if I wanted to be able to tuck it behind my ears while I'm at work, which was so thoughtful of him to take into account! He made sure I loved it before we ended the session, and then check out was also incredibly easy too! The kind people at the front were so complimentary and already knew my name and had everything pulled up by the time I got to the counter. They accommodated my cash gratuity, and my card payment was also extremely quick and simple. They made me feel welcome and conducted every part of my guest experience with smoothness and ease! Overall, I'm blown away by this overwhelmingly positive experience, and I doubt I'll go to another stylist or salon again! I'd happily pay 3x more than I did to have Lincoln do my hair, and I look forward to more great experiences in the future! read more

I'm writing this to say a few things about my experience at this salon. I've been going to see Joy for over a year & haven't had bad experiences with her, so I really don't know what it was that happened this time. I went in w dark brown level 3 hair w the blonde front pieces. I decided that I wanted to start going blonde. I have been growing my hair out for 2 year with almost all of it being virgin hair besides the front pieces & was ready to start the process of going blonde all over. I went in & I showed her the pictures of what I wanted which I felt like were pretty reasonable & also mentioned that if she felt like she needed to stop, to stop, as I wanted to save my hair more than I wanted to be blonde. We started doing my hair & I have a lot of hair, so the amount of time I was in & out of her chair felt very fast. Because of COVID, rules have changed so they are no longer allowing blow drying in the salon. That's fine, I trusted her & what she said on how it was looking when she said it was looking good. I went home & blow dried it & found patches & the base/shadow root we talked about was brought down too far like an ombré & it was stripey & it just wasn't what I asked for like even remotely. So I sent her a message w the pictures & she let me come back in that weekend to get it adjusted, which was great. Except that my hair turned out even worse. I came in that Saturday & she apologized & we talked about what we were going to do to fix it. I figured it would be a simple fix, so I don't know what happened. She did my hair & sent me home in a hair mask. I get home & start washing my hair & in the shower as I'm rinsing out the hair mask I feel my hair melting off into my hands & breaking off in clumps. My hair has never felt this bad before. I texted my friend who moved my haircut appt up to the following day & we ended up cutting a bunch of my hair because of how damaged it is. I got a call today about getting a refund only to find out I am not allowed to book there again. I'm not heartbroken about not being able to book there again, because I wouldn't anyways, but it's weird that it's like I'm being punished for my hair being completely ruined & didn't even get a 100% refund? I first went to Haus back in January and immediate fell in love with it. I went to Katie and felt like her services were near perfect! She had great conversation and was very intuitive. When I went back to her months later, she somehow seemed to remember most everything we talked about and followed up on previous conversation. She gave me a cut, shorter than I'd have before and I loved it! It's the best service I've had in Minneapolis thus far. The only thing that would make it 5 stars is if they added more diversity when it comes to their stylists and what kind of hair they know how to do. I'd love to see more stylists proficient in knowing how to do more 4a, b and c types of curls, which I don't typically see advertised. Tl;dr - Be prepared to shell out $300 for highlights and a trim. A different person will see you for each hair on your head. A random dude will be standing there just staring at you. They use particle boards instead of chairs while they wash your hair. Look my hair came out ok. I have sandy blond, medium/long, Caucasian hair. The poor review isn't just due to the hair cut and highlights, although these weren't the best (they also aren't the worst). It's this salon's weird awful communication. Maybe some of the points below are your thing, maybe they aren't, but it's a list of things I wish I'd have known prior to going. 1) I called to make an appointment for a hair-trim and highlights. My hair is honestly super straightforward - I literally just wanted to trim the ends and do highlights on the ~ 1/2 inch roots. No problem, got an appointment right away. However - and guys this is what you need to KNOW - this is the kind of salon that has 1 person highlight your hair, 1 person watching, 1 person shampooing your hair, and 1 person trimming your hair. This was NOT communicated to me, and IS the kind of thing that matters to me. 2) The whole thing cost $265. Can I swear on my review? Because never in my life have I spent $265 on a hair trim and highlights for 1/2 inch of roots. It's bullshit. The website says it should have been $150 - with the caveat of a + sign, which I guess means plus or minus $115. Wtf wtf wtf. 3) They don't have chairs for the shampoo, they have "beds". No these aren't comfortable. They are awful. Remember that time you laid down on a hard table that one time? And it sucked? Yeah well now you have to lay there for 10 minutes (or more) while the shampoo teenager you don't know sticks her boobs in your face because washing hair on a table be like that. I felt like I was in Soylent Green about to die. 4) Ok so the hair trim was just - ugh. I say I want a trim because I'm growing it out, so please take as little off as possible. I just want to trim the bad ends. Now, these instructions have never caused a panic before. But they do at this salon. Literally was pelted with concerned questions: what about bangs? Do I want bangs? (What? Why would I want bangs?) Would I rather have 1/2 inch or 1 inch off? Or more?? (What? I want a trim.. I want to grow my hair out. Take as little off as possible). What about layers? Do I want to keep those? (Look I don't know. I like my hair style and am trying to grow my hair out. You're the hair cutter). And on and on with the questions. 5) Dudes. They all asked me about my part. Then when the highlights didn't come out very well, she came over and explained that it's my fault for not telling her the right "part" for my hair. So now the haircutter and highlighter and blaming me for telling them the wrong "part." What? I told three different people where I part my hair. Maybe if one person cut and highlighted, THIS WOULDNT BE A PROBLEM. I'm just over this salon. Who was the guy starring at me the entire time???? Why was this not explained. Why is everyone so ""specialized" that they need one person highlighting, one trimming, and one shampooing? Get over yoursselves and hire hairstylists, not seventeen different specialists. And for $265, maybe use a round brush on me. read more

I love HAUS!!! I've been here many times for full foils and haircuts and I've seen multiple artists for both. They are professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and genuine. I'd recommend going to HAUS' website to check out the artists' histories, specialities, prices, etc. Speaking of, I feel the prices are fair for the level of care and quality the artists exhibit. The location itself is extremely clean and easily accessible. It is full of natural light and plants! Street parking may be difficult to snag but there are lots/ramps nearby. read more

So let's say this is a 3.5 The first time I came here, the woman who colored my hair ended up bleaching it too light and all my baby hair started to break off in the front. I came back to get it corrected & she no longer worked there. I decided to get bangs & loved how Kate cut my hair. But then when I came back to get a bang trim, she had left also. I saw another woman and did not like how my bangs looked as much as when Kate cut them. Then I scheduled an appointment with the colorist who corrected my hair (she did a fantastic job AND gave me a complimentary deep condition), and now she no longer works there either. I have decided to find another salon- it's too much work to keep meeting with a new colorist and a new stylist each time, not knowing if I'll end up liking my hair or not. read more

My hair stylist moved to Arizona and didn't notify me so I was in extreme panic mode looking for a new one. I'd known about HAUS for some time but was reluctant because of the price tag. When you have textured hair you can't afford to risk it! I figured this was my time to give it a try. I called and asked who had the most experience with textured hair and was told to book with "Tanya" I couldn't be more thankful to whomever I spoke to that day. Upon arriving I was greeted by smiles and they offered to take my jacket AND take care of my meter but I'd already taken care of it on the mobile app. I sat in the quaint sitting area where there were refreshments and magazines for your leisure. Tanya came to greet me and we walked back to her chair. She asked me what I wanted and also asked about how I manage and care for my hair which I thought was really cool. I have a lot of hair so it was a long process but she knew exactly what to do. If Tanya can handle my hair type I'm sure she can do fabulous things with hair that's easier to style. I've been going to Haus for ~5 years. I had a great experience starting out and was able to book appointments at reasonable times. Loved both my colorist and stylist. Flash forward to today and I'm cutting ties with the company altogether. The earliest they can get me in for bleach/tones is about 3+ months out. When I return, I'm reprimanded for waiting so long and charged extra. I've also had my colorist cancel last minute. This wouldn't be an issue, but the earliest they could rebook my appointment was 3 months out (again). When I returned, I was (again), charged extra. The colorists and stylists are talented. There's no doubt about that. But I can't pay Haus prices with such poor service. Furthermore, the only available times are during the day/noon, which I can afford to do every so often, but not every single time. Really sad and disappointed with them. read more

I've seen Landyn for two haircuts and Alexa for a highlighting appointment over the past several months, and they've both been wonderful! When I first saw Landyn, I had little plans for what I wanted and just let her do her thing after answering a couple of questions. She did an absolutely amazing job with the very little guidance she had to work with. My return trim was just as great. She's incredibly talented, and I love talking with her during my appointments as well. A few weeks after seeing Landyn for the first time, I noticed what an awful job a previous colorist had done with my highlights months back, so I booked an appointment with Alexa. While I think some of the overbleaching the previous stylist did is mostly just irreparable, Alexa added some strategically placed highlights in to make my hair look so much more cohesive. Being new to the city I needed a new stylist. My hair was starting to look like a witches broomstick so I had to let go of the strong-hold of, "I'll wait until I get back to Boston to see my trusty stylist". Awhile back I had randomly met Charlie, one of the owners, and was dazzled by what a nice guy he was- so I knew Haus would be my first stop When the time came. I was able to get a next day appointment online with Anna. When I arrived I was greeted by a very pleasant lady who offered to take my jacket and showed me where I could help myself to refreshments. I am immediately wowed by how gorgeous the space is. It's bright and open with an edgy touch. Anna welcomed me within minutes of my arrival and lead the way. As scary as it is to work with a new stylist, I felt really comfortable in her hands. She asked me what I was looking for, and didn't make the disappointed face when all I really wanted was a trim. Whomever designed the washing station is a genius- it was the most comfortable I have ever been while having my hair washed. Anna added to the experience by explaining why she chose each product for my hair and then gave me an awesome scalp massage. I asked her about treatments (think witches broomstick) and she again explained what my choice were. During the cut she was SO gentle. It's not that I need gentle, I just didn't know it was possible. As she worked I felt like I had tiny faeries fluttering about my head... it was incredibly relaxing. And I noticed I wasn't the only one relaxed, Anna looked like she genuinely enjoy what she was doing. Honestly, I felt like I could sit there all day. My hair trim felt like a spa treatment, no kidding. I would highly recommend Anna and I look forward to checking out the other services available at Haus. It will certainly be my go-to! read more

What a great experience to end 2015! It was late Wednesday afternoon and I was in desperate need of a haircut and a little pampering before the long weekend. I checked on the reviews, thanks Yelpers, and remembered how many times I've walked by their big loft style windows and decided to check them out. Booking my appointment online was a breeze. I got a call a couple of hours later asking if I wouldn't mind coming in early, as I'm a new client and my stylist wanted to make sure we had ample time. Anna was warm, knowledgeable and professional. She gave a killer head massage and talked me through every stage of the appointment. I knew exactly what and why I was getting the amazing cut that I got. They had an assortment of tea, water, Spyhouse coffee and I saw plenty a patron with wine and beer. I love my cut and the experience. I promptly booked my next appointment with their friendly receptionist. The cut wasn't cheap, but I firmly believe you get what you pay for. *Tip: They have a great map on their website in regards to different areas to park and the different price points. I went to see Tricia for my first ever **brazilian** and I'll be totally honest- I've been too bashful and afraid to do it so I was definitely scared. She is amazing, fast, and while I won't say it's a pain free process she makes it as seamless as possible. The pain was minimal and better than any eyebrow or upper lip experience I've ever had and she takes any embarrassment right out of the room. Do yourself a favor and get with it. I'm so bummed. I was looking forward to my experience here. I have been bleaching my hair for years and was fine with the products. I came in a was double booked. They didn't wash all of my product out. I ended up going in urgent care the next day because I had hives, swollen head and ears. All of my skin in these areas blistered off. I called the salon and they said they have never seen this happen.. and didn't offer any reimbursement or credit, after my appointment that cost $400. About a week later my color had completed faded. My beloved nail person retired in August, and after being with her for 4 years, I was at a loss for who to see. I decided to give Haus Salon (North Loop location) a try. I have to say that there was nothing bad about my experience - the front desk staff was polite and offered me water, coffee, tea, and other beverages. The waiting area was fine. The space is very open and industrial/modern. Jan is their nail tech, and she was prompt in taking me back for my appointment. Technically, there was nothing wrong with Jan's work. I liked how she shaped my nails - though when I did ask for them to be rounded (I have found that when squared off, that corner tends to get chipped), she noted that the shape of my nail bed says they "should" be squared off. I found that odd and a little passive aggressive (if I explain how I want my nails done and a reason for why, I don't see a need for the comment, but okay). The rest of the service was nice. She wasn't overly talkative. I have been getting soak-off gels on my nails for 4 years - rotating between OPI soak-off gel and Harmony Gelish. I like both products. I decided to get gels again. Unfortunately, Haus Salon only has CND Shellac. And they cure with a UV (not an LED light). I decided to give it a try. My main issue is with the quality of the CND Shellac. The application is thin, and Jan cured each coat for 2 minutes under UV light. Now, I am not a nail tech, but given that I've had my nails done (acrylics, gels, biosculpture, you name it, I've done it or looked into it), for 12 years, I do know a bit about it. And there really isn't a reason to cure for 2 minutes between each coat (I also checked with my previous nail people to see if I was wrong, and they agreed with me). Now if the cure was 30-45 seconds, I would be okay with that amount of UV exposure, but 6 minutes of direct UV exposure for each hand just doesn't sound right to me (or healthy if you are doing this over time). When I left, the nails looked good. When checking out, the front desk person was nice and did ask if I'd like to book my next appointment, which I appreciated. About 4 days later, two nails began lifting at the tips. Now, I will admit if I have been picking at things with my nails or was cutting vegetables and sliced into the gel, but I was being particularly cautious with my nails given it was a product I had on my hands for the first time. After a week, several more nails lifted at the sides. I ended up scraping off all of the gels (bad, I know), with my own nail and some acetone. The fact that I could do it so easily with a less than 15 minute soak off just indicated to me that the product is not durable. There was no way that would have lasted the advertised 14 days. Maybe it was because I am still looking for an experience akin to my previous nail place and am nitpicking, but I didn't even want to go back to have Jan redo them, as she would just use the same product, and the same thing would probably happen. The price for her gel nails is also $5 more than my old nail place (located in the same neighborhood). I did not feel like anything in the product and service merited a $5 increase. It was similar to, but I would have priced it closer to $45 given that the CND Shellac is an inferior product to OPI and Gelish. Jan was nice. The staff was nice. It was just that the whole experience did not live up to what I was used to at my previous place. This may sound crazy, but I was looking to find a new place where the staff is eager to get you in as a recurring client and is warm. I felt the people at Haus Salon were nice but not warm. I realize that I am being extremely picky. I tried another high end salon for their gel nails, and it just wasn't the same as my previous experience. So I'm sure people who are not as picky as me would find this experience to be good. If Haus Salon were to switch their product, I might come back. Note about parking: I live less than a mile away and opted to walk, as driving a mile seemed a little silly. It's a good thing I did - parking is pretty impossible around that area. The meters fill up quickly (and rarely does anyone move their car on Washington). There is a pay lot across the street, but that is about $5 minimum (if it's not a Twins' game day). Whether it's worth it to drive around for 10 minutes looking for parking or to pay $5 for parking for your nail appointment is up to you. If you can, I'd suggest parking closer to 4th and 5th Avenues and walking. read more

I absolutely LOVE HAUS Salon on Washington Ave in the North Loop. From the minute you walk in you're greeted and checked in with such professionalism as well as feeling welcomed. I have been going to the salon for a year and a half and should have written this review many appointments ago, but the biggest part of my 5 star review is I have never waited past my appointment time and sat and wondered "do they know I am here?" The attention to detail from the highly trained staff is so appreciated, I just can't give enough such high regards to all. From the coffee/drink station, they have it all figured out. I see Lauren for my color and I can't get over how she can look at my hair; that isn't easy or thin. Her consultations are unlike any other. She pays full attention and guides you with her experience. If I just want a root touch up, she's game, if I feel like showing a picture or nine from Pinterest of a new look, she takes all the time that's needed to explain how it can be done and what I can expect to see. While she colors my wicked mop of hair, we have fun conversations and she truly listens you. She remembers what I had going from my last visit to my next. She's an awesome colorist as well as an awesome person!!! I truly look forward to my appointments at Haus salon with Lauren. Not just for another great color, but her infectious one liners and smile.
