I read some great reviews about this place and had to request Abbey as my stylist! What's even better was the day before she added me on Instagram to see who I was and man she did her homework. Impressive!!! She saw I was a foodie and we had the best conversation. She listened really well to what I wanted which was some face framing kind of like long curtain bangs and wanted about an inch or two off since my ends were splitting. She also gave suggestions and gave my that "body ody ody" girl boss look. Did I mention she was funny? Lol At the end Abbey suggested some conditioner and shampoo I was looking for based on my hair and I'm grateful I had the opportunity to get my hair cut by her. Recommend? YES!! read more

I went to two different stylists. Based on reviews here and on Google, I opted not to go with the same stylist. Mistake? Maybe. But I'm also the type of person who is willing to try new people and hair grows out, like how bad could it get? First stylist was good. So, 3 stars there. I didn't love it at first but I knew I could live with the haircut. The growing out phases was wonderful so that was a late win. The first stylist, she asked for photos and went slowly. This most recent haircut and stylist? 1 star. Major remorse and frustration after getting home. Realization: the stylist really didn't understand how to work with thick, straight, coarse hair. She thinned out my hair too much with too many layers. This, after having the understanding that I wanted to keep long layers, a lob (cut to the collarbone), and something low maintenance. What I got was like a shag that had no shape. The back of my head? Good grief. The cut was like a mixed message; neither here nor there, no direction. Also, she cut my hair nearly the entire time wet and up in clips. I couldn't possibly tell what was really happening because I could never see the actual shape in progress. Miscommunication can be a thing, sure, but I felt like in the initial consultation, she understood what I was asking for. I ended up going to another salon entirely to fix my hair. I couldn't take a chance that going back anyone there would have been able to fix my hair. I've learned there is a huge difference with texturizing, layering and how that impacts removing 'weight'. If you come across any stylist with happy hands/fingers with thinning, razor scissors, beware. read more

I got my hair cut on Wednesday with Zoe after going 8 months without a trim. Since then I have received compliments and rave reviews from every single acquaintance I have seen. My haircut has become everyone's favorite topic. My before/after photo is rivaling other people's engagement announcements and baby photos in social media likes. Yes, the attention is exhausting, and no, I am not the one who deserves it - I just sat there, drank an IPA, gave vague requests, complained about the housing market and paid far, far less than her time and talents are are worth. As a person with super straight, fine (but a bunch of it) hair - my haircuts always end up looking like shorter or longer versions of the same thing. I have boring hair, ok. It doesn't really like being styled and I really like sleeping in. We decided on bangs, taking off some weight and length. I made a plea for a change, she happily served it right up. Zoe was communicative about her ideas before picking up her scissors and sought my input throughout our 2 hour session. She even trimmed my bangs shorter at the very end per my last minute request. Before styling it in a way I will never be able to/have the patience to replicate - she made sure that it looked great unstyled in its totally straight form because she knew that's how it was going to look once I decided to wash it and every day that followed. While they've done away with the boutiquier side of the salon, they now offer spa services in addition to their unequivocal hair styling. I go to Mahogany, and would never let another person touch my locks. I'm really not picky about my hair, and I kind of like a little mane-ly adventure, but, regardless of my style of the month, Mahogany has a keen ability to intuit what will look good on a person. She takes into account everything from your face shape + coloring to your general style; I'd even say that she tries to get a sense of who a person really IS, and give them a 'do that reflects their personality. Mahogany is seriously invaluable to me; so invaluable, actually, that she's traveling all the way to Jackson, WY, with me for my wedding! My fiance goes to Tenille, and he always looks dapper (but just rugged enough) when she's done with him. No matter what your style, your flare, your fancy, the stylists at Head to Toe will listen to you + actually hear what you're saying, make sure you look the way you want to (at least as far as your hair is concerned), and make you feel like you just spent the last hour or two in a coffee shop with your best friends (Spy House is next door, which makes this place even BETTER!). Apparently, there are NO recent reviews for this place on yelp. So imagine my surprise when I get here under a recommendation from a friend for Zoe only to discover, they don't have clothes for sale and they take credit cards. Thank goodness because I am not going to lie, I booked the appointment, came on here to read the reviews and thought, "seriously? Who the heck doesn't take credit cards these days unless you are a hole in the wall Asian place who doesn't speak English and your denial of credit cards just give you credence that you are a REAL ASIAN place". I digress. I came early because it is Uptown and honestly, I figured I would have an easier time building myself a dang parking ramp on the spot than I would finding parking on Nicollet. Lo and behold, there was one right in front of the salon. Score but now I am like an hour early for my appointment. No big deal. They have every magazine in the world. Comfy chairs. They took my coat and boil me some water for hot tea of which I got to pick my selection. Zoe was lovely. She explained to me everything in detail which I love because I find it necessary to know all the things. She is a perfectionist and reshaped my bob into something manageable and chic. I got a head massage when Zoe washed my hair which was spine tingly good! I couldn't be happier. I checked out with my credit card, whoop! And with my hair cut + hair oil + 20% tip, the totally came to about $50. Not shabby. One star taken off because there was a upsell on product but I totally get that they have to do that, I just hate it. Even as far as upsells go it wasn't bad. Zoe pointed out the product that was used. She walked me to the counter and let me make up my on mind on it by myself. There wasn't a "hand you the product and look at you expectantly while you frantically think up a way to turn them down nicely" and she seemed as uncomfortable about it as me. Or maybe I am just projecting. All in all, I am pleased and even though it is not the cheapest cut on the block, it is a salon. You are going to get what you pay for. Mahogany was my go-to rock star until she left, but I've started seeing Abby (Abi, Abbie, Aby - sorry!) and our first time was pretty sweet. She took her time and wanted to make sure she did everything right. Awww yeah. In all the times I've been there, I've never had a bad experience. It's obvious that the other people in there feel the same way, because they're people I see on a regular basis. Head to toe salon in Minneapolis has a forever client in me. I went into Monique after a botched at home bleach job. It was horrendous. 20 shades of messed up. Horrible. Did I mention It was bad? I went in not expecting anyone could fix what I had done. I was completely wrong. Not only did Monique get my hair one color, but a color I love with loads of dimension. I am very fussy about my hair, and vintage styling is my thing. She spent 5 hours fixing me. Monique fixed my botched Betty bangs to a beautiful T and gave me a perfect cut for my wet sets. What is even better is that all first time clients get 50% off services. I have never left a salon more happy in my life! The service was far beyond perfect, everyone was very friendly and full of great advice. Parking was easy too which isn't normally the case in this area and the online booking was simple. She gives me perfect hair every time in both cuts and color. She is very good at listening to my concerns, giving me exactly what I want and more, always going above and beyond. Even when I come in for complementary bang trims in between my cuts she demonstrates incredible care, detail, and time into making sure they are absolutely perfect. I had my hair cut for the first time here last night by Abby. I had a great first experience! I asked to keep the length but to change it up a bit, and that is exactly what she did. I got the best layers that I have ever had (since I generally have had negative experiences with layers in the past, I generally avoid them but these layers look fantastic). In our conversations, I mentioned to her that my fiance and I were going to have date night afterwards, so she went ahead and styled my hair with awesome soft, loose curls. Matt Nicholson is a genius with short hair for women! He always gives me a cut that's sassy, spunky, and feminine. The salon's atmosphere is awesome as well -- lots of beautiful clothes, really nice lighting, and small and cozy. They were able to get me in the same day, which Is hard to do unless you go to a place that's cheap, like Great Clips (NO THANKS) Tennille cut my hair, she gave me an amazing head massage while she washed my hair, she was very professional and listened to what I wanted and didn't cut It how she wanted It, she gave me a haircut exactly what I asked for, which never happens. My mom was in town and wanted to get her hair highlighted. I called a few places in the neighborhood (not being that familiar with any myself) and found Head to Toe. Told them what I was looking for and the woman was able to get my mom an appointment for the day she needed. She told me the cost of a foil "started at $45" and that there was a first time customers discount of half off. My mom has super thin hair that isn't very long, so I figured she'd be at the lower end. Boy, was I wrong. My mom got her hair foiled and also got a bit of a cut (really not that much, more of a trim) and her HALF OFF price was $70!!! Seriously? If the foils start at $45 and the cuts start at $41, those were some dang expensive services to end up at $140. Not only that, but apparently they don't accept credit cards either. Hello, this is Nicollet Ave, do you serious expect someone to carry $140 cash in that neighborhood? As I had obviously never been there before, the woman on the phone should have told me this upfront, especially since it isn't anywhere on their website! How rude. Mahogany has been cutting my hair for a few years now, She never lets me down. I even convinced my wife to start going to her, and she has said she has never received a better cut (she used to come home and fix the cut she just got, but no more!). I have multiple friends who also see Tennille, and have had my haircut by her when Mahogany was out birthing a child, and she also does a stand up job. Head to Toe salon is a wonderful, professional and creative environment to visit for all of your beauty needs. The first visit I made to Head to Toe Hair Salon was in May of 2013. My Mom was in Minnesota for her grandsons graduation party. We really wanted to go have our hair done in something special for the party. Of course I thought of Head to Toe Salon, as I know Abby. Easiest thing in the world is making your appointment directly from the salons website. I made two appointments for all over color and hair cuts. Easy! The next day into town to see my favorite hair stylist Abby. The time spent Abby, but the entire staff was so delightful. My Mother's and my color was gorgeous, the haircuts were the best we've ever had. The hairstylists working at Head to Toe are thoughtful, and so creative. Both my Mom and I highly recommend you to treat yourself to a really great experience and visit Head to Toe Hair Salon. One more side note before closing. I visited the Salon yeaterday, Friday January 17 2014. I was having a really crabby day. The minute my feet walked into the door, all my stress melted away. it was june 2009, the date my life changed. it was the 1st time margot laid hands on my hair, and from that day forth all hair days have been good days. (ok, that's a lie, but only because it grows and stuff). i've followed her from salon de peu, to the fox den, and now at head to toe, and i have to say i like her in this setting the best. the salon is chic, but not uptight. it's the kind of place where you can have a good convo with your hair-do'er but also the entire salon. the music is great, and the aesthetic is eye pleasing. you can tell all of the stylists are incredibly unique and talented, and also genuinely kind. none of that fakey-fake "nice" stylist crap in this joint. can i get a hallelujah?? *tamborine shake* every time i've been there i've seen nothing but beautiful hair walk out of the door. the only thing that's a little wonky is the street parking, but that's not the salon's fault. just take it in to consideration for your appt time. anyways, margot is an amazing stylist who really thinks outside of the box, but also takes your lifestyle in consideration. there have been times when i'm able to be totally cray with my hair, and she delivers. other times, i've had to reign it in, but she's still made me look and feel cool- that's talent. every cut, every color, and every eye brow wax (GO TO HER FOR THOSE IF YOU'RE PICKY LIKE ME) have been complimented dozens of times by strangers. i've also had several sets of synthetic dreadlocks installed by her over the years, and the blending is always impeccable. jeeze, can you tell we've had some hair adventures together?? for the quality of her work, she charges VERY fairly. if you're in a hair rut, check head to toe out, and if you see margot just know things will be different for you from that point on. you're welcome, don't say i've never given you nice things. read more

Horrible services. I bought a dress and needed to return it. Then they told me that they only gave out store credit. I tried to use that store credit for hair services. First the receptionist said yes. And then the owner said no. Apparently the staff is ill-informed and the owner refused to honor the information provided by her own staff. Horrible services!
