    Liver and onions
    Michael R.

Best Liver and onions anywhere in Michigan. That's the only thing we come here for about 2 times a year. The ambiance is way too modern after they remodel but it's nice. Service is always friendly and good. We have been going here for 30 plus years. Any place that has lasted this long must be good. Give it a try if you're in the area.

    House gratis breadsticks. Very tasty!

Good food at a fair price. For our first meal here we ended up getting the Margarita pizza and Greek salad with gratis house bread sticks. The Margarita pizza was well baked with the thin crust nicely browned all over. The tomato sauce, Mozzarella cheese and Basil toppings complemented each other very nicely and made for a vary flavorful pizza. The one small gripe I had is that the pizza could have used a bit more Basil as this is such a key ingredient for this style of pizza. Relative to the salad and bread sticks they were both quite good where a small salad was enough for me and wife to share. For drinks we ended up getting a Long Island ice tea and an Old Fashion with Woodford Reserve bourbon. The drinks were definately a tad on the stronger side, which I personally like, where the Old Fashion could have used just a tad bit more sweetness (syrup from cherry bottle always is good choice or simple syrup) to add a bit more balance to the drink. Having said that it was still a well made tasty drink. Relative to facility and staff, the restaurant has a large footprint with plenty of seating and a casual dining environment. The staff and in particular our waitress, was super friendly and very attentive to our needs where she personally added a lot to our dining experience. Definitely appears to be a strength of the business. Overall I was quite pleased with our first experience here where if you are looking for a good pizza that is a large step up from the many chain restaurants in the area than this is a place you should check out.

The food is consistently good and tonight was no different. From the fall off the bone ribs to the spicy chicken sandwich, or even the cauliflower steak (a great vegetarian option), everything was delicious.

Despite how noisy the restaurant can be (high ceilings with hard surfaces) it doesn't take away from the family-friendly atmosphere. This isn't a quiet, romantic place to eat...definitely need to speak up to be heard but that's okay. The food here is excellent. We started with drinks and an appetizer and ordered mains each. They serve a ton of food so consider sharing a dish or prepare to take some leftovers with you. Our server (Monika) was on top of everything. We waited 40 minutes to be seated but she got our order in quickly and we hardly waited any time to eat. She's a star! I had a Pink Mule - New Amsterdam Pink Whitney vodka, Select Aperitivo, Fresh Stawberries, Lime juice and Ginger beer. You can taste a hint of the strawberries under the ginger beer - very refreshing! We shared the Panko Encrusted Feta, which has a honey drizzle that really adds to the flavors of the panko and feta. I love this appetizer! I had the Chicken Spanokopita (chicken breast stuffed with spinach and feta on top of rice pilaf with green beans. This is a gluten free option and it is excellent. It came with a nearly full size Caesar Salad too! I highly recommend this chicken dish! The entire meal came with a basket of their breadsticks and they are well known for these. We took half of everything home so we'll have dinner tomorrow covered now. If you are in the area or would like to make a special trip, it's with it!

    Breadsticks! Worth the drive!

Previous to last night I would have said everyone should go to Highland House, but having went last night and not having drinkable water was awful. The server rudely told us he gets comments every night and didn't offer any explanation except "it's well water and I drink it." The water smelled like sulfur so badly I couldn't keep it at the table let alone have it near my nose to drink. I asked about it as we left and the hostess said she brings her own water from home and that they have a Britta in the back for water for servers. I can't conceive a restaurant not having drinkable water. The friends we were with said it likely indicates a problem with their well. The hostess also indicated to me it is getting worse. This needs to be fixed.

Breadsticks, side salad & peach hard cider

I'm not from Michigan, but locals said Highland house was the place to go. They were right. The restaurant was rebuilt within the last 5 years. It's open & airy. Large & comfortable. The breadsticks. EVERYONE said they were the best. They are very good, and a basket comes with your meal (or you can buy a basket for $7). The side salads. Huge! A side salad could easily serve 2 or 3. The entries. I had the chicken spanakopita- so delicious. My husband had the filet. Very good too, however he ordered it well done & should have opted for medium-well. The beers. Lots of choices of local/midwestern ones on tap. I had a Michigan peach cider that was delicious. The service. Wonderful.

Food is good. Staff are nice. The bar seating gets busy and it takes awhile for them to ask for your food order. Best breadsticks ever!

The accompanying fries were equally tasty and very well made with a very nice crunchy texture. At $10 for a1/2 lb burger and fries, especially ones made this well, This is a great deal by any standard! I also got two cocktails, an old-fashioned and a margarita. The old-fashioned was just OK in my opinion and needed a tad more sweetness based on how I like my drink. The margarita on the other hand was very good with the base being Hornito's Blanco. Nice! Price was quite fair at $10 a cocktail, but not as great of a deal as the hamburger and fries were. Relative to the business itself and the staff, the business is a no-frills blue-collar type bar/restaurant where it would appear to have a loyal clientle. It appears to be a mix between an Irish bar and a sports bar as there are a lot of TVs scattered about to watch the big game. Staff was quite friendly where the waitresses knew a lot of the customers by name. Again very nice! If you are looking for a good burger bar with inexpensive prices, then look no further than this joint. This may have been my first trip here, but it definitely will not be my last!

I'd rather eat this type of food in house vs carry out since it doesn't keep well until I get home (things tend to get soggy). There doesn't seem to be anything "special" about this chicken. It's the way they serve it that sets them apart-- piled on top of things, or things piled on top of the chicken. Sandwiches, fries, tacos, bowls, salads, mac & cheese... you name it, they'll put their chicken on it! Once they introduced pulled pork, Taco Tuesday specials, and unique takes on salads, the menu opened up for me! (Not everyone loves fried chicken, so they cater to us all!) I haven't tried as many items as my husband, but I do love their salads, waffle fries, and sides. He devours anything and everything they offer, especially the tacos, sandwiches, and mashed potatoes. ND's staff is extremely friendly, always accommodating, and they keep the restaurant clean and sanitary. Our orders are consistently made fast and fresh, which is why we keep coming back! Never any issues getting carryout here... There was only one time when we got home and they forgot the ranch dressing we asked for. (Only disappointed because it's SO GOOD!!) We can't wait to see what they come up with next, and will continue to pop in for carryout from time to time! (I'm hoping they introduce flatbreads soon!!!)
