It's been a long while since I have been back to this restaurant where many years ago I used to be a regular. On this most recent visit, I ended up getting a Gyro sandwich with a side of fries and overall was fairly pleased with the meal. The Gyro was a good sandwich, but definitely falls a tad short of some of the restaurants in the area who specialize in Greek food an offer a more flavorful and better seasoned sandwich. Having said that. this was still a fairly good Gyro well that was well-made and tasty. The accompany fries were very good with a nice crunchy texture and very flavorful. Definitely the star of my meal. The restaurant continues to be well maintained with a bright clean interior and a very casual comfortable vibe overall. Staff was super friendly with great follow up and continues to be a strength of this business from my perspective. The Village Grill is pricey, but not overwhelmingly expensive. It's tastefully carved into this Commerce Twp. strip mall with D. Classy nails, Water to go shoppe and others. If you factor into the cost the fantastic service, the great food and the cozy ambiance, it really appears quite reasonable. The ladies are very personable and there's a decent selection for all three meals. The Julienne salad I had was fairly big - half went home. Detroiters get ready...they offer the pink Greek dressing (a homemade beet dressing). It's a relatively short drive for us (until we go on the road again next month) and we find ourselves making other stops in this mall, making it extremely convenient for us. 01/26 read more

After visiting this location at least 10-15 times in the past two years, this most likely would've been a positive review at some point, but after today I would've come back here and edited this anyway with the bad experience I had today in particular. The short: Not coming back here for a while after clearly experiencing poorly trained staff today in particular at this restaurant, and a lack of food quality atypical to what I'm used to in the past coming here many, many times. The long: From beginning to end our particular waitress was very inattentive and blatantly lied to me about the quality of the meal I ordered. Did not come by the table once to refill water or coffee, refilled my coffee once only because I asked her to. When she served the plates, she didn't ask if anything else was needed and in particular I wanted Frank's Red Hot, again I had to wait about five minutes for here to show up somewhere in the restaurant again to call her over and ask her for it. I ordered the Belly Buster meal, when it arrived at the table I immediately pointed out the thinly sliced slabs that were presented on my plate as "hash browns" and she immediately and blatantly lied to me "oh this is how we serve the hash browns here for about a year now or more, other places do it the typical way." This is a blatant lie, this is not the first time I order this plate here and it's the first time it arrived like this and on top of that I'm lied to about it. Because our waitress was hardly ever visible, I noticed all the waitresses in particular today were all hiding out back by the coffee station where there is a glass window in one part, I could see all of them gathered up there multiple times during my visit meanwhile I look around the restaurant to notice multiple tables waiting on their food, refills, or to place an order. A severe lack of training of staff was evident today in particular, it really showed. I left a 10% tip out of pity, but with this experience just a constant beginning to end disappointment, I'm not coming back here anytime soon. It's a shame when a restaurant loses consistency, but that's one of the most important things to keep tight and in order, because a bad experience beginning to end like these sure ruins it quickly. read more

I had the Florentine omelet, my friend had a breakfast sandwich wrap (flour tortilla). The omelet was good, and the burrito wrap was also good, although lacking on the cheese in our opinions. I ordered the hashbrowns crispy and they did not come crispy. Our server was nice, and we were frequently offered top-offs on our coffees. Clean bathrooms, clean new-looking interior. My sister had an appointment at Huron Valley/Sinai, and we were both hungry afterwards, so I looked for a restaurant nearby. Village Grill was 5 minutes away, so we went there. I ordered the fish and mac & cheese special. It came with soup or salad, 2 large pieces of fish, and a large portion of mac & cheese. I really liked the salad. It came in a cute little bowl, and everything was chopped and arranged neatly. The fish was perectly fried and not too greasy, and the mac and cheese was good as well. I took half of everything home. My sister had the Michigan salad wrap sandwich. That also looked really good -- turkey, lettuce, strawberries & I don't know what else inside a wrap. Nice place, local hangout, many Italian and Greek dishes, we found a lot to choose from. We got there early- before 5pm and there was a line after about 45 minutes. I was surprised by the large number of booths available , and the fastest moving servers that I've seen in awhile! They got our food to us quickly and checked in several times. A good selection of sides so we got to customize our meals: fries, salads, chili. My husband had a mountain of Lasagna and I had Chicken Alfredo; both were good- he ate the whole thing! The clean plate club! Good choice for groups too, seemed like most everyone had been there often. The carrot cake was listed as a favorite... we didn't have room... but it sounds good! read more

The first time I am disappointed. I upgraded and paid an additional 4.19 for a upgrade to a mini greek salad. It was not even a full mini size. It was definitely lacking. Do not upgrade and pay additional. Stick with the side salad it comes with. Waste of $$$$$ read more

Service was atrocious. I saw that our food was out from the kitchen for at 15 minutes before the server picked it up! I watched as she took dirty dishes from other tables back, drinks to other tables and other things! As far as the food, my wife and I both ordered sandwiches, she selected the Turkey Reuben and I opted for the Club Sandwich (electing to pay a $1 up charge for both ham and turkey, what a mistake)! When both sandwiches arrived, they weren't thinly sliced turkey or ham big thick slabs of turkey and ham, not what you normally expect for either sandwich! I took both meats off my sandwich and found the SLABS of ham filled with fat and grizzle! I'm so glad that I didn't try and take a bite! Even though we were all famished, my wife ate only half of her sandwich and remarked that even the ramekin of what we were certain was Kraft 1,000 Island dressing could moisten the dryness of the turkey! My "housemade" chips were so dark that I couldn't eat them and the sausage links that my 7 year old daughter ordered were black! We came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was chaotic and disorganized from the start. It was unclear who you check in with, no signs or visible hostess. When she finally arrived she took our info. We had a 15 min wait, no biggie. Once seated we waited another 15 mins for our server to come over. We ordered our food and that came out in a decent amount of time. That was the last we ever saw our server. She never once checked on us. I had to ask a different server for ketchup. After waiting a good 20 mins after finishing our meals for the bill, again a different server gave it to us. Good thing I had cash or I imagine we would have waited forever for a credit card to be run. Food wise, the food was fine. Standard breakfast options. My omelet was a bit burnt around the edges but edible. Husbands sausage and biscuits was good. We sat at this restaurant for almost 2 hours, the apps were okay the potions are small but the real problem was with our food. My husband ordered a mushroom Swiss burger (that was $10) no sides are included, no fries or anything. He said the meat tasted weird and the cheese was off the only good part was the mushrooms. I ordered a farmers omelet, my food CAME OUT COLD! And my hash browns tasted like they were from another order. I told the lady that my food was cold and she had the audacity to PUT MY FOOD IN THE MICROWAVE!!! We like Village Grill and eat there at least once a month. Today I had an unpleasant surprise. We asked for extra onions on the side salad and when the bill came there was a $0.90 extra charge. It was not on the menu and our usually exceptional waitress didn't mention the extra charge when we ordered. When we asked, she said so many people were asking for the extra onions they started charging. But apparently in secret. The point here is not the charge but the fact we didn't get a chance to evaluate if we still wanted the extra onions in light of the extra charge (no we wouldn't have). read more

Needed to get some food as I hadn't eaten all day & had to find a place where I could park my motor coach (mc). Saw this small diner in a strip mall & was able to maneuver my unit far enough away from the mail entrance & not causing parking problems for other drivers. Upon entering, I was greeted by friendly staff & was seated by a window booth. Great as I always want to make sure my mc was safe. My waitress was Heather & she answered my questions about different menu items honestly. I decided on a bowl of clam chowder to start and it was the BEST I've ever had. Thick, hot & filled with clams & large chunks of potato. As it was Friday & I love cod, chose the cod w/mac & cheese. When the entree came, there were 3 good sized pcs of cod & a heap of mac & cheese. Yup it definitely WAS cod & the mac & cheese was rich & creamy but could have used more cheddar cheese. Never was I rushed & Heather made sure my coffee cup was always filled. Yes, I will be going back as their menu is extensive for a small, local eatery & I always try to spend my $$ on the mom & pop places. Ordered carry out today. A turkey dinner,slim Jim and a cheeseburger with fries. My son ran in to grab it. They have a table by the door for all the carry out orders. Ours wasn't ready yet, but they brought out an order with the same first name as mine. You'd think someone would know if there's more than 1order with same name. Or at least check to make sure the food was the right stuff. Any way it turns out they gave us the wrong food. But my son wasn't untying the bag to check it. There was the correct number of containers. Drive all the way to the far side of Milford before we found out it was wrong. So go back to Commerce to get correct food. I tell the man they gave my son the wrong order. And he replied,that my son took the wrong one. Drive all the way back to Milford, by this time our door is only like warm. French fries are soggy. And the burger that was ordered medium well,was more like medium rare. Both my son's have told me that they have both had orders messed up before too. Awful service, awful food, awful experience, I brought my family here full of 7 people, when we arrived they said they weren't sure were to seat us, so we asked I they could push tables together and they go "I guess so". We were the only ones in the restraints t the time besides one other customer, we ordered our food, and were waiting, a couple and their 2 children walk in the door after we have ordered and end up receiving their food before us. We asked for a manager or supervisor and they described that they do not have one for the day. When we got the 2 food the plates were very hot (only 4 of us 7 got dishes to eat) and the other things ordered were apple pie ale mode and rice pudding. This took 1 hour and 35 minutes to have made. I get the crispy chicken finger pita from here as take out when working on this side of town. Never dined in so can't speak to the service, but the food has always been great. The chicken pita comes with bacon, and the buttermilk range is great. Great fires as well. The grilled chicken greek salad with creamy greek dressing is a delicious and healthier option. 3rd strike... Strike 1 - My wife had a bug in her salad. They took her salad off the bill but it seemed like an inconvenience. Strike 2 - my wife's lasagna was served with a piece of plastic in it. The manager told us it's what they use to write the freshness date in it. So he brought it back to the kitchen. The waitress brought it back out STILL with the plastic. We called her over and she said, I thought you wanted more sauce on it. What?!? Strike 3 - I wasn't feeling well. We called around for the soups of the day and theirs sounded good. We went there, ordered drinks and soup. After 10 minutes, came back and told us they're out of soup. So we left but not before being charged $7.50 for 2 ice teas and a coke. The food is decent (when you're not eating bugs and plastic), service is pleasant but the management customer service is horrendous. We will not be back. read more
