Rumbles showing off those baby blues!

High Country Humane is housed in what was formally the Second Chance Center for Animals. On October 20 we adopted our newest addition from here, a male cat named Rumbles. He is just a perfect fit for our family, loves his new home and is great with our other cat and two dogs. The adoption fee was $100 which is very reasonable. He had one more booster shot due, which went easy peasy when we brought him back in. We were also provided a free veterinary wellness check by several vets in town and ours was on the list! He received a complimentary collar and they had coupons available for free cat food. His collar had broken, but I stopped in today and they gave me a new one. When we brought him into our vet for his free wellness check, she confirmed that he was a healthy boy! She agreed with me that he's handsome too! Everything in the facility is very clean and I love the hygiene regimen that they make potential pet parents go through using hand sanitizer prior to touching another cat. They have unique programs like the Working Cats Program, which gives cats who have no chance of being adopted into a typical home, a secure life by being adopted for hunting rodents in barns, businesses, etc. The Pet Food Pantry program provides free food to dogs and cats in low-income families so they can keep their beloved pets. We are very happy with our new addition and if you are looking for an additional family member, I highly recommend that you check out High Country Humane!

They always take amazing care of our cats, and the staff are so friendly. We got our orange one there and can't believe we ever lived without him

Jax! Previously named Mango at High Country Humane!

I adopted for the first time at High Country Humane a few weeks ago and got my cat Jax (previously named Mango, I just decided to rename him)! You can tell that they really care about their animals there and all of the cats and dogs seemed to be taken care of properly which makes me so happy! I know that some pet shelters are horrible, so it's good to see that the people at High Country Humane care for these animals until their find their forever homes! Just the other day I went to Coconino Humane with my roommate because she was adopting a cat also and the animals were taken care of so poorly there and the workers were noticeably abusive towards the dogs. The workers, in front of my roommate and I, openly talked about not giving the cats their medications. It was absolutely heartbreaking and I wish I could do something about it, but it's good to see that there are other good shelters like High County Humane. Highly recommend High Country Humane!!

I got my pup from here about two weeks ago. The adoption process was very smooth and the staff is so caring and sweet!! They truly love these pups and do their best to get them amazing homes. An absolutely amazing place to adopt from. Very reasonable adoption fees, she was spayed, and had all of her shots but one. I went in the next weekend and they gave the last shot to her for $15 at their low cost vaccine event. I also stopped by their garage sale and got some great prices on items for my pup. I'm grateful for them helping me find my best friend!

*Please excuse this photo as it shows how bad her symptoms got the day she was taken to the vet* Hi, This is my cat Genie! Genie was adopted at the end of May from High Country Humane in Flagstaff, AZ shelter at the age 1. Where do I begin? The staff was very nice when I first went into the building to look for and adopt my new kitty. That Is what gives them the 1 star I am required to give. When adopted, the shelter told us nothing about our cat besides that she had "episodes" and that she had low liver levels. Unfortunately, this was only told to us after we had paid for her and had given them the cage to scoop her up into. When they went to get her they said she was having one of these episodes where she drooled excessively and her eyes rolled to the back of her head all while being unresponsive. They also explained that she drooled but mainly when she was a happy, purring cat so it was of no concern for the future. They asked if we wanted to wait a day to think about her as she was having a freak out but because I had already paid for the cat and done the paperwork I saw no point in waiting. Everyone was so weirdly excited that we had adopted her but we didn't know why. Fast forward a month later and my cat has had a lot of health issues. After taking her to the vet we discovered she had liver shunts and was born with them. Liver shunts cause cat seizures (her "episodes" they couldn't explain) and explain her low liver levels as her liver is deteriorating. I went back into the shelter as I needed her medical paperwork reprinted and explained what had happened and how I was upset. I didn't ask for medical help or any money as it was already paid for. Once I started to explain how they sold me a cat with at now needs medication daily for the rest of her life (please note she is only 1 year old) or an expensive surgery to be done, they lied to my face over and over saying these episodes were not seizures or how they have no way to properly test their cats for real medical concerns. How can you be an adoption agency yet can't look into a pets medical issues? The lady was so flustered she walked away from us mid conversation and went into the dog hallway. I love my cat and will do anything for her but it's poor on this company to dump animals onto people without fully diagnosing them or disclosing what is really happening. They emailed me the paperwork I had signed saying that they are not reliable for animals once you initial and leave the shelter which is BS. And if the vet truly doesn't know what's going on with animals then she should have her medical license stripped. Although my cat is ok now and has medication, I do have a $1,000 vet bill to pay and another $3,000 to pay when I can get her the surgery she needs. I hope that this doesn't happen all the time to others but maybe my situation can shed light on new pet owners looking to purchase an animal from here. They also deleted my original google review within hours, yikes! Looks like they almost have something to hide.

You can write as much as you want, but I stand by what I said. Your people were extremely rude and yes, they did give Bella to a friend. You are not being truthful with what we went through, but it's over and done with. I still suggest that people be highly cautious when dealing with your organization. I would never suggest using your services.

After receiving my application they sent me a two sentence email to set up a 'home visit' for two weeks later! If I had a dog that needed a home I wouldn't make her or the people wait that long! So we waited the two weeks and were very excited. During the wait we received zero follow up nor did they provide anymore information about the process or the dog. The day finally came and we waited all day (3pm appointment) and I even took off work but, these people NEVER showed up and NEVER called as well as my email asking for an explanation went unanswered! The appointment was a day and time of their choice and they do not show up?! We waited all that time and my disabled father was crushed! For a nonprofit relying on the goodwill of the public for financial support and adoptions this has to be the dumbest and most unprofessional way to go about business. Do not waste your time or money with these rude and inconsiderate people. Go to the city shelter to adopt pet truly in need.

Unfortunately, I have stopped doing this following my recent visit to the shelter. My 15-yr old Australian Cattle Dog mix had recently passed away and I was interested in adopting another adult dog. I was told that I had to be interviewed by their "dog adoption specialist" before being allowed to meet this dog. This was the most condescending and humiliating interview I could have imagined. After just 10 minutes of the interview, I walked out without meeting any of the available dogs. I then visited the Verde Valley Humane Society - totally the opposite experience. I was greeted by a very pleasant and helpful man that took his time to introduce me to a few of the dogs that were available. Everyone working there were friendly and helpful. This experience was absolutely night and day from the experience I had just had at the Sedona Humane Society. It is understandable why so many of the dogs at Sedona Humane have been there for so long without being adopted.

Miss Kitty's Cat House is about accepting and then rehoming cats and finding them the best home possible...not in pleasing "customers." Their volunteers are very nice, but will not rehome one of their fosters without first insuring that they meet Miss Kitty's criteria for a good home for their cats. Yesterday, we took them a little cat that had been dumped in our neighborhood. We could not keep her ourselves because we have a very sickly easily frightened elder cat of our own. We live an hour away from Miss Kitty's. Barb at Miss Kitty's was very helpful and explained the criteria we had to meet to have little Sweetie accepted and directed us to a vet that would do her qualifying exam on a walk-in basis. (Every other vet was booked a week or more out). So we made the trip, got her accepted, and were blown away by their facility. Cats appeared relaxed and were lounging and roaming uncaged in a super clean rescue house. So while it broke my heart to give the little girl up, I am greatly relieved to have found Miss Kitty's. We know that Miss Kitty's will carefully vet any prospective new parents for her and that she will be well cared for while waiting for her forever home. We are David and Glenda Freeman.
