I had the time of my life celebrating my birthday here. Everyone was so kind and friendly. I chose the Hideko Retreat service and I recommend it to anyone that wants to treat themselves. The staff was aware that I was celebrating my birthday, so they brought in a cake slice during my bath time. It was very sweet of them! My favorite part of the Hideko Retreat service was the body scrub. My skin felt smooth for the entire day. I also enjoyed the foot massage at the beginning of the service. A little oasis with an authentic Japanese cultural feel, tucked away on one of the busiest streets in LA. Every moment spent there was a true delight. I've been going through a hectic and difficult time working on my doctoral dissertation, and after my visit I could barely keep my eyes open--the Caviar facial and massage were so relaxing that I spent the next 24 hours finally able to rest, nap, and sleep. Amazing experience! Booked with Momo a couple weeks in advance for this past Sunday for a romantic couple treatment (2 hours $450). My boyfriend and I never gotten a massage before and were excited to experience it together. Parking was easy and checking in was quick. Once you're brought into your room, you're told to change into a robe and disposable underwear and then the massage and scrub began. You get 40 minutes of private time to freshen up in the shower, bathe, and eat/drink refreshments. Overall, super worth. We both chose regular pressure and the massage did wonders. My work offers a wellness stipend and I was really interested in using it to get a massage since I never had one before. I asked for any West LA recommendations and several folks suggested Hideko! I was able to make a Sunday afternoon appointment a week or two in advance for the Hideko Express (60 minutes). Upon arrival, the staff were very polite and friendly - I was given a chart to draw the areas of my body I felt comfortable being touched/target areas. It truly feels like you're being transported into a Japanese spa and the building is stunning! I was given clear instructions prior to my appointment and a fresh, packaged robe to change into. I mostly wanted my back and arms targeted and 60 minutes was the perfect time to work out knots in those! I didn't get a chance to grab my massage therapist's name - but they were amazing and were very patient with me (especially as it was my first time getting a massage and I was unsure of what to do). for the $$$ price point, I was expecting to come out feeling rejuvenated but instead came out with more back pain. my boyfriend gifted me the romantic couple package for $500, and we came here because I've been experiencing a lot of back pain from my job. the massage itself felt so painful. I felt like I was in scorching pain majority of my massage from the massause being too rough. being that i am 5'1", i was not expecting my masseuse who appeared to be 5'4" to walk all over my body, but they did- and without warning, I was suffocated to the point I raised my head to catch some air. I normally don't write review but i have to for this, i am in terrible pain. My boyfriend and I went for a couples massage and it was the second worst massage of my life. It was sooo painful, they were hitting all the wrong spots. She just dug her elbows into me with no technique or ease. It was literally tortuous. I was counting down for the end of my massage. Normally during a massage I'm soothed and almost fall asleep from how relaxing the feeling is. This was the complete opposite, she just kept digging and digging very hard over in the same spot. I was wide awake the whole time and flinched multiple times from the pain. This whole week i have been incredibly sore and in pain from this massage. I have to ice myself from the pain the masseuse inflicted. Not sure if they are hiring anyone to massage their customers but this was not a well trained masseuse at all. My boyfriend who normally likes a deep tissue massage even thought it was incredibly painful. Very disappointed to pay almost $500 for a painful and unbearable 70 minute massage. read more

Really had high hopes for hideko but I don't think it was worth the money unfortunately. I honestly booked my husband and I massages here because our beloved tomoko spa was fully booked, and major regrets we didn't just wait for their next availability or go elsewhere. Booking was super easy and pleasant by calling, they were able to get us in with pretty short notice. The front desk ladies are super cute and sweet. The interior is nice, although the front area is kind of small. The rooms were pretty nice too but was surprised that the covering on the massage table was so thin. Like no heated mat, no cloth sheet (I believe) covering the table. My husband and I had staggered massages (no childcare!) and we unfortunately ended up getting the same person. You are instructed to leave the robe they provide (it is cute) on, and then the therapist massages initially over the robe and then asks you to take it off for the oil massage part. This process did not feel seamless- just being able to be under sheets or even a towel like every other spa would've been smoother. Our therapist was decently nice and I don't know if all the other masseuses would be similar but- technique wise- it was basically a Thai massage. Almost zero fingers or hands, all elbow and some forearms, like super long elbow holds basically with some stretching at the end. The few times she used her hands or fingers she basically let up on the pressure almost 100%. Like, the elbow pressure "massage" part I would rank the pressure between like a 7-9/10 and hands and finger pressure probably a 1-2/10? So don't expect any kind of a relaxing Swedish/deep tissue type of massage. To my therapists credit though, after my husband warned me in case I ended up getting her lol, I asked her 3-4x to focus on my shoulders which she did, especially at the end when she sat me up. She went to town on my shoulders again with her elbows, which I guess gets the job done of getting my knots from holding my almost 20 lb baby all day loosened up. But again not super enjoyable or finessed imo Once the massage was over, I was given a cup of tea and a ferrer rocher chocolate. The tea was neither hot nor cold which was baffling to me- either serve warm tea or iced tea? And for the price point, to be given cheapo chocolate I mean.. So overall, I think there's such a huge discrepancy between the price/ expectations set by the sleek interior and tomoko esque design and the actual service. Perhaps this was just our experience. We're all for shelling it out for a lux massage spa but this just wasn't it. read more

My bf and I had high hopes for the massage and experience here but sadly we are disappointed.. The foot "massage" in the beginning is more of a foot soak & wash. Following that was the massage portion which is extremely lacking considering the price. The masseuse did not make enough effort to massage me properly with any technique or other means. For example, another masseuse once told me that a masseuse will try to use their feet to step on you and use their knees when "massaging" you to conserve her energy. That is what happened during my massage; I had to mention that I would not like to be stepped on during the massage nor have too much knees/legwork, I would like hands and forearm to massage instead. Frankly, there was nothing special or great about my massage, in fact it was mediocre at best. After the massage we had only 10 minutes to shower as a couple and heard a knock on the door to come out promptly. The shower was meh since we had to rush and the temperature dial is extremely sensitive; each little turn on the knob made the water too hot or too cold. At the end, they serve you tea and a cake slice which is nice. I felt quite pressured and awkward being watched while calculating the tips, (left 15% which was generous for the massage we received). Overall, our opinion is that for the price, we expected the massage to stand out, but we will not be back or recommend it. Maybe others had a better experience than ours read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a couples massage on a whim, and took the last spot for the day at Hideko. We were greeted by the sweetest staff, and brought into a private room. We started with foot therapy which was such a nice way to start the massage! Now listen- this is not for the weak. These girls dug into our souls and we left like we had just been put through a taffy pull. Every single knot in our whole bodies were found and worked on until they were completely gone. We were shocked at how intense the massages were. They did full on chiropractic work on us, and it was AWESOME. If you aren't a fan of this type of massage, they were very happy to accommodate a soothing, relaxing technique on areas that we requested. Can't wait to return. read more

Wow! What a clean and professional place. I treated myself here for my birthday. I just did the 60 min massage, no add ons. I arrived and tried to park in the front but the meter was not working, so they let me park in the back where employees normally park. Every single staff was so sweet, accommodating and professional. They take many steps to ensure sanitation and cleanliness as well. Now the massage! I chose normal, but even that was a little intense for me so I had to ask the masseuse to go a little lighter, this massage was a combination of Thai, reflexology and Swedish. At one point she was using her knees on my back and thighs, and then she was bending my knees back... it was a whole experience! Let me just say this masseuse worked so hard that it makes it worth the price! I discovered knots in my shoulder I didn't even know existed! You can tell she was highly experienced knew what she was doing. I came out literally a different person. The first day- my face was swollen from the massage- she didn't do anything to my face. But I think all the toxins that were released showed in my face... the next day the puffiness went down, and I had 3 different people ask me what I did! Someone asked if I lost weight, another person asked if I got a tan, nope! Just got a really good massage! Highly recommend! And the massage ended with a surprise cheesecake and tea for my bday! Hideko is my usual go to place, but I recently got a very poor massage that has left me in severe pain. I'm bruised up from the therapists nails on my shoulder. My shoulders and upper body aches really badly. I've been uncomfortable for 4 days and it's still going. I asked for a regular pressure massage but instead got a crazy deep massage with a lot of elbow work done and minimal technique. After this experience I don't think I'll be coming back, I have never been this sore going to any massage in my life, definitely the opposite of relaxation! read more

There was little to no pressure applied by the masseuse. I told the masseuse I had tightness in my shoulder and she never worked any of the knots out. I didn't come to be lightly pet- I came for a massage. For $350- not worth it. Cons: The robes they give you are thread bare thin and cheap. My friend went here and said the hostess offered to take their picture. I never got that. While the service here is nice, I don't think it was anything exceptional as mentioned in the other reviews. Pros: The place is neat/clean. If it's your birthday, they give you cake and tea. Hideko got such great reviews but my experience here was pretty unmemorable. read more

You would never know what you are about to encounter standing outside on a busy block of Wilshire. The interior is impeccable in every way... aesthetically beautiful, peaceful, extremely clean. Upon entering you are greeted by a woman who checks you in and has you sign some forms, including one specifying that all the therapists have been fully vaccinated. You are then led into one of the beautiful rooms that have a massage bed, private shower and Japanese soaking tub. My masseuse was proactively attentive to my desired level of firmness, room temperature, etc. The massage itself was about an 8.5 out of 10. Afterward you are given tea and a Japanese cookie. There are several other services offered, and never time I'll try the salt scrub. I really love this place both because of the great massage AND the wonderful atmosphere and people. My fiancée brought me to Hideko Spa to for my first Japanese couples massage for my birthday last week. This was an incredible experience and one that I would highly recommend. We were greeted at the door by our very friendly hostess, and were first seated in the lobby where we filled out forms to personalize our massage experience (areas of emphasis). Since the hostess was aware it was my birthday, she played some fun birthday songs as we prepared, which was a nice touch. She also made us feel very welcome and relaxed as she explained the whole process for us. The entire spa experience was very relaxing. The staff makes sure you don't feel rushed at all, and does a thorough job with the massage and foot treatment. The low lighting and gentle music makes for a very refreshing and relaxing ambiance as well. And of course the massage was lengthy and felt great as well. Most importantly, though, the entire place is super clean, which was something I really appreciated. I didn't feel worried at all about the space we were in because of the degree of cleanliness of everything, including the shower, the robes, etc. A final added touch was that because it was my birthday, the spa also gave us some Japanese cheesecake and tea to finish off the day. The cheesecake was delicious, as was the tea. This was a nice way to end off the massage experience after washing up. I came out of Hideko Spa feeling very refreshed and pleased. We celebrated our anniversary today by getting the Romantic Couples (120 minutes) package. Our experience was over the top amazing! The service is esquisite from the time I called to book our appointment, received detailed instructions (with photos) where to park, until we arrived there - someone welcomed us while we were still in the parking lot, guided us through the process until the end. The place is VERY clean! They have an entire body sanitizing station. Vaccination records were verified and they gave you a choice of your desired body scrub scent (we chose our favorite, rose) They took us in a private suite, provided us with robe and disposable underwear. We received a relaxing massage followed by a body scrub. (Facial and foot scrubsnare add-ons.) Then they gave us a bit of private time (45 mins) for bathing/shower and to indulge the complimentary cake and hot tea! What a wonderful way to celebrate our special day! If I could give this hidden gem more than 5 stars, I would. First off, this is probably the cleanest place I've ever seen. When you walk in you get a little sanitizer "shower". While in the waiting section they give you a form to fill out and allow you to tell them how you like your massage and what areas of the body to focus on or avoid! We had Alice and Saran, they were so sweet and professional and gave us 2 of the greatest and most relaxing massages we've ever had. The little suites are so clean and cozy! My husband and I did the romantic couples massage for his birthday, which included a 50 minute massage, 30 min body scrub, and a total of 40 minutes to shower off the scrub, relax in the hot bath and have tea and a delicious slice of cheesecake with a candle for his birthday! SO THOUGHTFUL!!! They gave us robes and disposable underwear to use. The room had all the necessities for us to use after the shower (towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shower cap, hair ties, q-tips, lotions, etc) We felt so relaxed. Momo was an absolute sweetheart. So generous, enthusiastic, and caring. She gave us a little gift as we left the spa. Doesn't get any more thoughtful than Momo. They texted me and reached out to me first so booking an appointment was very quick and easy! I also decided to upgrade it for the couples massage and I am so glad I did. It was such a memorable experience for the both of us. We arrived for our 4pm appointment on a Saturday and were immediately greeted. The lady (owner?) was so friendly and explained the whole process, options/add-on's. She even offered to take pictures of us, which was very nice of her!! Once you're done choosing and fill in a quick sheet (areas to focus on, etc), they take you to your massage room and give you yukata gowns to change into. This totally reminded me of my onsen experiences in Japan. Overall, the spa is really clean and it's a well-managed place. You can tell they try very hard to keep their customers satisfied and happy. This review is long overdue! I came here back in November 2020. They just opened up again after CA allowed some businesses to open at limited capacity. They only were open for reservations and online it said that I could text to make a reservation. I got a message back from the very sweet Momo! Momo went above and beyond to make sure our time at the spa was perfect. I mentioned that it was my birthday and she wanted to get me a cake. The spa was not hard to find. Parking is kind of iffy because they only have street parking. However when I got there Momo insisted that I should park in their back parking lot so that my car would be safe. She went over all of their Covid restrictions and extra safety precautions for us and the staff. Which we both appreciated. We signed a few papers and she even took some pictures for us. The whole building was very quiet and the atmosphere was relaxing. You couldn't even tell if there were any other people in the building because of how quiet it was. I think they plan the reservations so that there are only one party at a time in the lobby area. Our two massage therapists were ladies. They were very polite and professional. They made sure we were both comfortable with the treatments. They made sure to stay as quiet as possible so that they would not disturb us and any other guests. After our treatment was done Momo came back with my surprise cake and some tea afterwards. She gave us more than enough time to clean off and enjoy our snacks. Overall we enjoyed our time!
