Ice cream was pretty good. We ordered huckleberry since we don't see that very often and it was a nice sweetness with really chunks of berry. Also tasted the juneberry which was ok. Overall, solid ice cream for when you're craving something sweet!

Our sides were amazing too, crunchy chips and hot and fresh fries. They didn't skimp on them! The woman who took care of us was so hospitable with us and everyone who came in after, offering us refills without us even asking. I was frustrated with a lot of mixed reviews at the handful of other eateries in town, so I decided to take a chance on the L'Amour bistro, and I'm glad I did! I would highly recommend them for a lunch or light dinner.

I was charged $18 for two toaster waffles and two pieces of bacon. The only freshly cooked things on our plates were the eggs and the bacon. Nothing seemed homemade and was slapped together without flavor or thought. Frozen hashbrowns that were ultra overcooked, hard, dried out, cold, and seemed to have been sitting out for some hours before they were served to us. The weak coffee tasted as if it was the third round of water that had gone through the grounds. Ick. Seems like it could have potential but they need new cooks and fresh food.

During our near-annual cross country road trips to North Dakota (well, the opposite corner of the…read morestate, anyway... outside of Grand Forks) we always try to plan a day to enjoy Theodore Roosevelt National Park. With COVID-19 high in everyone's consideration list, we planned our stops carefully. Of course In this town, most folks looked at us wearing masks like we were "Gulldern Californians" (we are) and acted like we should care what they thought (we didn't.) a few smart ass comments from some real tough guys-- you're a total bad-ass talking to my eight year old daughter like that, Cletus) but nothing worth going to jail for, and I just tipped my cap and wished folks a very nice rest of the day. As for the Convenience Store, it's one of the few places in town this trip that showed real appreciation for my tourist dollars, and kindness just because "Uffdah, yeah you betcha!" Nice people here. We gassed up for our car tour through the national park, bought some drinks and snacks, and even some little trinket for my youngest son. They have more items than you'd think they would... steaks and dairy stuff? Cool beans. OG gas pumps... they work great... if you don't like it, Dickinson is another 35 miles East. We'll be back to see our friends here. Yep, maybe we'll wear masks just to cheese-off the locals.

We stopped by this shopping locale just minutes away from the entrance to the park. Outside there is a window where one could watch the taffy machine that stretches and pulls the candy mass. Inside the shop and to the left is another window and we could watch employees operate the candy wrapping machine. I'm not really fond of taffy but I always look for my favorite at a candy shop... Milk Chocolate Peanut Clusters. I am fortunate that I'm not allergic to peanuts because I love these crunchy, salty delicious treats. I made my way to the counter to look for my favorite... I purchased two pieces of the chocolate peanut clusters because they were huge and loaded with peanuts! No, not your See's Candy (although I love their peanut clusters too). Sweet, salty, and nutty... so yummy! Review #3497

The thing is they have tons of candy from the 60s and 70s that we thought they didn't even make any more, like Bit-o-Honey, that flat taffy in waxed paper, the Turkish taffy bars you smack on the table and they break into chunks, Zagnut bars, and Clove and Black Jack gum and a lot more. If you are of a certain age and nostalgic for the candy you remember as a kid, this is a fun shop. We also got some cashew clusters and some very cute personalized picture frames (which were most of the $50). Although RL did put the kibosh on the (genuine cedar) slingshot!
