Amazing service, communication, friendly and honest!! Got a quote last week from Alejandro and full service completed in one day, yesterday. New sprinkler heads, valves and automatic water system set up. Alejandro was so professional and friendly. He came out and provided a quote, was there bright and early yesterday with a colleague. He left after discussing what would happen and told us to reach out if we needed anything. His one guy spent all day digging out, flushing and replacing all the sprinkler heads. Water was turned off for only about an hour as he replaced all 5 water valves. Then Alejandro came back at the end of the job to set up the automatic water system and test everything one last time. My folks are elderly and have been neglecting their lawn and so many sprinkler heads were completely buried, and the water timer was at least 30 years old. I would use Hidden Gem Landscaping again in a heartbeat!! Already recommended them to friends for other projects. Tried to offer them a tip since they replaced way more sprinkler heads than what we discussed and thought would need to be replaced thinking that the price for parts at least would adjust the initial quote, but Alejandro kindly refused. read more

I THINK he does good work. His team did some basic grass cutting for us one time and then we agreed to larger projects including more landscaping to change our yard to a drought tolerant one and trimming of trims but he disappeared. Said he was busy, no problem I get it, but even when I have him the 2-3 weeks he needed to focus on other projects, he stopped replying to any messages. So while I think he can do good work based off the basic grass cutting, the customer service is severely lacking. If you're not one of his bigger projects, he has no time to complete the work he agreed to do nor does he have time to even reply to you. Don't waste your time. Go with someone else who both does a good job AND cares about your business to not disappear on you. Unprofessional. read more

The city kept bugging us about our dead lawn and we reached out to several companies for what we thought needed reseeding and sprinkler repair. We shopped around and got several quotes and they were pretty pricey. Alejandro stopped by and took a look and I explained to him our situation with the city and he was the only one that took a look at our dead grass and said that it can be regrown since we had some patches and is the type that just needs to be watered. We ended up installing a inline irrigation valve and timer to our existing sprinklers saving us a lot of money. Hidden Gem will also be taking care of our lawn after it grows back. Similar to a previous review, I requested services from Hidden Gem and, in the middle of the planning process, they dropped communication. I met with Alejandro twice, first for an estimate and second to proceed with the project but with some changes. Up until that point, he and his office assistant were responsive and helpful. He provided recommendations and accommodations for our project and budget. All seemed well. After our second meeting, Alejandro said he would provide a revised quote a couple of days later. That was a month ago and I never received any follow-up. I called and emailed for an update and still have not heard from him. I cannot speak to their work but did experience the lack of follow-up and communication like other reviewers. Nevertheless, I'm grateful that this came up before the project began, since it could have been a larger issue if it happened during it. read more

Alejandro came to our home twice in the span of two weeks to get familiar with the work, and seemed very accommodating and helpful in person. We are pretty visual people (and my other half couldn't make one of our meetings), so we were told that 3D renderings were offered for $400, but if we signed up to complete the work, the $400 would be credited toward the bill. We received a quote, accepted it, and then WEEKS went by without a reply on multiple numbers. We finally got someone who said their texting systems were down, and then they continued to ignore us for another week. We were fully prepared to give this guy upwards of $20k; we really liked him. Incredibly disappointing and equally surprising. We've disputed the charge with our credit card company, and we urge anyone reading this to go elsewhere for your landscaping needs. read more

We found Alejandro and Hidden Gem while looking for a landscaper to provide a quote for landscaping on our backyard. We'd had several consultations with other companies but with very little follow-up in the past. It was getting really frustrating. We turned to Yelp! Hidden Gem was recommended to us by MC Landscaping in Long Beach. I contacted Alejandro initially through Yelp and then via text. He was always prompt about responding. We scheduled a consultation and he arrived on time and was enthusiastic about our ideas for a landscaping project. He made great suggestions and drew a detailed mock-up for us. He even let me text picture ideas so he could get a better idea of the types of plants and colors we liked. He also worked with us on the budget and sent us different ideas for flexibility.  Alejandro worked hard and his crew were very courteous. They always cleaned up at the end of the day and were very friendly. It took him and his team about two weeks to get everything done (it rained a ton in the week that they started so it naturally postponed some of the work). Alejandro and his guys also graciously helped us take down an old, metal shed that was in the back yard and power-washed the concrete pad which now looks amazing! We LOVE our newly landscaped backyard and our amazing planter boxes. We can't wait to enjoy the space for years to come. I was impressed by the positive reviews on Yelp & reached out to this company on August 23rd to see if they do gravel and/or concrete for a few projects at our new home. The phone was answered, we set an appointment for 4pm and everything started well. When I had not seen nor heard from anyone come 4:30pm, I followed up to make sure we were still meeting. I received a text response that he was stuck in traffic and should arrive by 5:30. Okay..and hour and a half late and you didn't think to reach out to let me know? Once he arrived, he was pleasant. Hidden Gem created a flagstone hardscape in a curbing strip, including a planter around an existing palm tree. I was very specific in what I wanted, including color range of flagstone and design of the planter. Samples of the materials were brought to the job site as part of the selection process. Great attention was paid to properly preparing the ground beneath so the end result would not only look good but remain stable over time. (Unlike other flagstone projects I have seen.) I worked with both Alejandro and the very knowledgeable and responsive office manager Yesenia. The results exceeded my expectations and we have had numerous compliments from passers by in an upscale neighborhood. We commissioned Alejandro to remove the bamboo in our backyard that was along our back wall and was very established. He showed up at the date and time agreed upon and was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. We agreed on another time for him to come back and remove the bamboo at a reasonable price. Along with this, he was to plant other plants in the bamboo's place, plants that he recommended and would bring. He was on time and removed all of the bamboo and the roots, which was a considerable amount of work. He came back the next week with beautiful plants and planted them along the fence in place of the missing bamboo. This is a second review for Hidden Gem's work on my backyard (see my first review for their awesome work on my front yard this year, too). My backyard had been a disaster for years, complete with an overgrown fig tree, thousands of square feet of dead grass, fire ants, clover, possums, and an old shed ready for retirement. Alejandro and the team made quick work of clearing out the grass, removing all the weeds, yanking the fig tree, dismantling and disposing of the shed, and grading the soil. They also trimmed my nice honeybell tree that I wanted to keep, and dug a trench so my electrician could place one of my wires underground. They're just the best. Next, they placed lots of heavy pavers, made a nice design using benda board to border the succulent/cacti areas separate from a nice big decomposed granite pad I wanted for hosting parties and having guests over for bonfires. One of the coolest things that I forgot to take a photo of was the extremely intricate way the drip line hoses were installed. It looked like a massive work of art the way every plant had access to the lines and how every pin was meticulously placed. Alejandro also added an extra hose connector so I can water from multiple places, so awesome! I also had at least 100 plants to be placed, probably more. Some of the bigger cacti and agave weighed at least 100 pounds each. I was so thankful Alejandro and the guys were able to safely and beautifully plant everything. They also placed huge posts for my shade sail and installed it, installed wires on the posts to hang my patio lights, installed my rain chains, placed my rain barrels, and moved a massive boulder Egyptian-style under the Honeybell tree (that boulder alone took almost an entire day!). They literally cleared the yard and rebuilt the entire thing from scratch. This is the second huge project Hidden Gem handled for me this year and I am so grateful. I just need to add my patio furniture, a few nice benches and I'll be all set for next summer. Alejandro is incredibly resourceful, hardworking, creative, honest, and an all-around good person. Plus he's a funny guy and super easy going! I appreciate his help so much, he always goes above and beyond. He also really worked with my budget and gave me lots of options.
