The service here was not great. We were waiting a while for a table for two. After about 45 minutes and seeing that other parties of two who arrived after us were being seated, we checked back in with the hostess. It appears as if we were skipped on their list, as 5 other parties written after us were crossed off and seated before us. After inquiring about this, we were quickly seated. Our favorite go to for breakfast. The Loco Moco is delicious and very filling. Their fried chicken and waffles is also delicious and a big serving of chicken! Spam and eggs is as good as home. Never had a bad meal or experience at Hidden Cafe. Cinnamon rolls are the best. read more

Recently visited for the first time, should have come sooner. Right off of Camarillo Springs exit, man is it tucked away. If it wasn't for Yelp we would never have even known it was there. Went with a group of 6 so we tried several things. -Corned beef hash was great, everyone that sampled it said they would definitely order it again. -Chili verde was amazing. I will say the flavor was great, not a ton of meat here so that was the only downfall. -Loco Moco/ Deluxe LM were both good. They weren't listed on the menu but I had seen other reviewers post about it so we asked. They feature on weekends but offer it all the time. -Ham steak was good as well and a large generous portion. Overall we were very happy with our experience here. Food was good, came hot, and on time. Prices weren't crazy either. My so. Took me out for early Mother's Day celebration. Went to Camarillo airport restaurant - it was closed due to power issues in restaurant. WS disappointed because we had planned this brunch for weeks. So our son gets on google and finds a few 5 star places in Camarillo - don is from Valencia and I'm from Simi. We chose Hidden Cafe - it really is hidden. I Had the chili Verdi breakfast. SO GOOD. will go back. We talked about how good their food was - even Better than at airport. This cafe is located right off the freeway, but in a hidden plaza among a residential community. Their store sign isn't the most visible. Arrived about noon on a Saturday and the place was still busy with people coming and going. However, I was quickly seated. Ordered the Harvest Scramble and it was loaded with fresh veggies and I asked for the cubed potatoes, which were savory. The meal wasn't greasy and didn't leave a heavy after-feel. I also had a few bites of the sausage, eggs, and fried rice. The fried rice was pretty good, not oily either. Eggs and sausage were standard. Lots of vegetarian options. Yay, another successful visit at a restaurant from my Bookmark List, check check. I can understand how someone who isn't from the area can easily get lost, because yes, this restaurant doesn't have a huge sign that says Hidden Cafe, (hence the name, lol). It's located in a small shopping center surrounded by gated communities, as long as you follow the directions exactly-you'll find this HIDDEN gem. Here's what was ordered: The House Omelet: very flavorful and moist, which is pretty hard to do at many other places. One of the best omelette ever tasted, which consisted of bacon, cheese, olives, tomatoes, sour cream, avocado and onions. Most places over cook their omelettes, here they are cooked perfectly. $9.75 Rib Eye with Eggs: My Mouth-watering Medium Rare Rib Eye, was cooked perfectly with such a juicy pink center. The side of fried rice was very filling which also had pieces of ham, sausage and egg in it. My scrambled (2) eggs was a good amount as a side. This also came with a choice of pancakes, toast or fruit. I chose whole wheat toast and it was already buttered, good stuff. I really enjoyed the fried rice, it reminding me of being back in Hawaii where it's common to have rice for breakfast. MHmmMm, good filling dish for $15.00. Coffee is $2.95/cup. My husband and I were lucky enough to come in and have the restaurant to ourselves. Our server Derek was very attentive and provided great customer. Will we return?! Not sure what all the hype is about. I would call it an "okay" place. It's definitely was below my expectations in appearance (worn and mismatched chairs and tables and not in a cool way), inside seating was so filled with cooking smoke and unventilated that I chose to sit outside with tons of flies. In actuality it's a local place, open from 7am-2pm, in a very casual in a small strip mall. It has an Hawaiian flair, with options like breakfast with mixed fried rice and spam. What did I get? Chili verde with 2 eggs and fried rice. Decent, but nothing to write home about. My dining partner's sandwich was accompanied with fruit salad had to be 3-4 days old; watermelon was peely and transleucent, and the strawberries were very worn. The chicken was good but not the best I've ever tasted. I pulled pieces of it and put it on top of my waffle with some rooster sauce. :) Yum! the combination of sweet, savory, and spicy just put the dish over the top for me! Sounded delicious, and again...I was super hungry. There was only two or three other tables being served. It was about 11:45am on a Wednesday. Other reviews adequately describe the decor and environment. Small, "hole-in-the-wall." Service was standard. No name tags or introductions, so I cannot rate individual staff by name. Back to the food... I attached a picture of my omelette. Compared to other pictures of this item, mine came out a bit different. First the avocado on top was completely smashed. And the rest of the omelette was cold and dry. I was able to pick up the omelette from the end and eat it like a sandwich. I was very disappointed and by its taste and presentation, I truly believe I was served an old omelette that had been sitting there. Have you ever tasted an overly cooked fried egg? That's what it tasted like :( I requested sides of salsa twice to try and freshen the omelette and bring it back to life. Hidden Cafe is a real gem. Found this place once we moved to the neighbor and boy are we glad we found it, so lucky to have a great little spot like this down the street from our house :). Service: 5 Stars- they keep this restaurant well staffed, for being such a little place they really have it staffed well and keep it moving. All of the servers we've had here are friendly and prompt. Also love the manager/owners here they are friendly and welcoming always. Price: pretty good for the quantity and quality of the food your getting. I'd say for 2 people your looking at $20-25 bucks but again I feel it's totally worth it. Food: great 5 star breakfast and lunch items! I have yet to try a dish I didn't like. Everything here is tasty, filling, and unique. Recommendations: -For breakfast on the weekends you have to try their Hawaiian style Loco Moco! It's one of the best dishes I've ever had! I'm fan-girliing over here! I heard about this place from friends and was intrigued. I imagined a small rustic restaurant tucked away behind some palm trees by the golf course so I was surprised that it was actually in a strip mall. But don't let this fool you- once you're inside viewing the menu and realizing there are some island favorites on the there you pretty much forget the strip mall or Camarillo or that you're on the mainland. This is serious Ono Grindz-so good! The family is from Guam but they have the Portuguese sausage & eggs, loco moco, kahlua pork etc. All served with that delicious Guamanian Finadene sauce IYKYK. The couple next to us told us they were just there the day before and had to come back, and might actually come back for lunch the next day. Luckily, on the way out our server told us they were closed on Mondays (well, unlucky for us actually). The homemade cinnamon roll was absolutely amazing!!!! By far one of the best ever. Philly cheesesteak was good, could have actually used some cheese, I couldn't find any. BUT...the fries were really good. The biscuits and gravy were really good as well. Coffee was strong and tasted like it had been sitting on warm for a while. We were in after noon, so it was probably sitting a bit. Would have given five stars, but the hostess was about as welcoming as a wet mop. No personality or listening skills, and it was a big effort for her to walk across the restaurant to come and seat us. The person at the front desk was rude and short with us, and when she realized how rude she had been, tried to make up for it by asking how our day was.....little to little to late. One of my go to places when visiting Ventura County. Used to love to come get my Filipino food fixed with daily specials that included my fav: adobo! I enjoy being able to get a home made meal just like what I would make at home without all the cleaning and dishes. Instead of toast I choose fried rice with my breakfast. Yum!
