Leave the driving to them! Myself and I'm wondering how many others are guilty of not leaving reviews when service is good, great , or excellent. I had trepidation, reading a few reviews and hiring Hickory hop. It turns out like any organization they have had an employee that didn't work out., And the situation was quickly resolved once it came to their attention. My experience was excellent. They called me the night before and prompted me to call once I landed in Charlotte. They were clear and direct on time of pick up , courteous and enjoyable. The 3 hour total drive went very quickly as chose to lightly chat with the friendly, interesting and personable drivers. The stop over in the small private airport easy a basic snack bar/ café, a neat small airport museum, and a very quick break between rides that again was brief and just as they described, e.g. 15 minutes later, my second driver and van came. I strongly recommend Hickory Hop and don't forget to ask about the punchcard. read more

I have literally never encountered such a hateful person who works in customer service as I did the driver for Hickory Hop today. The eye rolling, not helping load our bags, looking me up and down as I profusely apologize for being late and attempt to load 6 giant bags into their shuttle by myself. Her making comments under her breath and audible enough for us to hear - all because we were running a little late, was insane. Backstory - I now live in Nevada and my mom is from Granite Falls - which means that we travel a lot. Like several times a year back and forth to visit each other. We've taken the Hickory Hop more than 20 times at least and have never had this problem. This is the first time that I've visited NC with my infant child and am trying to get home with him and my mom. Packing things for a baby to travel across the country is hard and I made a couple missteps which caused us to be about 5 minutes late. You would have thought we had shot this woman's dog by the way she was acting when we arrived. Honestly, would have been better if she had just left because she about left me in tears and after a few minutes of all the attitude and comments, I did say something about the attitude to her and she engaged right back with me - I asked her if she had kids and to give a little grace and she said "I have children and I've never been late a day in my life." Rude. After being incessantly mean for the first few minutes, I knew there was no way she was going to wait for me to hook up his car seat, which would take a few more minutes and so we just called around to find family who could take us the rest of the way. Hickory Hop is an unethical organization. We had a reservation to go from Charlotte, NC to Boone, NC to go to a yoga retreat at Art of Living Oct 4-6, 2024. The facility where we were headed to informed us that due to the damage from Hurricane Helene, the roads were closed unless it was emergency travel, and that the facility was canceling our event, and would not be in service that weekend. They gave us a full refund. Hickory Hop however is saying that the facility was lying, that the roads were all clear and open and refusing to refund. The attached picture is from yesterday, 10-9-2024. It clearly says that travel is only for essential vehicles. This is also a link to the NC FEDERAL DOT website, showing the same information- https://drivenc.gov/ . Also, after the hurricane, a new pop up went on the Hickory Hop website- that there would be no refunds if travel was to Art of Living. This pop up was placed AFTER the hurricane. I've used their shuttle service many times. At first they seemed ok, and it was very convenient. But within the last year or so their customer service has become unbelievably rude and demeaning. I've even had a driver try to get into an altercation with me because I was 5 minutes late. Unreal. I would understand if they couldn't wait for me due to their schedule. But to move to being angry and extremely rude was not acceptable behavior and certainly no way to run a business. As you can see, another passenger gave a review of the dangerous driving. I have spoken with 2 other passengers who did not give reviews who felt endangered. Also, I sent a written complaint via email through the website the day the incident occurred. The company says they did not receive it. Also, one month ago Patrick said he had not pulled the video yet and I encouraged him to do so. Also, I did not use the return trip tho Zack says I did. Buckle up buttercup! Do yourself a favor and buckle your seat belt in a rental car instead of this shuttle van! Please note I very rarely write negative reviews. I wish I could give zero reviews. This may be the longest review I have ever written, but I'm trying to save anyone from an awful experience. For the owner, I do think offering the shuttle service has the potential to be valuable, AND I hope he will take the time to read all the reviews on Yelp and other travel review sites, which are mostly one star. As a business owner, it is key to get feedback, check on how your employees are treating customers, care about, and then implement the feedback to make service better. I paid ahead for a roundtrip reservation. Early in the morning, I emailed the company know my flight was slightly late, with the new eta. They have your flight #. The shuttle was scheduled to leave at 1:30. I called them when I landed and hurried to baggage claim. I had a carry on but the airline made me check it as becoming more common. The manager Cathy called me FIVE times while I was running to baggage claim asking me when I was exiting the airport. Then someone else from the office called me and I said I was doing my best. Cathy said some had arrived early and the other people had been waiting and her driver didn't want to wait for me. I told her I was doing my best and that bags were being unloaded. I told her that their website said 1:30 not 1:15, and then I would be there in a minute. she said she would have her driver circle twice, but they would only wait 60 seconds after 1:30. Then she hung up on me. She then told me she would call me before the driver left, and that otherwise I would have to wait until the next shuttle which was THREE HOURS LATER!I begged her to to have them wait, I was crying, and she said no. I RAN out of the building with my luggage at 1:31 to the shuttle and the driver had just left. I called their office and spoke to Cathy (the manager) and asked her to PLEASE have the driver pick me up, and she said no. Get this: I had a friend on that shuttle that said all of the people were willing to wait for me, she said no one was complaining, and that my friend asked the driver if she could run out and get me and call my name-the driver said "No, she has had enough time." THIS WAS 1:31, if a company advertises they'll leave at 1:30, they should not call customers, yell at them, and badger them to be early, than hang up on them, esp if you're a manager-what the heck? My friend was also called and told to rush. Other reviews also mention the vans sometimes leaving earlier than promised on their website. Then she hung up on me. I called my family and friends and they were completely shocked that someone would not wait even a few minutes. Keep in mind this was a 3 hour ride. If it were a short ride to a hotel, I would have taken a ride share no problem, but were were going 3 hours. I eventually took the 4:30 and of course it was then rush hour and took ages, and I got to dinner 5 minutes before it closed, having missed a whole day at my destination. As a business owner myself and someone who has worked in customer service for many years, I would never dream of treating a customer like that. It was rough entry to NC, and I missed a whole day at the place I was going. All the other drivers that I rode with were decent, but all of them seemed super rushed. I waited until 4:30 because there was no other choice unless I wanted to rent a car and the manager said I would not get my money back if I chose to do so. I think the point of a business, esp a small business is to provide good service, keep your word, and be kind. I was completely upset and it ruined my day. It was so upsetting to be left. If I were the driver, I would have waiting at least 10 minutes, understanding that sometimes it takes that time to get your bags. And if I had been a passenger on the shuttle and I were there before 1:30, I would not have minded at all waiting for a woman for even 5/10 minutes, much less 60 seconds (!) rather than leaving her and making her wait THREE Hours at an airport when she was promised to be on that ride. Everyone on the shuttle was willing to wait, it was the driver that refused to wait until 1:31. Harassing a customer by calling 6 times and hanging up when they are doing their best to get to you, and not letting them on a van for being 60 seconds late was rude, ridgid, mean, and downright bad customer service. If you care about running a business, your employees need serious customer training, or else hire some kinder more flexible staff. 10 minutes is not unreasonable to wait for someone, nevermind 60 seconds. Just awful. Potential customers, do yourself a favor and rent a car and spare yourself! PS whoever called me on the phone aside from the manager when I was waiting, which was the 6th call I got when I was waiting at baggage claim never even apologized! read more

They are very rigid on the schedule except when it Suits them. We were picked up at 7 am at the art of living center. I was told they do not wait even one minute and will leave. Fine, we made arrangements for the center to start their shuttle early. We were picked up at 7 and first stop was the mall, where we waited a few minutes for the people. We got to the Hickory airport and our driver said it was just a driver switch. Except after sitting in the van over 30 minutes with no one there we finally called and we're told we just sit there until nine, which was another . "you can come in" except there isn't anything there. Why were we rudely informed they dont wait yet had us waiting for what would have been an hour. The agents were very rude. I had arranged a pick up from Charlotte airport, initially they scheduled 10.30am then changed to 10am, I made sure I reached 5 minutes before 10am, The driver arrived 20 minutes late with no communication with us at all. On return shuttle to Charlotte airport, initially scheduled for 7.30am then changed to 7am the night prior and the day off the driver takes off at 7.05am without us, again with no communication. When we called , we were basically told " Too bad you missed it , now go arrange another transportation on your own with whomever you like". I have a diabetic alert service dog. My personal assistant made my reservation last minute this evening due to a delayed flight and forgot to mention my service animal. A sincere oversight- zero harm or disrespect intended. I was accosted by the driver and as soon walked towards the van for having a dog, then as I got inside the van heard the female dispatcher being snarky into the two way intercom about it. Profoundly unprofessional. They said if they had other passengers in the car it would have been "an issue" because not everyone is "ok" with dogs. Does that mean they would have refused service had they known? Service animals are not ill behaved pets that people have a choice whether or not to tolerate. A legitimate medical service dog is like a living medical device. My service animal provides a medical service and is so quiet no one ever even notices she is there. If you run a professional service it is wise to be versed in the legality of your behavior and adopt an attitude congruent with the law. read more

I sat in the front passenger seat of a shuttle on May 2, 2024. Our driver, Raylene, exhibited road rage in relation to other vehicles on the road. She tailgated, laid on her horn and gave the finger to other drivers. While she was tailgating she held her cell phone in one hand and made a telephone call. At one point, she swerved dangerously into the right lane to pass a vehicle on the right, then cut back into the left lane cutting off the vehicle in that lane, while at the same time laying on the horn and flipping off the driver. The management of this shuttle service seems remarkably disinterested in my experience and the experience of the other passengers on the shuttle with me. I sent email that I got on the earlier flight and could do the 10:30 bus. My friend even called for me and told them the information. They told her that it wasn't a problem. Just be there by 10:30. I got here by 10:08and didn't see anyone called a couple times before I got someone at 10:15 and they informed me that they had already left early and I have to wait for the noon bus. They did not put my name on the list so they didn't bother to wait. So messed up. I practically twisted my already sprain ankle to get here at 10:08 just to be left behind. Rude dispatcher/customer service. When I did not find location of shuttle and called a second time (first time was to confirm I was at airport) to get further help the dispatcher was rude and condescending and talked over me. He kept telling me to go to Zone 1 but there is no reference to "Zones". I told him in ground transportation There are doors 1-4. He insisted I go to ZONE 1. Buyer beware. This business owner is combative. When a mistake was made on my daughter's shuttle reservation, we called to adjust. She made for a Sunday, Hickory Hop booked it for Saturday. When we called, they said there were no spots for the date/time she had wanted to book and it had been booked for weeks. When I asked for a refund since they had booked it incorrectly, the owner said no. He then pitted my daughter's word against his. She is responsible, had her calendar out and was careful about what day/time she wanted and adamant she booked correctly. He would not give a refund or even offer a credit for a ride during Christmas break. I am amazed that someone can run a business with these practices. My daughter said when she initially called to make the reservation he was even rude and short with her then. As a parent, it offers some peace of mind in knowing my college student is dealing with a responsible and ethical company. It ensures safety and well being for her. It is boggling to me that Hickory Hop is a customer driven service that has no regard for customer service, especially in a limited market where you have a golden opportunity to create a good reputation for college students and their families when they visit. Driver out of Blowing Rock was wonderful. The reservations/front office staff were totally rude and unacceptable. We had a stop in Hickory advertised to be "a short stop", which turned out to be 50 minutes. Had to take an Uber from Hickory to Charlotte to make our flight on time. (With my 90 year old Grandfather). When I called Customer Service to provide feedback , I was offered no apology or refund and was told it was my choice to use them or not, given the lengthy delay and poor communication. We will never use them again, and will ensure my Aunt who is in the tourism business in Blowing Rock will never refer them to other guests! read more

I tried to use this company two years in a row. The first year, I had to reschedule my plans and although I let them know several months in advance, they would not change my reservation or give me any sort of coupon code, etc. This year, I purchased a ticket online and then received a call that the seat wasn't available because their "systems don't talk" and will book seats for sold out shuttles. I had a roundtrip reservation with the shuttle to the Charlotte airport. The trip to the airport was satisfactory but the return trip was very poor. I requested a 4:30pm pick up time when I made the reservation and arrived at the airport at 4:15 and called the dispatch number and told them I had arrived. He said the shuttle would be there at 4:30 and I assured him I would be there. I got to the shuttle pick up point at at 4:28 and the shuttle was not there. I called the dispatch number back and he said they left a few minutes early. I had to wait 1 1/2 hours for the 6:00pm shuttle. I called the next day and requested and refund. Drivers are so courteous and lovely, I always appreciate their friendliness and professionalism! But HH please enforce consistency with regard to masks until this stupid pandemic is over. Everyone on your shuttles is going to or coming from an airport, which means they have or will comply with wearing a mask. It's not a huge stretch to ask the same of them (and your drivers) while on the Hop. Most of your drivers do wear them, but it's always stressful wondering whether they will or not and not being sure how/whether to ask them to. I contacted them 6 hours after the reservation to request a cancellation only to find out that "All reservations made for The Art of Living Retreat Center are non-refundable." Been using them every since I moved to hickory. They are fantastic! They will pick you up at your house or to save money you can catch them at the Hickory Airport. A few times my flights to Charlotte have been delayed and they rebooked me in a later shuttle. They ferry all our guests back and forth and never had a problem. The only reason I'm giving this shuttle two stars (instead of zero) is because the drivers were really friendly. Other than the drivers, the rest of this business is HORRIBLE. The customer service center had extremely rude people working there who didn't follow up or confirm the day of arrival as they promised and the shuttle ALMOST LEFT US! Other riders on the shuttle (which they called the "shittle") said that Hickory Hop is known for leaving people and taking their money. The worst part of the ride was that the windows are all blurred out so that you can't see the beautiful NC scenery. My particular shuttle ride was a 3-hour ride to a retreat, and I saw none of the passing countryside due to the blurred-out windows. Not to mention it made me carsick and I almost ralphed on the lady next to me. If there's another shuttle option rather than Hickory Hop, then I suggest you take it. The woman I spoke to said she would take care of it, but she must have forgotten to write it down. Called back a few weeks later saying that I still had the charge on my card and asking when it would be removed. They said they had no record of me calling and refused to remove the $120 charge. I booked a ride multiple weeks in advance of my travel date. On my day of booking, I received a call confirming my ride for the next day... on that call I let them know that was incorrect and reaffirmed the correct trip details along with my flight information. On my day of travel I waited several hours for my 1:30 bus. When it was 1:15 and the bus had not arrived I called the dispatch number listed on their website multiple times and left several messages. I then got a call asking where I was... they reversed my trip in their system and informed me I would now have to wait several more hours for the next bus. The woman on the line had the audacity to ask me why I did not call them earlier! She said "I said we were sorry and it was our fault but why didn't you call?" I offered to share my call logs and informed her I booked the trip correctly, reminded them of the details multiple times. This was completely unprofessional and highly irritating on an already stressful travel date!!! DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICES! I arrived in North Carolina for the first time on October 13th. As my friend lives in Hickory it is difficult for her to come to the Charlotte airport, she suggested the Hop, asking that I get off at Lenoir Rhyne University so I made the reservation for that for two people. Sunshine the driver arrived at the airport right on time. She was fabulous!!! Soon we were at the Hickory Airport and she said thanks for riding with me. I said that this was not our stop, our reservation was to get off at Lenoir Rhyne. She then took me to the office so we could figure out what was going on. The woman at the office (unfortunately I did not get her name) was so rude to me. She said are you student there to which I replied no. She said well we only drop students and walked away from me!! I wish this information had been on the website. The site is not user friendly. I have never encountered such horrible customer service, so much for Southern Charm! I will never ride Hop again.
