I never give establishments this low a of a review, but today is that day. And this is that place.
Picture this: it's a Sunday afternoon, the sun is shining, and your husband suggests a quick, but nice hibachi lunch. It's certainly weird that Philadelphia doesn't have any hibachi options, but we decided to give this place a try.
What we didn't know was how traumatized we would be after arriving here.
First of all, after parking, it was SO difficult to find the place. The parking garage entrance was something out of your worst nightmares. That should've been a sign, but we kept going. Then we entered the elevator. The elevator's expiration is this month. Now I don't know anything about elevators, but certainly this thing was rickety AF and deserves to be checked out again...yesterday. Again, another red flag, but we were hungry for chicken teriyaki so we kept on.
After cresting and arriving at the top floor, we entered their "lobby" which looked like the most barren and suspicious place I've ever seen. Nothing on the walls, no extra signage, and then we looked to our right to see two couches we may or may not have seen once in questionable online videos. The vibe and first impressions were NOT it, but we weren't quitters, so we pressed on in our mission. We then reached the "host stand." There were two people manning it and we asked for a table for two. She said it would be a 10 minute wait. Ok? Fine, that's cool. I didn't want to go sit on the questionable couch, but we did. We then noticed how barren the place was. We didn't sense any movement or noise in the dining area, but only witnessed workers walking around. After a few brief moments, our hostess walked us back to the dining room...and man oh man was it EMPTY. What exactly were we waiting on? All the ghost patrons? I mean, hopefully they left satisfied because I didn't see anyone!
She sat us around a hibachi grill and said the server would be right with us. Ok? Cool. We were looking at the menu that had a hand written note that said "no sushi." What does that mean? Was the guy out sick? I had questions, but unfortunately nobody was there to answer them because after 15 minutes of us sitting there listening to static radio over the loudspeaker we decided that this was all too traumatic to bear and realized that eating Chipotle in the comfort of our own home would be 10000000 times better. We got up, left, and the hostess told us to have a good day not realizing we got up to leave because nobody had yet greeted us.
We laughed so hard and took the stairs. Please please please avoid this place. It's truly something out of a SAW movie and the plastic cutlery would not have been enough to save you from the disaster that would've been dinner. I wish I could've reviewed the food and drink, but unfortunately we never got that far.
My advice? Avoid at all cost and drive to Jersey for a better hibachi dinner...that involves no panic attacks. read more
