Salmon bento w/California roll and spring roll
Courtney J.

Looking for some quick hibachi or sushi fix after class? This place might be the ticket. I went during a lunch rush, and got my food within 10min. I got the salmon bento and a spicy crab roll. The salmon was cooked SUPER well done, which I did not like, but the overall flavor was good. The spring roll was mushy on the inside, and that wasn't pleasant but the bento box fills you up. The spicy crab roll is good, with mild heat to me. It has the crunchy bits in it though, which I don't like much. Overall, I would come back, but I would try some different rolls and maybe a shrimp bowl or bento. This meal cost 15$ which is on the pricier side for an express style type of hibachi.

Hibachi Steak

Hibachi House was such a staple when I was in school. I've since moved away from Columbia but stopped here on a visit back. Oh, how I've missed it! You get so much food for under $10, it's insane! I always get the steak hibachi since it is cooked to order and I like it rare. You'll want to order an extra white sauce, thank me later. When I was in school, sometimes it was a long wait. This time it wasn't (on a Friday night), but that might have been since it was break. If you're looking for cheap, no-fuss, comfort food, this is your place!

Tempura in bento box is amazing and authentic, the dressing/sauce (soy-sauce type) is great. Unbelievable!

Food and portion size are great. You may be waiting a while for your food though if it is busy due to the lack of kitchen space.

It's not bad for a quick pick up and go, but the food isn't amazing. The steak was pretty decent but the rice wasn't great.

this is my new go to asian market in five points!…read more let's start off by saying, you have to push the red button to get in and out. idk if that's a japanese thing or not however, even in its simplicity, it's so dope. this is a dope market that has so many different japanese packaged treats. from fruit cream jelly candies to dried squid, chances are you'll find authentic japanese packaged goods here. don't expect many frills as it's a simple and small market but the true gem is the food they prepare fresh onsite. the owner is the absolute kindest person. they have bentos for you to order as well as dons but today i opted for shumai, takoyaki, and two different onigiri (tuna mayo and the ume which is japanese pickled plum). when i tell you this all hit!! they make the onigiri fresh to order and they have six different options for you to choose from. the takoyaki was so well balanced between sweet, savory and sour. the shumai were standard however still delivered. the onigiri was the star for me. i have missed the taste of japanese pickled plum (ume) and they hit it out of the park with this simple dish. if you've never had onigiri it's not super fancy or complicated. it's basically a filling of your choice, stuffed in a ball of rice and wrapped with nori. when done right, they are amazing! if you're in the mood for an authentic experience, please show the family over at furusato some love!

The karaage don is a fan favorite for a reason. Crispy and juicy chicken on a bed of cabbage, egg, and rice. The vegetable croquettes are always piping hot, fresh from the fryer. I'm not a fan of the bento boxes because you don't get much food. It's a couple pieces of meat with rice and some cold vegetables and maybe a slice of orange. Stick with the bowls and you'll be golden. The store also has a small selection of Japanese snacks, drinks, and sweets. I give this place a 4.9/5!

From the moment we stepped inside, the experience completely shifted. The interior is truly spectacular--quiet, intimate, and thoughtfully designed. The space is petite yet incredibly intentional, and it immediately evokes the feeling of being transported to Japan. While I've never personally been to Japan, this restaurant genuinely took me out of a Western setting and placed me into what felt like a Japanese dining experience. Each table is sectioned off with dividers, which adds a layer of privacy while still maintaining an open, welcoming atmosphere that reminds you that you're still in the United States. It's a perfect balance between intimacy and accessibility, and it contributes greatly to the overall ambiance. I ordered the karaage meal, which came with a cabbage salad and rice. At first, I was concerned it might not be enough food, but it ended up hitting the spot in ways I didn't expect. While I could have eaten more, I was genuinely satisfied and comfortable by the end of the meal, which speaks volumes about the quality and balance of the dish. When placing my order, I also requested soup and mentioned to our server that I had been coughing earlier. Even though I wasn't actively coughing in the restaurant, she went out of her way to bring me hot tea to help soothe my throat. That level of care and attentiveness went well beyond expectations. She was incredibly polite, well-mannered, and made sure we felt genuinely taken care of throughout our visit. The value here is outstanding--not just for the food, but for the service, atmosphere, and overall experience. Everything comes together seamlessly, and it truly feels like a home run. There was no long wait to be seated; we walked in, told them how many people were in our party, and were seated promptly. For dessert, I ordered the matcha cheesecake. I went in with certain expectations based on what I was used to, and while it leaned more toward a New York-style cheesecake flavored with matcha rather than a traditional Japanese-style cheesecake, it was still very enjoyable and well-executed. Overall, everything--from the value and location to the food, service, and atmosphere--was excellent. I would absolutely recommend this place and plan to return the next time I'm back in town. I'm looking forward to trying more items on the menu and bringing more friends along with me. A sincere thank you to the young lady who went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience.

I have mixed feelings…read more I ordered a ramen soup with pork. It tasted 'ok'. Not the worst I've had, not the best. I was happy to try it though. What I didn't really like was their policy of charging money for tap water. You don't expect this in America. I went to their soda machine to get some water, thinking there would be some cheap $0.01 plastic cups, and that's when I saw a sign saying you have to pay for water. NOT what I expected after ordering and paying for a ramen soup. I asked if there was any way to get a free cup of water, thinking maybe they kept the cups behind the counter, and they said no, you have to buy a cup for the tap water. In my mind, if you have to nickle and dime us $0.50 for tap water, you're doing things wrong as a business. Charge what you have to so people don't have to ask about paying money for tap water and you don't have to put up stupid signs saying you have to pay for water. I mean, come on. That looks SO PETTY and CHEAP! This place was so low life, they even had signs saying don't sit down until you order something taped on the walls all around the restaurant. That really made it look cheap. Where am I, China? Pakistan? Didn't feel like Japan... and certainly didn't feel like America. I didn't try to use the restroom. I don't know if they charge a fee for that... or the toilet paper... I think we as a society need to strongly push back against this type of 'fee' trend in restaurants. Yea, it's their business and they can run it the way they want, but I can also give a poor review and not come back. Your choice. I would of tipped the worker $3-4 based on service. Instead I was charged $0.50 and won't come back.
