The tacos were terrible. They are all fried, every part of them. Tortillas are smothered in mozzarella cheese? Cooked in more oil. You cant even taste the flavors of the ingredients because its over powered with grease. Just destroyed the lobster which tasted like it was from a can anyway. We've been here a week, all the food has been incredible and fresh... until this place. Never again. They need to redo their menu for the taco advertisement. Best food truck in the area! HI.Shack serves large portions of delicious crab/lobster rolls and tasty drinks. For all that you get, the price is more than fair. I also appreciate that it's located to so many other food truck options so everyone in your group can try something different (but this spot is the obvious choice). Food: I had the Bansilog. I heard there was Filipino food in Waikiki so I had to check it out and it happened to be breakfast. It's tasted great. I had to ask for the vinegar sauce which they forgot to bring out. It really hit the spot and it had a hard boiled egg too but I think it was their version of a salted egg, I think. I love salted duck eggs. I wasn't feeling it though. I think cuz it was over boiled and had a ring of sulfer around the egg yolk. Nonetheless less I liked and enjoyed my meal. Ambiance: I like that it has outdoor seating and is open and airy. It look like in the evening there is space for a performer or duet performers. It would be nice to check it out in the evening and try their dinner menu. Service: The service wasn't great. However, it could be the result of finding people to work. They needed the help. I'm not sure when they opened so if they are new then they can still be ironing out the kinks. I wasn't served a menu so I got up and got it myself since a couple after me was served a menu and water before me. Then I returned the menu to tell them what I wanted but they decided to come to my table to take my order. They were working hard so I'm not saying they weren't working. They were hustling. They said my order would take awhile cuz the kitchen was backed up! I'm ok with that since they told me upfront. I gave a three due to the slow service but I will have to come back and try it again. Honestly I did not expect this burger to be that good lol. Came from the google reviews and were a little hesitant to eat here but decided to anyway. We got the cheeseburger and it came with fries. The fries were nice and crispy, with that oily crust coating. The burger had all the standard things you get in a burger plus a pink sauce. The bun was nicely toasted and there was a good amount of sauce/cheese to topping ratio. Service was extremely friendly and even though we got takeout, we didn't have to pay until after getting our food. Definitely a good spot for big groups- they have a large restaurant. Aloha. Went here while I visited Honolulu, my hotel was literally across the street from here. So, I walked. Do not need a car really in Hawaii I believe ... but if you are driving there's only street parking and it's VERY limited. If you are driving a moped that might be much better. I ordered two dishes. My favorite was the steak, I can't really remember the exact menu name for it. I had it with white rice and fresh veggies. Another day I order the pineapple shrimp and rice platter served inside a pineapple- didn't care for this dish too much. But the dishes was cooked by two different cooks, and I think if the first cooked the second dish it would have been better. BUT I STILL LOVE THIS PLACE. I also ordered Pineapple Lemonade- THE BEST IN THE WORLD. SO MYCH FLAVOR - a burst of flavors in my mouth they have the mixture and syrups down pack. I saw a social media post about Hi Shack and had to check it out! AND, I was not disappointed!! The restaurant is very nice and easy to find. However, parking can be a bit challenging. The Staff is very friendly and the food was excellent! I'm originally from the East Coast and I know Lobster and I'm always a bit skeptical when buying lobster here. However, their lobster rolls are tasty and priced fine for the location!! Since it's right off Kalakaua Ave, you get the Waikiki vibe!! Which I enjoy!! I do recommend this as a wonderful place to get a great meal! Mind you, I only had one meal - they have a very extensive menu and I am so looking forward to coming back and tasting many more items! Best Philly cheese steak in Hawaii? I discovered Irie Jerk Chicken March 3, 2023 at the newly opened food truck stop at the corner of Ala Moana and Kalakaua. Came back March 8 and Irie Jerk Chicken was closed for the day, apparently ran out of food. Tried Hi.Shack truck stop next door. Took 25 minutes for food to arrive. The $15 Philly cheese steak came on a 9" hoagie roll, toasted and buttered with thin strips of ribeye steak slathered with white cheese. They say it came with mushrooms and bell peppers, but saw only a few. Understandable, as bell peppers go for $7 a pound in the islands. No skimping on meat here, as the sandwich was juicy and delicious, good value for the price. Sandwich came with fries, thin, crunchy and brimming with flavor, salted just the right amount. Wife had the $25 seafood pasta bowl, which came with primarily shrimp and some bay scallops. Few clams, and mussels as they must have been out of them. Disappointed in the scallops, as the tiny bay scallops lacked flavor. Wife would have been better off ordering the $20 shrimp scampi for a couple of dollars less, and more shrimp. Best Philly cheese steak in Hawaii? Certainly the best fries. Would have ordered more fries, except for the 25 minute wait. This food truck is located next to Ohana Hale Waikiki. They sell mostly burgers, sandwiches and pastas. We ordered the Philly Cheesesteaks and it took about 20 minutes. The sandwich was grilled in foil and then cut in half. It was delicious. The hoagie roll had a slight crisp on the edges. The thinly sliced ribeye steak had a nice flavor. We ordered the lechon kawali, steak pineapple fried rice & mushroom burger with guava lemonade. Lechon was delicious! Perfectly crispy and good amount given. Pineapple fried rice was just mid- steak was tough. Rice was bland and needed more flavor. My dad had the mushroom burger and he loved it. Seasoned perfectly and you can taste the mushrooms. Guava lemonade was disappointing.. didn't taste like fresh lemonade and tasted water down. Overall we had a great experience and would like to return to try other dishes! read more

Recently went here two days ago. I've actually been here quite a few times and it was WAAAAAY BETTER when the actual owner made the product. Anyway, it's surrounded by about 10 other food trucks (which is lovely and convenient) but the other day I went and 3 Australian (I think they were Australian) women took my order for a frozen pineapple. The first time they made it they put whipped cream on it and it was watered down and it looked pitiful honestly. I don't eat whipped cream nor did they ask if I wanted that... ok people make mistakes and we're all human! I gave them a second chance to make the frozen strawberry pineapple drink... they failed horribly again. I actually showed them a picture of what it should LOOK LIKE and also told them what they are advertising doesn't match the photo. They claimed that's how it's always made but I know that wasn't true because I've been there several times. Hopefully the owner sees this and corrects this issue because these three woman working the truck are going to bring business down!!!! And FAST!!! They didn't have a lot of food products either and were turning people away so that was unfortunate because this was the one food truck I was actually looking forward to patronizing when coming back to Waikiki. We were so excited to see all of the food trucks in the area and checked each one out to decide where to eat. We thought the pineapple fried rice sounded so good, we decided to eat there. The first thing that bothered me was we asked for our receipt and the guy said he already threw it away. Ironically, there's a sign that says if you show your receipt at the Ice cream place next-door, you get 15% off, but they throw away your receipt. It took a pretty long time to get the food, but I thought that was a good sign that it's being cooked fresh, and maybe it is. We didn't even get our drink until the food came up, but the honeydew lemonade was outstanding! The pineapple itself was fresh and delicious, the shrimp was cooked well, but everything else that was supposed to be in the pineapple was virtually nonexistent except for rice. Nothing had any flavor whatsoever. I barely found any spam, never encountered any bacon, almost no peppers, and absolutely no flavor. We planned to take in Yelp Hawai'i's #TravelLikeALocal event at Waffle and Berry, which featured a complimentary deluxe açaí bowl at the Ohana Hale Food Truck Park. Since we found street parking along the Ala Wai Canal, just a block away from Kalākaua Avenue, we weren't in a rush as we arrived about a half hour before the event started, so we wandered around the food truck park and were led by the delicious cooking aromas from Hi. Shack. My deep-fried food-eating husband quickly noticed "Amazing Fries" on their menu and decided to have brunch before the event while I wanted to roam around the food truck park. I continued to wander around the food truck park and realized that my husband had abandoned me. Tsk, no wonder some people glanced at me with strange looks because I was walking around and talking to myself. Anyway, I cut my wandering short and found my husband at Hi. Shack's order window, where he took it upon himself to order a Crab & Lobster Roll Combo for me and the Lechon Kawali (Filipino-style roasted pork belly) plate lunch for himself. FOOD: - Crab & Lobster Roll with Fries Combo includes a can of soda or water: The lightly toasted and buttery split-top bun was stuffed with real crabmeat filling and topped with sautéed lobster tail meat. I noted the crabmeat filling didn't contain a lot of mayonnaise, and the fresh celery, dillweed, and lemon flavors shined through. The cool temperature of the crabmeat filling topped with fresh and hot sautéed lobster meat made for a flavorful taste. The bun was tasty, too, and boosted the shellfish flavors. However, as much as the bun was filled with shellfish, I scraped the filling out to eat with the fries because it was too much bread for me. I gave more than half of my fries to my husband before pushing away the bun. The can of Coca-Cola was icy cold and had a lot of carbonation in it, but I gave it to my husband because I don't usually drink soft drinks. Still, this was a delicious and filling sandwich combination at a good value. $18.50 - Lechon Kawali (Filipino-style roasted pork belly) Plate Lunch. The lechon kawali plate lunch included steamed white rice, Filipino salsa or Salsa Fresca, and a small container of sawsawan (Filipino vinegar dipping sauce). My husband enjoyed the flavors and textures of the roasted pork belly. He noted that the pork belly pieces had a good ratio of crisp skin:fat:meat that the sawsawan enhanced with each dip. The only thing he didn't care for was the steamed white rice on his plate. He said the rice was dry and not steaming hot, so he gladly commandeered my fries and soda. Both of our lunches were generously portioned (wrist-bending upon pick up) and flavorful. Hi.Shack's prices represent a good value of their products and fast and friendly service.
