Excellent dining experience. Quaint, cellar seating area typical for berlin. Small fireplace at one end of the room and various homemade pantry items scattered around - è.g. Juice and vinegar. We loved the fact that they try to make as many ingredients in house as possible. Gracious server and owner. No beer on tap - they are more into wine and have a great list. Nice german bottled beer to try though.
The menu is short and creative - you can choose a 3-8 course surprise tasting menu from €38 and give the chef guidance as to what you like or don't for the menu. Or go a la carte. They started me with a caramelized salmon with pickles, mustard and olives which was nice and delicate. The salmon itself was a little weak in flavor but overall a nice constellation. The main was the classic herz and niere - calf heart and liver. I loved the heart - medium rare and very tender. It was surrounded by different vegetables prepared to a T: radish, mushroom, parsnip, carrots, etc. The dessert was a chocolate cake (rather dry) with a delicious ice cream and hazelnuts. Also tried a sandorn (sea buckwheat) ice cream with passion fruit foam in a mini fish bowl - super.
The waiter guided us to a pinot noir from Baden - the most southeastern corner of german (schwartzburgunder trube??) - intense and minerally but very much a Pinot noir.
The bread was amazing - very fresh and 3 kinds: a sourdough; a malty, dark bread and a bacon, caraway bread. The herbed butter was also fantastic.
Everything was pleasant, relaxing and delicious. Recommendable and we'll also be back with friends or family. read more
