Far away from the tourist centers and into the local neighborhood is where you can find good and cheap food. Markhalle isn't on any tourist maps thankfully. What can I say. Get the chicken. Yes, the chicken. Like the one stuffed chicken hanging on the ceiling tells you what you should order here. The chicken. It is deliciously crispy, moist and tender. The rustic wood interior is open and thankfully not loud. The service was good. The chicken was excellent. It was so good we decided to order the half of the chicken. Oh, and the pretzel was pretty good as well as the beer. Cheers!

Had an amazing experience here. Felt like a local authentic Berlin German food restaurant. The staff could not have been nicer and more welcoming. The food was incredible. Bit of a wait for food but they warn that each dish is prepared fresh to order.

Great food, friendly staff. I had the blood sausage and kraut with potato salat, was awesome! My friend had the chicken, super juicy and delicious! The beet salat was also very tasty. Staff spoke English and the menu is also translated. Definitely check this place out.

After the place we thought we'd go for dinner turned out to be closed, we made our way here for what turned out to be an excellent meal. The weather was just dry enough to allow us to sit outside under an umbrella and enjoy the comfortable temperature (albeit with the addition of second-hand smoke from other diners, a fact of life in Europe). We ordered two excellent beers and both of us enjoyed the pork knuckle (Schweinhaxe), which was crispy as anything outside and succulent inside. The portion size though was enormous and neither of us could finish--it would be better to have shared one.

Excellent pork knuckle, sausage and beer. The staffs are friendly and the restaurant atmosphere is very laid back. Unfortunately, it is CASH only ~ so make sure you have it, otherwise, you'll wash the dishes....(coming from the waiter )

    Since 1888, y'all.

As I told my companion, when I die, I would like Zur Kleinen Markthalle to be where I end up. Traveling in Europe as an American can be intimidating, but the second we walked in, we felt as though this place had been made for us. Our bartender and waiter not only spoke English--they were witty and friendly, which made us feel immediately at home. The wine and beer selection was succinct and lovely. Our buttered pretzel, bratwurst, and waffle desserts were a delight. It was hard to leave this place--so hard that it was a struggle to head back into the cold January night. Zur Kleinen Markthalle has been around since 1888, and now I know why.

Fantastic local place to get some low-frills eats and beer! Very friendly staff who accommodated us…read morewithout a hitch. We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway -- forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

We tried to go to a nearby Greek place but they were full and kind of rude too. We walked over here and the place was empty at 6:30 pm so a bit worried. No need. The draft Pilsner was very excellent and the food was outstanding and reasonably priced. We got pork schnitzel and meatballs and it was really very tasty. Would recommend!
