We arrived super late in Mother's Day and were worried that they would be closed well after midnight. However, at 12:20am the gold member banner at the end of an empty room rental car offices had one nice man standing there waiting for us. YAY! We picked a hybrid from a few cars and were off quickly with no problems. In a world of rental car nightmares, this was uncharacteristically easy with no issues. Pick up was easy. However, I paid a per authorization hold and it still has not been released after weeks of returning the rental. I've rented from hurts over 10 times this year and I usually have the hold released after 2-3 days tops. I have not been able to speak with anyone at this location regarding the issue. Automated customer service lacks customer service. Even when I call in and press the option for deposit help the automation states the hold will be release after 24hours of returning the rental and the agreement is closed. read more

Hello, I came to Connecticut for business. This review is solely for the amazing young lady (Jennie) behind the counter on Wednesday May 14th around 2:30pm, EST. She was the "ONLY" employee in the entire rental area. There was a line of approximately 15 people. The customers were tired and grumpy; however, "Jennie" was the most professional, patient, courteous, helpful and friendly representative I've come across in a long time. She was the only one there. We walked up to her window and we told her that we had already made a reservation. We wanted to add a few more days to our reservation and she looked like she has had it. When we booked; they offered a Military discount (which was nice). When we asked her if the extra few days price included the Military discount she said "no." She stated that she would have to erase our whole reservation and start all over if we wanted to include the discount. I don't see the problem here. Isn't it her job to do that? Car; we got a mid-size car. There was not that much to choose from (I get it, it's a small airport). We chose the most decent car we could find. The outside was not bad, but the inside was dirty. It had sand all over and one of the employees said that they do not clean or care about the inside...oOookay. Returning the car...returning the car was interesting. You literally drive in and leave the car. The girl who walked over to car did not check the gas or anything. She literally gave us a piece of paper and said "okay leave the keys in the car." I'm presidents circle with Hertz and was surprised that upon pick up, there were just compact cars available. Took the nicest one I could find, and had 1/4 of the tank's fuel available. Since I had quite a ride ahead of me and not a large selection, I was stuck getting to a gas station right away. Took pictures of the mileage and fuel levels before I drove off the lot. Returning was easy, even though the check in attendant said they hadn't noted the fuel level properly. I showed the pictures just to prove the conditions. Car was just OK - Versa with basics was all I could get this trip. Had to pick up my boss on this trip and as he's a bigger guy, it was difficult for him to be comfortable. read more

I rented a car from Hertz. A couple of dings from a hit and run in a parking lot...I didn't even see it. .. My insurance covers it. Then Hertz not only wants the $500 deductible, but they want another $600 in administration fees that the insurance didn't cover...HERTZ cant show proof the car was fixed, THE original sales person never offered extra insurance as an option and they aren't willing to work with me for payment options. Beware the electric car rental from Hertz Bradley airport! I rented a mangers special and the only choice was an electric car (KIA). I used up most of the battery on day one only to discover that there are NO super charging stations within a 20 min radius of Southington CT. The only chargers anywhere close are slow chargers which take upwards of 8-16 hours for a full charge. This would mean I'd have to sit and wait for the charge for about 20% of the time I'd rented the car. It wouldn't be so bad if they included a charging cable so I could charge it overnight while I'm sleeping. But alas--no charging cable. When I tried to reach Hertz they had no advice besides calling the local agency. Of course the local desk doesn't answer their phone (multiple attempts) and you cannot leave a message. No recourse! Rented and paid for a car online, When we get to the Hertz counter, the sign says we need to check in. Weird, as gold members, but ok. Wait in line. They tell us to grab a car and head out (why did we wait in line?). We do so, but at the gate (in the car, after waiting for 15 minutes, with multiple cars behind us) they tell us the hertz membership is expired. We both have a membership, I offer to use mine instead of my fiancées, but they tell us we have to return to the counter inside to resolve it. End up standing in line until 2am. Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with any customer facing company. If I could give 0 stars, I would. First off, the guy at the front desk can't even read my license and then sends us to the wrong car. When we try to exit, we are told that we were given the wrong car and to go back and get into a new car. We drive back, move all of our luggage into a new car and then there's no key to be found. I walk back to security and try to talk to them, but they immediately dismiss me and tell me to go to the front office. After 10 minutes of back and forth, they finally tell us to just go back to the original car we were given that actually has keys in it. I've never experienced a more disorganized and inefficient place. The manager and the sales representative were so disrespectful the entire team and just wanted to make everyone as miserable as them. Robbery! I rented a car through Hertz and accidentally left my AirPods and my chapstick in the car. I spoke with a woman named Jenny who happily went out and searched my car for me. She came back with great news ! My AirPods and my chapstick were found! She told me to fill out a report on the company sites in order to have them sent to me and I happily obliged. Over the coming days i continued to call because I heard nothing from the company. I am a student and have no access to a vehicle in order to drive up there and solve the problem myself. The Hertz car rental facility is a very short shuttle bus ride from the Main Terminal of Bradley International Airport. Getting to the rental car facility to pick up my vehicle was easy. The flight from Dulles had been delayed three times, so were late getting in. All of the businesses in the Main Terminal were closed when we arrived. The Hertz board had my name on it and I quickly located my vehicle. And upon return, the drop off was just as painless. I made a car reservation to be picked up on 12/22. I go to pick up my car rental and they tell me they don't have the car I requested. They then offered for me to rent a larger vehicle with a significantly up charge increase. I was never notified prior to walking in the doors and I was not willing to pay $300 more than my reservation amount. I then called headquarters and no one could help me there either. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they explained he was in another call but he would call me back within 30 minutes. It's been hours later and no phone call from supervisor. Renter beware! Hertz has two locations in Windsor Locks. They offered to switch my rental location for $100, which seemed like a lot but I was willing to pay it since I had an early morning flight and would need to return the car before dawn. Upon returning the car, I was charged $275! When I contacted customer service, I was told that the $100 quoted was an estimate and the $275 charge was correct. It is outrageous if a company thinks that an estimate can be off that much and that's ok. I spent weeks going back and forth with customer service to get my points updated, I had to reach out to them 4 separate times and each time I was told this would be escalating and then never heard back. For some reason, my airport rental experiences (with any car rental company) have almost always been disastrous, and yesterday I needed everything to work perfectly since I was getting off a plane around 11:20, had to get the car and go straight to a 12:00 party, and then back 4 hours later for the next flight. The only glitch was waiting for the Hertz shuttle, but we had landed a few minutes early so I wasn't freaking out as much as I normally would. But every other shuttle was outside the terminal and I saw the Budget van come for the 2nd time by the time Hertz showed up, but I was OK, time-wise. I zipped right in when we arrived at the rental lot, the guy at the desk was nice (I wish I knew his name) and I let him know I really would be back within a few hours. It was a little Toyota Yaris (I felt like an amazon woman driving it, and I am only 5'9"), but it moved from Point A to Point B, which is what I needed. Car was clean, didn't smell like anything (bonus points for that), and when I returned, a van driver asked "you're back already?" which was nice, considering how many people they see in a day. The ride back to the terminal was quick, I chatted the whole way with another passenger, and Hertz may have even been able to rent it again last night, win-win for everyone. I read some of the reviews from other gold members who didn't have great experiences, but I did, so thanks Hertz (and I hope everyone else has a better experience next time). read more

Our car was returned with a FULL tank of gas (I topped it off on the airport perimeter) and the employee marked it as completely empty and I was charged 9.99 a gallon for 14.3 gallons. Someone already wrote the same thing below, but I had the same experience. I booked with Hertz b/c I got a good corporate discount. I WILL NOT rent from this location again. Our flight was delayed, so we didn't land until after 1:00 am, when they close. Someone on our plane called ahead before the plane took off and said we'd be landing after 1:00, asking if they'd stay open. They did not. So, all of us who rented a car from Hertz were out of luck. One of the other passengers rented from National and said they stay open 2 hours after the last plane lands. I didn't verify this, but they did have a shuttle picking people up at the airport. Long story short, if there is a chance you will not make it before 1:00 am, DO NOT rent from here. You will be stranded! We picked up the car the next day. Okay, dropping off (Not picking up) was the best experience I've ever had at a car rental. It ALMOST redeems my impression of hertz. I only give 5 stars for exceptional, and this drop-off (the focus of the review) was exceptional. I was traveling with 2 kids, 2 car seats, strollers, luggage and wife. Taking one look at us they checked in our car, then offered to drive us to the airport. The Hertz employee helped unload the car. They told us this is something they do with families in situations like ours. . .and we REALLY appreciated it. Everything else about our Hertz special was fine: Car worked, no issues, was clean. Hertz customer service is both incompetent and just brutally bad. I rented a car out of Hartford (Bradley Airport) for a business trip last week. I did NOT opt for the prepaid fuel option, but agreed to fill the gas tank myself before returning the vehicle, as I always do to save my firm and my clients some money. So, I stopped by a gas station the exit right before the Airport exit (2 miles from the Airport), filled the tank to the brim, to the tune of $33, and dropped it off at the airport rental 5 minutes later. The attendant on duty was a ways away, attending to other things, and hollered out, just leave the keys in the console, which I did, like a million times before. All good, no big deal. The next day I look at the emailed receipt and see that I was charged $88 in fuel charges. I looked on the Hertz website and didn't see a customer service number for a live body, so I call the general customer service line, and there is no option to speak to a live person about overcharges there either, but am directed to the website. So, I dutifully prepare an email on their question/complain template and send it in, explaining what I described above. Yesterday, I received a response from Customer Service Representative "Mailene V" who thanked me for getting in touch and allowing Hertz to address my concerns. The email response that followed said she checked my receive and I did not opt for and was not charged for the prepaid gas option (which, of course, I knew and was not the issue). Mailene then proceeds to send what is likely a form response saying customers who do not select the prepaid option are expected to fill the tank, and if they don't do so, they will be charged and the charges imposed reflect the cost of gas and certain associated administrative charges. In other words, she did not even bother to read my email. Had she done so, she would realized that I had filled the darn tank (right up to the top) and was still charged for gas, which was the entire focus of the email I sent. Now I understand that getting good help might be a challenge these days, but I would at least expect Hertz customer service to be able to read English. Good grief. read more

I had a rental reservation for a mini suv last August from Hertz Bradley Int and did a one way drop to the Pittsfield Hle location as I spend lots of time in the summers there. Phoenix is a coal stove LOL. Anyway the service at the Bradley Int. was TERRIBLE I mean I cannot stand feeling like they are doing ME a favor by doing simple things like asking me to come to the desk and let me know it is my turn and being snippy when I ask the most basic of questions. It was not busy either (1 person before me and one couple were in the lobby and it looked like they were having issues too) get it together Bradley Hertz I am not looking for the red carpet experience just a little dignity and professional courtesy. A long story, but this is the short version. Rented a car on May 6, 2023. Told to take any car in section 3. picked a Chevy SUV. Going through the security gate I was informed it was an EV. Didn't realize this when I got in it. I was told all I Needed to do was plug it in at home and I would be good to go. Car would not charge adequately after 12 hrs and it said I'd would be fully charged by 3:15 Monday afternoon. This was on Saturday morning. Tried to call Hertz and could only get reservations. They told me to call their road service who told me they know very little about EV's. Sent me to a Tesla charging station 20 miles away. Does not work on Chevy ! So now they said all they could do was get a tow truck to pick it up. Their AAA tow truck hauled it away and they charged my Credit Card $200 for the rental and $321 for a tow, $521 for a car that could not get me to my destination!!! UNBELIEVABLE! Windsor Locks/Bradford International, CT I have always had great impression about Hertz. Recently I have back on a travel schedule and will be traveling to Hartford for almost all of 2019. I went back to Hertz. Here is my experience over the last two weeks. I am a Gold member. Each time my name is not on the Board. My flight lands around midnight. I am usually with about 10 other passengers in the shuttle. All of them get down, look at the board and walk to their cars and go driving. My name is not on the board so I end up walking in the cold around 1 AM, into the office. Most of the time there is no attendant in the office. Last time I had to wait for at least 15 minutes in the office. Finally I ended up calling the 800 number for somebody to locate the onsite desk attendee. The desk attendant came back to her desk with an attitude. She didn't care that I was looking all over for her, instead when I told her that I have been waiting her response was, "You could not have been waiting that long". I thought Hertz was number one in customer service. I was shocked by her rude behaviour and didn't knew what to do say. When I asked her my name is not on the board consistently for the last two weeks, she gave me some reason without showing any interest in letting me know that I won't have to face that issue any more. I called Hertz today during the day time. They asked me to call the local office. I called the local office and she said, she will send a note to the Manager. I asked if I can have the Manager's number as I have called during the day time and the night time and have not been able to get hold of the manager. She said she will send a note to the manager and when I come in this Sunday midnight I can talk to the manager if he/she is there. She also told me that my name will be on the board this time. I am keeping my fingers crossed that - In future when I arrive around midnight my name will be on the board - I will be able to get hold of a manager as I really will like to know the manager as I will be traveling every week for the whole year. I am committed to Hertz but slightly disappointed by how it has turned out at this location for the last two weeks. I took a car in NYC, and went to CT. The car did not brake and I almost met with an accident. I immediately took the car here to exchange it with another car, and the agent on the counter, Swee from Penang Malaysia, (as per her badge) was more interested in arguing with me about the fuel that was not there in the brake-less car. I asked her to give me a half filled car so I can fill it up, but she INSISTED and ARGUED for 30 minutes that I take back the CAR WITH NO BRAKES and go back onto the fuel station and fill it up. Finally after calling up my rental location in NYC, she offered me an old Toyota Corolla without even power steering saying that it was the only car she had. I could see around 200 cars in their location and she gave me the worst of them all. This car that she gave me was three levels below what I booked. It is a COMPACT and my booking is always an INTERMEDIATE. Now for the best part: All this when I am a HERTZ GOLD member. How did I become one? I pay $60 dollars a year to become a gold member in order to entail better service... and this is what I get! read more
