Final resting spot since it is unsafe to drive

Rented a Premium Suv in April through Priceline. When we get there they dont have the size I rented so I get downgraded. Get a Ford Expedition and only drive it 242 miles before I start having engine problems. Call the roadside Number to let them know that we were having engine troubles with the vehicle. ( car shaking, rough idle, strong gas smell, thick white smoke from the exhaust, check engine light, and didnt want to start). The car was not safe to drive from NY to CT. They get me a tow to replace the vehicle the next morning. Get a Jeep Wagoneer and return it in CT back to Bradley. Talk to a manager and he refunds me the amount we paid for insurance because he felt bad. At that point I thought that was the end of this rental. Fastforward a couple of weeks and I get a notification from my credit card that they are charging me over 300 for the roadside to replace the car that failed because of the engine which is a mechanical failure and should be on them. There is no one to get intouch to dispute the charge and just get told a supervisor will call you back. That never happens. Now its july and they are putting me in collections because they wont honor their cars reliability. At least I finally have a number to call but putting me on the DNR list because your car broke down because of engine issues and charging me isnt right. Edit: to Kim from National. I have already tried that multiple times and they told me they would need a supervisor to get back in contact with me. I have not recieved phone calls back and this is from calling National, chatting with national, facebook messanger, twitter and the contact us form. I have all the receipts showing I should get a call from someone but still havent. And now Im getting an email about going on a DNR list. This has been ridiculous all because they dont honor their vehicles and pass on the charge to their customer because they dont want to pay for a vehicle that had engine issues. That isnt my fault the car developed engine issues. I only drove it 242 miles. Thats either poor mateniance or something was wrong with the car before going out and I just so happened to be the lucky customer it happened to. Just got off the phone with the number provided 18007747578 and it looks like National is trying to push their problem onto me saying the car was fine. If the car was fine I would of drove it home and not called roadside. The SUV WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE!!!! even the tow driver was like it looks like a blown headgasket. But to National a malfunctioning engine is perfectly fine. National is a shady company and I would recommend staying far away from them seeing as they dont stand behind their cars.

I've been traveling through BDL for about 15 years and have exclusively rented from National Car Rental (this equates to hundreds of rental days) This recently opened location replaces the remote site a few miles down the road, so I guess the value of repurposing the property at the former location justified building a new rental complex on the airport property. No more walking a few feet to the curb outside baggage claim and waiting on a shuttle bus then taking the pothole ridden bouncing ride to the offsite location, I took this ride so often I developed a wonderful rapport with the drivers who never seemed to change over all these years I am especially fond of "Olsen" the most friendly person you'll ever want to meet, the remote lot was filled with cars and within a minute or two I was on my way driving the car I picked and I skipped the counter using the Emerald Club Perks, I will sort of miss that. Fast forward to today - I walked and walked and walked to the new multimillion dollar onsite rental car facility, I admit this place is beautiful, shiny polished floors, giant picture window lined walkways they definitely spared no expense, but I'm not so sure it's an upgrade for the customer considering the selection of cars has dwindled to an all time low - I reserved the rental a few weeks in advance only to arrive and find only a few cars available - (3) electric vehicles (no they weren't Teslas) (1) minivan and (1) BMW X3 SUV which was locked up tight and the attendance told me there would be a additional $20 per day charge since it was a premium car - after tactfully explaining to him I wasn't taking the minivan or one of the electric cars nor would I be paying an up-charge for the Beamer he gladly provided the exceptional customer service I've come to expect from National Car Rental and fetched the keys and I was on my way without an additional fee. I do like that it's all indoors now since the walkways are completed so it's will be nice and toasty in the winter and air conditioned in the summer and no more tromping through the snow and battling the blustery wind. I've been with these guys since the 1980's so I'll adapt and continue to be a loyal customer...

This is very new in 2022. The biggest problem is it is a long walk from the terminal and it is NOT covered. The rental car companies are separated by different floors. We had Hertz/Budget/Thrifty on the 4 floor. New so very clean and industrial looking.

The experience was a good mini road trip, with no hassles or complexity from our rental. One-way car rentals are always quite a bit more expensive than a round trip, so was pleasantly surprised when finding a luxury car (Audi A4) rental from Enterprise being cheaper than an intermediate rental from competitors. It was for 4 days, with return happening at this location early morning before our flight. The Hartford airport has a modern rental car center, connected to the main terminal via an indoor land bridge. Returning was as simple as following the sign for Enterprise car return, leading us to Level 3 of the big parking garage. The attendant directed us where to park, actually scanned us in, and gave us a receipt right then and there. It was then an easy 5 minute walk to the terminal, taking a long skywalk to departures. The process maybe added 10 minutes to what it would have been if we had just been dropped off at the terminal. Addendum: There are a lot of tollways in Massachusetts, and I should have done a better job of figuring it out before we went...would have saved us time. Growing up in Illinois, I'm old enough to remember the workings of manual toll roads: planning out your route, determining how much cash you would need, and then either getting your loose change or changeable bills ready. During most times of the day, there would be lines so determining what queue was the quickest would add yet another driving decision to your trip. Then bulky transponders came out, allowing you to take the bypass (skipping all the cars in line) if you had a working one. After college, living in Wisconsin meant no tolls since the state has proudly never had them on any of their roads. Thus I didn't really keep track of tolling technology much except for the visits to Illinois for family, or the rare car rental in a toll-heavy state. My experience with rental cars and tolls is what really turned me off using a provided transponder. The concept of rental car agencies providing these were new, so wasn't much regulated then The rental car agencies used the same tact as they do for gas fill-up and collision insurance (liability insurance is already included as part of your rental): push it real hard to unsuspecting customers for convenience, but at very high (and profitable) prices. They would include a transponder in your car, and then offer unlimited tolls, for a daily charge often higher than the daily base rate of the rental itself. They would warn you if you didn't purchase it and either 1) use the transponder through a toll or 2) not pay a toll and thus have the toll agency send a bill to the rental car agency much later, they would fine you an amount much greater than what what you would have originally paid. This wasn't as big a deal when there were still manual toll booths to pay as you go...but with the disappearance of them (Massachusetts no longer has any manual booths...everything is electronic), it became a lot trickier. Thus we've chosen to just skip toll road altogether, but we found that this was a huge time suck...a lot more than anticipated. We were still able to do so on this trip, but added a lot of wasted time and stress. For our next car rental in heavy toll road areas, we will consider this (if renting from Enterprise...guessing its similar for other agencies as well...there just wasn't much documentation on-line before...it seems a lot better now): 1. Get a EZ-Pass transponder from a state that doesn't charge a rental fee (like VA or IL). Once we get the rental, tie the license plate to it, turn off the rental transponder. OR 2. Rent a transponder. Every day that it is used, there is a $3.95 fee, maximum of $19.75 per period i.e. 5 days max), plus the toll itself. OR 3. Some states (like Massachusetts) will just bill to the license plate without penalty. Enterprise will not charge a penalty, but instead just act as if you had used their rented transponder (i.e. $3.95 fee daily plus toll). #3 is the case for a lot of other states as well (CO, FL, TX, NC, GA, WA). Previously, I had conscientiously checked the state site to pay for the toll by license plate before they billed the car owner (rental agency) triggering that massive fine. Good to know that rental agencies have gotten rid of that tactic, either because it was better for the consumer or more likely because they were forced to by the individual states.

Delivering what is promised goes a far way with me when traveling. The line wasn't long and the two reps from National moved us all through rather quickly. I drove the car within CT to attend the family weekend at the Hotchkiss School. On October 18th, I received a receipt and a notification from my credit card that I was charged $150.9 for toll charges. I was very confused because I've been to Hotchkiss School many times and there are no tolls on the way from the airport. The person at the desk also confirmed when I was taking the car on Oct. 9th. And what toll charges add up to $150 in two days?! So I opened the receipt only to find that the tolls were all the way in Ohio. If any human being was even checking the record, they would see that I picked up and returned the car at the Hartford airport, and the mileage they recorded would not indicate that I drove all the way to Ohio from Connecticut, and back. But they didn't check. They didn't call me. They just charged my credit card.

My wife and I are frequent travellers, and we rent cars often. We have used a variety of different…read morecompanies. In June, for the first time, we used Advantage EZ Rent A Car at The Denver International airport. Note* We know that some companies train their employees to try to get extra sales from each customer transaction, so we are careful with what agents say and the offers and fine print that they provide. LORENZO, our agent, convinced us to take an upgrade which worked out fine. But he also pressured us into taking the E-Z Toll Pass with the rental ($9.99 USD/day x 9 days=$89.91 USD). We declined but he persisted that it would be very difficult to avoid the tolls which have very expensive penalties if you go through even once. He specifically said that besides the toll charge each time you go through there is a $25 penalty if you don't have the E-Z Toll Pass. Which, FYI, I just went onto the Colorado E 470 Toll Website to see if that was accurate, and it is not. It is a $5 late fee, not $25. The $25 is if you don't pay after several notices and months of tardiness. So that was lie #1. LORENZO said that "if you don't go through any tolls, the amount will be refunded." Based on that condition, we accepted and agreed on the rental. WE WENT THROUGH NO TOLLS; WE AVOIDED ALL TOLLS DURING THE TRIP. Upon returning, we awaited our rental invoice watching to see if that E-Z Toll charge would still be on the bill. Sure enough it was! Which we had a feeling it would be. So we phoned the 1-800 number on the invoice and spoke to a representative to file a complaint and ask for the refund. After explaining the situation, the agent was not able to authorize a refund. So I asked to speak to a supervisor or manager to resolve the issue. He escalated the complaint to a Denver manager (Natalie) to make a decision. He gave me a complaint number, and said the Denver manager would phone us back outside of 48 hours. We left us at that on Thursday evening. As of Monday evening, we had not yet received a call back (surprise surprise), so I called the 1-800 number again. The new agent informed me the Denver manager had made a decision on the complaint not to honour the refund. He didn't have a reason to the decision or why they hadn't returned the call. So, I explained the details again to him. He didn't seem to care. I asked him if he thought it was okay for Advantage employees to lie to their customers? He was quiet and didn't know what to say. I asked to speak to his supervisor. It took over 30 minutes, and the agent kept coming on saying she was busy but could I hold. Eventually, he even said the supervisor authorized a 20% refund. I said it was 100%, or I wasn't getting off the phone. I was transferred to a Sara G. (she wouldn't give us her last name), but her employee number is #30661. She was the top supervisor. But who knows if anything they told us is true. She was very hard to understand, the sound was quiet and muffled. She quickly went into a long 'fine print' rant saying the contract was already closed, and the Denver Manager had made the decision not to give a refund, and that she could only offer us a 50% refund on the charge. I declined. I again asked her if it was okay that the Denver agent Lorenzo straight up lied to us? She didn't address my question... We didn't use one toll, and in fact it was really easy to travel around Colorado and the Southwest without going through any tolls. This is a really short version of everything that was said, but in short an employee lied to us, the company didn't honour their commitment, and don't care that they are scamming customers. In the end, she gave us an ultimatum: take the 50% refund, or the call would be disconnected. How is that for customer service? We took the refund, but we will absolutely, 100%, NEVER USE Advantage Rental Car Ever Again. Customer retention is important in business, android word of mouth. No matter how big the company is.
