UPDATE:: I was unable to find a last minute rental car and couldn't fly out until this morning.... My aunt passed and I missed what precious moments I had left. Thank you Lori for taking that from me because you were power hungry. Holy smokes where do I even begin..... Lori, you're a psycho and need some customer service etiquette classes. We showed up and my wife was paying for the rental on her credit card and I was driving. We are married. In case you missed that important detail. I feel like this entire scenario was because we are lesbians. She said we were not allowed to use her credit card and me be the driver. We were told we had to add her as a driver and pay the extra fees. I had made sure before hand, that because we were married we weren't going to have that issue. So we called Hertz customer service line and she insisted yeah that was fine, go up to the front desk and they can fix it for us. Lori is a yeller ok guys, she starts yelling. Now she's mad and she is gonna go call her regional manager. Yes please do. So she comes back and says she wants to talk to the lady on the phone form hertz. So now she's yelling at the lady from hertz that she needs to send her something if the policy has changed. And the lady on the phone is politely explaining this is the policy and she has no availability to email it. I'm calm, my wife is panicking, there's another couple in the lobby going holy crap what's happening. So I'm like fine I took one of her business cards (that she had hidden under the desk mind you) so I'm like fine it's fine go ahead and I'll pay the extra fee and we can deal with it later. Now she's screaming at me that she is refusing service because I'm going to leave her a bad review. At this point I'm pleading with her because my aunt is in the hospital dying and I just want to please pay for it with all the extra fees and go. She also refused to give me the first and last name of her manager when I asked the security guard if he could get that information from her. She stormed outside furious to yell some more. Summary is that Hertz's rental car has trained their rental agents to over charge customer. I mean grossly over charge. Made a reservation to pick up vehicles at Portland Oregon airport and return it in Salem Oregon the next day. Reservation estimated at $131.75. Airport agent obviously are trained in sales and marketing to push extras on customers. I told the hertz's agent do not add anything that would increase cost estimate over the $131.75. When I returned vehicle at Salem Oregon office they gave me a bill showing a payment amount of $425.24. And according to the Salem rental agent there is nothing they could do about the gross over charge because it was made at the airport. WORST CAR RENTAL AROUND My husband and I was in a MVA last week, and the person that hit us, their insurance recommended that we use Hertz. We went in today to pick up our rental vehicle and the employees there were absolutely rude to us. They wouldn't accept a debit/credit card that we had, and wouldn't accept cash for the deposit for the incidental charges. We were at a loss on what to do, and instead of trying to help us and figure out another option, she threw up her arms and said, "well then I don't know what to tell you". Then got up and started whispering to the other employee. We were treated absolutely horrible and they wouldn't do anything for us, so we called our insurance claim specialist and explained to them what happened and asked to be transferred to Enterprise. They did that immediately. We then called Enterprise and let them know that their was a reservation made for us, but we were stranded at Hertz and knew they closed in 20 minutes. They told my husband, not to worry that someone would stay late, to make sure that we got our car rental. My family made an online reservations for last weekend. I will admit after we made the reservations and I read the Yelp reviews I was worried. On Thursday we got the car, there were no issues with picking it up. The car was GREAT, we were told we were getting a Chrysler 200 but instead we got a Hyundai Sonata, I was much happier getting that than the Chrysler. It was clean, and in great condition on the inside. It ran awesome...We would rent from here again. My rental car was not waiting for me or delivered to the dealership where my car was being repaired as I had prearranged with the insurance company handling my claim. Hertz sent a very kind driver to pick me up,. Once I arrived at the Hertz location paperwork and rental was quick. However, I am on week 4, waiting for a $52.52 deposit require when I picked up the vehicle. The refund request was submitted about 3 weeks after I returned the car and I was told it takes the corporate office 3-4 weeks to process a refund. This shouldn't take so long. read more

After my motor vehicle accident, I expected Hertz to hand me a mid size vehicle, but no and they handed me a little car which I didn't feel safe in and the brakes on the car was not very safe either. So, I called Hertz and explained the situation and exchanged the vehicle for a bigger car and brakes that works. Made a reservation online for 5pm pickup. Called at 445 and said we were on our way from north salem, she said no problem. Pulled in the driveway at 505 to two employees pulling out past me and the place completely shut down. Called customer service and asked about it and they said "our policy is you should arrive an hour before your rental time". What??? I asked why they accepted a rental at their closing time and was told it was probably not updated in the system. Took a day off work, updated the reservation and arrived 45 minutes early to pick up the car the next day. Tried to pay with cash, was told they didnt take cash. Tried to use my Chime debit card, told they dont take Chime. Have a Chime credit card that I used to make the reservation and they would not even accept that to pay for the rental! Ended up not being able to rent. When told them not to charge me for canceling they said they "couldn't guarantee that". So you can charge FEES to my Chime card but not the actual rental? This place sucks!!Check in was sketchy as the counter staff didn't do a walk around with me and failed to mention anything about the big ass side swipe dent by the back tire. The van smelled like someone chain smoked multiple packs of cigarettes and smoked a pound of weed in it. It was disgusting, dirty and looked like it wasn't washed or even vacuumed after the previous person used it. The counter staff told me she would go "take a whiff.' When she came back she said "it definitely smells like something but not cigarettes' and tried to convince me that the smell was the disinfectant they use to clean it. The counter staff told me it was on half a tank so that's what I needed to return it on or I would be charged. When I started it, it was on empty. I asked what she could do because I wasn't taking this van. She offered to put me in an older caravan. I asked for a refund and went across town and rented from Enterprise. When we went to drop off our car Christmas Eve at our contracted time, 3 p.m. there was no one around, closed early for the holiday. We deposited the keys in the box and left the car. The day after Christmas we found out we were charged two extra days for returning after "business hours" no negotiating or talking. Literally rented from hertz hundreds of times, like once a month maybe for a few years. I like the gold points. This is by far the worst location I have ever been to.! "Laury" checked me in and she is really rude and incompetent. First I reserved the car online, and when I got there she couldn't find my reservation. When she did find my reservation she said it was for the 2 days ago, I had to take at my phone show her the confirmation email and log into my hertz account to prove to this lady that I had a reservation. At which point she kinda laughed it off and said "oh you it said you made it 2 days ago". I was annoyed but I let it slide. But the real crazy part was when I returned the car, I was 3 days early returning it btw, I had Starbucks that morning and the cup was still in the cup holder along with a water bottle. She said in a the rudest tone " do you want my to charge you for it the garbage or do you want to clean it out." I have never ever been charged a cleaning fee before, I normally always leave a Starbucks cup or bottle or something. That's crazy, then she refused to let me clean it out I said fine I'll just keep it the full time to clean it out. She refused to give me the keys! I said I wanted her name and to speak to her manager. She said she was the manager, but eventually gave me her name. She was screaming at me that's always been the policy. She even said she can't clean it with the virus going around, and I was livid! So don't rent from here at all, apparently they rely on the previous renter to clean the vehicle for the next one. They bullied a 73 year old woman by one female staff member asking if that my mom would want her to get paid if she totaled her car. Her current insurance policy had her completely covered in a rental and I'm confident in stating that hertz knew that the insurance they are selling is unnecessary in 95% of the cases. Her 6 months premiums are close to that. She had the car for 2 weeks. Don't fall for their bulling and intimidation tactics. My car was totaled by a drunk driver a little over a week ago. I needed a vehicle ASAP as I was scheduled to start my new job that same week. There were multiple issues with the insurance claim, getting the tow truck out and etc...and by the time I got to Hertz, I was flustered and almost in tears. Michelle went above and beyond in getting me what I needed! She took the time to listen and assure me that everything would be okay. She even contacted the insurance company for me to make sure the claim was processed correctly after all they had initially placed the claims on me rather then true at fault party. She explained how the claims typically work and made sure I knew what to expect while they were having to determine the damages on my car. The most important part was that she actually cared and when she saw how confused and anxious I was after a really horrible accident, she immediately went to work to both validate my stress and get me the best option possible. Let me tell you about my new favorite friends, Lori (sp?), Michelle, and Barry. I am a nurse practitioner who sees Medicare patients in their homes. I was having difficulty driving to my patients' homes because of the heavy snow in late February. After explaining my problem to them they were able to get me into an all wheel drive vehicle. I know it was a super pain in the butt for them -- but they got it done. I also watched them interact with other customers-- customers that were rude, condescending, and often screaming and cursing. Lori, Michelle, and Barry handled the abuse far better than I would have, and were completely professional and kind. Hertz is lucky to have employees like these fine friends.
