Should be a zero. Our car broke down so we had it towed to the repair shop. My wife made a reservation with Hertz. We are gold members by the way. I took a 20.00 Uber ride to this location. After waiting for 20 minutes( the one employee was with a customer that long). He was rude when he asked my name. I gave it to him. He said when did you make the reservation, I answered 90 minutes ago. He said we DONT do same day reservations. I'm sorry, don't you work for Hertz, the company I rented from. He said I have no cars, I can't help you. I said are you serious, he said yup. He was very smug and uncaring. So I took another Uber to Enterprise where they had 4 employees and was waited on with a smile, and guess what. A car. I paid a little more but what choice did I have. Shame on you Hertz. Other than Angie, this location is also trash. We were sent to this location from the camelback location as our initial reservation was not available. When we arrived here, there again was a wait. The difference here was that there were 3 employees but only Angie was rushing around doing work. The two other employees were literally sitting in the front talking to other people about anything but work. You would think they would atleast be trying to figure out who is there for what? I mean it's not like they couldn't speak or ask questions. When it was our turn again, it was like the computer system couldn't or wouldn't transfer our reservation and Angie had to manually calculate our rental rate. Then to the suv.. again another vehicle that wasn't what we reserved. At this point we are out of options, we were just going to make it work. We ended up going on our trip with 6 people total and we were cramped in the GMC Acadia they rented to us. Not to mention but that car was dirty. Empty water bottles, chocolate melted in the back door handle, & a whole bath and body works candle under one of the seats. Angie offered to take the car to the car wash but again we had been at this Hertz for almost another hour and we needed to go. We were almost 3 hours behind schedule at this time. We didn't realize how much trash was in the car until we got the car home and started loading everyone up. Returning from our trip and coming to drop off the car was like another hurry up and wait. We walked in and all of the seats were full of people. We just wanted to drop off the car but we were told the drop box had been broken into so they no longer had it. Another employee had come out to inform other customers that they were out of cars and had no cars for anyone. You would think they would want us to quickly return ours so that they could rent that out but no we still sat and waited 40 more minutes. While waiting, we heard from another woman who told us that this location had gone as far as locking the doors and not notifying customers that day that they had no cars for any reservations. After a while Angie says if I don't mind an email receipt of drop off I could leave the keys with her. That's exactly what we did. Again it was just Angie doing all the work again. Yup- it's true, not a good location. I reserved a 7 passenger SUV for a one way trip from Goodyear, AZ to Raleigh, NC. When I got there they didn't have my vehicle but said they should have it soon.... They tried to give me a 5 passenger SUV instead, which I declined bc I actually needed the space. 3 HOURS later- I finally got the car I needed. In that time I watched at least 5 people come in and leave without their reserved cars. The 2 gentlemen who were working the counter were nice and apologetic for the situation. I can't get mad at them, they can't give you cars they don't have- but the system is broken here. They are overbooking like crazy by taking online reservations that don't have a car available and then it seems like there is no solution available to help the customer. It just doesn't make sense. In addition, the guy who finally gave me the car took off $100 from the bill and promised me a free tank of gas for my troubles. I was very grateful that he attempted to make things right for such a long wait- however, I turned the car in without filling the gas tank up (as instructed) and received a $200 fuel and service charge after I turned it in! So.... Pretty much, not a fan of what happened here and would recommend just going somewhere else to avoid the hassle and headache I (and apparently many others) experienced. read more

The 1 star ratings from everyone are warranted. The customer service here is poor. Long wait times, none of the employees care or take their work seriously. None of them even wear name tags so they're not easily identifiable. But at the end of the day I can't get mad at the employees, they only get away with what they're allowed to. It all reflects poorly on management, the person in charge should be fired. I only went here due to the insurance company giving us no other option. Spend your money elsewhere. Never been a fan of Hertz and have always tried to avoid using them if I could. Previous experiences left much to be desired. This time I was in a crunch and just had to have a car (reserved through Uber). Got there and the gentleman apologizes that the other staff was late/didn't come in so the cars were not clean; heard this twice before it was my turn so I knew what to expect.. He seemed stressed but was doing his best. Professional and working hard to take care of everyone there (three of us at opening). Ok. Can't be that bad and I need a car. Garbage in the door handle, popcorn between the seats, water bottle in the backseat pocket, and worst of all, the previous renters personal information in the center console. What is most bothersome is there was no offer of compensation or discount. And, no, I shouldn't have had to ask. Hertz missed a significant opportunity to win back my business. read more

Do Not Rent from Van Buren location!!!! I came to Az in Sept of 2023 and rented from Hertz at the Airport. I had the best experience. Naturally when we planned our trip to AZ March of 2024, I wanted to use them again. This time it was the absolute worse experience I have ever had! I wish I could give Tammy a -1 star rating. As I walked in I greeted her with Hello and got what's your name and I need your credit card. No smile, no hi, she was not friendly at all. In January I reserved a minivan, she told me they were all sold out. I said I have called you guys 6 times since I rented this vehicle and nobody answers the phone why is that? Her response I don't know. I gave her my debit card that I had reserved the car with, she tells me that's a debit card I can only do credit cards. I asked why do they let you reserve it with a debit card then? She just stared at me. I pulled out a credit card that I don't use, it still had the sticker to activate the card. She said that's declined, I told her there is no way, it must be bc I didn't activate it. She said I can't try it again for 24 hours. I said what am I supposed to do? I need a rental car, I used me debit card to reserve it. I don't have a bunch of credit cards. Again, she is just staring at me. I asked for her name she said Tammy. I said do you have a business card? She said no. I said what's your last name? She said I am not telling you. I said ok, I will just snap a picture of you. She then jumps out of her chair and runs to her door to lock me in or something. Then runs back to her desk and is yelling you can't leave until you delete that picture. I sure did leave. I do not recommend renting from this location. The office staff is rude (overweight black woman and older white guy), and the location has very poor customer service. I had an insurance rental through State Farm. On the day of the reservation, they did not have the rental available for me. They asked to come back later that day to pick up the rental. I came back and got the rental. The rental had no end date since I was waiting for my vehicle to be repaired. The body shop communicated with insurance to extend the rental, but Hertz declined to extend the rental since it had been too long. The dispatched a tow truck to pick up the vehicle even though State Farm agreed to pay. So embarrassing!! After multiple calls between me, Hertz, and State Farm, they finally extended the rental. Overall, I do not recommend this location. Save yourself the trouble. read more

Honestly worst experience I had. The pick went ok. But when I dropped it off they were busy and said they would email the receipt. I gave them the keys. The next day I still had not received my receipt. I went there in person and was told once it's closed they can't print out receipts and to call billing. After 20 tries trying to get a hold of someone, finally got someone to connect me to billing to be told that my reservation still wasn't closed by the location. I called the location asking for them to close my reservation and they said they closed it out. So I'm like either you're lieing or billing is lieing to me. Which is it? They put me on hold and then hung up on me. I called again and got someone else and they finally closed my reservation and sent me a receipt after wasting gas and time. And meanwhile in this time billing kept coming on the phone saying the location wasn't answering their phone when I got a hold of them twice and got hung up twice. And then this guy said well there's nothing I can do. And I asked for manager to report that store and they told me they don't have a manager. Like really. And then they hung up on me. This has been a headache since I had to turn it in. I would avoid them at all cost if you don't have to rent from them. Budget is like a block from here and I never had anything but great service from them. It was my boughie relative that didn't want to go through budget because it's ghetto but honestly hertz is the most ghetto place I had to deal with. The company overall is nothing but people trying their hardest not to help anyone. From the front desk to customer service. They had a chance to gain my business and lost it completely. Trey couldn't find a rental record # so he had me call customer service ( 45 minute wait ) for them to tell me that they were charging me for damage that was ALREADY THERE and the the sales rep took pictures of. They just just stuck a damage claim on - didn't call didn't do anything. It can't be because they are too busy they all hang out in the back room eating sandwiches while customers wait it be lobby and listen to them talk about people. Military folks BEWARE! I am updating my original review. Since writing that review, I have used this Hertz 3 or 4 more times solely due to convenience of location. Since then, the office seemsnto be upgraded a little more each time. All the furniture is new, desks new and the office is free of clutter. It looks far more professional, other than needing to be painted inside. I always get the same woman helping me (only woman that works there I believe) and she is awesome! Each time she is friendly, courteous and prompt. She is thorough with the vehiclen inspections, always offers me a possible discounted upgrade, and gets me on my way quickly. They always have my car and if not upgrade me for free. I will continue using them go forward. Hopefully she will be managing that place soon. read more

I had a great experience with this company. I've read the other reviews and I have to be honest, my experience didn't even come close to what others have posted. I didn't have to wait, the car was clean(2020 Kia), the staff was friendly and patient. By the time the paperwork was completed, my car was right in front and I was being handed the keys. The return was easy, quick and convenient. I'll use this location again. [P.S.A.] Always get the Insurace! Arizona sucks in the way of rocks being all over the roadways. A rock hit my windshield as soon as I pulled off the lot. I wasn't charged any extra or given any grief because I had the insurance. It's just a good practice to make habitual. read more

My husband rented a car he confirmed the check-in, and I went to pick it up an employee by the name of Tammy, which should be fired immediately she is the worst person ever. Would not let me pick up the car Because it was in my husband's name. I told her to switch the name to me and I have the same credit card in my name. She refused. She said your husband needs to be here.. Tammy absolutely is the rudest most unkind employee ever. My husband took off work. Got there at 5:40 on the website it said it closed at six Tammy said, she closes the doors at 5:30 no matter what. even if I'm already inside. My daughter started crying because she was going to miss her her dance competition. Tammy needs to be fired immediately. My husband and I have the same credit card one in his name and one in mine. She said she didn't care even if my husband it here in five minutes , mind you I already been there for one hour waiting 45 minutes to just get to the front of the line. AWFUL customer service. I had a reservation for noon on a Saturday. Came at 11:45am. The lobby is full. The employee, Daniel C., tells me he has no vehicle available for me and to contact the hertz location at the airport. Everyone in the lobby, including myself, is appalled. I sit and wait for him to finish with the other customers so I can talk to him. He walks back in at 12:15pm from helping the last customer and tells me they closed at noon and that I need to leave or he's going to call the police because I am keeping him from closing. I advised that I had a reservation and because this is their fault, they need to help me. He said there's nothing he can do and called the police because I refused to leave. Police came and asked me to leave in which I did without a fight. Before I left, I asked Daniel if he could have contacted the manager and he states "the manager is out on vacation" and that he couldn't contact them. So I asked if there was anyone else of higher authority who could have made these decisions to which he replied "I'm the one who makes the decisions for today". Never doing business here again. Well after paying for a Lyft ride to the Goodyear,AZ location, I was advised by Trey W. that not only did they NOT have a full sized car available but they had NO available cars on the lot. Are you kidding?? So where is the customer service to alert YOUR CUSTOMER, WHOS CREDIT CARD YOU ALREADY CHARGED that you don't have any cars available? Why didn't I get a call, text, email..anything to inform me that they were not able to fulfill my reservation?? So while standing there and asking him how we can resolve this, he offers me a $20 gift certificate for my next rental. What the hell is a gift certificate going to do to help me get a rental car that I've already paid for now? So bc Trey was unable to offer any further help, I THE CUSTOMER ended up calling the Glendale Hertz location to see if they had anything available. The manager, Brandon ended up finding a vehicle for me BUT of course CHARGED me an ADDITIONAL $83 for an upgraded vehicle, which I did not voluntarily want to take but had NO DAMN CHOICE. So when I returned the vehicle, I was told by Jeremy B (the Goodyear manager) that there was nothing he could do but give me a $50 gift certificate for my next rental?? Next rental?? Are you kidding me? So why wouldn't you just honor my original rate and give me my money back that I had to pay extra?? Customer service SUCKS for this company. Why the hell would I have faith to take a gift certificate for a next rental when I have ZERO desire to rent anything from this company. The sane holds true...you get what you pay for an a complete headache and ZERO concern is what you'll get with this company. I also made sure to get COMPLETE video of the inside and outside of the rental upon return. With a company not willing to stand for providing excellence customer service, I wasnt going to take a chance for a false claim to be made just to get more money. If you're reading this... -DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS PLACE- When I first picked up the rental everything was fine, skip to me getting pulled over on a California highway because the RENTAL TAGS WERE EXPIRED. Cop let me off with a warning and told me to try and fix the situation quickly as possible. Okay so I call customer service they told me to go into a hertz in the city I was staying in. As soon as I hang up the "Change Oil" light comes on. Are you freakin frackin kidding me! But wait, it gets better, I go to the local hertz and they tell me there's nothing they can do about the expired tags, I asked them if they could print out a copy of a renewal they said no because a manager wasn't on site, I asked them if they could switch out rentals because I didn't feel comfortable driving with expired tags and the Change Oil light on, again they said no because a manager wasn't on site. The employees then told me if I got pulled over and got a ticket that Hertz would pay it and I wouldn't receive anything against my driving record (you know what ). I had no choice but to keep the car. Got pulled over AGAIN on the way back home and the car was scheduled to be dropped off on a Sunday but the Hertz was closed. I come back the next morning when they open and the employee tells me that there's a drop box for rental keys (which I did not know and was not informed of). Also when I vacuumed out the car before returning I found molded donuts underneath the passenger seat. I will never rent from hertz again. Based on the experience I just had at this Hertz location, I can understand the reason for the bad reviews, and my experience mirrors those of others who have posted. I don't review on Yelp often, so when I do, it's significant. My daughter was in a car accident on Friday. Our insurance company set up everything through Hertz, and they called us. I could not take the call at the moment, so I called back an hour later. I spoke to a woman on the phone who was unfriendly, rushed, and clearly not pleased to be talking to me. In the brief conversation, however, I asked her if she had reserved a car for me, and when I could pick it up. She said "anytime Saturday between 8 and 12pm. I drove down to Hertz at 9am to pick up my reservation. The woman at the front desk proceeds to inform me NO cars are available--that they have NO clean cars. My first question to myself is, "don't you have any employees here who clean the cars?" Believe me...I will be asking that question, and many more, on Monday. I even offered to sign a waiver accepting the car in the current condition. I don't want a clean car--I just need a car after a car accident! Since "NO" seems to be the mantra of this company, you can guess what her response was. I'm sorry, but this is just unacceptable. What kind of a business do they have where they don't have one single car available to rent to customers on Saturday? Why in the world are they even open? Now, I work Monday. I don't have time to drive to Hertz to rent a car. That's why I reserved it for today. I will likely have to take time off work just to get this car. I sincerely hope not the manager--clearly this manager has issues he/she has no desire to resolve--but the district manager, or someone with authority to get this business back on track, reads these reviews. This place was awful. Unfriendly "service," depressing office. I selected a Standard SUV. I got the most strippy stripped car I have ever been in. A Chevy Equinox. Tight and cramped, small tinny radio, etc. No Bluetooth. In my past rentals at Enterprise I got nice comfortable SUVs so I thought Hertz would be the same. I have had it with this Hertz location, always an issue of shortage of cars or have to wait 45 minutes to get one cleaned... what is the point of having a reservation if they are NEVER prepared? Do I have to give them a star at all? Rent from anyone but these scammers! My $339 rental cost me almost $1800 because they closed the Van Buren street location to help out at the airport. When the moved my reservation to pick up in Peoria, they changed my rate from $42 a day to $209 and without telling me! When I contacted their billing department the answer I received from a supervisor was too bad, we have a contract! They couldn't care less that they screwed me. I went to pick the vehicle I payed online for and to my surprise they didn't have a the vehicle I reserved for... instead I was given a list of phone numbers to other Hertz locations so I can call myself and see if they have a vehicle that I can go pick up from... which meant I had to drive even further too. Some piece of advise for you all out there, if you choose to use Hertz make sure you call before you pick your rental, because you don't want to get dropped off and then you might have walk home.... and then I called back for my refund and they tell me it will take 7 days to provide my refund!!! read more

Hertz: Ok, but I don't have anything like that... Me: What do you mean? I've been getting confirmation emails from Hertz for almost 3 weeks reminding and confirming me of the upcoming reservation. Hertz: Yeah, well I'm not sure what you want me to do...the only thing I've got that is even close to that is a Tahoe, but it isn't as large. Me: That won't work. I've got very important business clients flying into Phoenix in 2.5 hours and I need that vehicle...specifically the seats and the cargo area in the back for luggage. Hertz: I get it, but remember that I'm not the one that emailed you, corporate did, and like I said, I don't have anything in the size you need at this location. Me: Could you please try contacting another location? Hertz: I could, but you are going to be calling the same telephone number I would, so it's probably better you just do it yourself. Had a one way reservation for an 1100 mile trip home. When I arrived for pickup, they told me that they were booked for the next week even though I had a reservation leaving me stranded with no way home. They mentioned that I should not have been able to book this even though I called ahead to confirm this reservation. Very poor customer service.
