We just moved back to Phoenix and needed to have our the oil changed in our Honda CR-V. We chose Sun Devil Auto because of their high Yelp ratings and good experiences at store near 7th Street and Bethany Home when we lived close by. My wife brought the car in Wednesday at 2PM. The oil was changed and my wife was Happy. Friday evening we were in the carpool lane heading into Phoenix when we heard a loud bang and continuous scraping noise. My gauges were fine, no smoke, no significant change in the ability to steer the car so I exited the freeway and pulled into the first safe place to stop. I called Sun Devil Auto and left a message (it was shortly after 6PM and they were closed). That phone call was not returned. We got a tow truck and paid for them to tow our vehicle to Sun Devil Auto. As of this writing, we haven't been reimbursed for the cost of the tow. I submitted the requested receipt on Saturday. Sun Devil called Saturday morning because our car was in their lot and they had our keys. I explained what happened. To their credit, there was no pushback and they agreed to do the repair. We were notified at 3:30 yesterday that the car was done. We were watching a movie at Harkins which didn't get out of until 30 minutes after they closed so I said we'd use our other set of keys to pick up the car and get the keys Monday. Bottom line - Exceptionally bad experience with the oil change, promising response (the jury is still out since we haven't been reimbursed for the tow) September 11- Update. When I picked up my keys on Monday Jacob promised to call when the towing reimbursement is approved. No phone call yet. read more

RIP OFF. Brought my 2017 jeep compass here seeking electrical diagnosis and repair (since they advertise that they specialize in it). The problem I have is very common issue with jeep compasses: parasitic electrical draw (electronics not turning off when they should). I told sun devil employees that I'm bringing it to them because I'm tired of replacing batteries and want to get to the root of the issue, and they assured me they would fix it. Lo and behold, they call me and tell me the battery is the issue, it's not holding the charge. I told them the battery is like that due to the parasitic draw and if they just replace the battery it's just going to kill another battery. Their response was "well we warranty our work so just bring it back". So here I am, battery is dead again (5th battery btw) and I had to get my car towed to sun devil this morning. They have had my car for several hours now and I called to ask them if they are going to file a claim with my warranty company so that I can have a rental car in order to be able to go to work. Louie or however you spell his name had an attitude and treated me like I was unreasonable to ask if they're going to keep it overnight that they file a claim today so that I can have transportation, seems reasonable to me ESPECIALLY since it's coming back a mere few months later for the same exact issue! And ESPECIALLY since I tried to tell them replacing the battery will not fix the issue. He said something along the lines the lines of "well we haven't looked at it yet and things take time" seems to me like 6 hours is plenty of time to verify that the battery is dead. His response was to pick my car if I don't want them to look at it. I repeatedly asked him if he could at least give me an estimate of when they would be able to file the claim and he just kept saying he didn't know maybe tomorrow. Horrible service and ethics. These people do shoddy work, get people to buy parts and get you in and out, and claim if the customer has any issues they will fix it under warranty. What they don't tell you is they will put your warranty work on the back burner while they do all the customer pay work first because they want the money in hand now, versus spending time to fix their mistakes. read more

Unpleasantly surprised :/ i had brought in my truck because it was having some pretty bad overheating issues. Keep in mind i have an extremely limited tool selection so i can't really lift the truck off the ground or inspect anything without totally and fully ripping apart the engine bay, which is why i had brought it to the shop for a diag in the first place. After dropping off the truck, i walked next door and waited outside the starbucks for about an hour, to see my truck enter the shop. after maybe 10-15 minutes, i had received a diagnosis through email about the "cracked thermostat housing" I Spent 200$ for a diagnosis on a "cracked thermostat housing" and was quoted almost $1000 to replace, something i can in no way, shape, or form afford at the moment. After spending about 4 hours in a parking lot replacing said thermostat housing, inspecting the old part, and verifying there was NO cracks or leaks in the old thermostat housing, i had called back to ask about why the diag was incorrect. the incorrect diagnosis wasn't really the issue, it was more of the "oh well, i'm just going off of what the tech said" attitude that threw me off. is it reall worth 200$ for the tech to barely glance over the engine bay and return it to me with a false diagnosis? I guess you win some and you lose some :/ read more

I Went in for alignment asked them to fix it because I was rubbing after. They then asked me to come in the next day. I dropped my truck off at 7am and it took 9 hours for them to "fix" it and all they did is cut off one of my pinch welds with a grinder and hammer the driver side and air down my tires so I don't rub anymore and without asking if that was okay?? Then proceeded to tell me the alignment was fixed. I would've appreciated a refund and them to say they couldn't fix it rather them cutting and hammering my truck. read more

brought my car here to replace my coolant bypass valve, overall my car was running perfect before I brought it here, no weird noises or anything, as soon as I got my car back after they had " fixed" the issue, my engine started making weird noises and I couldn't go over 45. I had pulled over and popped my hood, my engine cover was not clicked on, my hose was not connected to my air box. Got told that one of the parts fell out due to a " high rpm", they just didn't connect everything. not even a day later my check engine light came back on, took it to auto zone, it was the same code that they had " fixed" My engine is now making clanking noises. Instead of fixing it, they caused more issues than before. read more

Traveling through and needed an oil change. The reviews led me to Sun Devil. During the tire rotation, one of my tires had a cross threaded lug nut. That required the removal and replacement of both. No problem. It took them 20 minutes to do it. Parts were about $10 and labor was $140. Went in for $80 oil change and left $250 out of pocket. They were very nice while taking my money. Travelers beware...locals will be treated much better. read more

First off, I highly recommend the Sun Devil off of Litchfield Rd and I -10. I had such a wonderful experience with the service and courtesy of the personnel there. It was a very positive experience and I felt that my car was in good hands. My car repair wasn't the easiest or quickest fix, but the mechanics at Sun Devil were able to get my car back on the road. I was ready to call it quits on my car and just start looking for another one. I hadn't had any luck getting my car repaired properly at my previous visits to other mechanics, but I'm glad I tried this repair shop. I have been to a lot of mechanics over the past several years and have had quite a bit of work done on my car. I can honestly say I didn't have much trust in any mechanic up until this time. This business has now become my go to mechanic. One last thing, after I got my car back and had it running for a day, the manager called me to check on how the car was running!! Incredible! Scheduled a tire rotation, which was far overdue. Was able to get in within a few days which was a amazing for my peace of mind. Driving on hot asphalt everyday in the Arizona summers can be dangerous. Val was very welcoming and kept me updated throughout the service. The initial experience with this locations (13850 W Test Dr, Goodyear, AZ 85338) was really good. The team was very responsive, they diagnosed the issue quickly and kept me inform the entire time. The part needed for my vehicle was short nation wide and they told me it would take 45 days to come in. I was willing to work with them and told them I would pick up my vehicle until the part came in. Upon arrival, I waited in the lobby for 5 minutes until an older male with a goatee came to provide me my keys. As I walked out to my vehicle I tried to start it with remote start and the vehicle would not start. When I got into my vehicle all the electrical was flashing and the vehicle would not start. I brought the vehicle in for a heater core replacement and it was running fine minus the sweet smell from my A/C. I went back in and let them know that my vehicle wouldn't start and that was not the case when I dropped it off. They took a mobile battery jumping unit, my keys and started my vehicle. The mechanic brought it around and stated it's running now. I told them I am worried once I get home the vehicle wont start. I was told and I quote "we left your vehicles door open and your battery is old. You need to get a new battery". I informed them it is practically new and I the older guy with the goatee just stared at me as to hint there's nothing I can do. This location went from working hard to earn my business to placing me into a $272 deficit as I had to buy a new battery. A better response would be is "how can we make this right"? Needless to say I will not be returning. Be sure to do a video before leaving your vehicle as they will do the same to you. I will be elevating to the corporate office as well. read more

Went in since my brakes were squeaking and ended up with an incredible assessment of my entire vehicle. They let me know the things that could possibly need replacement soon throughout the visit but were incredibly honest and didn't try to charge me for any unnecessary things. My son was in an accident on the Friday before Super Bowl. The tow company took the car to Sun Devil for us at almost 10 p.m. When we called at 7:30 a.m. that Saturday morning, they'd already begun inspecting it. More work than we first though was needed, and Val called ready with the info of what part was needed, who they'd called to try and obtain it, and where they'd ultimately found one, how long it would take to get shipped, and an expected price and updated due date. Each call was friendly, and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of... in fact, they acted as though they knew me personally with each call. The car was ready an entire day before the estimated finish date, the facility was clean, crew was funny and this was one of the best mechanic experiences I've ever had.
