They are super nice here. I was a bit late on my return due to work, but the owner worked with me…read moreso that I was not charged for an extra day. The lot is small, but they gave me a super clean brand new Camry. It still had the new car smell! (I almost didn't want to return it, haha.) All around it was a pleasant experience. P.s. It's a bit hard to find. Look just past the Napa auto parts, just before you hit the 287 overpass. Also, there is an Avis and Payless here.

I reserved the car today for 2 days and it was Subaru Legacy and they did not have that car so offered me Hyundai Elantra which was ridiculously unfair with the amount I paid. So I declined it but before I asked for $20 discount on Elantra as it's just not close to Subaru Legacy and the dude inside declined my offer where as if I rent the Elantra I could get it for 103$ by default they would lose only $3 and they did not consider the time I have wasted in his counter. I wasted my beautiful 30 mins early in the morning risking the office hour. They are just crap, they try to take your money with not matching car. And when we ask for discount for less comparative car they shook their head.

The guy behind the desk was super friendly and efficient. I was checked out and had the keys to the brand new car in a matter of minutes. Solid rates and when I called to extend it one more day, it wasn't so bad fee wise. I'd definitely rent here again. Since it's one dude, just hope there won't be multiple people renting at the same time or there will be a back up. It's the 'burbs, so the chances of that are slim to none.

Pickup and drop off were straight forward. Vehicle selection was limited and their rates are barely tolerable for the suburban location. Minor concerns overall - the car worked fine and there were no billing issues.

We called the corporate 800 number and found out the agents at the Basking Ridge location had cancelled our reservation at 2pm without notifying us! Our suspicion is they wanted to go on vacation themselves and cancelled our 5pm pickup. It took 4 more hours, a trip to Newark airport and about $100 more to get a car that night. Terrible experience, completely unprofessional. Do not rent from here!

That said, Jeff Magner still seems to run it, and my five stars go directly to him. If you come here expecting a huge selection, that obviously is not going to happen. You need to understand that he is going to do his best with what he has access to. Plan ahead, be flexible with your timing, or expect that you might need to go somewhere else. Wherever it might be, I am still amazed that at least Avis still keeps dot-matrix printers alive. Maybe it is all rental companies, for all I know. I was in need of a large SUV for a week. Happened to get a Jeep Wagoneer. Not the cleanest car I have ever rented, but it worked. The value I felt was reasonable, and about 20 MPG with a 600-mile range impressed me. Okay, not enough to own one, but having one for the week made me happy. Happier still that I didn't need to go to EWR or somewhere else to get it.

Uber was 50% more. Lyft was about 20% less, but wouldn't allow for a pre-scheduled ride from EWR. I was not comfortable with a chance that there would be no one available for my 11:30pm pick-up. Al texted me the day before my travel day to confirm. I called him when I arrived. He told me where to meet the car/driver, in 5 minutes. 4 minutes later, the car pulled up. It was clean and comfortable. The driver was extremely pleasant. He allowed me to decide what music to listen to. It was a quiet ride out to the country. Never, ever again. I called for a cab in the wee hours of 3/12 for a ride to the hospital. I was in…read moretremendous pain and couldn't drive myself, but my illness didn't warrant an ambulance. The driver came flying down my street, doing about 45 (in a 25 zone) and screeched to a stop in front of my house. When I got in, I asked (quite nicely) if he could drive carefully as I was in pain. The driver immediately began yelling and cursing at me, saying "Your f*cking pain isn't my problem! Do you want me to stop here? You can get out and call a f*cking ambulance!" I kept my cool, but a few minutes later, while doing 65 down Route 202 (which is a 40 zone), he began texting. I asked (again, very politely) if he could please wait until we arrived at the destination before texting while driving. The driver totally flipped out and started screaming and cursing again. I didn't respond, instead I just closed my eyes and prayed, because at that point we were on 287 and he was doing 92 MPH; I was afraid for my life. When we arrived at the hospital, I paid him, sans tip, and he was FURIOUS. So much so that his screaming and cursing brought the security guard from the hospital outside to see what the problem was. The minute the driver spotted the officer, he took off like a bat out of hell. Of course, I called the Bernardsville Taxi & Limo office to complain. The response I received was completely unsympathetic and the woman I spoke to behaved as though this wasn't a very big deal. What a disgusting way to do business.
