My pregnant wife is traveling solo to Mobile this weekend to visit a seriously ill friend. I booked her a reservation in her name with my credit card. When she arrived they said the card needed to be in her name. Even though it's her account and money and we share the same last name. They were all too happy to strand her there in Mobile today despite taking our money for a reservation they won't give her. They wouldn't even accept her credit card in her maiden name and when I called they said there was nothing they could do. The amount of disrespect and lack of accountability by this company and location are mind boggling. Zero customer focus. Zero common sense. read more

No car upon arrival. Reserved a car for business travel Monday AM - told by front desk upon arrival that there were no cars because weekend people were late in returning vehicles. Understandable, but shouldn't be the customers problem. Had to wait an hour for a car and was offered $17 credit towards 3 day rental for the hassle - poor customer experience, poor customer service. Was charged $500 for a windshield that was already cracked, this location needs to be reported to the Better Business Bureau.

Car was not available as per my original reservation. Customer service changed pick up location. No car available at the second location. Pick up location was changed once again to a location over an hour away. After calling multiple times with no answer I arrived to the third and final location (MOB Airport). There was still no car available. I was put on wait list and didn't receive my rental car for 3 hours. In all, I traveled over 100 miles to get my car 6 hours after my original reservation. Highly dissatisfied is an understatement. Nobody seemed to care at all about the insane goose chase I was sent on. read more

Even making some allowances for a smaller airport, sadly have to say 1 star is being kind. Reservation, and confirmed 48 hours before arrival, and had to wait over an hour for a car. Listen here... you think you're getting a deal with Hertz, but you end up paying more with all of their additional fees and hidden charges. Though they are conveniently located at near LAX, I personally would book with any other rental car service. First of all, rates that you reserve online are not always honored when you check in and receive your car at the physical location. Their customer service reps will try to add on as many extra fees as they can by misleading you with inaccurate information. Whatever you do... DO NOT agree to let Hertz "fill up your tank at a discounted rate" when your car is returned. I was told the gas I USED would be refilled at a discount, but they actually charge you for a full tank of gas regardless of how much you used. I used barely a quarter tank driving locally and was charged $65. SO SHADY! You'll see this on your receipt as FPO... I called customer service to dispute this charge and they are so nonchalant, sounding like they hate their jobs and don't want to help you. I was completely brushed off. Even when I was directed to a manager... the Customer Service employees are probably sick of getting these calls because of so many people getting scammed into the FPO. Hertz needs better communication up front instead of having their reps act like desperate salespeople trying to hike up your bill any way possible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The worst! I have literally been calling Hertz since for the past hour to speak to one of the two females at the desk. I've made 15+ calls. A few of them were picked up and hung up. I also reached out to the 1-800 line, the nice representative attempted to call the Airport location 3 times as well. Not to mention, I had to wait an hour and half after my scheduled reservation just to get a vehicle for them to give my vehicle away. This is awful customer service. Unlike the larger cities where things are a bit more streamlined and the more modern technology is available, things move a bit slower here than usual. But you eventually get your car and are on your way away from the airport. Not the best, not the worst. read more

Conveniently located with a desk in the baggage claim area of the terminal at MOB, Hertz here is usually a quick in and out before luggage even starts rolling out the baggage belts. The staff is almost always friendly and polite. However, the evening staff has obviously not been trained well with regard to hertz gold membership level benefits. Guaranteed one class upgrade does not mean give the customer the car class they reserved and hope they don't realize it. Daytime, no problem, I reserve intermediate and almost always get full size or better. Evening or weekend arrivals, it's a crapshoot. Usually I DON'T get my upgrade and have to return to line to ask about it. The selection is fairly limited, there are many Dodge Avengers and Toyota Camry's rounding out the bulk of the full size fleet. Very few premium and above vehicles. If you're President's Circle and reserve full size expecting premium, be prepared to argue. There are certainly better Hertz operations out there, but sadly there are many worse. That being said, a middle of the road 3 stars it is. read more

This is a copy of my last email to Hertz regarding my experience in Mobile. Wow. I am writing to say THANK YOU to Hertz for making me so angry that I moved all my car rental business to National. Towing my rental car out of my hotel parking lot in the middle of the night due to a mistake at the Mobile airport Hertz location with my personal possessions inside was bad enough but what is worse is the responses I have received after bringing the issue to everyone's attention. The location Manager promised to get me reimbursed for the shoes I had to buy because all my work shoes were in the vehicle that was towed and Mr. Swalley was unable to find the car for 3 days. I haven't heard from anyone since I returned the replacement rental car. I reached out to his supervisor who just pushed it back on the location manager who caused the issue to start with. I reached out to Tim Parrish in Atlanta and received no response at all. I wrote Hertz customer service a letter and it took 2 weeks to get a response. The biggest issue with the mistake from Mobile is that I was driving in a car with no contract. If an accident had occurred I would not have been covered and would have been completely liable. I am considering contacting an attorney. I had a small accident years ago in a Hertz rental and even though I was under contract I still had to fight with Hertz to get it settled. I was harassed, threatened with law suits, etc.. So don't try to tell me that Hertz would have taken care of it if I had been in an accident. Many of my coworkers had already made the change to National and told me how great it was but I was a LOYAL Hertz customer. My past 5 rentals with National have been in Infinity, Buick, and Cadillacs for $39 a day. Getting a decent car from Hertz the past few years has been ridiculous. An upgrade to an Altima with 50,000 miles on it is not taking care of your customer. I wrote an email to the corporate account sales executive with National and she immediately upgraded me to Executive status so I didn't lose any perks by changing companies. I still want to be reimbursed for my shoes. I want personal apologies from executives. Do you seriously think Hertz has a chance at winning back my business??? I guess that's up to Hertz. Usually have great service with hertz so it was a shame this location had such rude workers. We worked with Melissa who was by herself so if it was crowded or rushed I would've better understood the rudeness or behavior but seeing as it was a pretty empty airport it really seemed to serve no purpose. Dropped my keys off around 630 AM flight that was at 730 got canceled right after my drop off, went back to wait for an extension on my rental. The lady working there arrived around 7 when I walked up she pointed at another couple and let them go before me since they were there first, this wasn't a problem. I said good morning she said it really loud to me twice because I guess she didn't hear me and started off pretty negative. While she was helping the other couple she closed out my keys on the car so I couldn't get my rental back, she told me to my face she did it when she got in before when I was standing right there and she wasn't even there yet. How does someone have a job who so casually lies to your face? I asked if I could extend on my Kia Soul or if I could change to a Sedan, she laughed and just told me a Kia Soul is a sedan. After that no more help was provided like a stonewall. I was pretty much being told to go screw myself. After taking a red eye flight to see my best friends funeral this was a great way to spend my time here in Alabama I hope I never have to deal with this hertz rental again in my life. We will never do business with Hertz again. They charge you $50 if you cancel your booking, even if it's WEEKS before you are supposed to pick up the car. And then you can't even cancel online. They make you call some call center in India to get it canceled. The person I talked to could barely speak English, she kept saying "how do I say this word in English" when trying to describe to me certain parts of our conversation. She was very nice but the language barrier was something to be addressed. Overall terrible company. I am a rewards member and gold status but no more. Hertz was a total failure. I flew into MOB last month for a friend's funeral, and I had made a reservation for a car online. My flight (which was the last of the day) was slightly delayed, and when we landed, there were no Hertz employees to be seen. Airport staff confirmed that they had gone home. It is mind-boggling to me that an airport location would not stay open until the last flight lands, especially when there's a reservation. I called the national line, was told I would get a call back that night, and didn't (of course). By contrast, I flew into VPS two weeks later for Christmas. We were delayed and did not land until 1 AM on Christmas Day. And all the rental car companies stayed open. I overheard one rental car employee saying that it would be her job if they didn't stay open - that poor sucker didn't work for Hertz at MOB. Those folks can leave any time they want, apparently. 0/10, would not attempt to give Hertz my money again. read more

Everytime I'm given a dirty car that smells like someone just smoked it in. Rental process same as any other rental company. Main reason for low review is that there are lots of hidden fees. My last rental I was charged an extra $100 because it was a one way rental. I was never told there would be that extra charge. The other thing to make sure is that the rental location is actually going to be open to accept the return. I had to drive an extra 15 miles and spend more on a cab because the location I booked to return the car was closed for the holiday. read more

Being a rewards member has its benefits. Normally when I arrive at an airport to get a rental car I'm looking for the Gold Board to find my name, but when arriving in the Big City of Mobile Alabama things are a lil different. Sometimes different can be bad but this ain't that kinda review. As I was waiting for my baggage I kept looking for a sign pointing the direction Gold Members should go to find their rental car. After about five minutes of looking,while standing in front of the baggage carousel, I walked over to the Hertz counter which was steps away from where I had been standing. I asked a very helpful and friendly lady behind the counter as to where Gold Members should go. She simply smiled and said, " right here at this desk." Apparently this airport is so small you just show your drivers license and they give your keys with a parking spot number. After retrieving my luggage from the carousel it was only a few steps to the parking spot right outside the sliding doors Returning the rental was also very easy and the staff was once again friendly and easy. Rented a car and promptly locked my keys in it. Went back to the rental desk to ask for help. That was a mistake. Rental lady was rude, patronizing, and completely useless. Didn't even suggest a number to the local roadside assistance company. After two hours standing in the Hertz parking lot we resolved the problem completely on our own while the employees literally stood around and watched. I rent a car every month for work. That car will never again be from Hertz. I will also be directing the department secretary to make the same switch for everyone in my department. read more

Most of the time i had to walk over to Avis or Enterprise to rent on the fly. Is it really that hard to have cars available for people who make reservations well in advance? Horrible management. This rental car company (and especially this location-Mobile Airport) was "ok" with me until the day before my rental car was due for return. Just over 24 hours before it was due to be returned, I requested to extend 1 additional day, due to a last minute change in my personal plans. I called the 800 # on my contract and asked if I could simply extend my rental for one additional day (I had had it for just under 1 week already). The customer service rep answered no. She said I couldn't extend without bringing the car back to the rental location for a "safety inspection". The car was a new vehicle with less than 7k miles on it so what on earth could it need to be inspected for??? At any rate, due to their unwillingness to assist me in a bind and causing me to drive all the way back to the airport a day before I needed to, I WONT be renting from HERTZ NEXT TIME.....whatever happened to customer service?! read more

I've been with Hertz many years and have had good service experiences. Recently, hertz has had problems providing the vehicle reserved by me. My reservations are made two to three weeks in advance or more, and yet the vehicle is unavailable when time to pick-up. If I reserve a 7 passenger vehicle its because i will have those many passengers. A auto seating four to five is unacceptable. this happened to me again three weeks ago. read more
