Hersh's is a must-visit for pizza in B-More! It beats the socks off any other Federal Hill pizza joint. The Kale & Pistachio is my current fave (shown in picture) - It has a little bit of a kick to it with the red pepper flakes, so be prepared, but *chef's kiss* this pizza is awesome! I used to live right down the road from this place and would order the Pesto Cauliflower appetizer at least once a week - I think this appetizer was removed from the menu, but I would be forever grateful to see it back. Start with Reservations!!! It seems no one mentioned needing them at this bougie pizza/Italian place. The service was commensurate with the overall prices (2 beers, 2 cocktails, dinner for 3, racked up to ~$155 with tip) The bartender brought my beer around the bar vice reaching past the bar-top diners (nice touch). We started off sharing the octopus appetizer which was delicious and tender-highly recommend!. We tried the pasta with clams which comes in small or large. The large portion isn't all that big so if you're hungry, go large. The caesar salad was good/typical. The polenta fries and another pasta entree rounded out our meal. Shared 2 ice cream based desserts-one plain, one with a liqueur. The reason for 4 stars vice 5, we went in without reservations for 3. Ok 40 min wait, we will wait...but there were 5 tables open in this tiny place. Another party of 2 came in after us without reservations, seated immediately. Watching who came & went with & without reservations, we could've been seated right away and they still would've seated all their customers with reservations. Wow from start to finish. The food was amazing. My husband and I took two friends to dinner to celebrate; the reservation process was easy and it's a nice small restaurant. The appetizers were flavorful and a good small portion. The wine was smooth and high quality. The Sauvignon Blanc was very light and paired well with their food. We actually were not completely full after the meal and tried one of their pizzas. None of us had any complaints about the food and one of our friend's is a chef and he was thoroughly impressed. I have been here a few times, most recently to get some drinks and snacks. Our good friend works there and she actually enjoys working there, the food is really freaking good, and the drinks are fun and tasty. It's a great spot for happy hour, dinner with friends, or even a date. Last weekend, I got a yummy tempranillo and we snacked on stephie's eggplant two ways and wood fired octopus. Ate here to grab a Saturday night dinner after seeing this spot listed on some "top pizza in Baltimore" list. Our experience was average at best. Made a reservation and requested outdoor seating. The hostess said she couldn't seat us outside despite us arriving early for our reservation and several open outdoor seats. She said outdoor was reserved for others who reserved outdoor seating but hadn't arrived yet...In my mind good customer service means prioritizing the guests who have a reservation, requested outdoor seating in that reservation, and arrived early. I didn't understand that but didn't make a fuss. We dined indoors. I didn't enjoy how dim the restaurant was which is part of why I preferred to eat outside. The food was mediocre. We ordered the the Spring Crostini to start which my fiancé really liked. Our entrees include the Pepperoni-oni and the Salsicca. We were disappointed by how floppy the pizza was - we had to roll it up like a taco to eat it. On a positive note, our server was kind and accommodating. He offered recommendations and took a delayed cocktail off the bill without me asking. The cocktail, the Clover Club, was delicious! (Shoutout to the bar tender)! After hearing so many great things about Hersh's, we finally went last night. We decided on the garlic and lemon clam pie and the Abruzzo (sausage and broccoli rabe). The waitress mentioned that the clam pie is what they're known for and that the Abruzzo was newer on the menu, but quickly becoming a popular choice, so we had high hopes but I have to say I was a bit disappointed. The creative flavor combinations sounded wonderful on the menu, but the taste itself fell a bit short. The clam pie was really salty and all I could taste was lemon. The flavor of clam was lost and there were just a few tiny pieces of rubbery clam on the pizza. I was surprised because the waitress mentioned the clam pie was Hersh's claim to fame. The center of the pizza was soggy and didn't hold up very well when we tried to pick it up. Maybe it's because we've also recently had some great pizza at Verde and Joe Benny's, but I don't think Hersh's would be at the top of my list for pizza in Baltimore. We were however fans of the uncut, Neapolitan style, dessert (rich chocolate pudding with hazelnuts), friendly service, and overall ambience of the place. We went to Hersh's on a Sunday evening with a reservation expecting it to be packed but there were plenty of empty tables. My honey and I started off with the polenta fries (yummy!) And ordered the clam pie based off of rave reviews as well as the clam pasta. Perhaps I have a less than nuanced palette but I didn't pick up on the clams in the pie and felt like I was eating a spicy cheese pizza. The brother-sister team that own this place are the nicest people. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable. You feel very welcome. -Amazing drinks. We always order specialty cocktails with our meal. They are unique, tasty, and beautifully presented. I love the copper mug my Moscow Mule came in. Also, I love drinking cocktails in champagne coupes, a vintage feel. -Great atmosphere. Not stuffy at all. Great decor. I love the details of the place, the mural, the decor of the bar. I love the tunes they play in the background. -Our favorite pizza in Baltimore! Neapolitan style pizza with quality ingredients at a great price point. The crust is delicious. Not impressed at all. I've eaten pizza for many years and in many different cities. This just doesn't match up. Not even to other pizzerias in Baltimore, like Isabella's, Viccino's, Bagby's, or, heck, even Pizza Boli's. I ordered a cheese pizza. Hard to mess that up. Me and my dear friend came here for happy hour one Thursday and we got there 10 minutes before 7. The waitress was awesome and still let us get happy hour deals which are $5 for a certain cocktail, wine, or two beers. I'm going to have to hand it to Hersh's Pizza & Drinks. They're likely the best pizza place in Baltimore and definitely my favorite thus far. I'm not sure where to start, but for a place known for pizza and drinks, they sure can make appetizers, small plates, salads, and pastas just as fantastic as the pizzas. I am so impressed... Definitely check out the prosciutto balls. We also had the wood-fired shrimp and calamari. I'm unable to describe this dish accurately with my limited vocabulary, but it's pretty darn good. In addition, I've never had a better chopped salad. I didn't even think that you could make chopped salad with brussell sprouts. It's an amazing concoction. Give the oxtail ragu pasta a shot. It's well prepared and you won't regret it. As for pizza, I tried the Kale & Pistachio and the Salsiccia, both fabulous and impressive. I never imaged that kale and pistachio could make for such great flavor and taste. I'd had overly dry pistachio toppings on pizza before, but this one was perfect. The kale wasn't overwhelming either. The Salsiccia was classic -- sausage and red peppers and greatness. Also, as an FYI, the cocktails and mixed drinks here are different and tasty. I would like to highlight the immaculate service we received. Our server was pleasant, friendly, and very attentive -- probably also the best service we've received at any restaurant in Baltimore. With Hersh's so close, it's a fave go-to for us for either take-out or to dine in! We especially love the warmer months, when we can eat on the patio with the dogs! This is a great place for pizza in Fed Hill, especially in the warm weather since they have an outside section. The service is very attentive. I had the Paloma cocktail, which was a great blend of grapefruit, basil, and red peppers for a little kick. My friend had the eggplant pizza, which had so much oil that it dripped off the slices when she ate (the main reason this place didn't get 5 stars). I got the clam pie, which was a bit too salty but came with a lot of clam and delicious crust, crispy and thin. I would definitely come back again, but it's not the best pizza I've had in Baltimore. One of the best happy hours in Baltimore. From 5-7 it's 5 dollar drink specials including two ten 10 ounce beers for 5 dollars, a red and a white wine, and a daily specialty cocktail. It's also somewhere we almost always bring out of town guests cause they have such a great menu, slightly more upscale than your average bar/restaurant in the area. Plenty of seating upstairs, at the bar, and outside! The servers/bartenders are always super friendly and this place just has an overall good vibe. Our favorites on the menu include the kale salad (I love the dressing), any of the pizzas, the Brussels sprouts, and we just had the seasonal pumpkin which was amazing! Definitely a must try, if you are considering going to hershs I promise you will not be disappointed! Hersh's is a gem of a neighborhood restaurant that is good enough to be on your list of Baltimore destination restaurants. And as if to prove the point, according to the menu, Hersh's will reimburse up to $10 of your Uber bill. There is a full bar downstairs with more formal seating upstairs. We found the wait staff to be attentive and helpful. I started with a Cucumber Collins (Gin/Cucumber/Simple Syrup/Suze), refreshing and perfectly tart with just the right amount of sweetness. My only complaint was that for $11, I sadly reached the bottom of my glass way too soon. For appetizers, we tried the Summer Squash Fritti with housemade ricotta, hazelnuts, red pepper flake and honey. Flavorful with some heat from the peppers but ultimately a little too sweet for my palate. The Wood Fired Shrimp and Crispy Polenta (with garlic, capers, pine nuts and sherry) was just right, the shrimp tender and smoky and the polenta a creamy counterpoint. The Caesar salad was serviceable and a good size. The Caprese salad (fried burrata and heirloom tomatoes) included a delicious creamy mozzarella. Definitely worth a try if you've never had burrata. I just wish the heirloom tomatoes were more substantial than the cherries that served as accompaniment. While there are more expensive entrées on the menu, the individual uncut wood-fired Neapolitan thin crust pizzas are the stars. My favorite was the Kale and Pistachio, which had just enough red pepper flake in the mix to make this white pizza interesting. My tablemates voted for the Fumo e Fuoco, with smoked mozzarella, fried eggplant and chili oil. We deferred the optional housemade lamb sausage. If none of the suggested pizzas fit your bill, there is a catalog of high-end toppings to create your own. All of us left Hersh's happy and satisfied at a price point that didn't break the bank. Our only regret was that we had no room for dessert. Similar restaurants include Birroteca, but Hersh's is a little more kid friendly and at a more reasonable decibel level. read more

I can't believe how much I like a pizza place! My friend insisted we come here (thanks, Sarah!) because of the great pizza. I'm so glad we did! The mushroom pizza is to die for, nice and earthy. The kale and pistachio pizza may sound like an odd combination, but it works; I just wish they had a bit more kale on it. All pizzas have a nice pleasant char on a light and chewy crust - the real deal kind of pizza one can only get from a brick oven. Wednesday night has half price bottles of wine, a deal my friend and I took full advantage of. The selection is good, not too long or short. The appetizers aren't bad either. Our waitress was super. Location/Parking: Located in the Federal Hill area, off the beaten path a bit. On weekdays there is usually a decent amount of street parking, outside Minnow (about the equivalent of a block away). On Fridays and Saturdays, they have free parking in The National Federation of the Blind parking garage (more info is on the Hersh's website). They have a large patio outside, but not much of a view off the patio besides the building across the street. Still, it's nice patio to sit and enjoy the warm weather. Food/Drink/Vegetarian options: We've eaten here a few times, and have tried different things each time - all of which have been pretty delicious. They have a seasonal menu with usually plenty of vegetarian appetizers, but only 1 or 2 vegetarian pizzas. In the summertime, we had this delicious tomato olive oil toast appetizer that was phenomenal (I can't remember what it was called). More recently, I had their Kale & pistachio pizza, which was also good. Pizza's are thin crust but are enough food that can be split by 2 people if you have an appetizer also. Like other reviewers have said, they don't cut their pizza when served, which is a little annoying, but part of the experience! Happy Hour/Specials: Awesome happy hour deals, which you can get at the bar or at their dinner tables/regular seating. My fiance particularly likes the 2 draft beers for $5. They also have a special cocktail on the happy hour menu everyday. Service: The pizzas can take a little while to come out, but the service is excellent. I always feel well taken care of. The ambiance is really nice, I went on a Friday night and it wasn't too loud or anything, and surprisingly, there were some seats available. I would probably recommend having a reservation though, the seating isn't the most. This is Definitely a good place for a date night or a small group of friends (4-5). The pizza itself: Neopolitan style is very thin, some people don't like it because it 'doesnt fill you up'. If you are hungry, one person could definitely finish an entire pizza themself. But needless to say, the taste of the margherita pizza and the pepper-oni-oni are really well balanced. The bottom is not overly charred, and the crust is to die for. My only real complaint is that the crust-to-body ratio of a single slice is less than ideal. There needs to be more pizza to this pizza. Alas, I would still recommend it to hardcore pizza fans. Hersh's is a great Federal Hill neighborhood joint. There pasta is ok, but nothing to write home about. They have some great appetizers, including meatballs. However Pizza is where they are the strongest. Holding true to neapolitan-style Pizza, the pies are on the smaller side and come uncut. They are tasty, however a little too damp in the middle. Also, you'll have better luck designing your own pizza instead of their predetermined combinations. Overall, the pizza is tasty, too wet and too pricey for what you get. read more

Self proclaimed life long customer : Hersh's is hands down my favorite restaurant in the city. I love the atmosphere, I love the food, and I love the friendly faces that greet me every time. I used to live close and would go almost weekly. Tonight I split some pizzas with some friends and I was not disappointed. I would like to point out they have done an especially excellent job during covid. They have opened their patio (not the indoors yet, which I respect as it protects us and their staff) and they made me feel incredibly safe with distanced tables and everyone wearing masks (above their noses). Definitely the best pizza we have had since moving to the area. The pasta was also very good. A bit pricy for the portion size, but I think it was home made, and it did taste great. Service was also excellent. One negative thing was that the beer list was a bit ho-hum (especially considering what you can get in the area) and the one that seemed most promising ended up being a bust. We got one calzone and meatballs and it was $35.00. Additionally, they charged us a 20% service fee when it was takeout. I would have tipped, but what "service" were they charging for? I asked the woman on the phone if the calzone was "large" for a calzone because I planned to share it with my husband. It was a 20.00 calzone! She said it was, enthusiastically. What we got was barely the size of a small sub. My husbands comment was that he could have eaten the whole meal himself and it would have been enough. I finally made my way over to Hersh's on Saturday evening...have only heard good things and I must add that I only have good things to say as well! The location, while a little off the beaten path, was nice and spacious and the decor and atmosphere was great. We got there a little early and there were several families with adorable little ones and as it got later, the customers shifted to more of an adult atmosphere- but i would definitely say good for families and single folk alike. I got the roasted baby pumpkin as an app...which seriously could have been my dinner. it was so ridiculously good. i would go back for that alone. i can't stop talking about it. then i got the seafood stew for my dinner- which was also very tasty and flavorful. i love that they offer up to $10 off your receipt for Uber rides as parking is definitely a challenge in that area- so that was a very cool and thoughtful bonus. i will most definitely be back...next time i'm actually going to have try their pizza too...haha! read more
