Onto August 2019 in scrapbook series is Hershey's Restaurant. I just reviewed a place in Vegas, and when I typed in Hershey's, the chocolatier superstore in Vegas. No, not that Hershey's. I mean the local restaurant right by the Washington Grove MARC station. On the northside of the MARC station is the Town of Washington Grove, a town of only about 500 people. On the southside is Hershey's in unincorporated Montgomery County and has a Gaithersburg mailing address. Very convenient restaurant for those taking MARC, but pretty off the beaten path driving over there. My girlfriend of that time & I visited along with a couple of her friends, who were performing open mic. It's a smaller place, but is comfortably cozy in there. I got their staple, which was the fried chicken platter. It was delicious. Acoustics were a bit on the noisier side and service was adequate. In summary, it's a place I'd consider a return to if over in this neck of the woods. read more

We landed at Hershey's thanks to their membership in an RV hospitality program. There really aren't many places in the immediate area of DC for RVers to park overnight, so this was a good plus. Warmly welcomed inside, we had a good seat that even had a power outlet so we were able to charge up our phones and laptop. Betsy took good care of us, refilling drinks and being appropriately attentive. The food was okay. Mrs. K. said that her salmon filet was too overdone and chewy while the potatoes tasted like packet. If they are handmade, it didn't show. I chose the Rachel sandwich which was wet with cole slaw and the marble rye was only very slightly toasted. Overall? Not great. As for the parking, it was level and it was my own fault for not believing the reviews. Many mention the train nearby and yes, Hershey's is right on the rail line. I was up with the 1:30 and the 3:45 train going through blowing its horn. Just not restful. Again, my fault. Toot, toot! This quaint little restaurant located between Shady Grove Road and Emory Grove Road is a hidden gem. The food is delicious, the service is fantastic and the ambience is welcoming. I had the fried chicken platter with mashed potatoes and hush puppies. The fried chicken is made to order, but well worth the 20 minute wait. The menu offer many choices from appetizers to entrees. The added pleasure was being able to hear and see the train run up and down the track. Do yourself a favor and visit this establishment. read more

Probably the worst service you could possibly get at a restaurant and the only thing good here is the chicken. If you are not a part of their "usuals" they will look at you like you've made a big mistake showing up in their territory and it's quite intimidating. I wish they made people feel more welcome and they also need some young people working here. I also get a really racist vibe just sitting there eating. We ordered 1# of steamed shrimp. They were large, hot, and delicious. I ordered the Meatloaf with sides of Hushpuppies and Green Beans. The meatloaf was good tasting, a very large portion covered in gravy but tasted a little bland. My wife really liked it. The portion was so big (size of a platter) that we split it and still took some home. The hushpuppies were fresh, nice corn meal, and hot. Very delicious. The beans were typical green beans; nothing spectacular but still tasty because I like green beans. Server was prompt and caught on to my comment, "NFL" when asked if I wanted a lime in my Carona. The ambience is family orientated with booths or tables. You can also sit at the bar to eat a meal with a drink. read more

Hershey's Restaurant it's like a Dive Bar and steroids when it comes to fried chicken. friendly staff and patrons make it a bonus to always go back the 45 minute wait for the fried chicken means you know it's cooked made to order and is always fresh. I have yet to get a bad order of chicken to date. The food brings you back to old-school cooking close Grandma's Sunday gathering. I love the apple slices, and even enjoy the Bands that play there sometimes. It's a hidden gem that doubles as a nice place to relax and chill. go for the jukebox stay for the karaoke occasionally listen to a great band overall get a cold beer relax talk to the locals. have been going to Hershey's for about 7 years. I even have referred my family and friends there. However, today, I ordered $54.95 worth of food. When I got home, an item (Cole slaw) wasn't in the bag(which I was charged) I called and spoke with the same lady I spoke with when I placed the order (Danielle). I told her an item wasn't in the bag. Initially she was apologetic. She asked what did I want to do. Whether I wanted to come back for the Cole slaw or take the loss. I responded due to the distance what I would like is for her to tell the kitchen staff to be more thorough. However, her response was "people make mistakes and hung up the phone". At no time was I disrespectful. She even mentioned similar things occurring the night before. I went back to get the Cole slaw and encountered Danielle. Again, she was dismissive and she stated "not liking working with customers like me" I then asked why because I'm black? She then stormed into the kitchen loudly verbally complaining about our interaction. I explained the situation to another waitress and asked if she would go to the kitchen to retrieve the Cole slaw because I didn't feel comfortable with Danielle retrieving my food in the kitchen after our encounter. Thank you to the waitress that graciously went in the kitchen for me. Although when she walked in the kitchen for my request, Danielle was heard yelling at the waitress stating she was going to call "Lisa". Due to this situation today, I may need to reconsider where I spend my money going forward. Respect doesn't cost a thing. read more

Just had a great meal with my parents at Hersheys. Dad had the meatloaf, which was moist and a very generous helping. Mom and I had the chicken tender salad. They're known for their chicken and we can see why. Loved the chicken tenders and the salad was very fresh. Hershey's has been open since 1893!! This place was recommended for us, but... I am not going to go back. The restaurant was extremely crowded, and is a seat yourself kinda place. It's not just crowded with people, but the tables are cluttered, aisleways blocked with equipment, and so on. We were lucky to find a table, but sat for a few minutes before we got drinks and menus. About 15 minutes later, the (very bad) band started, as people mounted the supposed dance floor. After another ten minutes, I just left -- nobody had been by to take my order. Naturally, someone slammed into me as I was forced to cross their make shift dance floor, too. too. The whole place feels desperately out of place in Montgomery County... between the ho-down, the televisions blasting faux news, and the atmosphere of the place, it really felt like something out of another part of the country. read more

I stopped by Hershey's with a group from Meetup. The service was fine, the food was excellent, and the music was definitely worthwhile. I had their chili and their smashed burger, both of which were better than I could've made it home. The server, Cassie, was excellent. This is a local institution. They serve typical bar food. Large portions reasonably priced. The fried chicken is well known in the area but I haven't had it. The decor is hole in the wall bar. I moved from Rockville in 21 went back to Oregon. I came back and first thing I wanna do was go to Hershey's. Loved their chicken love everything about that restaurant so last night I went and got chicken dinner and tenders for my grandson, the worst chicken I've had I was so disappointed so dry. I had an appointment to install my car alarm, and had to wait a couple of hours until the installation was done, so I went on a, search for a place to have lunch, and, serendipitiously, stumbled upon Hershey's. I got there a couple of minutes before they open-ended, but I was invited to wait in one of their outside tables. It gave me some time to look around the place. Hershey's is tucked away in a semi-industrial area of Gaithersburg, right across the railroad tracks. It has a lovely patio outside, which I am sure would be great in the summer months. The establishment is primarily a local watering hole with a well-stocked bar that also serves a limited but substantial menu. The dishes seem to be influenced by Southern cooking. There are multiple tables, which by the time I left were busy with patrons. Following what is usually my preference, I sat at the bar. I ordered one of their beers on tap, Kona, which was refreshing. I ordered one of their fried chicken platters, the two-piece white, which came with two sides, and mine were fried okra and coleslaw. There is a 25 minute wait whenever you order fried chicken, because it is fried "a la minute" (to order), and that meant receiving a wonderful plate of fried chicken that was shateringly crispy outside and juicy and moist on the inside. The chicken was well seasoned, and so where the crispy fried okra. The servings were generous! I want also mention the wonderful service I got at the bar, where I appreciated the conversation with the bartender. Hershey's was a little gem that deserves to be visited more than once! read more

The food is ok. The fried chicken with sides is very good. But it is the worst customer service ever. I tried to call for carry out to place a $100+ order, I was put on hold and they never came back to me. I hung up and called from a different number 3 times and they kept picking up the phone and hanging up. This has happened to me on multiple occasions when trying to order from here. When you pick up the food, they make you wait and wait and then have an attitude (yes, I always tip even on carry out). Hey guess what.. the food isn't THAT good. We have found a different place. We went back to Hershey's to experience their famous fried chicken. It was good, but made by simply deep frying. Very tasty, but...My favorite fried chicken is prepared the old fashioned way, lightly breaded and fried, not deep fried. I am no fan of the heavily heavily breaded chicken at Popeyes. I find it difficult to get at the chicken. Actually, our favorite store-bought chicken is Peruvian. Don Pollo and others make amazingly delicious roasted chicken. Anyway, no regrets, but I'd give Hershey's chicken only a solid B. read more

Hands down some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Light, crispy and well seasoned batter. Just how I like it. I ordered the 3 thighs with a side of Mac and Collards ($15). The Mac was ok. It's not your traditional homemade Mac and cheese. It was very one note with not a lot to it. The greens were my least favorite. They didn't have any flavor and again, weren't your traditional big leafy fresh collards. I'm always a little weary of finely chopped collards. We went in on a Friday evening when it was pretty busy and they were short staffed. I was ok with that because the fried chicken, which is what I went there for was AMAZING. My guess is the 3.5 star rating they have has a lot to do with the service. If you're ok with sacrificing the service for good food you should give it a try. Will def be back!! read more

Great band tonight. Love the Remasters! Excellent service from Amber. And really wonderful buffalo wings - meaty, juicy, crisp skin.

I think this was the first restaurant in which I actually walked out. There was a sign at the front entrance that says, ''Please wait to be seated." We stood at the entrance for quite some time. The bar was to the right of the entrance and the bartender did not say a single word to us. A server stood right in front of us counting some cash (probably a tip that was just left for her) and ignored us. She didn't even make eye contact. She came back a second time and walked right passed us to talk with people at a table. We kept waiting for someone to seat us but no one came. No one said, we'll be right with you, not even the bartender who was standing right next to me. This is not a way to run a business. Looking at other reviews, service is a huge issue at this establishment. I think if someone had just acknowledged us standing there waiting for a table, we would have stayed. read more

Hershey's is a hidden treasure (take Oakmont off Shady Grove, turn left, across from the post office) that we finally got around to trying last year and it's become a family favorite. Our go-to is the fried chicken of course. We tend to get the 12 piece with 2 sides and biscuits to split among 4 people. The mashed potatoes are my favorite side, flavorful and buttery, I could probably eat a whole side by myself haha Their gravy is also good. Green beans help it feel like a more well rounded meal, but we do usually also order fries for some of the family that prefer that as their form of potato haha There is plenty of surface lot parking. Inside is a cozy and fairly spacious dining area made up of booths, tables with chairs, and some splits. There is a stage for live music, and a bar. They also have covered outdoor seating. Everyone who works here is friendly :) We usually order carry-out, which can sometimes take a little while, but the food is always fresh and delicious! read more

Been a customer for over 30 years! Never have I ever not left a tip but today was tempted. As soon as order was taken, waitress proceeds to ask us to tip in cash because her paycheck is garnished. Situated in a quaint old train station by the tracks in Gaithersburg, this restaurant offers delicious fried chicken and burgers. We've eaten here many times and never felt it was taking too long for service or the food. My family loved this cozy restaurant with local vibes. Several regulars were eating when we were there for early dinner and it was nice hearing them greet one another. They have live music on Thurs night and karaoke. There's a digital jukebox to play music and I guess they do horse betting and keno but I have no idea about that. Maybe you can bet while you eat. Best fried chicken I have had!!!! It takes 25 min to cook, but the wait is well worth it! I wasted no time to devour my plate after this pics were taken. My husband was craving some "diner" food. He found Hershey's via Google. Pro's: -You can hear and possibly see (we were inside) a train passing by. The kids thought it was fun! -Tucked away in a Gaithersburg neighborhood. Went around 6pm and wasn't overly crowded -Private and open parking lot -Food was served warm but took over 20 minutes. We didn't order the chicken since the note did say it would take at least 25 minutes to cook up. -We mostly ordered burgers and a sandwich. All were pretty tasty and cooked to order -Lot's or large TV screens to catch a game on Con's: -No kid's menu. My daughter ordered the sliders appetizers and the portion was perfect. -Under staffed in the dining room and/or kitchen? The service was very slow and wasn't overly friendly. I could tell the server was trying to please everyone going back and forth but it was hard to keep up. -Little outdated.. seats had duct tape to hold them together I may give Hershey's another shot but probably won't go with the kids. They won't last 25 or more for the fried chicken to be made. X_X read more

Been twice so far. Once at the bar with Poindexter, another time in the seating area. Met a local who made me feel welcomed & told me to come back. Both times I feel like I was checked on frequently (reading the previous reviews I thought I was going to get horrible service). Nice selection of drinks, food served hot & fresh, love the chicken (be patient, you have to give them 20-25 mins but it's worth it) so I'll more than likely will be going back again. read more

This is such a hidden gem for some good comfort food! I decided to go with the famous fried chicken here -- I got the dark meat -- and it was delicious! I do think they could've cooked the chicken a little bit longer as some areas of the meat were pink, but otherwise this is definitely a step up from your local Popeyes. The skin was cooked and seasoned perfectly, so no complaints here. The order also came with 2 sides of your choosing. For about $13 I would say it was worth it. I was super full with my entree! You can even choose to get 1 piece chicken or 3 piece chicken and etc. I will be back to try the other items on the menu. Only giving this 4 stars because parking can be a nightmare :( I got lucky to even find a parking spot when I arrived around 5:45pm. June29, 2023-My husband and I drove 30 min to this restaurant because he remembered it being good 25 years ago. Well, it's gone down hill since then! We ordered on the phone cheeseburger sliders, coleslaw for me and meatloaf sandwich for my husband. To say it was bad is an understatement! We sat in the car to eat because we had our dog. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the sliders! They were burnt and over-cooked. Look like hockey pocks! The coleslaw had a medicinal taste. I am not picky! In fact, I was starving at noon since I hadn't eaten yet! I tried to eat one but couldn't stomach the other sliders. The meatloaf sandwich was dry as a boot but my husband was too hungry to return it! But I brought the cheeseburger sliders back though to get my money back. The server credit my credit card. However, I told her to talk to the cook about how he overcooked the burgers. She shouted to me as I was leaving that for her, the burgers looked fine! Are you kidding me??? Plus this place is filthy! You can see dirt and grime on the ceiling fans that were turned off! Go at your own risk! I'll never return!!! read more

I had seen a lot of people talking about Hershey's on the Support MoCo group so we decided to give it a try! We called to order the 8 piece carryout meal that includes two sides and rolls. We selected Mac & Cheese and Hot Sliced Apples. We were told 30 minutes for pick up. The fried chicken traveled well and was still hot, juicy and crispy after 20 minutes. The Mac & Cheese needed to be reheated but the Hot Sliced Apples were still warm. This meal cost $29. I also ordered a side of hush puppies for $3 which travelled well. Located near the Washington Grove Railroad Station. Seems like a watering hole for locals! Parking available behind the restaurant. read more

I went to Hershey's to hear Audio Fuel last night. They were AMAZING! Since I didn't order food, I can't really speak to that, but it looked like the huge crowd there was enjoying theirs. Maybe because of the crowd, or they need more help, but not sure why it took an hour--seriously--for my table mate to get her sandwich plate, and my ice cream sundae. Hmm. But judging from how much fun everyone seemed to be having, the ambiance must work for a lot of regulars. But Audio Fuel! They got the house rolling! High energy with no disappointment! read more
