I have been going to Heroes since there were two of them. They closed down the Palo Alto store long ago, leaving only this place. Alan, the owner is a pretty good guy, and the man knows his comics. His walls are covered with some of the best key issues around, from Silver to Current, he seems to keep his finger on the pulse of the game. He has a ton of back issues at great prices and has quite a few sales through the year that make that back stock even more delicious. He deals pretty fairly on the wall books as well. The place is a decent size, though the parking lot is very small. They offer a good selection of Comics, Gaming Cards and Sports Cards. You could do worse than this place for sure. Now to the downside. I've been in the store quite a few times and they have no "personality" guy. Every person I've seen behind the counter besides Alan are very standoffish. I can't say they aren't friendly, I've seen a regular or two go in and be talked to, but as a "new" face, i.e. someone who isn't a saver or doesn't come in on a weekly basis, I always feel like I'm a bother to them. Sorry buddy, you're a store clerk, this is what you get paid for. I'm not saying be my buddy, but it's nothing to be cordial. As I've said, as a collector, I don't discriminate on where I drop my dough, I'm always just looking for a good deal. I will go here again, just as I will every other place I've reviewed. I must admit, I'm a nerd. I love Wonder Woman, Star Wars, and Bender from Futurama. (I mean, seriously ~ who's the genius who came up with a robot fueled by alcohol?) Now I'm not necessarily a fan of comic books ... ahem, I mean, *graphic novels* to you comic nerds, but I will indulge in sneaking a peek at the artwork of Frank Miller from time to time. But what caught my eye was a used book on Giger's Alien, I had to get it! A great coffee table book that compliments my random collection of porn and miscellaneous bones. Fabulous. One thing that made them lose a star ~ you guys need more action figures and toys. That is what keeps me coming back, is to buy stupid toys that I don't want or need. I walked into Heroes for the first time today to check out the selection. They had a huge variations of back issues and brought me right back to the 1990's. However the best thing about the shop was the owner. There was an older gentleman selling his stash of old Comics. actual conversation Owner " How much are you looking to get from the comics? Customer " I don't have a clue, what about $800" Owner "I think your comics are worth more than $800, a fair price should be $1500" Customer "What?" Owner " You don't stay in business for 30+ years without being fair to the customer. So who do I make the check out to? " Wow! Refreshing and totally true story. read more

Heroes has a huge stock and massive selection. They also markup alternate covers before they sell out when other stores don't. They don't have any kind of frequent customer incentive for buying GN's and TPBs like other places do. There's no reason to get your pulls here. Heroes is a store fueled solely by its large, available stock. Problem is that these days, you can get your back issues and trades cheaper online. You go to a comic shop for the customer service and this place simply doesn't have it -- Heroes is in it for the money. If they get low on a comic, they'll mark it up, even if it's a new release. They run out of new stock surprisingly easily. If I'm in a pinch and need a trade that day and can't find it somewhere else, I usually rely on Heroes to have it. Otherwise, I stay away. read more

Most of the time they do not have anything i want ( richie rich or little dot ) but sometimes in the 1/2 off boxes i find a gem or two! I guess you could say Heroes is the gateway to Downtown Campbell, and you definitely get the classic Comic Book store vibe - cramped, a lot of selection, and easy to get distracted. I went in hoping to see what they had, as I need a new LCS (Local Comic Shop). I don't read most of the main line comics, but do like picking up TPBs, and they have a decent selection. First thing you'll notice is comics are everywhere, and on the wall are comics worth more than what you brought with you - original issues of The Walking Dead stand among Golden, Silver, and Modern classics. Rare Statues, Magic, and Sports cards stay behind their respective cases, and even more lie around the corner. The staff pretty much left me alone, but when I did have a question they were helpful. Of course they tried to get me to pick up more than I wanted to, but that's a comic book store for you. I was honestly impressed with their TPB selection, as they had a lot of older volumes that have been difficult to find in other markets. Their Magic card selection includes boosters of all the recent stuff, and even some not-recent (A pack of Urza's Legacy sat there for its $16.99 glory), and the cheap bins stay next to that. Picked through those for a while to grab some goodies for EDH/Commander decks or just get Rares that I need for my collection. Between rows and at ends are Hero Clix, action figures, and various other comic related goodies that you could easily walk past. They have current single issues and back issues, and if you need suggestions, don't hesitate to ask the staff. I will be returning, but either come in with an idea, or ask. read more

I have been shopping at Heroes for....gack...a long time. My 5 star rating is based on what I like in a store- Focus on Comics- Pull Service - Decent folks behind the counter...who DO NOT BUG ME WITH BS SUGGESTIONS. I have walked into to several Bay Area comic stores where the local person starts talking to me about how I should buy X. Or Y. Without even knowing who I am or asking what I like. The key here is that they are not trying to sell YOU something YOU would like...but something they need to sell. That pretty much keeps me out of the other stores without some form of Music device attached to my head so I do not have to listen to them. There are other stores that are bigger, but there are no other stores that are better....for me. If you know what you want, know what you are after, and don't require that every clerk chatter insipidly about stuff you really don't care about, give Heroes a try. read more

I am not an avid or well versed comic reader, but Batman is always cool to me. I'm from outta town and love comic stores.. the toys, the comics... It's a nice getaway for me. Anyhow, I came in for something to take on the plane and wanted a Batman/Joker one and done story. The store owner didn't laugh or act like a dick. He was super cool, made some great suggestions and I left with 3 great graphic novels. I love this store. I'll be back. read more

This was actually the first Comic Books store I've been to when I moved to Northern California. They have a neat collection and the employees are very friendly and nice. That's why I repeatedly go back here. I go there for the single cards but they don't really have a large selection to choose for. My biggest regret was not buying that one card I wanted. One of the best comic shops in the San Jose area for quite a while. The business changed hands many years ago. Long gone are the originals, Phil and Dan, but the shop has been taken over by a former customer, Alan. Alan definitely has a passion for things comic related and it shows. You can find golden age, silver age, modern comics, and original artwork along with sports cards and toys. While small, this shop has a ton of stuff packed in to it and if you don't see it, just ask. Alan has good connections and can probably find it for you. My only knock on this place would be the same as any other comic shop, if your looking to sell comics try Ebay or Craigslist to get closer to full value. A couple of years ago I brought in decent copies of the Silver Surfers first couple of appearances (Fantastic Four 48-49) and was reluctantly offered about $100. I said no thanks and threw them on Craigslist, two days later I had $400 which was much closer to what I was looking for. read more

I seem to remember that, back in the day, this shop was called "Little Shop of Heroes" but now it's just "Heroes". If you're into the comic world, then this is the place to check out. A Campbell staple for years, they stock everything a comic book connoisseur could need, from individual comics and underground comics to special editions and graphic novels. If they don't have it, they'll try and get it - and if they can't get it, it probably doesn't existt! Hereos also buys anything comic/toy related, but only if they need it. You can always call the friendly staff to see if what you have is something they're interested in buying. Location is great! Another of my all time favorite places to go as a kid. It was peaceful and serene. It was great to go to on Free Comicbook Day. It was a world of its own and stopping going was in itself tough. Though, it deserves for people to go there and find their own experience. Comic shops like this, they deserve love. They're the only standing places that are cool and fun and they are in themselves a great place to find interesting and unique things whether it's Pokémon Cards or any type of Cards or Comics or Posters, they're the best places to just go on a weekend and look for something fantastic to read. read more

For me, back issues are where it's at. I'll usually order about 50-100+ back issues a month from mycomicshop.com (working hard to buy back my childhood!). In the weeks in-between orders, I'll make a few trips to Heroes and sort through their back issues after work. While I wish they wouldn't stuff the bins so tightly, what I am able to easily dig into; I'll come across some good $1 finds from time to time. Mostly Bronze/Copper Age 80's stuff, but I have managed to scrounge an occasional VF-FN Silver Age book for a buck. The majority will run you at least $5. I can't say much about the staff since I haven't really gotten to know them yet, although they seem friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with anyone who comes in asking questions. The store is easy to shop. Good layout. Lots of fairly priced reference comics on the walls. I would give the place a full five stars if they could just get those wonderful back issues better organized and out of those ratty, old boxes. Otherwise, this is one of the better comic book stores I've frequented in my 30 years as a collector. read more

This was my favorite spot to find Garbage Pail Kids, back issues of Cracked Magazine, and back issues of Mad Magazine. It's been years since i've been here though, so i'm not too sure if they still have boxes and boxes of all that stuff. This has got to be the store every comic book (or is that "graphic novel") nerd dreams about. I'm not such a big fan of comics, but even I was impressed with the scope and variety. Wall to wall comics, graphic novels, baseball cards, and all the attendant paraphernalia you could dream up. True it's a bit "hole in the wall" and dark inside, but guaranteed if you're into superheroes...you won't leave here empty-handed. And, there's a great donut shop right across the parking lot so you can get your snack on while you read the latest and greatest. read more

Lots of choices. Lots of comics, cards, figures and other what nots in the same genre here. They even have a used section, and plenty of discount sections available. A bit crowded with stock on the floors and not absolutely sure about how the place is organized, but it makes you wander a bit more and that is always good for looking at comics. Found lots of things I like and fortunately kept my compulsions to a minimum. All in all I recommend this place for all your comic needs. read more

I'm not sure it gets any better or cooler than this shop when it comes to comics. The store is well lit, clean, organized and filled to the top with awesome comics, toys, statues, and cards. Prices on back issues are marked high but check the site for good coupons. Higher priced back issues are usually half off. The staff is friendly too. Enjoy the original comic art, posters, and the huge amount of material in the store: from golden age to recent releases. This shop makes comics cool and awesome - like they should be!! This is a wonderful store if you are interested in purchasing a variety of comic books. I haven't seen a store in the area with as much Gold/Silver/Bronze age comics and it's a treat for a comic book fan to look at. It reminds me of the comic shop in San Diego I go to (So. Cal. Comics) so I get a bit nostalgic when looking through their glass cases. Customer service is awesome and they are very attentive to their customers. It's a bit on the small side but, they really can pack the shop up with all kinds of things to purchase. :) I'll gladly come back when I'm in the area! read more

Holy Snikeys Batman!!! This place is loaded with comics. They have comics from almost every age and then some. I have to say that what I do like when I come here, which isn't often, is their back issues of "Love and Rockets". They are decently priced and are mostly of the older 80s issues that are classics. They have a large back issue section, although they are a bit pricey compared to some of the other stores. They are lacking in the Transformer and loose/ non-super hero collectors toys, which is why I do not frequent them very much. If you just need to find that one issue of Teen Titans or Vampirella, then this is the place for you. They also have lots and lots of super hero bust for sell to make your mantle look nice and pretty. read more

The selection here ain't bad. It's kinda interesting, as I go there lookign for something and they never have it but they have everything I'm not looking for. The indy comic selection ain't bad, but it's not anywhere near big enough for my taste. They have a very good selection of collections and...shudder...graphic novels. Sorry, I just hate that term. The bigger problem is that every time I go, I feel like I'm invisible. I went not too long ago looking for a Cerebus collection and I couldn't find it. So I went to ask at the front, and there was no one there. I found the guy after a couple of minutes, but it was weird. On the plus side, they've got a great, packed layout. They make use of every inch of space and pack it with comic, card and collectible goodness. I love that. They also have pretty good prices. I'd say they were slightly more expensive than Illusive. read more

This shop has a lot of great back issues to choose from and have a lot of Vintage comics to choose from. Every Part of the store seems as if a lot of thought was put into it. And the store has a really cool layout. Sadly, The condition of the comics ive gotten from this place arent that great and The service is usually kind of a downer here. Only 1 or 2 of the guys actually seem to care about the customers. The parking lot is very limited and narrow but it's located in a nice area! Also,They would consistently forget to add Books that you're subscribed to and by the time they realize it, they're out of those issues and you're left with nothing and are forced to scramble to other shops. The Prices for their Variants are way too overpriced. If this place plans on keeping loyal customers they have to improve their service and their pricing. Overall, this is not the worst shop and has huge potential to be the Top store due to their setup inside. I love Heroes' store layout and their Stock in Vintage comics. They just need to work on maintaining more customer interaction and ordering enough comics for everybody come Wednesday. read more

Love the location. And the convenience. Staff is helpful when you address them or have a question. Otherwise you will just get a nod or a "How Ya Doin" when you walk through door. I have noticed that staff is very good with kids, whether it be about their nice kids selection of books, or about rather small sports card collection. Either way, they seem knowledgable. If you already know what you are looking for on a Wednesday, it's easy to navigate. New book rack is immediately to your right, passed counter. Great selection of busts and figurines. No curtained adult section, which is not a knock or compliment, but I'm sure some parents might find refreshing. The one missing star is due to over-priced, yet very extensive back issues. That and the cluster-f**** trade and hard cover section. I really like this place, but after researching weekly pull service, which I was seriously considering, will only be a pop-in /impulse stop for me. As a subscriber at a much further away shop, I'm used to my pulls bagged and boarded and new Previews...no charge. Along with my %discount. Good store. Will see me maybe one Wednesday a month. Overrated store. There are cards that I can buy on amazon for $40 - $50 are $100 - $175 . So if you like Pokémon don't come here. I wanted to get a pack to support them (it was 6$) and there was no good cards. The reason this is a two star is other people like the comics so yeah. However the have intresting Pokémon toys so that's why this is a 2 stars. And this place is super dark. I feel like i'm in abandoned garage. read more

Went here for the first time on Free Comic Book Day 2009. For a relatively small shop, they have an impressive selection of comics, graphic novels, and collectibles. I was especially impressed by their single-issue back stock. The staff was friendly and the store had some great deals (though that may have been because of FCBD). I LOVE HEROES. This shop is AWESOME! I came in here after breakfast down the street and was not disappointed my inner comic geek came out and was all over this place. This is definitely a legit comic spot. Everything's well organized, there is good flow throughout the store and a good collection...definitely the amount of stuff you can find in here is AWESOME. The guy here (I forgot his name) was really nice, friendly and easy to talk to. While we were shopping we never felt rushed or anything like that. If you are into comics check this spot out and you will not be sorry....did I mention SALE ITEMS? No?? Well there are a ton of them so even if your comic budget is tight Heroes will have your back. read more

Great store with terrible customer service. If u hav questions your better off not asking the people who work there. I've asked simple questions and have gotten ridiculous answers. Not sure if they don't know what they're talking about or if they just don't care to give a real answer. You'll get better customer service at Comcast. And thats saying a lot .
