I stopped by on a Tuesday evening, and it wasn't overly busy. I meandered through the aisles and was blown away by the genres/styles/options. Whether you love mystery or memoirs or illustrated novels or fiction, there is a book for you at Recycle Bookstore. What's more, since they sell used books, there are so many options at an extremely affordable price. I was able to pick up a Spanish vocabulary book for less than $5! The service was unremarkable, which is exactly what I want from a bookstore. I was able to slowly check out all the books without any rush/pressure. Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2025 August 12, 2025 After dinner at Blue Line Pizza we stopped by Recycle Bookstore. Upon entering I was greeted by the friendly clerks behind the counter. The has an extensive display of pins and stickers that featured spots that used to be in business in San Jose like Orchard Supply Hardware etc. I inquired with the staff behind the counter where I could find the Edward Gorey bag I saw in the window. They pointed and said it was on the right hand side of the shop. After picking up my Edward Gorey bag other bags, I asked a clerk where I might find any Edward Gorey books. They seemed uncertain and after ten minutes of dealing with two staff it ended with - we don't have any inventory of what books are here in stock. It felt like a wild goose chase. I ended up buying a few Edward Gorey canvass bags, other canvass book bags, Ina Garten's newest book, a book on Chinese fairy tales. My total was around $130. Used Apple Pay and was on my way. I love a good book store ... and this one has a cat! It's great the mix of old, used, and new options ... every possible genre. I literally spend hours when I come here browsing and never leave empty handed. I endo appreciate the honest explanation from the folks here on the trade in values of books I'm bringing to them to sell and trade (much better than the other location - where I first took some of my books and where, thankfully, I did not accept the offer which was nearly four times lower than this location gave me for trade in.) We love a bookstore that closes until 9 pm! I was wandering around downtown Campbell and found this hidden gem! I've been to the downtown San Jose location, and this location has such a wide selection of books. I was amazed by the breadth of literature they had. They had so much Asian authors that I've been looking for. It's a great value to support bookstores like these that give used books to find new owners. I ended up getting three books for myself! Love the selection! I typically only go to the other location in the Alameda but today I was in the area so I decided to come here. They have fair prices and a lot of variety. I got a bunch of old-school Nancy Drew and Hardy boys books which I have been looking for and cannot find anywhere. I literally paid $35 for probably like 8 to 9 books. The staff was really nice and everything was super clean and organized. They seemed to have a lot more business than the other location. I'm very happy and these will be going into my collection. I take back what I said!! This store is a headache and a half. The buy backs on this store have gotten continually AWFUL throughout the years. I recently went with three large boxes of books, and got $4 cash back for everything. There was probably 50 - 70 books total. I remember going here as a kid, the charm, the cat, and now they don't even have a cat, and their service has gotten awful. Same goes for their Almaden location, too. I LOVE THIS BOOKSTORE! Why would i order a book online when i could visit the recycle bookstore. There is an amazingly large selection of books here, including a wide variety of children's books, non fiction, and manga. There is also an LGBT section which I adore. The staff here is very friendly, whenever I bring books to sell back I get amazing service and it's so fast. The buyer will tell you that you can browse around the store as they assess your books. They call your name when they're done and tell you what they selected and how much they will offer you. I came in today, Christmas Eve, in the afternoon. The selection of books was great and very relevant from ages kid to adult. The range was great too - fantasy to serious and popular psychology books. However, I had a very negative experience with the service. When I walked in, all of the staff (a few girls and a guy) were standing there and looking at me, but none of them said anything to me. Then, when I walking around, they watched me and said negative things about me. They said I walked in really fast, that I look like I play Dungeons and Dragons and they said "gross", and continued to say mean things very loudly even as I went to other parts of the store. They said they didn't feel secure. I noticed they were very nice and welcomed other customers. It was a very bizarre atmosphere. read more

It was my first time visiting since the pandemic and it's nice to see that the store is still up and going! As a casual reader, it's always easy for me to find a new book that I like here. They have a large selection of books (shelves are filled top to bottom!) and the employees are nice to talk to and very helpful. Since all the books are recycled, many of them are discounted too! Even though I mostly read on my kindle, I still find treasures at this place and keep coming back. I've sold and bought books here; as a seller, I really appreciate how quickly the staff sorts through a bag of books. Moreover, I really appreciate how the staff is transparent. Specifically, the staff will give you back books that they won't take. I had gone to another bookstore that would take everything, but say that they could only add some of the books to their inventory (the rest were "donated"). This store has relaxed and inclusive vibes. The cats are a delight to see, but so is the "blind date with a book" section. I also really admired how there were several children's anti-racist books on display. Also, the staff is good about enforcing limited capacity in the store. I have been to this bookstore before and loved it, but my experience with the staff this time was very unpleasant. Whoever was working at 12pm on 2/6 was rude as soon as we walked in. They did not greet us, just told us to go to the other side of the counter to sell books. Then as we were waiting in line, they were nice to other customers, telling them to have a wonderful day and once we made our purchase, they just said, "you're good".
