I got to the area early. I had class scheduled at CYCLEBAR. Instead of sitting in my car doing mindless scrolling, I decided to walk around for some fresh air. Every time I see a bookstore, I must stop by. Every time I stop into a bookstore, I must purchase a book. A cozy and intimate bookstore to satisfy your literacy minds whether it'd be for your children, a gift, or for yourself. I originally wanted to search for a book titled, "Embrace Your Edge" by Hang Thi Yen Black. She was a guest speaker who spoke at my company a 2-3 weeks ago, but my phone did not have good reception, so I started browsing what I think would be a good read instead. The ladies behind the counter were really sweet and genuine in our exchanges. They both explained to me that if I bring the book back w/in 4 months in good condition, I'll receive $9 credit towards a new purchase. I thanked them for letting me know, but I'm building my personal library and will never sell or donate my books. I have almost 100 books to my name, and I cannot wait to buy more, read more. Bookasaurus is also a cute name especially for a dinosaur lover like me.

Harry Potter in English & Spanish (:

I walked in after completing my purchase next door at Leigh's. I was greeted and began to browse the books and toys. The store had a lot of books, educational toys, LEGO's, and unique gift ideas. I asked the young lady if they had any Spanish book and she let me know the selection was small since they didn't sell much. She showed me a Spanish edition Harry Potter book and I held on to it. She showed me the Harry Potter books in English and also showed me the section of Harry Potter themed items. The young lady let me know that they sold Usborne which is not sold at large retailers. They had a large selection of Usborne books. I really liked the wipe clean workbooks. I purchased both the English and Spanish Harry Potter book (the first one). Overall happy with my purchase and the array of items. My kiddo loved the store and all the LEGOs. I definitely enjoyed browsing the store and will keep it in mind when browsing for a new book or a gift for the kiddos.

GIFTS: I was so shocked at all the gift options in this place! And I almost didn't go in because it's located INSIDE the community senior center. But I found the things they sell remind me of what you'd find at Cranberry Hill, nice quality, only this shop is smaller and the prices are lower. Gifts for ME too...lol. Given the pricing and cute stuff, I might have (definitely did) buy a few things for myself too. EASY TO FIND: Anyway, it was easy to find, they had a sign. You just turn right as soon as when you walk in the double doors and they're right there. The center is that huge lot by the duck park, and the senior center is at the far back of the lot. PRICES: They really have a wide range of pricing because of their selection so I feel I can easily find something price appropriate for the person I'm buying for. They had a ton of small things under $5 (even $2 and $3 dollar things) like little mats for under your coffee mugs, but higher end like the amazing colorful hand knit scarf I bought...for myself. It was hand knit with that extra thin yarn...a million stitches and only $45?! Bring on fall! CARDS?! What? YES and so cheap (good riddance Hallmark). Tons of cards like those high end Papyrus ones at the store that are more like a part of the gift, only these started at only $3.50 a card. Crazy. HAND-CRAFTED: Sometimes I think "church bizarre" when I hear that, but they said everything in there was hand made and it looked so professional to me. SELECTION: They fit a lot of stuff in that little shop. Candles, paper art, purses/bags, jewelry and lots of beaded things, knit things, towels, even children's stuff, and a ton of hand sewn gifts like placement settings, and cup holders, etc. Even some of the jewelry (Pom-Pom key chains and seed bead stuff) were teen friendly, along with some of the fairytale paper art boxes. TWO CRAFT FAIRS: They were advertising a craft fair and said they do two a year, in May and November and that it's supposed to be huge with tons more stuff, so I'll be heading back for that. MEN: Honestly, this seems is a great place to men to find gifts for the various ladies in their lives.

This place is awesome! Everything is handmade and good quality. I especially like the stuff with…read morethe LX label inside.

This store is a rip off and they make their own rules to fit them not the customer! They are not in business for the customer they're in business for themselves! After visiting dozens across the state, we know a great bookstore when we see one. Leigh's Favorite Books is hands down one of the best we've ever been to. The store has a fantastic selection of books and is very well organized, which makes browsing easy and enjoyable. I always love seeing staff picks in bookstores, and this place had plenty across a great variety of genres. They also offer a book buyback program for store credit, which is a fantastic option for readers who prefer to keep their shelves from overflowing. They also carry used books at discounted prices. I personally love used books because they have character, and the bindings are already nicely broken in, which makes them even easier to read. Leigh's Favorite Books also earns our unofficial award for the best non-book inventory of any bookstore in California. Most shops carry the usual boring gift-store items, but this place had a genuinely fun and unique selection. They had such a fun assortment of random items that we wanted to purchase just about everything they had lol. The service from Becky was exceptional. When I mentioned that I read across many genres and especially enjoy biographies, she personally recommended one and even wrote the title down on a sticky note for me. When we talked about our road trips visiting bookstores, she also suggested a trip to Vermont, where you can get a bookstore passport stamped along the way. She was incredibly friendly and great to talk with. We can't wait to come back and pick up more books.

The books are neatly organized with thoughtful staff notes and recommendations. They have a program which for their book store members, you can return certain books in 3 months as a "buy back". The "buy back" % is clearly listed on the book cover, a few of the hot items I see that they are buying back for 50%! The staff member is very friendly and helpful. She helped answer questions, looking for items and she was on top of her job. They have events like meet the author once or twice a month. Overall, this is a great local gem and I'm happy that I stumbled upon it!

It's probably the best bet to get a gift that is cute and unique but you want it to lean more towards being western and not too kawaii and anime. Think of gifting a punny keychain or cute Jellycat versus a Chiikawa plushie or anime acrylic if that makes sense. Meaning that it's probably easier and maybe more acceptable to get a slightly more normie a gift here than it is elsewhere. As you can see, I'm learning what it's like to touch grass and re-integrate into human society. There's a good number of plushies, Jellycat and unique ones like a pink fairy armadillo mole one, tote bags and socks, nice range of jewelry, lots of California themed goods if you're looking for souvenirs that aren't mega generic, and they have a lot of other items as well. As with the quality and high regard some of these items have (Jellycats are NOT cheap), it can be a bit pricier, so make sure that you shop around and check prices elsewhere and that you actually truly care about the person you're getting stuff for and it's not a forced obligation one (family member you're ugh with or coworker Secret Santa that you barely know). Maybe a couple cute things I had my eye on, but it wasn't really for me (speaks volumes about me), but I can see how a store like this works in a pinch if you're gift shopping.

But it was invisible to me. Until today, anyway. I am so happy I finally found it. Because Gourmet Works is much more than a store that sells candy and chocolate. In fact, as the name would suggest, it's more of a Gourmet food store and Gift Shop than a Chocolate Shop. But it's also a hella cool chocolate shop and that's the main reason I will be sure to return. Right when you walk in the door you are surrounded by an astonishingly large variety of items that would make the perfect gift for a loved one, or for yourself. Because, I ain't gonna lie, there were at least a dozen items that I considered buying for myself. I thought to myself, you know, I do so much for me, and it seems I rarely properly thank myself for my devoted patronage and self care. If you are interested in high quality gourmet gifts, Gourmet Works is definitely the place to go! They carry so many products you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Gourmet Salts, Dried Herbs, Pasta Sauces, Dried Pasta, Curry Sauces, Masala Simmer Sauce, Special Preserves and Jams. An impressive, well-curated selection. Then, at the back of the store you find the kind of Chocolate display case that dreams are made of. Oh my Lord! Just the Truffle side alone would be enough to melt anyone's heart. But the other side, with the astonishing variety of hand dipped chocolates is where I lost it. I saw the Almond Bark and stopped dead in my tracks. I stared at that Almond Bark. The Almond Bark stared back at me. We were locked into that stare down for what seemed like an eternity. I was sure neither of us would ever give in. But then I blinked. Somehow I became aware that the wonderful woman behind the counter was asking me if she could help me. As I regained my senses, suddenly I felt so embarrassed. How long had I been staring at that Almond Bark? How many times had she tried to get my attention? I had no idea. I tried to play it off like there was nothing going on between me and that Almond Bark. I casually inquired about some Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt on a totally different shelf in the display case. Then, of course, I had to buy a couple of those Chocolate Covered Carmels with Sea Salt, to cover up the whole situation with me and the Almond Bark. I purchased a couple ordinary, un-chocolate covered Caramels with Sea Salt too. The woman behind the counter couldn't have been more gracious. She didn't let on that she knew exactly what was happening and I wasn't fooling anyone with the whole Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt charade. So, my thanks to Gourmet Works, and the gracious woman behind the counter, Padmaja (her family owns Gourmet Works). It was such a pleasure to shop at your wonderful store! I decided to go online, place an order for delivery, & pray for the best. This particular Sunnyvale location was assigned for my purchase - I assume it is one of the closest locations to the delivery address. The ordering process was straight forward and I went ahead with the Birthday Berry Fruit Arrangement. To my surprise, there was no delivery fee for my purchase. Since I was already paying a decent amount, that little "discount" was appreciated. Fast forward, that "no charge" ended up being an additional fee. Lmao!!! Not sure why it was listed as free delivery during the time of ordering and then a charge was tacked on AFTER but whatever. I just needed my purchase to be presentable and delivered in a timely manner. Since I had the time, I quickly did a Yelp search on this EA location. The reviews are pretty terrible to say the least and I began to stress a bit. The email confirmation sent gives you an area to "track your order" which would be great IF it was accurate and actually worked. The hours for the store's business hour stated 9am and by noon, my order was still only listed as "RECEIVED BY STORE". I gave it some more time and by 1pm, the status never changed and I immediately gave them a call. The gentleman who picked up had a very thick Filipino?? accent. He was courteous but it just took a bit of time to get the info I was requesting for. I ended the call with him confirming that the order was received and that the order was in fact "made". They were awaiting for the delivery. Fast forward: Hours passed and yet there was still no delivery. I checked the status of the order again to see that it had changed to "out for delivery" yet nothing seemed to be happening. I'm kind of frustrated at this point and was mentally preparing myself of wasted money when I get a text from my girl regarding the surprise she received!! Whoo Hoo!! The delivery made it to her home safely and according to her, the staff did a good job. I am over the moon and would recommend this particular Edible Arrangements. Don't let the reviews overly stress you out. While I can't speak for previous customers, I am pretty satisfied. 4/5 stars because of the tracking system doesn't work. It is currently 8:48pm and the tracking still states "out for delivery". Lmao!!! It also deducted some points in my eyes regarding the delivery fee. If the business was upfront about the cost, I wouldn't have batted an eye but to list that the delivery was complimentary and then revoke that... meh. At the end of the day, I can say I had a good experience with this Sunnyvale location. I'd easily place another order through them and this time I'll expect additional charges.
