Loved sharing space with the beautiful crystals, especially the large amethyst! I loved everything about it, in particular Julie's drumming and singing. This is literally my favorite store in the Bay Area! The moment you step in, it feels calm, peaceful, and full of good energy. Trust me, the vibes are heavenly. You'll often meet spiritual and like-minded people here. And yes--they actually have a small indoor waterfall where you can sit and meditate. It's beautiful. The staff will pray for you if you write it on a piece of paper. As a Nepalese person, it makes me really happy to find spiritual Nepali items here. The statues are affordable, and I've picked up some lovely crystals and bracelets. Since it's in downtown, some crystal pieces can feel a bit pricey--but overall, the selection is worth it. They have huge crystals. They have paintings at the end of the shop. You can also find sale items near the shelves there. I've bought so much from them over time--oracle cards, books, journals, incense sticks, candles, crystal jewelry--you name it. I've never regretted a single purchase. Such a charming little shop, packed with thoughtfully curated spiritual-themed treasures--from adorable trinkets to unique stationery. I ended up treating myself to a stunning journal with gold-edged pages that shimmer when it's closed. Truly one of the prettiest journals I've owned--and I've been writing in it every day since. This bookstore is different and more thematic. This revolves around spirituality and religion. Not only that they sell books here, but also items that relate to those themes. They even play spiritual songs. The fresh air and its smell even adds a touch this store. It was so hot outside and being inside this store cools off everything. If you're religious or into spirituality, then you'd probably would find good things in this store. I thought this place was kind of gimmicky every time I passed by it. But I finally went inside for the first time in forever and I thought this place was not bad. It was surprisingly zen in there with the nice waterfall in the back and the smell of incense lingering. You can leave anything on a note next to the waterfall (in a box) and the staff will pray for you. This shop focuses a lot on healing, prayer, meditation, tarot etc. It is a spiritual place regardless of any religious backgrounds. I saw a lot of books but also a lot of things like incense sticks, mandalas, tarot boxes, etc. It's a unique store and I don't really see too many places like this! read more

This is my favorite store in the Peninsula! Every time I visit, it's such a treat. Their crystal collection is glorious. They have a great selection of books, both new and gently used. I have found so many great books for around $5 to add to my library. I absolutely love how the staff has carefully curated a unique collection of goods. From their artesian created jewelry and clothing, to their smudge bundles, resins, incense, and aromatherapy offerings, and let's not forget the spiritual artifacts and wide array of trinkets. My favorite thing has to be the beautiful waterfall alter at the back of the store. It's the perfect place to sit, recharge and take in all the positive energy that is in this beautiful sacred space. I love this place bc they have a tone of spiritual books, tarot cards, crystals, and many other spiritual products you may not find anywhere else in the Bay Area. I drive from Oakland to this place bc I like the selection of products they have unlike any other stores near where I live. They also have a good selection of vintage spiritual books which are always fun. I've bought some good spiritual vintage food books and also beautiful tarot cards here that I use for my clients. I love looking and shopping here. Spiritual books ranging from Buddhism and yoga to aliens and magical workings. They also have a section with $5 used books that people have donated, where you never know what you will find. Crystals, singing bowls, tarot cards, stickers, altar statuary, this is where you can get these kinds of things and the store is just so approachable and welcoming to the curious person. I have also had a couple of sessions with different readers from there (but not in the store). Both were pretty good. The bookstore has nice calming vibes and I particularly enjoy stopping by whenever I'm in town to check out the rocks and jewelry. Even as someone not particularly interested in the spiritual aspects of the things in the store, it is still a wonderful and pleasant establishment. Definitely give it a visit! More than a bookstore, this is a tourist destination for anyone who visits me. It's located in the charming downtown of Mountain View. The store has everything to do with spirituality, religion, yoga, meditation and all the forms of energy that drive peace and understanding in the world. They have new and used books and a variety of arts, crafts, crystals, CD's, clothing, greeting cards and so forth. They are a distributor of my favorite music label, Putumayo. If you're into learning, check out their website as experts teach every week. Readings are also currently being done in the back of the store and online. I was extremely disappointed with the staff at this store. I was waiting with my one-and-a-half-year-old babygirl in front of the store. My baby was excitedly looking at the animals through the window and tapped on the window glass just twice. It happened suddenly, so I hold her to stop her right away. However, a staff member came out and yelled at us, 'Hey, guys!!' while giving me a fierce glare as I was trying to calm my baby down. She put her arm on her hip and yelled at us in an intimidating manner. Initially, I was surprised and couldn't understand what was happening. Did she get so angry over something trivial involving a baby? I've never met people who yelled at a 1 year old baby. If you have a child, you would know how tough it is to calm the baby down when they're being fussy. I'm deeply disappointed, and I've decided never to return to this shop. It's disheartening that the staff at a local shop lacks understanding when it comes to customers with kids. Other than this store, a staff in this neighborhood are always very friendly and nice to my baby. read more

Oh man, how many years have I been coming and recommending this place. At first, it sometimes freaks my friends out. They think I am leading them into a burning cauldron or something. Lol- Most of the time, there are always good vibes from this place. There is something here for everyone. So if you are a Christian or Jew there is a small sections for you, Buddhist one for you as well. If you are a Pagan, Neopagan or Wiccan there is an area for you. Not to be trendy/snobby/holier than thou or anything, but I first went here around 2008' maybe, since then it's like in 3 year intervals and I like the variety of lineages they display. From books, to cd's, to decks of cards with affirmations/non tarot for me. NO.BIG.DEAL. I lived closer to Mountain View at the time and hung out with Teachers, Techies and Business owners, YES ALL 20's at the time, people that I absolutely love and literally have to look up to because my height. LOL. At first it was a little browsing and after sitting by the fountain and meditating and trying to just let my mind create a royal peppermint forest for Enso to play in. Last time I brought a play date and she loved it so much she picked up some books for her job. To plan. YAS. I loved how they used to sell a blue flexible/styrofoam stress puck and neat little deck of cards for creativity and inspiration. They do have community events, no disrespect they seem a bit too esoteric for me to be a part of. Again this store caters to all kinds of folks and they do a wonderful job to have something for everyone. I definitely recommend the store. Love this wellness bookstore! Most of the books are about holistic physical and mental health. There are chimes, relaxing crystal bowls, candles, aromatherapy products, etc. While I wandered around looking at all the crystals and essential oils, all I could get myself to buy was a 2023 planner (yeah super-practical but I need to be organized for wellness). What I noticed when I visited her on that Mountain View day trip was that East and West Bookshop isn't just a bookstore or a shop, it's one of the centers of the community. Never have I been to a place that introduces such a variety of beliefs, practices, and supplies. As someone who picked up their first Greek mythology book in elementary school (for me, this means long before Percy Jackson was a thing), and has carried an interest of different mythologies and cultural stories since? This was just a treasure trove! And this isn't just figurative. They also sell supplies for things like crystal/stone healing, tarot cards, a number of incenses, statues, and figurines. Won't lie, though. The one drawback is that some of their products tend to be a bit campy and over-the-top (see: ornate dragon or Egyptian pantheon incense stick holder, the Native American with feathered warbonnet and a howling wolf statue). Mostly, it's a lot of spiritual and self-help stuff. There's a single neutral gender restroom in the back, just ask for the key in the front. They'll totally hold your items for you as you shop or go to the restroom. Different kinds of classes are also held back there, also ask at the front. Additionally, you can find and post flyers and posters up along the wall across the bathroom advertising a service, an event, or just something you need to communicate (ex. we saw some missing kids posters). There is a $10 minimum limit on cards. Staff are also really hospitable. I wanted to looked at some of the labradorite they had in one of the standing glass cases, and was waiting for the woman who wanted to look at a rose quartz angel to finish. Oh my god, this woman kept dropping whatever she picked up to the point I was wondering if it was on purpose. I'm talking like four to five times and she only picked up two things. Because these are solid, weighty pieces of stone continuously being loudly dropping onto glass shelves, I flinched every time sure that (THIS TIME) SOMETHING was going to crack or break. Finally, the employee very gently suggested they take the stone angels out of the case and examine it at a table with some cloth over it. And quickly, she told me to go ahead and look at their labradorite pieces. Later, I actually started discussing wire-wrapping and -weaving with the employees. They really are great, and I can't wait to come back.I could just spend hours in there with all the books and stories. Not to mention, I think I could get some supplies to help me practice/better my tarot reading skills. read more

Came for tarot cards at 11am, they have demo for each oracle and tarot cards, my face is like I can check inside to see if I like the design or not. The boss is very friendly and patience with every customers. I rather come here to buy tarots cards instead of shopping on Amazon. When I checked out at front desk, I asked the friendly boss, can I have change $100 cash to $20, he was glad to help me, so I owe him a dessert, but I guess he would rather me to enjoy his store more. I could spend hours here! I came in two days in a row and brought a friend because there are just so many cool things to look at. If you're looking for tarot/guidance cards, they have PLENTY.
