Eri E.

What a cute store in Los Altos! I had no plans on dropping in while exploring Los Altos on holiday, but I'm glad I found this somewhat hidden bookstore in this cute small town. The store has a variety of children's books and kid lit for all grade levels. I was able to find a book for my nephew that focused on Filipino culture. I appreciate the diversity here! Service was friendly, I introduced myself as an author and they were stoked! Value and price is at MSRP but you can find some rarities and hidden local gems here too. There is also a section for adults to get books for themselves too but it's a good day for adults and their kids to browse around. This place really leans into the fact that books are magical!

What a beautiful bookstore! It's so cozy, modern and super inviting. Love the variety of subjects. The owner I met, Flo, very clearly loves books, authors and the community that gathers at Linden Books.

What great local bookstore with a huge selection of kid books! It's really nice to see their attention to Asian authors. We found a ton of Chinese story books and even a complete section dedicated just to Lunar New Year! It's wonderful to see so much Asian representation through books at a bookstore. Absolutely love it! Another plus is their friendly staff, well kept store and book prices aren't marked up.

This review is long overdue! Whenever we're in town, we always make sure to stop by. Whether it's to look for a gift, pick up the most recent release of a book series for our book worm, attend one of their in store events, or to simply browse after having some lunch or an afternoon play date. They have a huge selection of books, especially for kids! The prices are reasonable, the store is nice & clean (not to mention their bathrooms have a kid sized toilet & sink), & their staff are very friendly & knowledgeable!

I always enjoy my visit to Linden Tree Books. Their employees are very polite and always make an extra effort to help you find titles, or select books for gifts. It is an excellent bookstore for both children and adults. Although their books for young adults/adults is a bit smaller, any bibliophile can tell that it has been carefully curated by someone who understands the art of selecting well-written, articulate, and impactful books, especially in an age where bad books and unnecessary fluff are commonplace. They recently had an Asian American book display for the month of May, which showcased both serious literary works and works of entertainment. Last but not least, please take your kids here, so they can enjoy the wide selection of books and also explore reading in one of the many reading corners in this bookstore!

What a joy to walk into this store. Though most of the books are for kids (yes!) there is a section for adults to browse, while their kids are making discoveries. The staff recommendations, the way the bookstore is laid out, all make for a delightful browsing experience. Also, the staff I spoke to were particularly helpful, and kind in helping me find the books I was looking for. This place is a gem.

Wonderful bookstore in downtown Los Altos with one of the biggest selections of kids books! I loved all the unique book themed decorations around the store. Even the bathroom is decorated with puzzles. My niece and nephew loved browsing and looking through all the different collections. Great place to stop and browse for books!!

What a lovely Friday afternoon! A mother is reading a book to her child, and the sun lighting up the entire bookstore with warmth and happiness. Girls are wearing summer skirts, holding their books/toys in their hands. Projects about Earth Day are on the wall. A ton of local authors offer their books to the public from a special display. Linden Tree bookstore is a hidden gem for children, and it attracts adults as well. They have massive new book collections. The adventure will never end here.

Despite the rude customer service by Jennifer I still purchased the normal amount of books when I shop here.

Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2014 FELLOW YELPERS BE WARNED- rudeness, racism or both? 5 Yelp Stars for the book selection 0 Yelp Stars for the rude customer serivce Despite the bad customer service, I purchased my books totaling $144 today. THE BAD: I'm a loyal customer to Linden Tree Books and was sincerely appalled at the horrible customer service I encountered with a sales associate by the name of Jennifer. I told Jennifer that the Corduroy Book Sets on the floor (Corduroy Book + Corduroy Bear) were slightly dented and extremely dusty, inquiring if they had any in the back. She looked it up on the computer and said all they had was out on the floor. She stated she would give me 10% off, I agreed to that and left a stack of books on the counter (with a bookmark sign stating I was still shopping). While I was looking at the Passover books, I heard Jennifer talk to another employee lamenting if she should really give me the 10% discount off. I guess they didn't care that I was within earshot of the snarky comments they were making about me. After making my final selections I went up to the register. Jennifer said she couldn't give me the 10% discount off because she didn't feel like doing so. I told her the box sets that were on the floor were not in pristine condition. She looked at me as if I were speaking Aramaic. I repeated myself and she inquired what the word "pristine" meant. To make matters worse in a sarcastic tone, she said "Oh, by the way we don't accept returns on plush items." I looked her square in the eye and said, "I'm a loyal customer at Linden Tree Books. I've never returned anything here before. It won't be a problem," with that said I signed the receipt and ripped the tag off the Jack Russell Terrier plush toy. A FEW NOTES TO LTB: 1. Don't tell customers one thing and do another. 2. Talking in a snarkey manner about customers with fellow employees is not right. 3. Being rude to a customer is in poor taste, without customers you wouldn't have your hourly waged job. 4. Thank you for inspiring me to purchase the Corduroy Book Set at another bookstore today. THE GOOD: They have an excellent selection of books, journals, note cards- which I purchased today and in the past. IN CLOSING: It's my sincerest hope the owner does a refresher course for her employee in the finer points of good customer service.

Cozy and friendly bookstore. It's always nice to go to look for books for kids. I hope they have more books about Japan.

Do you have any dinosaurs?

Hi Julie! We don't have any dinosaur toys, but we have LOTS of dinosaur books (separated by age – one section for ages 8 and under and another section for older readers). Hope that helps!

But it was invisible to me. Until today, anyway. I am so happy I finally found it. Because Gourmet Works is much more than a store that sells candy and chocolate. In fact, as the name would suggest, it's more of a Gourmet food store and Gift Shop than a Chocolate Shop. But it's also a hella cool chocolate shop and that's the main reason I will be sure to return. Right when you walk in the door you are surrounded by an astonishingly large variety of items that would make the perfect gift for a loved one, or for yourself. Because, I ain't gonna lie, there were at least a dozen items that I considered buying for myself. I thought to myself, you know, I do so much for me, and it seems I rarely properly thank myself for my devoted patronage and self care. If you are interested in high quality gourmet gifts, Gourmet Works is definitely the place to go! They carry so many products you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. Gourmet Salts, Dried Herbs, Pasta Sauces, Dried Pasta, Curry Sauces, Masala Simmer Sauce, Special Preserves and Jams. An impressive, well-curated selection. Then, at the back of the store you find the kind of Chocolate display case that dreams are made of. Oh my Lord! Just the Truffle side alone would be enough to melt anyone's heart. But the other side, with the astonishing variety of hand dipped chocolates is where I lost it. I saw the Almond Bark and stopped dead in my tracks. I stared at that Almond Bark. The Almond Bark stared back at me. We were locked into that stare down for what seemed like an eternity. I was sure neither of us would ever give in. But then I blinked. Somehow I became aware that the wonderful woman behind the counter was asking me if she could help me. As I regained my senses, suddenly I felt so embarrassed. How long had I been staring at that Almond Bark? How many times had she tried to get my attention? I had no idea. I tried to play it off like there was nothing going on between me and that Almond Bark. I casually inquired about some Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt on a totally different shelf in the display case. Then, of course, I had to buy a couple of those Chocolate Covered Carmels with Sea Salt, to cover up the whole situation with me and the Almond Bark. I purchased a couple ordinary, un-chocolate covered Caramels with Sea Salt too. The woman behind the counter couldn't have been more gracious. She didn't let on that she knew exactly what was happening and I wasn't fooling anyone with the whole Chocolate Covered Caramels with Sea Salt charade. So, my thanks to Gourmet Works, and the gracious woman behind the counter, Padmaja (her family owns Gourmet Works). It was such a pleasure to shop at your wonderful store! Mikey C says: I'm coming back for you, Almond Bark!

It's probably the best bet to get a gift that is cute and unique but you want it to lean more towards being western and not too kawaii and anime. Think of gifting a punny keychain or cute Jellycat versus a Chiikawa plushie or anime acrylic if that makes sense. Meaning that it's probably easier and maybe more acceptable to get a slightly more normie a gift here than it is elsewhere. As you can see, I'm learning what it's like to touch grass and re-integrate into human society. There's a good number of plushies, Jellycat and unique ones like a pink fairy armadillo mole one, tote bags and socks, nice range of jewelry, lots of California themed goods if you're looking for souvenirs that aren't mega generic, and they have a lot of other items as well. As with the quality and high regard some of these items have (Jellycats are NOT cheap), it can be a bit pricier, so make sure that you shop around and check prices elsewhere and that you actually truly care about the person you're getting stuff for and it's not a forced obligation one (family member you're ugh with or coworker Secret Santa that you barely know). Maybe a couple cute things I had my eye on, but it wasn't really for me (speaks volumes about me), but I can see how a store like this works in a pinch if you're gift shopping.

It was enough that I noticed a couple of workers glared at me. For what's meant to be a leisurely, outdoor space, they overall don't appear very happy or warm, at least not to the casual customer curious enough to walk in on a weekend. I did end up getting a reasonably priced house plant (~$26, sticker says it's from a farm in Half Moon Bay) and a beautiful pinkish 5-stem rose bouquet (~$12) because they looked nice and healthy and I knew they'd make me happy, but the vibe itself here isn't the best compared to other nurseries. This also isn't really a full walk-in florist space. There are some pretty bouquet options to choose from, but it's not as extensive as expected particularly given the other reviews that make it sound like a dedicated florist service. I did see a lot of colorful potted orchids lined up across the front window. Also, overall the items in the gift shop are extremely pricey and up marked -- doesn't seem like much shopping gets done in this space -- and it's less so a quaint country shop vibe and more so try-hard pretentious.

GIFTS: I was so shocked at all the gift options in this place! And I almost didn't go in because it's located INSIDE the community senior center. But I found the things they sell remind me of what you'd find at Cranberry Hill, nice quality, only this shop is smaller and the prices are lower. Gifts for ME too...lol. Given the pricing and cute stuff, I might have (definitely did) buy a few things for myself too. EASY TO FIND: Anyway, it was easy to find, they had a sign. You just turn right as soon as when you walk in the double doors and they're right there. The center is that huge lot by the duck park, and the senior center is at the far back of the lot. PRICES: They really have a wide range of pricing because of their selection so I feel I can easily find something price appropriate for the person I'm buying for. They had a ton of small things under $5 (even $2 and $3 dollar things) like little mats for under your coffee mugs, but higher end like the amazing colorful hand knit scarf I bought...for myself. It was hand knit with that extra thin yarn...a million stitches and only $45?! Bring on fall! CARDS?! What? YES and so cheap (good riddance Hallmark). Tons of cards like those high end Papyrus ones at the store that are more like a part of the gift, only these started at only $3.50 a card. Crazy. HAND-CRAFTED: Sometimes I think "church bizarre" when I hear that, but they said everything in there was hand made and it looked so professional to me. SELECTION: They fit a lot of stuff in that little shop. Candles, paper art, purses/bags, jewelry and lots of beaded things, knit things, towels, even children's stuff, and a ton of hand sewn gifts like placement settings, and cup holders, etc. Even some of the jewelry (Pom-Pom key chains and seed bead stuff) were teen friendly, along with some of the fairytale paper art boxes. TWO CRAFT FAIRS: They were advertising a craft fair and said they do two a year, in May and November and that it's supposed to be huge with tons more stuff, so I'll be heading back for that. MEN: Honestly, this seems is a great place to men to find gifts for the various ladies in their lives.
