Stumble upon this nice used bookstore. No only does it have its own personality overall, check out the variety books. Great selection from which I picked up two books myself. Best part of strolling through the stacks are the interesting comments, images, and quotes throughout the store. So check out those bookshelf end caps for some thought proving wisdom. I've been going to Feldman's for years and it's always had a great selection of books for a great price. Though I miss the high stacks and patio from the El Camino location, the new location on Curtis makes it even more convenient to stop in while running errands downtown. This is the most quirky and whimsical bookstore you will ever come across. I walked into a great selection at even GREATER prices. I don't even read that often, but I found many that stuck out to me so much I just had to buy. All of the workers were super nice as well. I've been visiting Feldman's since they were off El Camino. I went to the city council meeting in support of them, that fought to save their tenancy there, and continued to visit after it was overruled and they moved to Curtis. I'm so glad they found a home and still appear to be going strong. They have everything you might ask for, and the store is well-organized. History, plants, cookbooks, new arrivals, and a very sizable mystery section. They even have an upright piano, which they encourage all patrons to play. My only feedback is that the back of the shop is quite dark and would benefit from some small point lights in the corners in the winter months. I come here on weekends and can while whole hours away without even thinking about it. If you're looking for a reasonably priced used bookstore with cozy vibes and an eclectic selection, come to Feldman's. I will forever! read more

If you asked me to share a list of places in the Bay Area to visit if you were on a whirlwind trip, Feldman's would be pretty high on that list. If you are looking for an esoteric selection then this probably ain't quite the used bookstore of your dreams! But if you just want to browse some interesting books in a great neighborhood while listening to some tasty tunes, I can't think of too many bookstores that check all the boxes. Most of the books you'll see on the shelves appear to be used. A big part of the experience for me is the great music they play on their old fashioned jukebox all day long. So if you want a quick trip to the sixties and back after a busy day/week, this place could easily be your favorite hangout in Menlo Park! read more

I visited this bookstore and was treated to a delight. A pianist came in decided to treat the store to an impromptu concert. The woman who was tending to the shop allowed me to sit in one of the many provided chairs around the store and enjoy the concert, no questions asked. The bookstore is cozy and filled with used books. I love the vibe of this lovely place. Very nice. There is another bookstore nearby but it feels a bit more like a chain store, like Barnes and Nobles. This bookstore has a mom and pop feel. I highly recommend the experience. Additionally, I witnessed the woman behind the counter assist an elderly gentleman who came in with a cane and required assistance. She was friendly and accommodating to him, and I thought this was worth noting. read more

I searched for a particular book online and stumbled across Feldman's as having it. All ready to do mail order when I discovered it's only a few miles from home! Looking around for the store in downtown Menlo Park...hmm I didn't even know this tiny little street existed! There it was, on the shortest street imaginable. What a cool used book store! Well laid out, and organized with an eclectic set. The fact that they had a turntable on the counter along with a handful of records for sale, and the rock and roll books section right by the front counter scored big pts with me. And lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Prices were very reasonable. So glad menlo could support a used bookstore, a seemingly dwindling breed. Finally peeled my daughter off the recent arrivals table and told her don't worry, we'll be back. read more

I went here twice, dropping $122 on used books the first time, but having such a poor experience the second time that I won't be returning. On the plus side, Feldman's has a good collection, with a solid variety of genres and authors. Not great, mind you; it pales in comparison to larger used book stores in San Francisco, but is better than many other places in the South Bay. The prices are hit-or-miss. I found decent value my first time there, including buying an entire collection of old Joseph Conrad hardcovers that the friendly woman working the counter gave me a deal on, not charging me for two of them. Unfortunately, my second visit highlighted the store's shortcomings. Mr. Feldman himself was working the counter that day, and I brought in some books to sell him. He tersely, rudely replied that he wasn't interested in any of my collection. Out of curiosity, I politely asked why and what he was looking for, as the books I brought in were very similar to those he carried. At first he defensively said it was his perogative not to buy them, which I certainly never disputed. Eventually, he gave me a series of answers that made no sense, and were simply dishonest. I didn't press further as he appeared uncomfortable, but I wasn't sure what I did to warrant such an attitude. Afterwards, I perused the books and encountered some ridiculous prices. There were a series of Doc Savage stories contained in small, very cheap paperbacks that were badly beaten up, with ripped, badly yellowed pages. And yet, each one was $4. 4 dollars for books in a series almost no one reads anymore, in awful condition. There is no way that Feldman's paid more than 50 cents per book in this collection (and likely less), so why not settle sell these for $1, or even $2? $4 is ridiculous and greedy, and left almost as sour a taste in my mouth as trying to sell to Mr. Feldman. I won't be returning here. read more

Feldman is one of the few remaining brick-and-mortar bookstore not killed by Amazon. Given its proximity to Stanford, the store has many unusual titles that you can browse through. I found several out-of-print books that were very interesting. read more

This densely stocked shop sells all manner of used books. I spied gorgeous 30s editions of Frank L. Baum's Oz stories, the Great Books series (that nobody ever reads), paperback fiction from various decades in various conditions, a decent array of graphic novels, children's fare both current and not so, books on sport, magic, geography, politics, biography, sci-fi, and foreign language in the form of both grammars/dictionaries and actual literature, among the shelves. Need a Hawaiian language dictionary or an Irish grammar book? What about Steinbeck auf Deutsch? Well then Feldman's might just be your spot! I particularly dug the musty-dusty book smell that hits the nose when one enters the shop. Adding to the atmosphere were the many, vibrant oriental rugs covering the floor and the classical music playing softly in the background. Get ready to spead some quality time scanning the shelves for those 'must have' reads. The shop is comprised of two, separate bulidings bridged by an outside sit-space, leafy and green. The loo is out back as well, should 'nature call' while book persuing. Feldman's is practically brimming with books. It seems unfathomable that anyone would leave this place sans purchase. I really liked this place. It's packed with books, from floor to ceiling, and has a quaint outdoor nook in between the two buildings with a hammock, a fountain, and plenty of shade and greenery. The books on the shelves are well organized, so it was easy to browse. There are additional piles of books off the shelf that add to the "used-bookstore "atmosphere. The owner of the place helped me find the book I was looking for. He was friendly and we chatted a bit about the book I had chosen. Probably the best used book store in the Peninsula. Huge collection and mostly good prices (books about 75% off). The back area is all paperbacks and it's a separate building where you briefly walk out into an open patio area to enter it, and it has this somewhat slightly enchanting feeling. Slight knock: some of the really old paperbacks that should be like $1 are priced at $4. It's a book so I don't mind but feels inconsistent when pages start falling out. read more

This place is awesome! The selection of books you can pick is huge, enormous--or as the French call it, grande. People are always thinking, "Oh, maybe I'll check it out and get a bargain!" Yes, this is possible, but you need to scroll through the stacks for that hidden gem. No one is going find the latest New York Times bestseller here for 30% off. This is a old bookstore with a great collection, you just have to be interested in the genres Feldman's provides. And it's not that hard. Feldman's Books has a vast quantity of books. When you enter the first room, a customer will be like, "Hey, a lot of books, but I've seen more." However, this customer will proceed to find a building of books, and then a courtyard, and then another building. There are also SO MANY nooks and crannies in this place! If you explore, you'll find a genre just right for you. I was browsing the Used Paperback section and found the Humor section. I immediately fell in love. This is a great place to get books that are out of print, or just rare. Feldman's also has so many collector editions. Visit anytime, and you'll never be disappointed. You just need to explore. The owner, Mr. Feldman, is super nice and has a no BS type attitude. He gives you the facts and what he has in his collection. Somehow he knows what he has and doesn't have, and will tell you. I really love Feldman's Books. I've been about a dozen times and always find something good. It's got a big collection, but curated enough that it's not full of bad books in bad condition. The store is run by twin brothers. They have very different personalities. I had a lot of funny, puzzling interactions here until I realized that I was dealing with two completely different people. One brother is much dryer and funnier than the other brother. They're both nice. The physical space itself has a lot of charm. If you're looking for a particular book, you can probably find it here. If you want to browse and discover interesting books, the collection is curated enough that you can do that too. There's also Kepler's books down the street if you can't find something. read more

This is a quaint little place, and the tiny courtyard is a lovely respite from the busy world outside. There's a small parking lot in back, and we lucked out with the last spot. The guy manning the checkout when I went with my six-year-old son seemed genuine. He didn't use the overly friendly customer service tone, which was refreshing. He greeted us kindly when we came in, indicated the kids' section, and left us to explore. The collection of books has outgrown the shelves, and there are stacks of them on the floor, on top of the shelves, and lining the windows and the checkout counter (which is actually a desk). But it's exactly what I expect from a used book store...character. We spent an hour and a half there, roaming the stacks, then relaxing in the courtyard with our finds and some Starbucks. We ended up buying three books (two adult fiction and one pop-up children's book). Checkout was smooth (they have a card reader, which is nice), and the clerk let my son push the magic cash register button that released the money drawer with a CHA-CHING! Here's the thing: This place is WAY overpriced. I'd love to give it more stars, but honestly, 3 used books should not equal 23 dollars. That's literally it. Even with the ambiance, TEN bucks is pushing it. Unless they're gonna serve up some complementary espresso and hot chocolate, I don't see how the prices are justified. So, while I appreciate the charm, and I don't regret our visit at all, this was a one-time stop for me. read more

Omg love this place. We are living in Menlo Park from 1 yr but didn't know abt this place. One day saw it while driving. Read the yelp reviews, found out that you get a good collection. And books are in good condition. So finally I went and I must say, I loved the place. Huge collection from fiction to arts to history etc. from long time wanted to read Hawthorne's short stories, to my surprise I found it :) Reasonable prices like "Armada" always knew it's not as good as RPO but still it was on my list. Novel is marked at $16, on amazon you get it for $12 and I got the used copy (excellent condition) for $7. Parking lot is small but trust me you will find road side parking near by. I am confident, from now on this is my go to place for buys books. I also came to know that they buy used books too, so might take few next time I go. I highly recommend this bookstore. read more
