I was craving a sandwich and I found this shop on yelp with only 20 min to get there before the closed for the day. When I entered I was instantly greeted by the cashier and she took my order and even suggested add on's to my sandwich allowing me to taste a sauce I never had before. She was very patient and kind. I order a whole sandwich for my boyfriend and I, it was 16 inches in total huge! Hot pastrami... oh man was it good! The owner randomly asked if it was my first time there... it was and he threw in a free bag of chips of my choice, and another for my boyfriend! I also purchased a hero king brand soda, I got the vanilla cream flavor. It was very good. Overall, I would return again they have a VIP offer where if you buy 9 sandwiches you get the 10th free. I will definitely return to fill up my card. As their last customer of the day, they treated me as if I were their first. read more

Skeptical when I saw this on Yelp read the reviews and went for it. Got 4 sandwiches from that day and I must say it's quite tasty and very fresh. Had the "Godfather", "Turkey sub" "Tuna Sand" and "Liverwurst Sandwich". All very good we'll definitely come back. But the best part are the customer service from owner and staff are very helpful and friendly! read more

Your treated like family as soon as you walk in. Their sandwiches are the best in North Jersey. My first visit they gave me a complimentary chocolate egg cream soda which was great. Definitely the hidden Gem in Nutley NJ read more

Great New local spot! Been here a few times and always leave satisfied without fail!. Picked "The Hoboken" today for lunch and cannot have enough of it! If you're a fan of fresh hot roast beef, fresh mozzarella and a nice helping of gravy then you have got to try this!. The shop is small but very clean and have a good selection that gives you enough variety to choose from, the staff also makes you feel right at home. They mainly do Hero's but believe me they do it well. Will definitely be going back again for more! read more

Ordered the muscle wrap in sandwich form. Very disappointing. Bread was soft, which was okay, but was soggy from the roasted peppers and balsamic. A nice crusty loaf would have been preferred. Chicken strips were microwaved and bland. Some parts of the mozzarella were dry and rubbery. Also bland. Roasted red peppers were the saving grace as they provided most of the flavor for the sandwich. Italian herbs and sweetness. Balsamic vinegar was minimal. Overall, the sandwich was incredibly bland, esp compared to the same thing from an italian deli. It desperately needed salt. The chicken had grill marks on it, but not even any hint of flavor whatsoever. VERY surprised that this place has 5 stars. I will not be coming back here. read more

Doesn't live up to all the hype. Plain and simple, the bread is a joke. The do a good job at giving you a lot of cold cuts but with bread that lacks as much as this it's a waste of time. read more

What an amazing establishment. I had to order lunch, last minute, for a conference. A colleague suggested Hero King. When I called to place order, the staff was warm, friendly and accomodating. They also recommended great selections. The food was delivered on time and presented nicely. The sandwiches were delicious just like traditional old fashioned subs with all the works. The bread was so soft & fresh. Everyone kept raving about the Tortellini salad with the fresh Mozzarella. Our operations team is already planning to place orders for our large DMM meeting. What a gem! read more

If you appreciate a good, well built sandwich then Hero King is the place for you. I discovered this place a couple years ago while driving up the Parkway on my way home to CT. I used the Yelp app and as usual Yelp delivered. This place is just minutes off the Parkway. Today I picked out a #6 ham, prosciuttini and provolone. The hero was delicious and everything about it was quality. The only negative thing I can say is it made me very sad when I took my last bite. If I'm traveling down to NJ then this place will be a must stop no. read more

OUTSTANDING SANDWICH!!! I just stopped in to grab a quick bite and was rewarded with a very finely made Italian sub. The customer service was also fantastic!! I was welcomed the instant I walked in with a smile. and was guided in my menu choice (I forgot my glasses). Great Job!! The sandwich was piled high with quality deli meat and fresh lettuce/tomatoes. They didn't drown it with oil and vinegar and the bread was soft and tasty. My only request would be to have whole wheat bread as a 2nd choice. I will DEFINATELY be coming back here!!! Dam good Sammich!!!!! read more

I was in the area, craving a sub and stumbled across The Hero King. I ordered the Hot Italian Lover and it hit the spot . Luckily, I snagged the last loaf of bread, which is a reliable indicator of a great sandwich business. So, if you're planning on stopping by, I'd call ahead to order or check that they still have bread. Rae Lyn and John were wonderful and so accommodating. Will definitely be back to try more subs!! read more

This review is long overdue, but this place is fantastic! The sandwich I ordered was so delicious and the staff are so unbelievably nice. I am new to Nutley and was given a warm welcome and offered free soda and chips. Amazing place I will continue to be a regular at. read more

Hero King - Nutley - Roast beef, turkey, and provolone sub - Sandwiches Near Me - Nutley, New Jersey

Simply the best sandwiches. Well built, perfect meat ratio, ginormous, friendly staff and owners, hands down the tastiest in the area. A true "sub"... what it should be. read more

Not much else to say but give this place a try. Food is always excellent and seems to get better with every visit. Bread is always super fresh and they pack it with just the right amount of filling. Pair a half up with a bag of chips and one of their house sodas and you have a great little lunch. Staff is great, always accommodating and eager to please. Recently had food catered and it was better than expected. Pop in on a Wednesday or a Saturday for "The Hoboken" , you won't regret it. read more

I like the bread here. Soft & tastes fresh. A little too much meat on the sandwich for me but thats a personal choice. Its really small inside. Hurry before the bread runs out. I'd call ahead. Cant wait to try a sandwich w/ fresh mozzarella one day. A little more oil and vinegar and i'd have loved my sandwich. Best of luck and much success to this place. read more

The perfect 'walk in, get an amazing sub and walk out' kind of place. I recommend this to anyone, no matter what their favorite is (PS...in true Italian fashion, they have meat free options on Fridays during Lent). Never disappoints! read more

Decided to stop by on my way to get a haircut and decided to get the muscle wrap. It consisted of grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, and some balsamic vinaigrette on a whole wheat wrap. The wrap was kind of messy and wet but surprisingly it did not leak through the paper it was wrapped in. The mozzarella was extremely fresh and the chicken was not dry at all. It was a little pricey but for the freshness it is definitely worth the price. I would definitely come back here again. read more

Very good and friendly service. Sandwiches are top shelf. Looking forward to trying the Hoboken special roast beef sandwich. We will be back! read more

Hero King - Nutley - Life is Good - Sandwiches Near Me - Nutley, New Jersey

Every time I visit we order submarines from here. A local family with great personality own and work here. The food is to die for. A full size sub is definitely 2 meals for most. The flavors just make your tastebuds dance. Cannot recommend highly enough. read more

First of all, amazing customer service. Everyone there was friendly and I even got a free soda for my first time there. That's class. The cold cuts are freshly sliced with each order. The bread is fresh as well. The bread is a soft type. I usually prefer the harder crust Italian bread style but I am making the exception here. This bread has flavor. The sandwich was thick and fills you up. For my first time, I had a basic Italian. Delicious. I look forward to my next visit. I may go with a hot sub. They have the Hoboken roast beef sandwich (hot roast beef, gravy and mutz) a couple days a week. And that sounds too good to pass on. read more

Excellent experience. Ordered the #1 (spiced ham, salami, provolone) and added hot peppers. If you order a whole, it is cut into fours due to it's hugeness. The sub was dripping with oil/vinegar which is what a sub is supposed to do. The owner was super friendly and threw in a free bag of chips. They also have a rewards program so you can get a free sandwich after some repeat visits. read more

5 stars yup that's right!! This place is straight fire! When I walked in it felt like my family was welcoming me. They know what service means. Once I bit into my delicious pastrami sandwich I realized they know what quality means! I WILL BE BACK! read more

See all

This was our first time ordering from Hero King, and we were so happy we did. We ordered the Larry David, The Cowboy, Hot Italian Lover and Tree Hugger. They were unfortunately out of eggplant, so we couldnt get the tree hugger, but we loved everything else. My personal fave was the hot Italian lover, cappicola, salami, and provolone with the works. The service was friendly and prompt. I like that they have monitors that show them making the sandwiches in the back. Not something I would have ever requested, but its a nice detail. I would certainly order again. read more

Amazing customer service! Stopped by during my lunch break and waited less than 5 minutes for my sandwich. Before leaving, I was "welcomed to the family." It was a very wholesome experience and I will definitely be stopping by again. read more

Your hunt for the perfect sub shop has ended. HERO KING is it!! Everything about this place is perfect, the friendly people that work there, the pics of Jersey Legends on the wall...but the Sammys are what you'll come back for because they are the best made, anywhere. Go on Saturday and get the Hoboken to have under bring it to you. Nothing fancy, just delicious roast beef, cheese and gravy. They made the roast beef there so it' fresh tender and delicious. The bread they use is perfect-not too hard and not soft and mushy, just perfect. The classic Italian set the bar for ham, salami provolone, I add capagoul...delicious! Or just order the Larry David, I'm not even going to tell you what it is, just order it. If it's not too crowded, you might even get a magic trick! The real magic is how they make such great Sammys! Go Now! read more

Have had Hero King a few times and have not been disappointed yet! Subs are pretty big and the Zinicola rolls hold up well and taste delicious! read more

I started delivering for UberEats as a side hustle about 2 months ago. Since then I've had the opportunity to visit and peruse different menus from many restaurants I have never been to before. Living in North Jersey you just can't get to them all! That being said I was picking up sandwiches for two customers and decided to order one while I was waiting. The owners suggested a classic italian sub. It wasn't very good. It was great! The owners were super nice and the sandwich was perfect. Im looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu. The Hoboken and The Larry David are next! read more

Love this spot! Great heros, great friendly service. I'll be back for more!

Big ole sandwiches from such a small place!!! Bread to meat ratio was just right. I ordered the "God Father" and added some proscutinni. Well balanced sandwich, great macaroni salad & seltzer to top it off also gave me a free bag of chips for the win!! Can't forget the excellent customer service! Thanks guys read more

Delicious The only reason it's 3 instead of 5 stars is for 20 bucks for a full sandwich I was expecting more meat. The Larry David, almost consistently leaves more to be wanted for me. Every time I order it, I expect meat for every bite and I'm left disappointed. I'll have like 4 big bites of bread and sauce, come on guys don't be stingy with the meat and cheese, or bring down the prices to reflect it at least. read more

First time here. They were super friendly and make great sandwiches. I got the Hot Italian and it was great.

I always have the intention to try out different subs. But, I always end up ordering #21! Their half size is a generous portion. Their bread and ingredients are always fresh. When I'm feeling hungrier than usual, I also pick up a side of either macaroni or potato salad. Both are delicious! read more

After reading other reviews it seemed like a place I just had to try. I ordered the Hoboken which seems to be the sandwich they are known for especially since it's only available on a certain day. It was ok no real dynamic flavor very straight forward roast beef sandwich with mushroom gravy. The fresh mozzarella doesn't really stand out. Service was great and a good looking menu but didn't live up to the hype for me read more

The hoagies here are fresh, juicy and bursting with fresh flavor. Best sandwiches around and best sandwich I've had in a long time

Great find. Was in the mood for a fresh, meaty sub and this place did not disappoint. The bread was so fresh and the meat slices were stacked up as a wide mouth full. Just enough sauce and oil to give it a nice kick. The in house beverages were outstanding. My husband and I had the pineapple and lemonade and near were too sweet which is the case with most drinks. The lady at the counter was super friendly and helpful and even offered to come to our car when the order was complete. read more
