Absolutely loved this shop! There's so much to see and so many great deals. I found 3 figures here I didn't even know existed, which should tell you the extent of their collection considering I own hundreds of DC figures. They also had board games on consignment, which was awesome, so found some games for my hubby there as well. The staff was super nice. Only drawback was no public restrooms anywhere in the shopping strip, which isn't great for limited mobility folks. Dickie's is the closest restroom and they required purchase to use the restroom. We were visiting the area from out of town, so not sure if this is a local thing or not, but figured to warn in advance :) read more

I love wandering through the poster section, making my way to the comic books, and wrapping up my visit by checking out all the collectible items from Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I had a great chat with the owner about underrated characters, and when he said Daredevil, it just made me appreciate those nerdy bonds even more. Was a fun experience, they even had pokémon cards! though they were way overprice- if the owners of the store see this, my suggestion is to lower it to 6 dollars for the other sets, and keep the price for say prismatic evolutions. they also had a bunch of comic books, some i had never heard of before, the employee checking us out of the store was super nice and quick! i recommend this- it's only 4 stars due to the price hike. read more

This is my local comic shop. I have a pull list/hold slot here. I come here because for me this is the easiest shop I can get to. Now that I have been getting my issues there for awhile they have started to know when to pull side issues of heroes for me and I'm always surprised when I get something pulled that I wasn't expecting but wanted. They have a lot of cool big ticket issues of comics that you can check out or buy if you have the means. Not a lot of long boxes to rummage through to find older comics but they have plenty of new comics to buy. This place seems to do the most business with toys and collectibles which I have no interest in. As a side note, I am grateful for Jim and his kindness a store owner. I think he is one of the best local business owners I have come across. Everyone in the store seems really nice and I am guessing it is because of the attitude that Jim has with them and his customers. read more

This place is magic. I have purchased two hot toys here, one of which had faulty pieces and was quickly and kindly handled by the staff right away. The people are super nice and I could browse for hours (I'm sure I have). Please patron amazing places like this! There are too few out there! Good selection of new comics on their wall of comics, those prices are good because they can't really up the price on a comic that just came out, regular cover, nothing special. The selection is there and they do have quite a bit of trades. They have a decent amount of Pop figures too, if you're into that. Now onto the other part of the store, the collectibles, toys and merchandise. They have a few older toys, in the box. They have some cool statues to look at that seem a bit over priced. But the thing that really got me was the prices on their new toys. They're marked up so much when you could easily go down the street to Walmart and buy the same figure for it's intended price! I've read some other's reviews saying they run next door to Toys-R-Us to grab new action figures and then mark the prices up. I can't say I've seen him there, or anyone that works there go into one of those places but it wouldn't be hard to believe since the Toys-R-Us next door didn't have ANY of the new release figures, yet they seemed to have them, just at a marked up price. I'd rather go down the street, like I said, and grab the figure I need and save 5-10 bucks. Unlike others, I will shop here again - just comics. If I need my action figures I'll go to Toys-R-Us or a Walmart that isn't near them. read more

I'd been visiting Mile High Comics on Broadway for years, and having moved to the suburbs in recent months, have been dropping into the Mile High location on Wadsworth. One day I took my kids into Hero Headquarters on Sheridan and was very impressed with "Jim" the Manager, who was eager to discuss new books, story-lines, upcoming issues and even honest enough to tell me what I would like and what I wouldn't. By helping me put stuff back on the shelf, I was happy to pick up and buy 2 more books! They have all the current books, DVDs and posters, but also have one of the most impressive selections of action figures and collectibles I've ever seen. Take your head out of the TV and computer for a while, drop into Hero Headquarters and ask for a good comicbook series. They won't steer you wrong. read more

Love this store! I'm shocked by the negative reviews. I personally know these folks and they do not create "fake" ids and bully folks (of which I can't figure out why yelp would allow maligning comments of this nature without proof). And for those of you that would like to sell your collections to the store, they can't pay you market price or else they would be out of business. They have to make a profit in order to continue to provide you with new goodies. Come on folks, you can't have it both ways. And the fact that many of you are leaving the exact same review multiple times is petty and should also not be allowed by Yelp. I've been coming to the store for nearly 12 years and have always had a pleasant experience, which as a woman, I can't say for other comic shops. TRUE BELIEVERS! Pull up a chair, crack open a Yoo-Hoo, and I will tell you a tale of a hobby store most fantastic. On my way home from a trip up to north Arvada one evening, I spied the enormous 'COMICS' sign from Wadsworth. Like the Bat Signal gleaming in the Gotham night sky, its call was impossible to ignore. After confirming its hours on the Yelp app (thanks, Alfred), I stopped in to Hero Headquarters to have a look around. Although I haven't had much use for a comic book store since high school, my real mission was to get my fix on some Magic cards (don't act so surprised). When I came in from the sleet outside, my heart was instantly warmed by the familiar sight of nerdy desirables of years passed. Comics and card games and toys, oh my! Hero Headquarters is the kind of store my thirteen year-old self would've had wet dreams about. The walls and stand-alone displays are plastered with any kind of action figures you could dream of: horror, sports, Star Wars and Trekkie, and of course, lots and lots of superheroes. From ceiling to floor, the owner has transformed this strip mall fortress into a plastic paradise. Some of them will put you back a pretty penny (if only I'd KNOWN that my Thor action figure would be worth three figures M.I.P.!), but for those who collect the stuff, you're sure to find something on your list. Makes for great Christmas shopping for the Comic Book Guy (or girl) in your life. Although I didn't browse through the comics during my short stay, the collection did not look as though it were wanting. Current titles arranged neatly on the wall near the counter, and plenty of back stock on hand, too. Next time I'm in, I'll have to take a longer stay so I can soak in the mint-near mint sights and smells. I assume the comics are as neatly organized as the toy displays, which is nice: not every comic book store is this keen on appearances, folks. Now onto the task at hand: my newly-reignited love affair with 2 x 3" printed cardstock. I came into HH looking to pick up a few Magic booster packs for my students (who have recently reintroduced me to one of my first nerdy loves), and was greeted with booster and starter packs for all the sets from the last 18 months or so. I asked the friendly clerk on hand if he sold singles, and he replied unfortunately, he did not. A minor disappointment, but I was still able to get what I came in for. I asked the gentlemen for three packs, and he rang me up after finishing a transaction with another couple--evidently regulars. When it came time for payment, I whipped out a ten dollar bill (the only cash on me) and was faced with a difficult equation: (3 booster packs x $3.25) + tax = I SUCK AGAIN. Slightly embarrassed, I unsheathed my debit card out to cover the charges, but the clerk politely declined. "Don't worry about it," he tut-tutted, "We'll call it even." Keeping a buck might not seem like a big deal, but letting your customers know that you value their business over a few pennies definitely is. Next time I'm feeling the urge for some cheap thrills (or top-shelf toys), I know where I'm headed. In a town ruled by Mile High Comic's iron fist, it's refreshing to run into an independently-owned store that has stock AND service to boot. If comics, toys, or games be your bounty, Hero Headquarters be your destination. Oh, and a holiday bonus: when I stopped in, the store was playing the Andy Griffith Show holiday special on DVD. Hard to believe places like this still exist in this economy. It's a a nice place to come to browse if you are feeling nostalgic or want to look at a "hoard" of toys and collectibles but a word of caution before making a purchase: If, like me, you are a serious collector, then you've done your homework and know the value and where to look online to find all of this stuff for much, much less. Once you enter through the door you have passed into the realm of the Secondary Market where speculative prices are outrageously ridiculous. All sales are final. Buy at your own risk. That Hulk statue sure does look neat. read more

Love this store -- this place is for people who love the collecting aspect of comics for sure. every book -- that's right, each and every book in the store -- comes bagged and boarded FREE OF CHARGE and there's no upcharge on most of the variants; 9 out of 10 variatns are sold at the cover. for the few super rare issues that are above the cover price, it's not a crazy inflated price that youd see at other comic stores, more like $5-10 extra. also tons of classic and milestone issues for sale at fair prices. That's just on the new comics side. Hero HQ also has LOTS of tpbs hard covers and paperback, not to mention pretty much any toy you might want. Bottom line: these guys and gals know their stuff and will sell awesome memorabilia to you at a fair price. 10/10, will keep coming back (probably going in today)! read more

I didn't see much of anything I wanted to buy and the few things I wanted was too much for me but I love the store and would go back in a heartbeat. I don't know how this place stays in business. Not only are they over priced but the employees are rude. No eye contact no greeting. One girl with blondish hair never does anything but sits behind the corner people watching with a ugly look on her face! It's sad how people just show up to get paid. If you're looking for Action Figures then this is the place to look for them if you can afford it. All of them are ridiculously overpriced. One is better off searching online. In terms of comics there's an alright selection of back issues. Seems they do new comics but only order a couple to fill the shelves. Otherwise one can pass this place over. read more

This shop is clean, the staff was friendly but I wouldn't really call it a comic shop. The selection consists of action figures, action figures and some more action figures. Yes, they do have comics and some card game boosters but not all that much. If you're looking for action figures go for it, I'm sure you'll fine something, if you're looking for comics or gaming supplies I'd look somewhere else. read more

Remember the old TV show where the theme song was "sometimes you want to go where everybody knows you name"... That's this place for comic geeks. To be fair, I am biased about this place. My experience with the place goes back to the late 80's when I came home on leave from the military and my best friend asked for help opening his new store in the Westminster mall. He wanted to call it "True Believer" comics, but his mom, after speaking to several people while putting in the paperwork for the business decided that made it sound like a bible store and changed the name to "The Comic Store". Simple Sweet No misunderstanding about what the place was. There are years of history in that revolve around that place, they moved out of the mall, my best friend sold it due to his declining health, they moved again, and just recently doubled (or so) in size. Well name has changed, the owner has changed a couple of times, but the manager of the place is still the same guy. They have expanded to toys (action figures ect) but the place is still basically the same. Jim, the manager, is a terrific guy who knows his products. There is a new set of supporting cast members from when I used to visit a lot more often, but they are smart and friendly. " Hero HQ" is now the store name. They have an impressive collection of comics, toys and what not for those that collect. The new owner has managed to get several impressive collections into the store for sale, Old Spiderman's, Fantastic Fours and the like. Not just old comics, but old comics in terrific condition. While the name may a bit more confusing about what the store is, the window paintings of superheroes should clear it up as you pull into a parking spot. While the place still seems like a spin off of "The Big Bang Theory", that not a bad thing to be, and after just a visit or two, everybody knows your name. read more

I want to tell you that If I was just pulled in off the street without pretense I would give this place an equally sterling review, but I can't. Do I think my review could be helpful? Perhaps! I've been coming to this location for years, but in the last few I've been there religiously. They're the spot with my pull list. They're the ones I trust with my big nerd decisions. All of their staff is book-ended with knowledge surpassing "yeah, the guy from the movie is in this book". Speaking of the staff, the ones I see on Wednesdays are the whole reason I go. Jim's always been a cornerstone of my experience and he's always been fair with me. There was a time way back when I ran into some financial troubles and like most hobbies, comics had to go on the back burner and I had to eventually let my hold box go. I returned some time later and I've been dutiful to make sure I buy everything I put in there (even most of the suggested reads or tie-ins to event books). One day I hope I don't have to dedicate a whole section to this, but at this point in our society I do think it should be mentioned. They have female employees. SHOCK. I do believe that aside from Jim the only other full time in-store employees are women. But if you think they're just there to file away books and keep the counters clean, you're sorely mistaken. In fact, if you're a "nerdbro" and assume they wouldn't know their Apocalypse from their Apokolips, you're sorely mistaken. I'd go so far as to say if you're of that opinion, you might need to take a few lessons in decorum (or a shower) before you make a visit. Bring your A game or you're liable to get schooled by a bunch of "girls" /rant I spend way too much money there, and for good reason. I've never been steered wrong by anything that's been suggested and I'm given excellent pricing on the books that I do pick up. The toys and collectibles that I purchase are almost always on impulse, almost always weekly- and yes the collectibles are pricey and I could probably hunt them down somewhere else for a better price, but they provide something the other places don't. I've been searching for a local comic store to frequent and found Nirvana at Hero Headquarters. From the moment I entered the store, I was greeted and felt like Norm from the 80s TV show "Cheers"; like I'd been shopping there my entire life. Visually, HH is stunning. They have a wide array of comics, toys, and posters, all organized in an aesthetically pleasing way that makes a geek such as myself want to spend days in the store just gazing at everything they have to offer. Luckily, I went in an hour before closing time or I would've walked out bankrupt because they have such an amazing selection of comic and sci-fi related merchandise. It's like a museum for any pop culture fan but with reasonable prices. Amanda, and extremely friendly and knowledgeable sales associate, helped orient me to the store and quickly find the titles I was looking for. She also informed me about a subscription service HH provides for they will hold titles for customers who want to buy each monthly or bi-monthly issue. The associates at the checkout counter were helpful as well and looked up a few older titles for me to see if they could order them. As I mentioned, all the employees were so amiable and easy to talk to that I have found my new home for comic book buying in Colorado. read more

Staff wear masks during Covid. I started coming here because they bag and board all their comics, a lot of other shops don't and one small ding can drastically change the value of you comic. I also like the fact that my son can go toy shopping while I shop for comics. As a collector I appreciate them being upfront and going over the condition of back issue comics. read more

I have a small lot of Funko Pops I am no longer interested in keeping so I can focus on the lines I do want. I saw an ad on craigslist in the wanted section advertising looking for toy collections and specifically mentions looking for funko pops-- this was not an old ad- current, and they had several similar listings there. I decided to call ahead, I spoke to a woman on the phone who said they do buy Pops, price is based on box condition, what it is, etc. I asked if pricing was based on a percentage, she said yeah kinda- its also based off of ebay pricing. Im up in Fort Collins-- Sounded good to me, If I came away with 50 or even 40% of the value I would be happy. I have a rough idea of what my pops are worth individually, but haven't sat to calculate the value of them together as a whole- specifically the 60 or 70 pops I had gathered to take in to them. But it could be said the pops are probably worth 1100 to 1200-- easily 1000. I get to the store, looks like the owners son is the manager. Says he cant leave to store to help me carry them in, but he can help with the door- awesome! Helpful and friendly, I like that. It took them some time to go through them, and he repeatedly asked me if I knew how much I was looking to get for them or if I knew what they were worth- I said no, - which is true I have not sat down and added what those specific pops value comes to, I was looking to get 40 or 50% of the value. He had another employee, a woman, helping as they both spent time looking up the pops. After asking 5 or 6 times throughout the course of our interaction, if I had an idea of the value or what I was looking for, I did say they are probably worth 1100 to 1200 if I had to guess- and I be happy if I walked away with 500. He said he had to make a "phonecall". When he came back he gave me the whole- ive bought a lot of pop lots, I don't need them, funko pops are down right now, I can get yours for cheaper, and so forth. He offered me 150. Approximately 10% of their value. If you don't need pops why do you have an ad up saying "no collection too large or small" Sounds like mine was too big if you have SO many pops. Four people-- FOUR customers walked in and stopped to pick up and look at my pops while they were being gone through in the course of 30-45 mins. Manager even had to tell one of them they didn't belong to the store yet-- Go on, tell me these wont sell. I loaded up my boxes to go- quietly without making a fuss. I work in customer service myself I know what its like. Now the manager is leaving the store to help me load them- when he couldn't help before? After it is all loaded we are both outside and he says sorry, its not my decision (Why are you a manager that cant make decisions? Much less the son of the owner?) and offers to shake my hand. I refuse, no deal was stuck, what occurred wasn't close to wheeling and dealing, we weren't playing a friendly competitive game where that is required. I had a store manager offer me an insulting price, and you want a hand shake? I do NOT recommend this as the play to buy and sell your POPs- Hopefully its a better ball game for other toys. I haven't spent much time in comic book shops so I really can't compare to any other experience. I will say that this store was extremely clean and well organized. In movies these stores are depicted as dirty or jam packed with so many weird items, but this store was quite different. They had the store divided into two sections. One was of comics while the other was of action figures. They had a really large and very impressive selection of action figures. My family walked around for an hour just looking at everything on one side of the store. The other side is of comics. I can't really review the quality of this part of the store because I am not familiar with comics. However, they did have some value packs and a large variety. I did appreciate a conversation I overheard from one of the store employees. A mom was inquiring about buying a specific comic for her son. The employee politely asked how old the son was and with such amazing respect asked if the mom was familiar with the series and was wondering if she was aware of the sexual content in these series. She was completely unaware and even seemed upset that the son was asking her for these. I thought it was a very cool thing that the employee (who I believe was also the owner, later finding out) was more concerned with full disclosure than profit. He said he would gladly show her comics with similar types of stories that didn't have sexual content. As a parent I greatly appreciated hearing that conversation. I think it was appropriate in his situation to be sensitive to the age of the intended reader, as well as, the parent. I give it 4 stars and not 5 because it is a place you might want to monitor your children. Comics can be rather interesting, gruesome, and graphic. There were several different comics as well as action figures that were really disturbing for kids. It really isn't a place for little kids. read more

So I brung in some comics privelsly they told me that they Did not have a lot of those comics so I brought some in and they were trying to low ball me very bad costumer service would not recommend go elsewhere................... in response to the stores comment .....sorry I did not bring any star wars comics lol or bring anyone in with me if your asking I'm the guy that took in all the watchmen comics .....but I'm also not surprised that you tried to rip someone else off . From the sound of it the star wars couple was smart enough to not sell to you lol obviously this location has a real problem with customer service and treating sellers and buyers fair as there prices are way above market value read more

I will have to agree with another Review that mentioned this place being Overpriced. As I've been to a few other Comic Shops and got the same comic for way cheaper. I've only been to this place Twice as I'm into Comics not so much Toy Figures and they seem to have more toys than comics. And when I do ask the guy about certain Comics he never has anything I need/want in. . So overall, I give 3*s. Would I return? Probably ... If I'm looking for a newer comic and closer Comic shops don't have 'em. read more

I wanted to like this place... I really did... But it's merely mediocre compared to the other comic shops in the Denver Metro area. It's pretty much a gigantic collection of action figures. Nothing but action figures. Sure, they do have a wall of comics; all of the new releases, which for the most part, they stay up on stocking and keeping up to date... But not a lot of the independent publishers. Yet in the end, that's pretty much all there is to the store. A wall of the new release comics and action figures, action figures, and action figures. The back issue bins are paltry with very little variety. They have the appearance of an individual's personal collection for sale. A little bit of each popular hero / title, but that's it. Disappointing. Not only that, but they're overpriced. A quick perusing through a price guide or on MileHighComics.com will tell you that. And, while I'm not the expert on action figures, the prices of those also seem pretty steep. Although if one is a collector of figures, I imagine they'd be able to figure that out. I'll go elsewhere for my comic fix when I feel the need. But hey, they have that cool looking Hulk statue going for them, I guess... read more

While this store is small and the selection might leave some desiring more, for my needs it is perfect. I come here every week without worry of them being out of anything. The owner is fantastic and super helpful. As a girl, it is important that where I buy my comics is friendly and approachable. This place is both. The store is very nicely kept. Everything is clean and dust free which is impressive in my opinion. The glass displays offer a nice look at rare or expensive figures and lighting is perfect. The walls are lined with retro and new toys and I feel that there really is something for everybody. The comic section is pretty small which may be off putting to hardcore collectors. But if your a toy collector you may enjoy seeing the large selection in person as opposed to simply shopping online. It is true that mostly any toy in stock at Hero HQ can be found online and likely to be cheaper, but if you don't like waiting for things to arrive in the mail or enjoy leaving a store with a product in hand then this may be the place for you. The problem I have is that they advertise as a "buy sell and trade" type of store. As a way to test this I went in on two occasions, once with junk and once with very nice collectibles. My first trip the cashier was polite and honest in stating that I could sell it for more elsewhere (which I appreciated). Yet, the second time I took in very valuable items which they didnt even have in stock and I was offered less than half of what they were worth. They have a habit of saying "these arent worth much, but if you had this then I would offer you MUCH more". I understand the store has to pay employees, rent, taxes and still make a profit, but any self respecting collector (there target consumer) would not be able to cut a deal at this location. It seems like they purchase things very rarely. Clearly its their decision what they choose to buy and how much they want to offer, just dont expect much from them. Im starting to think they just want to get people in the door by offering to buy stuff from them, which may turn out to be a mistake as nerds leave offended vowing never to return. Hero HQ is certainly worth a trip in. The staff are nice, toys are cool, and shopping is pleasant. Save yourself the frustration and sell your unwanted collectibles online. read more
