Cute spot selling acai bowls alongside surf-shop merch! I ordered the Hermosa Bowl, which had great presentation and tasted fresh. One downside is that they only offer an acai. I would've loved more variety, such as pitaya or other fruit bases. It's also quite pricey, with my bowl coming out to almost $20. Still, the adorable atmosphere and overall vibe bump this place up to 4 stars for me.

Delicious Acai bowls in the bird rock area!! This bowl was sooo good, the fruits were so sweet and fresh, the granola tasted homemade. Everything was a 10/10. This place is super cute with all the surfy boards and beach clothes for sale and it's always super packed inside and out with people drinking coffee, smoothies, or eating Acai bowls. I definitely want to go back to try their coffee.

Honestly not that great matcha but such a cute, very sd cafe/ shop with lots of expensive clothing, shoes, etc. Surfer aesthetics. Maybe the smoothies are better cause the "best matcha" latte and hojicha latte were not my favorites in terms of great quality. Hojicha was better though

The cafe is a letdown. The staff was just sitting around on the countertops, and they seemed bothered when people came up to order. The barista who took my order was rude when I asked about his thoughts on the menu, and specifically the matcha. I should have just walked out, but I paid for the overpriced grass water. Took a couple sips and threw it out before I got back to my car. From a retail perspective, Hermosa Surf is solid. Nice selection of merch and surfboards. Great decor throughout the space that gives retro surf vibes.

My friend and I visited to grab some coffee before the beach, but we weren't very impressed with the iced vanilla lattes we ordered. The taste of the coffee was off and wasn't very enjoyable. However, the interior of the cafe was very cute and there's some seating to do work inside. We didn't try anything else on the menu but would definitely pass on their coffee.

I so badly wanted to like this place! (This review is only for their matcha). We visited on a Thursday morning and the line was pretty short. Parking is tough on the main road but theres a bunch of residential side streets. Its a cute little shop with about 3 tables for people to sit at, the rest of the space is a surf shop with apparel and boards. We got an iced matcha and a hot matcha. We were happy to hear all drinks are already made with oat milk. The cashier was very friendly. Unfortunately the matcha fell short. The iced matcha only tasted like oat milk. The hot matcha was much better because I think they added cinnamon and you could taste the matcha a bit more, but nothing memorable.

Great service from the cashier, super friendly! Unfortunately, they were having a technical issue with the blenders today, so we couldn't try the smoothies. We ended up getting coffees and some really good sandwiches instead, highly recommend! I'll definitely be back to try the smoothies and enjoy the sandwiches again.

The best açaí bowls and even better staff. I have a severe nut allergy and the staff were super informative and careful about cross contamination. It's amazing to see the younger generation setting the standard!

I got their citrus sea smoothie, which was very good and I enjoyed the interior and vibe of it all the smoothie had a nice citrus but still sweet flavor it wasn't grainy at all but had a nice smooth texture. The service was good too the person was nice enough to allow me adjust something in the smoothie, they also told me which one didn't contain the ingredient I didn't want which was so nice. The place was also very clean and didn't have any bad smells. Overall everything was enjoyable and I cannot wait to try more of their smoothies.

Do not believe the hype about their drinks! I ordered the butterfly pea matcha which tasted absolutely nothing like matcha or butterfly pea; if anything it just tasted like sugar. Some other people whom I met here also complained that their matcha and coffee drinks were also bad. Definitely not just me... The store is cute and service was fast, but those are the only good things I have to say.

The embodiment of a beach town coffee shop! With an open concept, surfboards lining the wall, and a collection of beachy merch, Hermosa Surf is crossover of a surf shop and a coffee shop. I really enjoy the overall atmosphere and aesthetic of this shop--it's clearly designed with intention, and the interior setup is super visually appealing. It's easy to see why it's become such a popular spot, especially for people in their 20s looking for that perfect, modern coastal vibe. The merchandise is great too--stylish, on-trend, and fits perfectly with the brand they're going for. It's definitely a place you want to take your time browsing. That said, the space is pretty small, and at times it can feel like the staff is watching you while you shop. I completely understand that it comes with the size of the store, but it can make the experience feel a little less relaxed. I do wish there were some outdoor seating or a bit more space to hang out, because the aesthetic really lends itself to that kind of environment. Stopped by this surf shop while browsing for some casual gear and ended up walking out with a Ronan Polo I didn't know I needed. It was on sale, which was already a nice surprise, but the real reason I pulled the trigger was Jack W. He was easygoing, knowledgeable, and had that low-pressure style that makes shopping actually enjoyable. He pointed out the fit and fabric details I would've missed and made sure I got the right size. The store itself has a great beach vibe organized layout, solid mix of surfwear and casual pieces, and prices that don't feel inflated like some coastal shops. They took more than 25 minutes to give us one black coffee, one latte and an Acai bowl. coffee was cold and horrible. They even got the order wrong and gave us two coffees and when as asked for the correct items just poured cold milk over!!!!! Açaí bowl is tiny for a $18 price tag. If they were a little less high they would pay more attention to the customer. read more

My goshhh, I REALLY wanted to like this place. I found it on tik tok and it had high reviews but the service sucked SOO so bad I waited 35 mins for a smoothie. The kids who work here talked to the person in front of me for at least 4 mins after they were already charged, I don't mind the laughter and connecting with customers, I just felt like it was inconsiderate to the line that was forming. I was running to a Pilates class afterwards and I missed the grace period for the class and got charged $14 for my class cancellation fee.. basically the price of the smoothie. The actual smoothie was pretty good, I just wish the service matched up to it. I wouldn't plan to make this a little stop here if you have things to do afterwards but I would come back if I had the time to spare. read more

What a cute place. The customer service was amazing!! The coffee was delicious. I don't remember what the drink we had was called something Frothy it was perfect just the right amount of sweet. Have only come for the smoothies. First time I tried the Bird Rock Banana and it was ok, very heavy for me, but loved the peanut butter pretzel situation. The next time I tried the Early Bird, and it was tops, it hit. I don't know the going rate for smoothies these days, but I think they're getting kind of spendy. Appreciate that there's no added sugar though. read more

Aesthetics: exactly what you'd think of a cool California vibe. Everything is super aesthetically pleasing and perfect for a vibe picture. Matcha: it was very sweet and milky. I'm someone who likes that, but if you like yours more grassy you probably won't like this. Cons: All the things here are really expensive. Definitely has a certain clientele to shop. I felt poor and kind of intimidated. But the cafe has decent prices. I'll likely be back if I'm in the area bc I didn't get a cute enough pic lol and the aesthetic is very me. read more

I was in the area grabbing pastries from Wayfarer Bread and stopped by here. It's a pretty small shop and more for taking out to go than for studying. They sell a lot of materials for surfing, which I thought was pretty cool. We got a matcha from here and another smoothie of sorts. The matcha fell a bit short for me and mostly tasted like milk, but I also prefer drinks that have a stronger tea base so I think it may have just been a personal preference. The other smoothie was alright, pretty creative flavors they have going on here. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our orders out but the staff was very friendly about it and honestly not the biggest deal. Overall, it's a cute little shop in La Jolla with surf-related items. read more

For some reason this place is known for their matcha, but it's simply not good. Don't waste your money just because it's cute looking! I would consider myself a matcha connoisseur, and know what a good matcha consists of, despite what it tastes like, it should have certain aspects like texture, color, and consistency that make it good. They miss on all these levels! Don't get me wrong, it's a cute shop, but don't get the matcha because you saw it was "the best" on TikTok. read more

Probably the worst açaí bowl and berry smoothie I've ever had. Was more of a granola bowl which is fine or whatever but granola was so stale. The acai was all icey which is like bare minimum to make it acai consistency. This place is shit read more

This shop was a great experience! It was quiet but still offered some great drinks! I ordered the iced matcha latte which was perfectly sweetened and by default came with oat milk, making it worth the price. Came here after seeing many posts about how Hermosa Surf has the best matcha. I was highly disappointed. As someone who loves matcha and has tried matcha lattes at cafes all over San Diego, I would not call this matcha one of the best I've had. I could not taste the matcha at all and the latte tasted more like straight soy milk. The regular size was $6.99. The aesthetic and vibe of Hermosa Surf is very fitting for its location. Service was very friendly as well! read more

The young kids working were super chill and helpful. This review is for the older guy. (Not the one with the long hair and beard) Bro made me log back into yelp. Dudes a dick. Zero social skills. Rudely asked if he could help me like it was an inconvenience to him that I wanted to order. Shoulda just left right then and there. He then had no engagement when I was ordering. This store is the outlet edition of their other stores so when we walked in, we saw tons of signs on the racks saying there are sales. Many were worth looking into. I wanted to get a wetstuit for the first time and was guided by the friendly and chill staff on what the differences were between a 4/3 (4mm torso/3mm limbs, better mobility for cool water) and a 5/3 (more core warmth for colder water, slightly stiffer) wetsuit. The prices here are definitely on the pricier side ($200-500), but I was able to get a good 5/3 wetsuit deal for about 120$. I'm excited to try it out. Fittings rooms are reasonable size. I felt like a seal when I was able to fully try one on. Lots of great selections to look at!!! My girlfriend wanted to get a bikini on the sale, but lots of the tops and bottoms were missing each other counterparts.

I bought a pair of black dungaree shorts and they are as nice an' comfy as Levi's, for about $45. They also sell surfboards and ukuleles too. He did half day surf camp for three days. 9-12. I took the days off work to be with him and watch. They provide wetsuits, so helpful. The Surf teachers were all so attentive and I felt safe having him there. It was 4 teachers for 11 kids. I loved hearing the teachers surf lingo. And just hanging out for the mornings with the kids and surf friends. Teachers did a morning stretch and then got them out on the water. My son was catching waves right away. Mid-day they had snack break and made sure to reapply sunscreen. Last day they had a pizza party at the surf shack for all the girls and boys. We also got the carne asada beach bowl, which unfortunately didn't have as much flavor as we had hoped. The portion size was pretty generous and overall the ingredients seemed fairly fresh. My pup usually doesn't like smoked turkey or unfresh meats but she liked this plain roast turkey, which means it's more likely fresh and pass her approval. She also ate the contents of the sandwich sans the bread and onions of course. The oatmeal cookies were a real treat and lived up to the hype, kind of gooey, yummy and good for you...hence oats is fiber! As a cheese aficionado, this shop is not really a cheese shop with no abundant cheese selections. The shop should just be named sandwich shop, since sandwiches and candies seem to be their cash cows. If you're looking for a cheese shop, this isn't the place, but it might the place for a sandwich. Recommend

BJ's kept my reservation. As we arrived we were greeted by the host and immediately sat us down. My party ordered drinks and appetizers. All were being delivered as other people were arriving and ordering. I was happy about our waiter/waitress taking the initiative to handle orders. I wish I knew their names, they were doing a fantastic job! Appetizers, main entrees, pizza, and beverages were all arriving promptly. The quality of food was fantastic. All was delicious. The ambiance was great. We sat at the outdoor patio area. It was a hot day, by 5pm we were feeling the ocean breeze. It was not packed as I expected which came to a big surprise. That made the vibe even better. Clean restrooms is a plus. Plenty of parking, but all is pending on the day of time. We happen to get lucky with available parking. Since it is close to UCSD, this is definitely a spot to host any event. Staff is friendly and professional! Kudos to them. Delicious food and awesome service, exceeded my expectations. I will definitely will be back if I am in the area. Great experience. Thank you!

Hermosa Surf is the next evolution of surf shops. The footprint is so open and inviting. Each surfboard is custom and one of a kind. I grabbed a acai bowl, sat down to watch surf videos on a retro TV and took in the ambiance. I spoke with Tilla about the shop inspiration and design. You can tell he was methodical and passionate with all of his choices. I then spoke to Benny the shaper. He was super friendly and precise about every one of his boards. Overall it was a great experience and I'll be saving up to buy one of Benny's asymmetrical boards. I don't make it through Bird Rock a ton, but when I do, I'll be sure to stop into Hermosa Surf every time! read more
