In my complete lack of knowledge, I called the local Long and McQuade to ask for help in knowing what to do. They were so willing and gracious and were excited to help me on my ongoing quest to fix up all these instruments. Not only that, but one of there repair guys, (his name is Les, ask for him, he knows what he's doing) actually did some of the smaller repairs on some electrics I had, simply out of his own passion for his job (Thanks again man). I have continued to shop there because their is a real sense of community and comradery among them and they are always willing to help me out. Because of their help, I have fixed up these guitars and I am going in with a fresh batch soon to ask for more tips and tricks as well as buy any resources I may need. Our son struggles with staying focused and is not very good at sitting still ;-) But Marya knows how to motivate him and how to make him co-operate. He has learned so much already since working with her. The yearly recitals that the school organize are a perfect moment for parents and family to see what their kids have learned through the year. My son loves showing his skills on the grand piano. Would definitely recommend TSM!

Music Box Academy is a service giving out music tutorials mostly to children. They are situated in…read morethe public market area at the Quay of New Westminster BC. Recently, it opened a studio at an older building in Carnarvon St. New West. Not recommended for children 1. it is located at the public market and children are not safe to be there and strict adult supervision must be available if your are taking your child in there for lessons. Stay within the market area until your child is done. 2. the other place they just opened, was equally unsafe located at an old building with dark rooms in Carnarvon St. 3. the person answering the phone, who said her name is Maria wants to know your personal information first before she gives out any information about Music Box, such as the schedules of the lessons, the fees and the teachers. She says that someone will call back your house, just leave your phone number. 4. Maria says she can't give details about Music Box because she just works there, which does not make sense if you're working on a place, you should be able to give more information. 5. she does not want to be interrupted when she speaks as she asks for your personal information. 6. In both places, the office hours they feature, no one answers the phones At other times, no one is available to take your call. You have to go personally if you happen to meet someone who is not with a student or you send an e-mail and wait for reply. If someone is busy with a student, you have to sit outside at the market and wait for your to get information or wait in your car if you go to Carnarvon St. PARKING: with a fee at the Quay and parking meter fees at the Carnarvon studio. Music Box does not refund parking. I'm not sure that if you are a customer, you'd get a parking discount. I found out there are other places in New West where you can take your child for lessons with competitive price quotes and quality lessons as well, including free recitals and free parking, as well as safe surroundings. Also, those places do not hesitate to give out information and you'll be able to confidently enroll you child which I did. After several weeks of chasing for info. from Music Box, I got to enroll my kid for private lessons at Douglas College Community Music. She's happy, I'm happy and it's worth my money.

Only one piano and it's not the best at all, 3 keyboards but they are alright. Some drums and drumsticks but kind of ugly. They do have a decent collection of guitars though. There were 3 staff speaking amongst themselves at the counter. One guy was playing on a guitar and acknowledging the staff, I patiently walked around the store 3 times to see what else was available. Even to the recording area to look at other items for my studio, I was completely ignored by staff, so I decided to come back to see the same guy playing the same strat with the same riffs, I decided it might have just been someone making a purchase decision but no, he was a staff member...disgusted with this I left with my $2k budget. I did get a have a nice day on my way out, so they get the minimum 1 star. For a place that looked like they had hardly any customers on a weekday, this was shocking. I'd rather drive further for better service.
