I was back in the store today - I clearly don't look like a serious customer because I also didn't get the warmest greeting. But when I looked hopelessly lost both store reps greeted me, and offered help. Today was their busiest day taking in return rentals as school holidays started, my bad for not remembering school is just out. I was there just looking but ended buying my niece her first ukulele on a bit of a budget. These don't come with cases, but Jonathan helped me out. He played several instruments for me, and gave good background on what I was buying. I opted for something I don't think my niece would have chosen for herself and a hard case, which was pricey but for a kid who is clumsy, just perfect. Turns out my niece is absolutely thrilled, and getting a smile out of neuro-divergent teenager is priceless these days. As always - excellent service because I needed a re-string for her left-handed playing. Also some of their music books were on sale, so I picked up a little something for piano to satisfy my own curiosity. Once again Jonathan was particularly helpful because I'm mostly ignorant. This is a seriously good music store - if you just wanna browse and play around then the bigger stores are for you and/or your kids. If you love music, then this place is fantastic. read more

I was expecting better service after reading previous reviews. I brought my son into the Point Grey location to test out and pick a new instrument. we were completely ignored the entire time we were in the store. No hello, no how can we help you..not even a glance in our direction. My son even said hello and didn't receive a response. I went there for help and left feeling unwelcome. read more

My son is taking guitar lessons here with Miri. Two lessons later and he's still excited about learning. Very nice staff as we bought his guitar here too. The guitar did not come with a case so we came back and bought one and the staff member sold one to us for $20! Just cos most guitars come with cases and ours did not. Also the teacher helped us pick out the right guitar for my son. Glad we didn't get the cheapest one they had as it's a toy and sounds like one too. I went to the Tapestry Music in Kitsilano for the first time today. I was looking for some decent ukuleles for my school. The minute I walked in I was greeted by one of the sales reps. I told him this was my first time being in the shop and he said, "Thank you for coming in!" I told him what I was looking for and he took me to the room where all the ukuleles were hanging. None of the ukuleles were locked, so I could pull out any ukulele I wanted to see and try it out. The sales rep brought me a tuner and left me alone to try out all the ukuleles in the room. So I took my sweet time and after about 30-40 minutes decided which ukulele I would like to buy for my school. I wanted 5 tenor ukuleles, but it turned out they had only one in the store. Right away, the sales rep jumped on the phone and called the other stores to see if they had any. He found one more in another store and offered to order the rest. When he found out I was a public school music teacher, he insisted that he introduce me to their school rep for the store. The school rep gave me his business card and told me that he would come pick up any instruments that need repairs from my school when I call. I told the sales rep I would like to have the new ukuleles with the low G string instead of the high G which came with the uke. The sales rep said, "Oh, we are out of the uke strings right now because of the ukulele festival that just happened, but I will change them for you for free when the strings get here." First of all, the Ohana ukulele I found at the store makes beautiful, mellow, warm sound. It is exactly what I was looking for. Their selection is really good and they carry well-made quality ukuleles like Cordoba and Kala. Secondly, their customer service at Tapestry is absolutely wonderful. They gave me just the right amount of attention and allowed me to explore the store comfortably at my own pace. Shopping at Tapestry was pure joy because I felt comfortable asking questions about anything and they tried their best to accommodate my needs. The space reminds me of Northwest Music which is long gone; it is small but warm and inviting. Knowing that they will be treated with respect and appreciation, I will be happy to recommend Tapestry Music to anyone who's looking for musical instruments including my students. And they do have wonderful ukuleles! I feel lucky this little gem is in my hood. Tapestry is going to be my go-to music store from now on. read more
