We were so excited to find somewhere to fix our 2 clocks that were family heirlooms. We didn't even try them to see if they worked before we took them to be serviced. We assumed after being boxed up for years and dirty it would be best to have cleaned and serviced. We were told it would be 6 months before we could get them back and we paid 50% deposit The total cost was very high for both clocks around $1200 but it was worth it to us. When we went to pick up the clocks 6 months later they both were still very dusty and dirty. When I said something the owner then began cleaning. I was told that my cuckoo clock music box couldn't be fixed and they stated our other clock was fixed and working fine. When we brought home and hung up both clocks we discovered cuckoo was getting stuck when coming out and the other clock within 3 hours of hanging up the spring broke. Took the large clock back and we were told they would have to have several more months. They said if the cuckoo getting stuck bothered me I could bring back, which I didn't They fixed the spring and then tried to charge us more, which we refused to pay. Now that clock is not keeping time at all. We decided to contact another clock repair company in Dallas, which is wonderful, they told us you can't just fix a clock without letting it run for a while to be sure it's fixed which these people obviously did not do. I took my cuckoo clock to someone else that fixed the music box and cuckoo as well as polishing and cleaning wood and it's working great. The other clock is still not fixed. These people have a nice store but I absolutely would not take your clocks here to be repaired. We learned our lesson the hard and costly way. Take elsewhere if you need repairs. read more

The folks at Heritage House recommended a courser restoration without detailing because they'd then need to clean up the whole clock to make it blend in. I'm glad I took their advice as the cracks are only visible if you look for them and it has 100% of its charm back. Communication with the staff was easy. Turnaround time was less than a week for this easy job. They also checked the clock mechanism to make sure everything was in order. Their showroom is quite nice based on what I saw. I am marking down to 4/5 because the price was high for what seemed like a quick job, but I would still return because quality and expertise are worth it with antiques. read more

Been there twice in the past six months and was shocked at their pricing for repairs. First trip I was looking at getting a cuckoo clock fixed and was quoted a price for movement replacement that was more than the clock itself even sold for! Second trip, I went in to find out about the cost of cleaning and oiling a movement off of a grandfather clock if I brought just the movement in myself. Was asked what movement it was and was told that I was wrong even though the info given was straight off of the movement itself AND off of the manual. I was then told that it wasn't a grandfather clock movement! When asked for pricing to clean and oil I was told $589!!! Great experience with Heritage House. After some trouble in locating a technician to service a late 18th century clock which had grown cranky, I was referred to Heritage House by a jewelry appraiser I occasionally work with. After I'd rescheduled the first appointment due to a scheduling conflict, they called this morning to confirm our appointment, and showed up right on time. I was surprised at the age of the gentleman who showed up at my door. I was expecting an older gentleman in his 60's or early 70's.. Nick appeared to be in his 30's. I found him to be very polite, personable and informative Both of the clocks are now running after very minor adjustment. I was pleased to see Nick takes a conservative approach of "Everything looks in pretty good shape, let's try this and it should be fine", rather than using the opportunity to greatly upsell their much more costly off-site maintenance services. So.. all in all, while I'm certainly no expert, I'm pleased. read more

My request to have timing regulators (2) repaired or replaced on an Urgos grandfather clock movement was not as simple as I first expected. This movement has been obsolete for a while and replacement parts were impossible to find. An attempted fix using glue ended up with chimes that rang WAY too fast, a subsequent attempt still resulted in chimes that were not befitting a grandfather clock. They never gave up at Heritage House and Val found a shop that could rebuild the mechanism! My clock is once again perfect and it's only due to their perseverance and dedication to getting customer satisfaction. read more

I, too, just had a surprising experience at Heritage. I took in a battery operated clock that needed a new screw (handshaft, I believe) to hold the hands apart and allow them to move past each other. The gentleman had the part on hand, unscrewed the old handshaft then put the new one on (in a matter of less than a minute) and told me the charge would be $45.27. I can appreciate that all parts cost something and that his time is valuable, but this price absolutely shocked me! When I questioned him, the response was "that's what we charge." No apology, no empathy, no explanation. The woman in line behind me was equally shocked and said, "I wouldn't pay it either!" I walked out and won't be returning. read more

I have a 20 year old cuckoo clock bought in Germany. It was keeping perfect time but the cuckoo and music box no longer worked. I went online and the nearest authorized service center was a 3 hour drive and didn't take mail in repairs. I learned about Heritage house from a friend and took the short drive to their store. I was greeted by the owner who quickly suspected my problem was something blocking the chime silencing lever from working properly. It took him about 30 seconds to remedy the problem and he sent me on my way with a cheerful smile. You don't see such friendly, knowledgeable and courteous people very often. Not a good repair location. They charged me for a cleaning and wood repair to glue a few accent pieces back on. When I came to pick it up, The clock was as dusty as it had been when I took it in and they clearly had not looked at it after getting it back from whomever they outsourced repairs to. The clock key did not fit and the back wood panel was still loose. Dust was everywhere. I paid over $500 for a cleaning alone and there was still heavy dust on it like when I dropped it off. My definition of "cleaning" obviously was not the same as theirs. I got an apathetic and defensive response when I kindly voiced my concerns and pointed out my findings. I would recommend you get a very clear understanding of what your money will get you prior to leaving a clock for repair. read more

In 1972 my Grandmother bought a Beautiful Grandfather clock for, well, my Grandfather. Living and growing up around them, and thus the clock, I remember the sound of the ticking and the quarterly chimes event 40 years later. Time flies (pun intended) and my Grandparents passed leaving the clock sheltered, but unused. I obtained the clock and after much searching ran across Heritage House. This has proven to be a great decision. Family owned and operated, the whole experience felt more like releasing this inherited clock to just another family member. The owners scheduled pick up date and time and arrived just as scheduled. The turn around was estimated at about 60 days. Again, the clock was returned today, about 60 days later just as promised. It was set up quickly and tips on how to keep it synced and running was discussed by the son who brought it. I was so impressed by their professionalism and depth of knowledge on clocks, I have sent another very old clock with them and have three more in line waiting. I will trust Heritage House and their "family" to all my clocks going forward and highly recommend them to anyone with antique time pieces. I mean, you can't trust family with just anyone, right? Just moved to Dallas last week, and my grandfather clock was set up by movers, who charged $115 to unpack and restart it. I moved to my new home a few months ago and regardless of how many times I tried to level my grandfather clock hoping that would resolve the issue I could not get it to operate for more than a few hours. Victor quickly identified that it had not been oiled in quite some time and within minutes had it up and running. Over and above just servicing the clock, he informed me that I made a wise decision in that the Honduran Mahogany wood in my clock is no longer available as it is an endangered species, that the company that manufactured it was one of the very best manufacturers at the time but has since been bought out, and the inner workings of my clock were by a German manufacturer named Kieninger, one of the finest quality names in its field. Bottom line, my purchase of this $3500 clock in 1987 is now worth 4-5 times that value at the right auction with knowledgeable buyers, and even though I would never sell this clock, I now know that my insurance policy needs to reflect its higher value. This demonstrates that the family owners at Heritage House really know their business, and his educating me about my clock's current value was worth so much more than just the service call cost to repair it. My clock is humming away perfectly since he visited. I very highly recommend Heritage House for serving your timepiece needs.
