Baked goods

This bakery has been on my list of spots to try since I've walked past it many times and it usually seems pretty busy. I'd give it an another shot if I was in the area and try a couple different pastries. Located on 40th Street across the street from the south edge of Bryant Park, it's been around for a few years and serves a variety of breads, pastries, coffee and tea drinks, chilled take away foods like salads and sandwiches. On a frigid day with negative windchill, many other stores were closing up early and a fair number of passers by flocked inside here to escape the arctic temps, looking for a warm drink or treat. Upon entering the staff were quick to acknowledge most visitors, and asked if I needed help or knew what I wanted to order. I needed a few minutes to decide so let some other customers go first. I thought about the kouign amman or pistachio cruffin which both looked good and had positive reviews though finally went with the apple tart $5.50. Staff asked if I'd like it warmed up which I appreciated, after toasting in the oven it was hot and the pastry shell was lightly crispy on top. I do wish there was a bit more pastry as the part under the apples was quite thin, and the apples were also cut quite thinly. For those ordering drinks, they carry a couple alt milks, I believe almond and oat if I recall correctly for an extra surcharge. Their chai is from a premade concentrate (it's hard to find a real one unless you go to a proper chai bar). Seating is a handful maybe 5-6 seats along the back of the bakery, pretty tight, so not a place to linger long. Didn't notice a bathroom.

Vanilla Cruffin

I have eaten many a Cronut and muffins but today was my first taste of a Cruffin. I chose the vanilla cruffin at Heritage Grand Bakery this morning. Despite having eaten a small breakfast, I still felt hungry. As I was going to work for the day and passed by this bakery I decided to try it. It's often difficult for me to pass by a bakery when the pastries are in full view. Of course I could have averted my head but I am not a saint. When I cut the cruffin it had vanilla cream inside. The flavor was muted and next time I should try the pistachio cruffin. The display case was brimming with all kinds of viennoiseries and pastries that definitely look tempting. Yusuf helped me and he was efficient.

Nice bakery near Bryant park. The cheese roll was yummy and definitely had a healthy whole grains flour taste. I also really enjoyed the pistachio cruffin. Not too sweet and packed with cream. Service was amazing.

Matcha Latte and Ham & Cheese Pinse

My kid says she had the BEST Matcha she's ever had here (and we try different coffee shops and bakeries all the time), and my Oat Milk latte was amazing. And the food?! We had a ham and cheese Pinse (sp?) and a pistachio Cruffin and a cheese stick and... I could have tried everything in the case! It's just a really high quality eatery. I can't wait to return!

Great desserts. We shared a decadent chocolate cake. Bathroom next to Bryant Park Christmas Market. No lines.

I stopped to grab some food early afternoon. The tuna Nicoise on sour dough bread was wholesome, fresh and tasty with the capers giving it a tangy kick. It is an unexpectedly filling and generous sandwich! I just loved it. The server behind the counter was most helpful, carrying my coffee to the bar high seat. It was a full house, packed but warm and upbeat.

Wild mushroom pizza

3 of us met for Saturday brunch. Each of us ordered something different: eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, wild mushroom pizza and chicken BLT. While the waiter was friendly, he never came to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. When we finally decided to pay, he didn't show us the check. When we asked to split the check, he said that's fine but wanted to wait for the third person to return from the bathroom, because she needed to add tip to close out tab. Huh??!! I told him he could start with the 2 of us and she'd be back by the time it got to her. He said no, he needed to wait. Huh??? Then when she came back, he started with our charges anyway! D'uh

Came here for a quick breakfast when I had some alone time in the city. The ham and cheese quiche was 10000% better than I expected it to be, amazing, definitely opt to heat it up. The lemon poppyseed muffin was good as well. I ate them both at Bryant Park. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. The restaurant itself was nice and quiet, decent amount of seating.

My partner and I came in here because the pastries look SO GOOD. The queue is pretty fast moving once you enter. We got multiple things: pistachio cronut, praline bliss chocolate cake, pistachio financier, hot chocolate and a drip coffee. The pastry and the baked goods very really good. I'd rank these (1) praline bliss, (2) cronut and (3) financier. The drinks on the other hand were bad. The hot chocolate was not hot and extremely sweet. It tasted like cheap cocoa mix. The drip coffee was very watery as well. The price range is a lil high but very typical for the location. I'd recommend sticking to the baked goods and sweet treats only.

Spooky breads!

I'm keen to find great bakeries wherever I go, so this was a very welcome find only a few blocks from my hotel. So nice I went here twice, in fact. The pastries really are to die for. They're so luscious. I had one of their pistachio cruffins, a quiche, some of their cheese sticks, and the pastry with chocolate and custard (sorry, I've forgotten the name.) All of it was delicious. I sat just across the way in the park and enjoyed the scenery while I ate. A perfect little spot to take a moment for yourself.

This is my go to bakery while in nyc. So many options, and the many times that I have gone and brought friends and tried new things, I have not had a single thing that is not absolutely delicious. Always so friendly and I love that they have seating in the back as well as restrooms. Definitely check this place out!

Heritage has delicious baked goods. The coffee, however, was disappointing. The beans tasted burnt and stale. The place itself is cute and cozy. I wish they had more sitting and tables.

Very good bakery! I loved their vanilla and pistachio cruffins - very delicious, they put just enough cream in those! Also enjoyed their chocolate eclair, Montebello is a nice gluten free dessert. Vanilla millefeuille reminded me of napoleon cake, tender and not too sweet. Overall, enjoyed everything! I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves sweets

I got the market salad with grilled chicken which was very filling and packed with flavor. The grilled chicken was an add on so cost a little bit more than $25 but still an amazing deal. 10/10 recommend!

Think vintage wallpaper, little knick-knacks, and warm lighting. It's got character. I ordered the market salad with mixed greens, honeycrisp apples, goat cheese, candied pecans, and sherry vinaigrette. It was a hearty portion - super fresh and flavorful, and honestly more than I could finish (not a complaint!). I also ordered a Diet Pepsi with grenadine; they don't carry Diet Coke, which I almost docked a point for, but the mix was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend it. My date ordered the hanger steak and said it was absolutely amazing. Only hiccup: his first glass of wine he got came out hot... like, microwave-level warm. Fortunately, the server brought a new (cold) one and the rest of the meal was smooth sailing. Service was friendly, the vibe was homey and relaxed, and the food was solid across the board. Would definitely come back, especially for that salad and another round of grenadine magic.

Sarge’s Delicatessen & Diner - Corned beef and pastrami

After a weekend of rich, indulgent meals, we were looking for something a little more…read morestraightforward and comforting. We also wanted to try a classic pastrami on rye--but without committing to the long lines at Katz's Delicatessen. Sarge's ended up being the perfect alternative, just a quick five-minute walk from our hotel. We arrived around 5:00 pm on a Sunday and were seated right away, which already felt like a win. The meal started with coleslaw and both a half sour and full sour pickle--such a classic deli touch, and a great way to kick things off. I ordered the half sandwich with matzah ball soup, and the portion sizes were no joke. The soup alone could have been a full meal: a huge bowl with an equally massive matzah ball. The broth was warm and soothing, and the matzah ball was incredibly light with a perfect texture. The half pastrami on rye was just as impressive. Even "half" was stacked high with flavorful, tender pastrami. Adding a bit of mustard from the table brought everything together--it was simple, classic, and exactly what I was hoping for. Not only was it one of the more reasonably priced meals of the trip, but it was also genuinely satisfying. If you're looking for a no-fuss, traditional deli experience without the wait, Sarge's is a great option.

Service was so bad she deserved no tip whatsoever. On top of that, the food was overpriced and nowhere near worth the attitude.
