We paid a $1,200 design fee, and after six months--only after we had repeatedly asked for our money back--we finally received renderings and a layout that essentially copied a design we had already created ourselves using free online software and had provided to them three months earlier, so this was incredibly disappointing. Since then, we've done our own research and found several other reputable kitchen and bath designers in the Denver area who offer an initial design, budget estimate, and timeline before requiring any payment. Often being able to provide an initial design within 2 weeks. That level of transparency and professionalism made us realize how far off our experience here was. This was a very nice collaborative process, where we talked about appropriate overhangs, and how to deal with window trim that might be in the way. Templating took all 20 minutes. Within a week, we had the countertops installed, and sink mounted. They were very considerate to ask us about noise levels, since they knew we had a toddler that napped around the install time. Install was less than an hour, and it looks perfect! Just all around very professional and wonderful folks.

Kitchen Renovation - January-April 2023…read more Deciding to do a full kitchen renovation on our 1885 brick bungalow was an exciting decision for my wife and I to make after purchasing the home in the spring of 2022. With the current supply chain issues and labor shortages we knew that choosing the correct design/build firm was going to be the most important factor in this process for a successful outcome. During our initial meetings with Gina and Jamin (the Colorado Homes and Design/Earth Saving Solutions team) we quickly confirmed that we had chosen the right firm. As a retired executive chef, I had very specific requirements for our new kitchen. Gina took those ideas and presented us with a thoughtful design that incorporated an efficient layout with the premium materials we requested. As the project progressed we were very impressed with the emphasis on quality craftsmanship that Jose (project lead) and his team put into every aspect of our renovation, always making the extra effort to get it exactly right. This is a company that works together as a team to make the entire process as easy as possible for the homeowner and I truly cannot recommend them enough. We have an 1800s bungalow with a ton of quirks and their collective efforts made our dream kitchen a reality in a way we were told wasn't possible by other designers and contractors. From the first meeting with Jamin and Gina I could just tell that this was exactly the type of company we needed to do our kitchen renovation. Gina, our wonderful designer, worked closely with me to provide multiple iterations of the design and cabinet options until we landed on our perfect kitchen design. She also did such a great job exactly identifying our style and helping select materials that matched with it perfectly. She went above and beyond in her communication with us and was always so kind, understanding and willing to pivot and adjust as we worked through all the design steps together. Jamin did an excellent job ensuring there was a clear through line between the design and then actually being able to make it happen. His title says sales but he really is a man who does it all and thinks about every part of the process. From making sure I was clear on the impact that moving the plumbing would have on a wall downstairs to literally getting in there and fixing a plumbing issue upstairs that, had he not identified the problem, could have caused my entire kitchen downstairs to be ruined by a flooded upstairs bathroom. And to be clear, the upstairs bathroom was not at all a part of the kitchen work but is a great example of how this company will go above and beyond. Brian, our project manager, held our hands through the entire process and made it so that anytime an issue would arise we could breath easy knowing that somehow he would magically just take care of it. I can't even imagine the amount of hours he put in working with the various contractors and subcontractors that came through our house and triple checking to make sure everything was exactly what we had planned for in the design. We never once had to take off from work to meet with someone because Brian did it all and we just got to come home at the end of the day and see the amazing work that Jose, the main contractor, and his team had done. Brian kept us in the loop with constant communication over text which was perfect for our busy work schedules and always put us at ease. I can't count the number of times I told someone how little stress I felt because I knew Brian would handle everything... which he always did! As for cost, CHD/ESS was so willing to work with me to get what I wanted on my budget. They gave me honest opinions and options but never pushed a product because it was a higher cost. It was clear they really wanted to do right by me and had a high level of integrity in determining what would work with my budget. They were transparent with every line item which is not something that all companies do. We will definitely be using this fabulous team again if we ever decide to do more work in the future. If you want a full service company that will make the remodel process easy and the end product perfect, call this team!

The customer service and level of…read morecare Lilly and the Thurston team demonstrated was by far the most exceptional care I have ever experienced ever working with anyone. Lilly came out to inspect the install of our vanity and found several issues with the way my contractor (who was not one of their installers), installed the vanity. She immediately got to work identifying the issues, finding ways to make it right and making sure it was the finished product was up to Thurston's high quality standards. They had one of their own installers come out within a tight deadline to fix things before the countertops were measured. I was blown away by the care they showed on helping fix the issues my contractor created. Additionally, I think Thurston's pricing, selection and design are top quality. Lilly is also a gifted designer and I relayed on her opinion and expertise to help guide my selection. So often times, I find reps at other home stores are just interested in closing deals quickly and moving onto the next client. Not Lilly or the Thurston team. I know this wasn't a huge project for her but she treated my project with the same level of care and detail as someone doing their entire home. I won't go anywhere but Thurston moving forward and will tell all my friends the same. It was really an exceptional experience.

Save yourself from a money pit and prolonged headache and choose anyone else for your next kitchen…read moredesign. Here is a short list of grievances from our experience going with a full design with Thurston totaling over $60k. 1. They must have a deal with 3rd party contractors, which means you will pay a boatload for counter top install, appliance install, cabinetry install, and glass if you let them choose the installer. These extras cost us an extra $3k and would have been $10k more if I didn't have a competent cabinet installer ready to do the work for 1/5 the price. 2. Our kitchen took 3 counter top slabs to fully cover (yes, very big) but there were ample "scrap" pieces we didn't receive without multiple phone calls and two deliveries to ultimately get the leftovers. We paid for the full slabs and specified we wanted the leftovers for our own projects, yet had to chase this service down. Ultimately, several of the scrap pieces were thrown out so we did not get what we wanted nor paid for. 3. We started design and were told a 6-8 week design and delivery for our kitchen cabinets. The design was very slow in the beginning. We would meet on site and hear nothing until the next week. This caused design to take over 4 weeks, and that was before the cabinetry could be ordered. Thus when the cabinets were orders and came 6 weeks later, we were basically 10 weeks into a process that we felt could easily have been expedited in the beginning. 4. At install, a panel was missing, the vent hood was improperly sized and configured, the design install sheets were poorly labeled, and the measurement for a cabinet was wrong, thus had to be fixed onsite to fit. For the cost of paying Thurston as a general contractor, they sure got a lot wrong and were slow to fix the issues. Also, the vent motor was reordered twice because the first replacement was incorrect, so we went 3 weeks without a vent hood for the stove. 5. Payments were confusing. We were not given clear dates for payment. I don't know many people that have $20-$30k ready for payment, so we were delayed again on ordering cabinets because we had to take several days to get the money available. This was just poor customer service. 6. Lastly, I aired all my grievances listed above and spoke to the manager as well as the regional manager for Thurston. I was given an apology and offered to go get additional scrap from the counter top dealer which I had agreed to. I got no followup after that call and still don't feel I was given any consideration after this lip service.
