This particular location had been a Longs for years and years. I'd say both stores are pretty similar although carpeting dominates CVS stores. This store is located in uptown Santa Barbara. It's not the closest drug store to my home, but it's most definitely the cleanest. I have no problem driving a few extra miles to shop here as it's tidy, well-stocked, and fresh in general. I was in here today to rent a Rug Doctor machine. There is one main checkout line which branches out to multiple open registers. When I was there today, there were two open registers and I'll admit that there was a bit of a line. When I went up to the cashier, I expected some sort of attitude as the Rug Doctor rental process is a bit time-consuming (and frankly not the best use of time when there's a line). I received the opposite reaction from Nancy, the cashier. She was so pleasant and calm, fully focusing on me and not trying to rush me out of the store. Certainly not the type of service I'm accustomed to while renting one of those machines so today was a welcomed change. Kudos to Nancy! I will be back soon.

It was barely 545am and the line was slowly getting longer and longer down the aisle. I was surprised they only had 1 cashier available. Dory worked calmly, quickly and efficiently, unlike the female manager (I think) seemed bewildered and very stressed when a customer kindly asked if they had toilet paper. They didn't have toilet paper but they had some facial tissue that people were buying. They also were restocking on water, they still had a lot of items.

They said that they had the ice cream to purchase in the frozen food section and also hand served cones. Bingo!!! Ice cream for breakfast.....yes please!!!!! So many choices, I got two cones for myself, one at a time. Pistachio and Butter Pecan. Smooth. The best!!!! The cashier was so friendly. I switched all my business to CVS. Over the last several years, CVS gets busier and busier and the lines get longer. Meanwhile, Rite Aid has had a major remodel and looks like it's always empty. So, a month ago, I wasn't able to book a same-day appt for a CVS flu shot and since I was up there anyway, I asked if it would be possible to get one. The attendant at the counter told me she'd have to ask the pharmacist and wait. I watched her help the next 2 people in line and then ask the CVS pharmacist. It was easy to read the pharmacist's lips when he spoke to the counter worker. "Who is it?" he asked, adding "we've already got some vaxxers waiting." She indicated my husband and me and he looked over at us and sneered "No" as he looked us up and down like a Studio 54 bouncer. So, we hopped in the car and drove across the street to Rite Aid, where we walked right in and got 2 flu shots without waiting or being sneered at. I'm thinking of switching our pharm biz back to Rite Aid.

If I treated a client, patient or customer like that I would be written up or fired. Maybe they could use emotional regulation training. I can imagine it is challenging when customers want an rx (such as a controlled substance) early. But just tell that in a calm manner.
