My family bought various instruments for twenty years from Henson's Music Store in Camarillo, CA. We always loved this family owned music store because of the loving care we received. My four older children developed a lifelong passion for band and music because of this lovely store. Henson's family run music store is deeply missed in Camarillo. The Camarillo music store staff helped my four children survive and thrive after the death of a sibling. Music helped my surviving children so much! Music can be so healing. Music helps students academically in math and reading and to focus well when children play instruments beginning in fourth grade or sixth grade through twelfth grade. Playing in band or orchestra helps students be organized and concentrate. it improves self esteem too. Again, music helped to save my four surviving children emotionally. Thank you to the wonderful Henson family! It is truly rare to find such knowledgeable and caring staff in a special family music store. There are many young sales people at other music stores who seem to lack the ability to care about other human beings or develop any concern to learn much about instruments. It appears to be just a job for these sales people. So, it is such a blessing to know Lisa at Henson's Music Center in Oxnard who absolutely understands customer's needs and has excellent values to help them continue loving music. Came in here yesterday since I will start my first year of teaching at a local elementary school next week and needed some instruments. My goal is to engage my young students with the aid of music. The staff was friendly and allowed me "play" some of their smaller instruments. I purchased a beautiful blue ukulele, a tiny golden shaker egg, and a pair of drumsticks. I have had 22 years of wonderful experiences with Henson's. I bring my clarinet in annually for "check ups" and anytime I have a mechanical problem. Yesterday, I messed up my clarinet by over-tightening a screw which made the clarinet was unplayable and I have a concert to play in 5 days. My clarinet was fixed overnight and they took the time to explain to me what i had done wrong and how to avoid problems like this in the future. I took my Fender Strat into Henson's music for some work cause I was recommended this place by another musician. I needed new tuners, pickups, and all electronics installed (which I supplied). As well as a guitar set up. WOW. Ben's workers all seem like very nice people, but Ben straight up f****d my guitar! -He forgot that I needed all new potentiometers AFTER I drving an hour to pick it up, and AFTER all my pickups and everything were put on top. I PAID him to do that and didn't do it. So I brought it back. Another hour of driving. Meanwhile I wait in the shop for 2 hours while he works on it. When he brings it out, all of a sudden my brand new middle pickup is NOT working, which is an expensive handmade Lindy Fralin pickup. He removed a function from my volume knob (deluxe American strat has all these extra functions), but he ASSUMED that was okay. To make his job easier? I don't know. And the worst part, the volume knob takes my guitar from volume 10 down to 9. It rotates the whole circle, but the volume hardly decreases. I can't turn my volume all the way down. Only thing he did a good job at was installing my damn tuners. Which is something I could have done myself. -Terrible guitar set up, my 12th fret notes are almost a quarter step flat. -Now my middle pickup, which I bent over backwards for, does not work. -Volume knob which is for some reason raised super high, higher than I've ever seen, doesn't work even though he "installed" a new potentiometer. -Forgot to do what I paid him to do. Or maybe he sneakily thought I wouldn't notice that I wanted new potentiometers?? At the end of it all, he rants to me how his son tours with Alanice Morisette and that my guitar has too many functions and that I'm a try hard for making my guitar sound good with new pickups. Henson's music store has recently proved to be one of the worst experiences I've had as a customer, including online shopping, restaurants, AND concerts. I shopped at this music store for my first saxophone as a junior high student, saxophone supplies, guitar equipment, etc. "on and off" throughout the years--usually when paying more for musical products didn't seem as bad as driving a little extra to other stores. Henson's has a decent variety of products and services for a small shop; the prices are usually something extra. The location in Oxnard looks neat and comfortable, but most of the employees have that "couldn't care less" attitude, whether you're phoning in with a question or asking about products while you're shopping in person. My brother recently took in my acoustic guitar for a simple, minor job--regluing the bridge--which involves a bit of sanding, a bit of gluing, and drying. $54! I figured, that's okay, they're a local business. My brother was told that they would call me when the job was done; I called the next day, asking for an approximation. The "guitar tech" wasn't in, so I left my information for a callback the next day. The next day passed and no call. I happened to be in the area the day after the no-call so I popped in. Another employee (looked like the owner and his wife) said the guitar tech would be in on Monday (it was a Friday), so, again, info for a callback. Monday came but no call; Tuesday came and no call, still. Yes, the gross unprofessionalism is upsetting! My guitar is in the mix, for Bob's sake! What musician doesn't love their instruments like they would their children?! What is more upsetting is that, throughout the years, I was fond of this local shop, despite the prices, and that this kind of attitude and work ethic is condoned by Henson's. In short, Henson's is a bit overpriced. Because of the poor customer service, I strongly suggest you avoid this store for repairs and if you want to keep your good mood! I wish somebody had warned me about Henson's wrath! read more
