The oxanard location is the Worst guitar center I've ever had to deal with. They told us to bring our amps in, so we went back home and carried the heavy amp speakers over the next day and the guy tells us they Don't have room and Don't want them all the sudden. the pa amps were in good shape and were in good condition and they wasted our time. This isn't the first time they disappointed us with poor customer service. This will be the last time my family deal with them at this guitar center because they have the worst customer service I've seen and I'm telling everyone I know to never go to this awful location. read more

I was looking for a good PA set up and wireless microphones for my daughter. It can be quite confusing on what to buy the quality and price. I traveled from Santa Barbara to Oxnard (35 miles) to test drive a Tone King Gremlin amp. Spoke with Jacob (at GC) before I traveled there to confirm it was in stock. Upon arrival, I waited 15 minutes for Jacob to show. Waited another 10 minutes until he allowed me to test the amp. Loved it and was ready to buy. Waited next to the register for another 15 minutes as Jacob just ignored me. Got tired of that and left. This again confirms why I buy everything at Sweetwater. GC is simply useless. read more

AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE! I ordered a guitar online for pick up - last minute Christmas gift for my son. When I arrived, the store was BUSY. I was greeted, asked how they could help, my order was brought up and they even took the time to do a demo (of the floor model) guitar I had purchased. Showed me around, made recommendations for accessories, it was a great experience - even with the holiday craziness, they took time and I appreciate that so much. I got home and inspected the guitar and there was a significant natural flaw in the wood grain on the face of the guitar. The guitar was not damaged, but the grain made it look like there was a big dent in the front. I called the shop, spoke to Michael, he was immediately apologetic and said they would exchange it no problem. He took the time to double check to make sure they hade one in stock and set it aside for me. When I arrived, Isaac/Isaiah(? sorry!), helped me with the exchange and Jake (who'd helped me and answered 1000 questions the night before), came over to check and make sure everything was ok. I work in retail and this level of customer service, especially during the last days of the holiday rush, is exceptional!!!! This store has so many fun instruments to play, I could get lost in there for hours. So many great gifts for any music lover ! Not just instruments but cool band merch. Like calendars, coasters, socks, mugs etc. I was helped by Blake; I could really tell he knew his stuff about guitars. Very informative and great customer service ! I picked his brain on some things, and he definitely knew what he was talking about. I learned a-lot. The acoustic guitar rooms are my personal fav. set back and away with closing doors... gives you a nice " I'm alone with just me, myself and I and this guitar" vibe. Diego went above and beyond in providing me great customer service. I came in on a Sunday afternoon to get help purchasing and setting up a pedal board. I am a woman who doesn't know about pedals, and I can't say that I went into a Guitar Center expecting the patience, time, and respect that I received, but it turned out to be a great experience. Diego spent the better part of 2 hours helping me test various pedals, as well as assembling my pedal board for me. I would also like to add that I am 34 and frankly not that attractive so I think Diego was genuinely coming from a place of good customer service here. My band Sister Fit thanks him for his help. Periodically, I called them with guitar repair or guitar purchase inquiries. Not once have I ever had them say that they had the answer, or would be willing to find the answer out for me. It's like they are programmed to immediately say, "I don't know and I don't know who would" or "We don't do that and I don't know who would." Maybe it's in the employee handbook. read more

Wow. This played rocks. Haha Kinda hidden behind all the car dealerships in Oxnard. Looks can be deceiving, looks dark and closed from the outside but it's pretty spacious on the inside. The guys are all helpful and make sure you have been helped if hey see you standing looking lost Daniel offered us information on their on going classes. Great deals without being pushy which I appreciated. My kiddo was helped by Felipe, who was knowledgeable about the instruments without being a snob and encouraging about learning, he actually made my teenager smile. Way to go, Felipe. What my son wanted was available only through their website, so he was able to order it quick and easy. They offer 1-1 classes in a sound price room and they allow you to pick any of the guitars on the wall to practice on. Cool. read more

Understaffed, dirty restrooms, disorganized merchandise, unkept store ... this place was a total wreck. While I was there the phone rang nonstop for 20 min and no one bother to answer it. They had like 5 staff members; 2 working and 3 watching them work. Every question we asked was answered with a please "don't bother me" attitude. The culture that thinks "we are the only game in town" is evident. Believe it or not, Circuit City used to think like that at a point and time. read more

As a followup to my review regarding my recent activity at Guitar Center in Oxnard.... I was contacted monday evening (5/16/22) by phone from the general manager at GC. It was a fairly lengthy conversation and while I won't go into every detail, he agreed that yes, they should have honored the price the item was marked at regardless of anything else, it should have never even been a question. I was offered a new MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive Pedal at no charge. I thanked him for the offer and responded that I was not looking, nor wanted, anything out of the situation except for the used EVH pedal at the $86 price it was marked. After a few more minutes chatting I finally let him twist my arm into accepting his offer to send me a new pedal at their expense and nothing more. I received the pedal on 5/19/22. I am very pleased that someone there took the time to call and chat with me at length about the situation and for that, I thank them. read more

Go elsewhere. I'm a big fan of Guitar Center, just not This location. The store is a mess, and you are neglected. No one is there to help you. I was hoping to test some speakers before purchasing them. I was trying to figure out the wiring myself to listen to them but no luck. This is the second time I had this experience, so I rather shop online at sweetwater or zzounds, which is what I did. I wouldn't be surprised if this place shuts down. read more

I felt the need to share my experience that I had recently when attempting to sell a guitar at this specific Guitar Center. I've sold two guitars to this store within the year and have had nothing but great things to say. However, this time was quite the contrary... I entered the shop roughly three hours prior to closing and informed the gentleman working at the front that I had a guitar I was looking to sell. I was told that this would take 30-45min and required I had my I.D. Being familiar with the process, I responded, "that's totally fine, take all the time you need." This is when things went awry.. The initial salesman had issues finding the guitar online to look for comparable aftermarket pricing. I provided a link to the Guitar Center page for the exact guitar which also contained a used listing sold at another Guitar Center. The employee called over his colleague for assistance in quoting a price, then another employee tagged in on the fun. By this time I had 3-4 employees looking at my guitar. "Theres some fret buzz." "Wow, good catch" "Wheres the hard case?" "Were you looking to buy anything as well?" "Oh my goodness, i'm no guitar tech or expert but there is some issues with the neck of this guitar" "I would need for my tech to take a look at this before i'd consider buying this" "So you dont have a case for it?" "Yeah id only be able to sell it for this price man" "Oh my guitar tech isn't in until later this week, sorry" Knowing the specifications and the condition of the guitar, I just knew there were no issues with the neck. Not once was the guitar plugged in or played. Not once was a relief gauge or straightedge used to check the neck. It was simply checked by looking down the neck in a dark store with a naked eye, by one person. I was told the guitar tech would be in later in the week and I could return. Is there no one in the store capable of performing a legitimate inspection? I thanked them for their time and inspected the guitar myself in the parking lot and sure enough the guitar neck was straight and true. With the material used for the truss rods and the neck radius, it's just not possible for the naked eye to see any of these issues that were mentioned. It honestly made it feel as if the employees didn't want to go through the process of buying a guitar. Feedback: - Don't actively scrutinize a guitar and compliment employees for finding "issues" in front of the customer that is looking to sell. - If there are issues, do a proper inspection and bring them forwards afterwards. - Don't crowd the customer with several employees, 1:1 should be the interaction. - Play the guitar, plug it in, show me what issues you happen to see. - Bring in the two extremely helpful employees that pull you to quiet area, talk to you about the guitar, play it and come up with a quote. Then talk to their manager have them look at it and come up with a proposal/appraisal that everyone can agree on. (this was my experience the last two times). I rarely ever write reviews but this honestly just left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I went to replace some strings on my guitar as I recently started taking guitar lessons. I'm a newbie to guitars - anything musical really - and I was a bit nervous going into a store I didn't know much about. I walked in and absolutely nobody greeted me. The store didn't appear to be that big. I stood at a little counter in which it said guitar repairs or something like that, waiting for someone to come or at least be acknowledged. I stood there for a little under 5 minutes before giving up and leaving. I really hope this place gets their act together and actually *helps* customers. I ended up going to Instrumental Music Company in Ventura. Fantastic service. I hope at least one person reads this review, avoids going to Guitar Center, and heads to Instrumental Music Company. read more

Very slow and lack of care in the store. the only helpful workers are the repair techs but besides them, it'll take 30 minutes to ring up a thing of strings or help with a trade-in. The various Guitar Centers across So. Cal and around the country all pretty much have the same interior design and generalized vibe. Commonly, when you walk in you hear a lot of young people playing guitars, (that they cannot afford), badly. :-) That is just the nature of the beast. When I was fifteen I used to go into the one on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood and do the same thing. It's a place to fantasize and reach for your dreams. This Guitar Center is no different. What makes the various Guitar Center locations different is not only their staff but what they have to offer the customer who is actually there to buy something. This location, though not as big, in terms of square footage, as some of the other ones around So. Cal., is well-stocked with both new and used equipment. Also, essential to a good Guitar Center experience is the staff. The staff at this location is very nice. In fact, when I went in to buy a guitar yesterday I threw out the question, "Can you hook me up with any discounts?" Though they initially said that they could not, a few minutes later, as the employee who was actually helping me went to the back to get the case for the guitar I was to purchase, the manager called me over and said he could take off $100.00. Can't ask for anything more than that! Good selection of equipment. Nice staff. Good location. Recommended. read more

I mean... it's guitar center. I'm afraid they may be dying a slow death due to online shopping like most of these types of spots that used to be the go to place. I truly don't want to see them take the fate of Circuit City or Tower Records but I'm afraid they may not have much left in them. This particular store is cool enough. They might have what you need but there's an even chance they don't. We need these places for those moments when you can't wait for delivery. As soon as those amazon drones are released, I'm pretty certain many of these types of stores will come to their final end. The staff is friendly though not everyone is very knowledgeable. This would be fine if they were honest enough to say "I don't know" but it sucks when you trust they do only to get home and realize they don't. read more

Wow! This visit changed my entire view of Guitar Center!!! I've never been inside one and was planning on buying a Digital Piano from Amazon. However, my girlfriend wanted to try the pianos first, so she suggested (er insisted) that we head to Guitar Center. Our daughter played the pianos, guitars, drums, and with the DJ equipment while mom spent 3-4 hours evaluating pianos. Anyway, the staff were amazing!!! They greeted us warmly, sweetly assisted us (we left 4 times while debating the potential purchase and returned each time), they had all kinds of patience with us and were so kind about ensuring our daughter had fun with dad so mom could focus on the purchased. Btw they had a bunch of sound proof areas where our daughter really loved pretending she was in a recording studio!! At the end, we bought a Yamaha P125! We're thrilled and the staff were so kind! It felt like family and we can't wait to go back!!! While we love amazon, it simply can't top going to the store, being able to play the instruments and getting helped by caring local staff. Loved loved this place!! Many people just don't understand this! The staff that helped us the most Felipe, Matthew, Abraham. Btw, they accomplished all this when the place was crazy busy too!! I was adjusting my mask in the acoustic guitar section I was there with no one else around me. When I walked out an employee with long hair came up to me ( 10 minutes later) and told me he saw me adjusting my mask and i needed to have a mask on at all times. It was ridiculous. The string of my guitar broke 3 days ago and I needed a new one. So I took my guitar to Guitar Center to have it fixed. They are now open for business up to 7 pm. I didn't know how much they will charge me to get a new string for my guitar and to have them put it as well because I haven't done it before. They immediately took care of me and had a new string put on my guitar. The technician that helped me was Felipe. Not only did he put in the new string but he also taught me how to do it. Then afterwards he tuned the guitar and that was it. Asked how much and he said it was free because it was an easy fixed. I'm so glad I went to this place and will buy my accessories here from now on for they were very accommodating. read more

I spoke with a person named Diego on the phone multiple times about renting a drum kit for two shows nearby. After arriving we were turned away for not providing American passports. They wouldn't accept any other form of ID. There is a 15% fee for repackaging returned items. As I was told these stipulations at the last minute, Diego and the general manager proceeded to snicker and sneer at us for being dumb hillbillies unwise to the ways of this great country. Side note- the bathroom was covered with months of urine drops and sprays.. loose globs of wet and dry toilet paper all over the floor. That being said, I did appreciate the bathroom when I had my anxiety pee. Sorry to the employees but this company is a rip job. read more
