If you are looking for a greasy diner burger, Henry's is the place to go. A hole in the wall novelty feel. Very straightforward with the menu. Our order included double cheeseburgers, onion rings, a munchie order of fried green tomatoes, and fried dill pickles. The breading on the fried items were seasoned well. I would say it was a little more greasy then i wanted it to be, but still delicious. The burger was mouthwatering. Im not sure if they use dehydrated onions and rehydrate them, but the flavor they give with the burger just ties every bite together. The young man at the counter was very very nice. Absolute best classic fast food joint around. It's a damn shame this is the only location. Order a triple cheeseburger, corn nuggets and a butter pecan shake. Oh Henry's, what happened?! I have the blues. I remember the good old days when a brown bag special was a treat and I was so excited to have one again. Was it always a thin basic patty with a thin bun? Fries weren't good enough to even it all out. I feel like I'd need a triple burger just to notice the patty over the bun and the bun wasn't even a big fluffy one either! 3 stars only because the service was decent and I can't bring myself to believe this place deserves less than an average score. Step back in time and stop into one of the last Henry's Hamburgers left. I'm not sure what has changed over the years but today Henry's serves up a very basic kind of greasy cheese burger. The burgers come with your basic mustard, ketchup, pickle and what I suspect was rehydrated onions. Nothing fancy just an old fashion drive in burger. Fries were well cooked but not very warm. The dining area was clean and all of the staff was friendly and service was quick. If you are looking for a quick cheap meal Henry's might be the place to visit. If you are looking to go real cheap stop in for happy hour burgers for $1.00 weekdays 2-4:00pm and 1-4:00 pm on Sunday. read more

I randomly stopped by here waiting to get a tire changed. I asked the guys at the shop for a local spot recommendation and they sent me here. I was skeptical because there was no one there at lunch time, but I went for it. I was greeted by a friendly staff, and I asked them what everyone usually gets, and they recommended the "brown bag special" so that's what I got. It was super fast and it tasted great! The place was clean, and it's a good burger. It's just the nostalgia of a old school greasy but delicious burger. Fries were fresh, and they have code red on tap. What more could you want?! I grew-up in this area. I've been eating at Henry's since I've had teeth. It never changes- that's what I love about it! Been here since 1959 - this is the last one standing from what used to be a fairly large chain in the Midwest. In the early 60's, there were over 500 Henry's Hamburgers (more stores than McDonalds at the time!) Henry's is the archetypical hamburger joint. Back in the day, when the original building was still standing, they only had high school type "chair-desks" in their "dining area" ( I will include some vintage photos). Lots of neon lights, a simple (and cheap!) menu and it's own quirkiness. Everyone in the area used to cruise around the Fairplain Plaza and stop at "Henry's" for a cheap, greazy burger. Nothing smelled better than walking into Henry's on a cold winters day and being wrapped in the warm aroma of burgers on the grill and fresh buns in the toaster. While they played ACTUAL CHRISTMAS MUSIC and didn't worry that some malcontent might be offended! Henry's had to move from their original location about 15 years ago and they are now right across the street. Different, newer building, same original neon sign. Same food. I fully (and sadly) admit the new building does not have the charm and character of the old original, but it's better than no Henry's at all. Don't expect a GREAT burger when you go to Henry's. That's not who they are- or even who they WANT to be! Henry's is CHEAP, FAST, EASY road food. At one time there were MORE Henry's than there were McDonalds!!! The burgers are sorta like Sliders, not quite as oniony and chewier, and full size. The frys (their spelling, see receipt) are either greazy or dry depending on whatever. Their prices are cheap for 2016- and if you order your hamburger "with everything" you get a .25 cent discount per burger! How quirky and cool is that! One of the counter "girls", Miss Tina, has been working here 27 years! 27 years in a fast-food joint!... and if you leave a mess on your table (especially after she has just cleaned!) she will let you know better! The counter girls ("M'elp you?") are surly, but they know half their customers by name. All part of Henry's character. Henry's never was the best hamburger in town- the burgers are chewy, the fries are greazy and the counter girls surly- that's Henry's! But, for cheap, fast eats in a true hamburger joint, Henry's is the real thing. The sign is original from 1959 and still lights up at night with pink, green and white neon tubes- a roadside masterpiece! True foodies will want to stop here if you are ever close to St. Joseph/Benton Harbor, MI. Even real road-food rats and burger con-O'-sewers will never have the same appreciation and connection that people who have grown-up eating at Henry's OUR ENTIRE LIVES; but some of us are just lucky I guess! After our harrowing (ok scratch that, just annoying) detour through New Buffalo/Stevensville/Benton Harbor with a flat...well, we were famished! Luckily my guy spotted Henry's Hamburgers amidst a sea of fast food chains and we decided to give this little burger joint a whirl. Upon first glance: *SUPER clean. *Open since 1959. *Some of the staff may be originals. We each ordered a "brown bag" (double cheeseburger/fries). Mine with a chocolate shake, his with a soda (Pepsi! Crime). While we weren't TOO impressed with the fare, I do believe we made a grave error in ordering something that had been "pre-made." Order something a little different (the menu is fast food/junk food extensive) and I think you'll have better luck. The burgers were pretty smushed and the bags soaked through with grease. The total winner of the stop was our order of deep fried green beans, which are touted in their "veggie menu" along with deep fried corn nuggets, sweet potato frieds and deep fried pickle chips. The deep fried green beans were AWESOME! They were also almost $3 for about 18 of them, so not a great deal but they were tasty. And sinful, so probably good there were only 18 of them. This was my first visit to Henry's. Supposed to be a retro burger joint from the 60's. The special is the brown bag, which is a small brown lunch bag with a burger and fry, served with a drink or shake. The burger is a double cheese burger about comparable to a McDouble, and the fries are comparable to Wendy's. I got a shake, which is just side serve ice milk. The burger and fries did not taste fresh and the shake was, well ice milk. I also orders onion rings and fried mushrooms. The onion rings were ok, again not fresh, and the mushrooms, well there were about 6 or 8 in the bag, not enough to share. I was not impressed at all, and see no reason to return. The hamburgers (their specialty) are closest to the Dairy Queens' product: a little squishy, but the hamburger's just lumpy enough to be clearly a beef product. This is the only one of it's kind left in the United States. My wife and I remember these burgers as kids in our hometown of the Quad Cities. The place is very simple and plain and the burgers were not very big, but they were delicious. The flavor memories were just as I remember as a kid, dressed with ketchup, mustard and pickles. The taste brought back good memories. My wife had the onion rings and I tasted one of those, they have a batter that is golden, crunchy and tasty, better than some other places charging more. I hate to say it but I think this place is only running on local nostalgia more than anything, not even fumes. My family comes up here for vacation every year and looking for a new place to get a bite to eat that's uniquely Michigan I stumbled across this place referenced in some travel guide to Michigan. We got a couple different variations of the burger including their brown bag special and none of them stood out as game changing or amazing. Wife and I stopped there for a quick bite since we needed something fast. They had a drive through and we preferred to go to something local/unique as opposed to McDonald's/Wendy's/etc. Shared a cheeseburger, hot dog, fries and strawberry shake. Prices same as normal chains, if not slightly higher, but sadly quality was lower on all items except for the shake, which was good. Service was very fast and friendly. If this place has been here for decades, why only one review? I went through the drive through and got the brown bag thing which is a double cheeseburger and fries with a drink of your choice. The cheeseburger was tasty but small and much like a McDonalds so if you were hungry, you'd get two. The fries were good but the choclate shake I got was sorta bland on chocolate. read more

If you love White Castle...continue going to White Castle because overly priced White Castle burgers on a McDonald's bun with microwaved fries is what you're going to get. Everything lacks with this place. But it's not cheap either in fact with the size of the patties on your burger it's probably 2xs the price of McDonalds or Burger King. read more

I lived in Benton Harbor Michigan for 35 years. My Mother And Father used to take us there and us kids used to sit outside and eat. And when I was in High school I used to sit in my car on the weekends with our girl friends and eat great food. I'm in Saint peters burg Florida it would be great to Expand.
