Henry Wok is the best of both worlds: a Chinese restaurant inside a dive bar. Or maybe it's vice versa. Whichever it is, Henry Wok has some of the best Chinese food in JC. Perhaps because the taste is spot on like what I used to eat in NYC. The service is good, the ladies taking the orders are always nice. My favorite dish is the General Tso's chicken. But, every dish I had there has been solid so far. My only qualm is that the prices have gone up quite a bit over the last few years. You get what you paid for. Affordable fried rice paired with some meats. They get it out quick and clean. And honestly it's so clutch for them being open late and during some holidays. Not being open Mondays kinda gets me because those are the days I be craving fried rice. I do feel like they could season the rice more. I don't know if it's the bean sprouts that took all the seasoning or I'm not ordering correctly. Do I still come here regardless, hell yes. You cannot beat it's price and portions. The egg foo yung is very good. I only wish they would use green onions instead of white. I recently moved within walking distance of Henry Wok's, and when I pick up my order, the food is always hot and tastes fresh. I've had it delivered, and it's the same. I have never seen food sitting under warmers or off to the side. It appears everything is cooked upon order. Apparently, the restaurant, at one time, was also a bar/lounge & restaurant. This is my type of Asian Fusion. Fuse a Chinese food delivery spot with a local dive bar and you get Henry Wok. I had to see it to believe it. It is exactly as advertised. They had the local games on the multiple TV's by the bar and had a jukebox blasting oldies. In the back where you might see a dartboard or bathroom in any other type bar...is a full Chinese food counter and kitchen like you would see on the block. Mid to highish level takeout spot. I moved to the area and didn't believe it was a real Chinese spot cuz it's so dark-windowed and local dive barish outside. Food is extra for a bar. Fried chicken wings very good, probably cuz they are most ordered at the bar. Dumplings are not the hard skinned, machine formed ones gotten at most takeout spots. Fried rice always tastes fresh. I work up the block and we often order from them when calories don't matter. The sauces are heavy, and the spicy food is not conservative. I go there to order cuz sometimes the dishes taste rushed when they deliver. Cantonese dishes they don't do well, I go 2 blocks south to China Fun, a smaller takeout spot that doesn't do Szechuan dishes well but rocks the Cantonese stuff. I really don't know why there aren't more Chinese food dive bars... seems like something straight out of a movie. Cheap prices and good screens. They'll put on a non-NY game if its on a network channel, but they'll bust your chops in the process. Good place to catch some hoops. Friendly patrons and staff. Carlton is one of the barkeeps here and he's a good dude. The Chinese food here is what one would expect from a dive bar. These guys tend to keep everything clean though and I've had a few dishes, no real complaints. Parking is scarce if you're driving here. read more
