Just had a bite at Haley's Tavern. I needed some food before going to another event so I decided to stop at the nearby Haley's Tavern. As I walked in the music was at a pleasant volume. They were playing country music and the bar area was pretty much almost full. I was quickly greeted by the bartender who was a very nice lady, and she immediately took my order of mozzarella sticks to go. The price was reasonable however I did not know that I would be charged a dollar (technology) fee to use my credit card, but maybe it was an oversight by me. The food did not take long to be ready and in less than 10 minutes I was back out the door. The mozzarella sticks were good. You got about six of them, marinara sauce and they were tasty. When I first saw the amount, I got nervous, but I'm glad that they tasted good. They were just the right temperature and the marinara sauce was good as well. If you're in the area, and need a quick bite this may be your spot. By the way, parking is trash in the area so good luck with that. read more

If you want 1) the staff to be socializing instead of waiting you 2) to dine with dogs indoors, sitting right at the bar and 3) eat subpar food, come here. Bartender on multiple occasions was having conversations with other staff and even left the bar for an extensive period. I got wings that tasted bad, and weren't crispy despite my instruction. How doe you mess up wings? Maybe they got dog urine in the food and of course when you're too busy chit-chatting you're not going to put in the order correctly. Lastly, when I told the bartender about the dog, she just ignored me. Clearly, having dogs inside this establishment serving food is commonplace. read more

Look folks: this place is not the Ritz. Don't expect cold service, overpriced drinks, and a lack of televised sports. This place knows exactly what it is and from all purviews it provides the service and food and drinks the neighborhood needs. I was just passing through the area but I found myself going back multiple times especially because of Vicky & Rinny's service and the locals who had a lot of personality. Not to mention, if you love sports they have coverage of pretty much everything and will actually put on game audio when requested. They quickly memorized my drink preferences and pour them quickly. It's also family friendly and dogs are allowed on the patio. It's nice there's a place for new families to hang and it seems like everyone knows each other. The men's bathroom is nicer than my own back home which is surprising for a tavern. They even have cute merch. I came here for a Knicks game and Vicky was working behind the bar with another bartender named Melody or maybe Mallory. They were working at the speed of light and ringing the bell when the Knicks scored big. The thunderous sound was so loud I thought the building was going to implode. We ended up going to the front patio it was a beautiful sunny day, the seating was nice, enough shade to enjoy an ice cold beer. Healy's is a fantastic local watering hole up the block from the White Eagle Hall music venue with a small food menu and inexpensive cocktails and beer. Great location with a large bar and a handful of tables. Service is solid. Parking is Jersey City is difficult at best. Tow away zones and 2 hour limits are everywhere. If I could find legal parking I would have no hesitation about returning. read more

I've gone to Healy's Tavern ever since they hosted my board game nights for my friends and I. However a recent experience really made me happy. As a disabled person, they're always helpful in making sure I find a seat. They go out of their way to accommodate me. One day I asked if I could convince them to save a seat for me, but when they couldn't find one, they were extra careful to bring me my food, to bring me my check, and their patrons helped me feel included by hanging out around me when I couldn't find a seat at the bar. I'm definitely a fan of this bar. Great neighborhood bar that is friendly, low-key, clean, and great prices. The bar itself is no frills, they have a couple of TVs for watching sports games. It's a circular bar so you sit all the way around. I've brought my dog here before and everyone is pet friendly. They have a small menu and usually something special off the menu. The bartenders are usually very attentive. Last time I went they bartender poured an extra drink and gave me an extra glass of wine. Their wine and beer selection is limited, but they have all your popular basics. I like that the music isn't to loud, and you can have a conversation with friends. They have some tables in corner area and I've seen groups of people there on the weekends. It would fit probably 1 large part of 6-8 people in the corner. I'm a fan of this place. It's a dive bar, no doubt, but there is something wonderfully unpretentious about a dive bar in the midst of downtown Jersey City. The last time I was there, I was one of 4-5 people in the bar and was there to watch a basketball game with my buddy. Across the bar from us, two 40-somethings seemed to be having the time of their life: like a couple of teenagers, they were making out, feeling one another up, and generally feeling good. The steak is a nice cut rib eye steak, cooked the way you like it, topped with a cheddar cheese peppers and onions. The steak is so tender and flavorful. I'm an old school kind of gal, and I enjoy a pub with a killer burger and fries. Can I just say that Healy's Tavern is one of THE best places to get all of the above, and then some. There's no fancy-pants signature cocktails here - just good people, good vibes, good food, and a jukebox to boot. I always make my posse travel here when we want reasonably priced drinks and yummy bar food. Occasionally, they'll have specials that the owners have cooked up - like corned beer, for example - but their regular bar menu is just fine too. Like I said, it's not fancy, but it's all greasy and all delicious. (The hand-cut fries are some of the best around!) If you're not in the mood for a burger, give the cheese steaks a try, and the pork bone-in ribs that are honestly melt-in-your mouth delicious. This place is dangerous to my liver for several reasons: 1. The bartenders/owners/etc are super friendly, and they genuinely make a point to remember you. 2. They don't have a ton of TVs, but the ones they do have are always tuned to the Yankees, Rangers, etc. During the NHL playoffs, they put on the sound for us. 3. The bar food is standard but it's cheap. They also have pork shanks on the menu! 4. They support firemen, cops, and TEACHERS (yes, I am aware it's owned by the mayor's family so this is par for the course, but you should support these people anyway!). Yesterday, they had specials all day and closed off part of the street for an "End of the School Year" party. 5. It is as "local JC" as it gets... the patrons are diverse but have a ton of JC pride and it's fantastic. 6. It is within stumbling distance of my apartment. My one and only gripe is with the very limited beer selection (Yuengling and Guinness are the "fanciest" beers on the list). However, one has to consider that many of the patrons are working class JC people who don't give a crap about craft beer and probably wouldn't drink it if it was there. Music is a little dated but certainly much more tolerable than the Top 40 shit they play at other bars. read more

I'm updating my review, Healy's is definitely worth checking out. Very friendly vibe on a Saturday night, and service was outstanding. Come here on Sunday's, they have the NFL package and you can see out of market games (GO LIONS). Good football crowd on Sunday's. On Weekends 11 PM and earlier is for a bit of an older crowd, but everyone is welcome and if you like to belt out Sinatra standards you'll be at home here.
