Tried Mamak House and ended up loving several dishes here. The char kway teow is easily the best I've had in NJ -- real wok hei, smoky aroma, and well-balanced seasoning. The shrimp and seafood were fresh and cooked just right, not mushy at all. The fried chicken wings were another favorite. Thin, crispy batter, simple seasoning, and that nostalgic old-school Chinese fried chicken flavor. The salted fish eggplant claypot is on the heavier side, but in a good way. The salted fish pieces are large and extremely salty on their own, but once mixed into the sauce and eggplant, the dish becomes rich, savory, and comforting. If you like bold flavors, wok hei, and Southeast Asian-style cooking, this place is genuinely worth a visit. I would return for the char kway teow alone.

Delicious Malaysian food. My favorite dish was the chicken satay and beef rendang. Kind service and spacious for large groups. Will definitely come back to try a few more dishes!

Thai Basil w Chicken (~$19)

Ordered: Malaysian Lychee Juice (~$6) Roti Canai (~$7): crispy Indian-style pancake served with curry chicken as dipping sauce Thai Basil w Chicken (~$19): chicken with bell peppers, onion, and chili in a Thai basil sauce; served with jasmine rice Char Kway Teow (~$15): stir-fried flat rice noodles with fresh shrimp, squid, bean sprouts, egg, soy sauce, and chili paste Aya's take: If you're craving Malaysian, Chinese, or Thai food - Mamak House will satisfy any of those cravings! They weren't busy at all when we stopped by around 1pm on a Saturday. There's tons of options on their extensive menu so you will absolutely find something for everyone regardless of dietary needs. We started with the Roti Canai. The roti was crispy, flaky, and buttery. It paired nicely with the curry chicken dipping sauce which was sweet, aromatic, and tasty. My only complaint is that they only gave a single piece of chicken and single potato. That makes this a difficult appetizer to share and the ratio of roti to curry is a bit off. My absolute favorite bite here is the Char Kway Teow. It caught my eye on the menu and did not disappoint! It was smoky from the wok, slightly sweet, and slightly savory from the soy sauce. The shrimp & squid were super fresh, tender, and had a nice chew. I wish they had more shrimp as there were only 4 pieces. The Thai Basil w Chicken was cooked well and was a solid portion but nothing to write home about. It was such a filling and affordable meal! Plenty of seating and free parking in the back. I highly recommend trying them out!

This place is more Malaysian Chinese food rather than Malaysian Hawker food. So it's good for groups. They do have some of the standard hawker fair like Nasi Lemak and Char Kurt Teow. Service was fast and friendly. Even though it was closing time they still welcomed us and said for us to take our time. The food was flavorful. We enjoyed coming back as the food and service has remained consistent.

Really great dining experience at Mamak! Heard some wonderful things about the food and they didn't disappoint. We had arrived during a late dinner rush but were seated immediately. They have a great variety of Malaysian and Chinese specialties. Everything we ordered was definitely cooked fresh and came out very quickly. We started with a mango salad, honey squid, and roti canai. We also had ordered the beef with American broccoli, seafood pan fried noodle, and another noodle dish. Loved everything! Service was excellent and all of the employees were great! We will definitely be back again!

Roti Canai and Egg Drop Soup.

Really good food at a reasonable price. Never noticed this place while driving on rt 440 but it came up on yelp while we were in the area & decided to give it a chance. Excellent service, friendly staff, clean and spacious location. Started with the roti canai, small appetizer, big taste in the excellent curry sauce, egg drop soup was really good, the clove really came out in the chilli Indian Chicken & the Mango Chicken was excellent. First time having the peanut pancake that went will with the fries ice cream. The only thing that wasn't impressive was the egg roll, granted they weren't bad, just nit impressive but I dipped them in the mango Chicken sauce which really turned it up. Will definitely be trying g more stuff here in the future.

The restaurant is spacious with lots of seating and there's parking on both sides. It is easy to just walk in and get a table. The portions are huge and the food is very flavorful. Roti canai is a classic and always a must get appetizer - some of the roti was a bit thin so it broke and was hard to get the sauce. However the curry sauce is super flavorful. Honey squid was crispy and addicting - would be a great snack for drinking but a bit too crispy for my taste. Kari Mee with Shrimp came with 5 jumbo shrimps in a rich, curry broth. The noodles soaked up the broth nicely. Hokkien Char Mee has a nice smokey flavor ( good wok hei). There was jumbo shrimp, squid and pork.

Don't judge a book by its cover--- very surprising find

Very surprised. Don't judge a book by its cover in this case don't judge the external of the building and the location on a very busy industrial roadway. It was one of the top Malaysian meals that we have had in a long time very surprised to find this in Bayonne. As soon as we stepped in from the parking lot, we knew we were in a different location and the ethnic customer base confirmed we were going to have a good meal . We started off with an order of Tom Yum soup with seafood which had a nice bite. Next we followed that with a puff pastry order (4 in the order) the crust was flaky and a small amount of meet inside. Was okay; would order again. We ordered the rest off the lunch menu. Mango shrimp dish was excellent. To our surprise the mangos were perfectly ripe and the flavor profile had a bit of a kick... nice flavor. We also had the green curry with chicken, another very nice flavorful dish. Contemporary decor. Be sure to check out the gender neutral restrooms. Parking lot outside

Great food quality, great service with friendly and attentive staff, and great ambiance. Bonus points for having parking! It's super affordable and filling, highly recommend checking this place out!

We have gotten take out from Mamak House a few times and generally like our food. There are several types of cuisines on the menu so if you want Chinese and your partner wants Thai, there are plenty of dishes to chose from. As a vegetarian, I appreciate that they have a vegetarian section of their menu. Last time I had the Kari Sayur (#61) and I liked it; there was a large variety of vetables in the dish which made it very unique. The vegetable Thai springrolls are very small and do not have much filling, so I wouldn't recommend them. Aside from skipping the Thai spring rolls, I would suggest ordering extra rice as they portion exactly 1 cup of rice for each main dish. I guess I am spoiled and require extra rice with my curries, so I order extra rice and am happy. I would absolutely love if they added a vegetarian potato curry version of Roti Canai to their menu.

It was served with plantain chips and great for a hotter night app. For my main, I got the Grain Bowl. So good, so filling and I had plenty left over for lunch the next day. Let me just say, this was the FIRST restaurant in Jersey City that I had absolutely no complaints…read morewhen it comes to the taste of food! I was surprised, with how surprised I was at the taste and quality of food. Due to food prices rising and quality going down, I have managed to cook at home as much as I can. I usually go out, order food, pay all that money, and regret it because it wasn't satisfactory. I was really pleased with this restaurant. I went for brunch. The steak and eggs plate was more than enough. I'm not a bread fan, but the biscuit with the homemade strawberry jam was actually to die for! The biscuit was fresh, moist and soft. The jam was not too sweet and paired together they were extremely satisfying! I could've eaten the biscuit with just the eggs and still recommended this place. I did think the steak was not the best, but the chimichurri sauce on top *kinda* helps you get over it. If you're a big fan of steak, know what well cooked steak is and that's your favorite food and you need it done perfectly, you also will not like it. To add to this point precisely, generally, steak and eggs plate are on the pricy side. With how good everything else was on the plate, how much food is provided and the lower cost of this steak and eggs plate makes it well worth it! Idc, if you feel like you make the best pancakes out there, the softness of these pumpkin pancakes are simply unbeatable! I absolutely love pancakes, and these may be the best ones I have ever had. They melt in your mouth and there's not much I can say other than please try the pancakes! They offer blueberry pancakes as well, but I did not have those and can't speak on that! With the trio appetizer, I think the pita was very good. Perfect crunch, perfect softness, slightly some flavor. The dips were okay. I was expecting more flavor, but that's the fun part of being able to try a variety, some you are gonna like more than others. I think we were given more than enough pieces of pita and that was nice since we can all agree sometimes the dip to chip/bread ratio does not really match at most places. The middle salad was fresh. There was some olives (which I generally do not like) but they were not as salty as olives generally are, and it was a good appetizer of choice to get some freshness, some slight protein (from certain dips being made out of beans) and it was a great introduction to our main meals. This if my first time going to this restaurant, hopefully other things on the menu will also meet my standards of good, but for the first experience and the selection of what I chose on the menu, in the least, I say try the steak and egg plate and DEF the pumpkin pancakes (ESPECIALLY if your a fan of pumpkin like myself). I'm not someone that cares for ambiance much, but it was nice in there. Typical amount of people in there for brunch, but did not feel overcrowded or loud although the space (that I was sitting in) felt slightly small. The service was nice, but I did feel it was a bit overbearing. I don't like to be asked how I'm doing every 10 mins, but maybe some people do. Also, waited for a while trying to get the check from our waiter. Saying this for the people who care about these things, me not so much.

So it was my Pal's birthday and four of us went to grab some brunch at the table. The food was…read moredelicious. I had some scrambled eggs with cheese and a buttermilk biscuit.
