I understand the pull to eat seafood when in Kittery, HOWEVER, I would highly recommend H8 as my FAVORITE sandwich shop in the state. Hand carved roast beef, turkey, and pork sandwiches - with some incredible combos on a soft warm roll. I had the Squire with the cranberry sauce and hot gravy and my partner had the Tower of London- a twist on the Reuben. There are. GF options as well. The outdoor seating is well covered, and there were people sitting here with dogs. A great idea for travelers and tourists with pets. Perhaps the best part? The gentleman at the counter was one of the nicest people I have encountered working in a COVID-esque environment. Absolutely in love.

I stop in when in Kittery. Nice clean restaurant and cool theme. The sandwich roll is the bomb and always soft sour dough fresh... I ordered the court Jester roast beef that has hot gravy and mushrooms.... Excellent sandwich. My same complaint each time I eat there is meat would taste more tender and easier to eat than cubing meat? Not sure why cubing vs. slicing? Actually likely easier to cut on-a slicer than hand chopping. Quick service, in and out without dealing with a tip or waitress/ waiter service.

This is a must stop whenever we're in Kittery. Their sandwiches are SO good. Warning - do not get the straight up horseradish sandwich because it is really spicy just like the warning on the menu states. The roast beef is not sliced like other delis but rather chopped like other reviewers have said. I don't think this is an issue but some people may not like it. The horseradish mayo is delicious. There is plenty of seating inside and outside but we opted to take our sandwiches with us during COVID and so we could enjoy it when we got home. Wish it was closer!

Ordered two Henry VIII to go. Their signature sandwich?? Could almost be mistaken for finger sandwiches. What a rip off for 10.50 a pop. Small amount of cubed meat and horseradish sauce maybe a teaspoon worth. Nothing special here. Certainly not worth the stop. Disappointed.

I came for a roast beef sandwich. I got a roast beef sandwich, with Cheddar, lettuce and tomato on a terrific tasting roll. BUT.......instead of being thinly sliced to enhance the flavor and tenderness of the beef, they chose to cut into chunks resembling poké. The flavor of the beef was outstanding but I could not enjoy it because it was too chewy. My potato salad was quite fresh and delicious. I prefer potato salad with egg and some kind of pickle on it. This didn't have that but was nonetheless delicious as evidenced by my empty bowl. If I were to remain in the area, I'd try one of their other sandwich offerings - pork loin, ham, turkey.

Fairly decent sandwich, but just way overpriced for what you get. The sandwich is small. I would rather pay a few dollars more and get a larger sandwich. Feels very similar to earl of sandwich. Bread was fairly good. The meat was tender. Something about the ratio was off though. Still a decent find in a random off beaten city.

Some of the best roast beef I've ever had. The spice of the horseradish was perfect. And the clam chowdah was pretty awesome too. Buttery!!

Yum! Yum! Chicken salad!…read more Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and the place had plenty of seating. We decided to dine in their nice patio area because it was such a nice day out. Everything on their menu looked delicious and I couldn't decide between a burger or a sandwich. The nice waiter recommended their chicken salad and since I was already looking at that sandwich it made my choice easier. My bf got their Cuban sandwich and since neither entrees came with fries we decided to share an order of their thick cut fries. They also have a variety of beers on tap and canned beverages. I went with one of their local draft dark beers and it was very good. When the food came out it looked very appetizing. Their house coleslaw was extra delicious and super crunchy. The chicken salad tasted great and it was very well seasoned and I really loved the big chunks of chicken! The Cuban sandwich was also very good from the one bite I stole from my boyfriend. And the fries were soooo good! I was a perfect lunch date!

I'm surprised at the number of recent reviews that were negative. We really enjoyed the place,…read moreand thought their food was excellent. The seafood chowder was incredible. Probably the best of its kind I've ever had. My wife and I only ordered cups of it, and had we known how good it was, we absolutely would have ordered the bowl. If we ever go back there again, we're absolutely ordering a bowl of this stuff! They advertise the chowder as, "award-winning," and when we asked our extremely solicitous server what that meant, she told us that each year, restaurants in the Portsmouth area submit their chowder for evaluation, and Water View Grill has won this eight years in a row! After eating this, we would certainly believe it! For the main dish, I ordered pan-seared diver scallops. It had a bacon jam on top of it, and it was excellent. For dessert, we ordered the blueberry lemon bread pudding. I'm usually not much of a bread pudding guy, but this was also delicious. While we've given it a 5 star rating, we do have a criticism, and that is with regard to their bathrooms. Specifically, there was ONLY ONE unisex bathroom on the main floor! Maybe there is another one downstairs, but we were shocked there was only one for the entire main floor dining area. We didn't have a problem that night, because it wasn't very crowded when we were there, but if it was crowded...

Typical and little pieces of lobster that if you looked hard enough with glasses you can see them. My wife got a salad and added chewy dry steak to it. No that is not on the menu that way just how her steak turned out. She mentioned everyone be careful with the side dressing as it is very strong and can make your lips pucke if you put too much on. That is a bit on the tart side of course. I got the lobster ravioli and this is where the lobster from the bisque went. There were extra lobster and good size pieces mixed in. Had great mushrooms and tiny pieces of asparagus which was perfect. Only downside was the salt added to my meal. Even after walking around town after I had to loosen my sneakers and watch band due to the swelling from the salt. Had that been added as one of the ingredients I would have said no. If you orde and suggest you do ask for no salt or suffer the salt consequences afterwards.

Many thanks to Yelp for helping us locate a fabulous place for our last evening in Portsmouth…read morebefore heading back to California. I love the vibe. It's pretty chill and classy at the same time. Our server dazzled us with his smile. We had a cocktail that we enjoyed very much. The mushroom melange on the grilled baguette was to die for. A great selection of seafood apps, and a variety of meat options in the entree section (steak, chicken, lamb, short rib, duck) and a couple of vegetarian items. Something for everyone. It was a Tuesday night and pouring rain. We arrived without a reservation. It was very busy. The bar and restaurant were full. There were two side bar seats available which we happily took while we waited for a table. We had a delicious cosmo and a glass of prosecco while we waited. The server let us know our table was ready, and we did not need to settle our bar tab before going to the table. I love that! I find it inconvenient when restaurants ask people to do that. The server even took our sopping umbrellas and put them in the umbrella stand by the door for us. So nice! We tried 2 appetizers, the Caribbean Curry Mussels and the Seared Ahi Tuna. I can't decide which one I loved more. Both were fantastic. The broth the mussels were in was so flavorful, rich, salty, not spicy, coconut deliciousness. I wanted to eat it all like a soup. There was no bread served with the mussels to soak up the broth...which I would have loved, but not having it did save me some carbs. The seared tuna was absolute perfection. Very slightly seared and served with a well dressed seaweed salad and two sauces (coulis style ) a charred jalapeño aioli and a mango coulis. For dinner we shared the arugula salad with strawberries and goat cheese (although there was very little goat cheese) in a delicious poppy seed vinaigrette, and the miso Marinaded seared salmon with sticky rice and mango salsa. The salmon was fantastic...perfectly cooked, very flavorful, the sticky rice was so delicious and chewy, and the mango salsa added sweetness. I love that they split the salad into two dishes for us. I love when restaurants do this. It's a nice touch to acknowledge the server was listening the we intend to share, and to make it easier for us to do so. And we shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio. I will be back!
