Henk's BBQ in Amarillo, Texas. It has been here on Grand and I-40.

Henk's been a Amarillo staple since 1972. Ironically (not planned, I was hungry) but en route to Lubbock to attend my Oom (Uncle in Dutch) HENK Vera's funeral (today is - Friday, September 13, 2019) and I go by HENK'S BBQ. RIP Oom Henk - I toast this rib to you.

Drove by this small family-owned BBQ restaurant earlier today waited till 1 to eat lunch super friendly staff who stayed busy stocking and cleaning up ribs were good barbecue was good coleslaw and potato salad we're good beans were little playing for my liking price is set about right for barbecue. And free blueberry cobbler today which was pretty good too

I was actually headed for Coyote Bluff after going to the post office on Ross Street to get a package on its way faster but as it turned out that place was closed due to water problems from a water main breaking nearby. I looked on Yelp and discovered Henks wasn't that far away and it was one of the places I was wanting to try anyway. I don't get to this side of town that often since I'm staying over by Bell and I-40. The girl behind the counter was very nice. I ordered a Frito pie since I hadn't had one for a while and they had some cake that look good so I got that too. I asked the girl what kind it was and she said it was called hummingbird cake. I had to Google that to find out what it was but just as it looked like it was a spice cake with a lot of extra ingredients added in. The Frito Pie hit the spot. It came with a drink which was great because I was thirsty. I didn't end up eating the cake till the next day and it was delicious. If I get back to this side of town again I will definitely have to stop in and I recommend it to others. From what I understand from locals I have talked to, Henks has a long history with Amarillo BBQ places. Their reputation is well-deserved.

I guess not everything is bigger in Texas!

Went to this place hinks BBQ a little hole in the wall claiming to be some of the best barbecue. Not much to look at but I figured hole in the walls are usually always better. Paid almost $9 for this McDonald's cheeseburger version of barbecue. I see hot link sandwich so I figure should be a decent size, not the case! The only reason I gave it two stars was because the lady who served it was nice other than that the food was not the $8 and change that they charged me. The portions were very disappointing. Kind of hard to mess up hot links so I wasn't very impressed especially with the prices coming from California I expected better but ended up getting less. Now I don't know if it has anything to do with the price of meat but if these are what you guys served before that then people are up to be disappointed. I like to get places a second chance so I will try and see what else they have I just hope I'm not disappointed yet again.

Dropped in for some BBQ and was surprised to find a combo plate Wednesday special for less than $10. Got the chopped beef, thick slice of ham, and sausage with coleslaw, potato salad, beans, bread and a drink. Huge amount of food for dirt cheap. Not the best BBQ around by any means, but it's good and cheap if you hit the special. Quaint little place, couple of good ol boys dishing out the no-bullshit grub. Across the freeway and up the road a little ways is Coyote Bluff. Yes, THAT Coyote Bluff. I''ll hit that Hell burger again for sure!! Review to follow.

Just keep on driving....this sauce is more like a sweet and sour sauce. No sliced brisket so they just give you Dry chopped beef.

I like the Frito pie quite a bit. It's BYOB which is cool and they have a good selection of peppers and pickles to top off your bbq

You order food at the register and then sit down, so when you order a dessert, they can put a little note to serve it to you at the end. Speaking of dessert, that pecan cobbler ala mode smacks! The perfect ending to a delicious meal. The meat is so tender and falls off the bone. You don't need a knife to cut anything. A plastic knife will do the job easily. They say the brisket is the star of the show and I can attest to that. However, the turkey is the runner up. I don't know what they do to that Turkey, but my husband and I might have to grab more to take home with us tomorrow. They were so nice too because we ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs and they ran out, so we got the last of the ribs. The also doubled all our meats! We wound up getting 1/2 a lb of turkey and 1 lb of brisket! We are going to be eating some good sandwiches for the next few days. We definitely plan on coming back the next time we are in Amarillo. If you're in the area, definitely come in and grab a bite! They also have plenty of choices in beer too.

My first time here, the Tootum Gas Station is CLEAN, I think this is a really good alternative for truck drivers if they are willing to forgoe taking a break at Petro or even Pilot. I wanted Protein today, was almost inching on parking my rig at the Big Texan again to get myself some steak, but I quickly opted for Mitch's BBQ Texas Style off the exit 75 in Amarillo Texas. Service is fast, lady and elder gentleman were super nice. Food overall no complaints, great brisket. Albeit a bit cold, but decent pork ribs, pretty good Johnsonville*ish polish sausage with cheddar jalapeno. I'd say for value this would beat any Dickeys BBQ located in California with a huge tray of food coming out under 28.00. Think I found my new spot to take a breather in Northern Panhandle Texas. Makes me want to rewatch the Yellowstone series because everyone in there was dressed like the Duttons.

I was just looking for a quick bite before hitting the road again, and the Yelp reviews didn't steer me wrong. I ordered the four-piece combo: two ribs, two chicken tenders, waffle fries, and a drink. Everything was served hot and fresh. The barbecue sauce was solid, nice flavor without being overpowering. The ribs were decent, and the chicken tenders were cooked perfectly, though the breading was way too spicy for me (I ended up peeling it off and still enjoyed the chicken inside). Waffle fries were crispy and satisfying, and the price felt fair for the portion. Nothing fancy--again, gas station--but definitely better than expected. Would I go out of my way for it? Probably not. But for a quick, hot meal on the road? It hit the spot.

It's just my favorite food!(after Maine lobster, of course ) She said Wesley's had the best bbq in town. Of course, we had to try it. It was quite a way from our hotel. 9 miles, but well worth it! I had the small rib plate. 3 meaty smokey ribs so tender the meat came right off the bone. With the sweet hickory bbq sauce adding just the right flavor, I was sold. The pinto beans were cooked just right. The cole slaw is the type I like, not over mayonnaised and not too sweet. Crunchy cabbage. There were 7 of us, and everyone cleaned their plate! The bonus was a young singer, Nelson mckinney entertained us with his wonderful voice and guitar playing. This is a don't miss place to eat if you are in Amarillo.
