Man running front of house directed me to their printed menu and suggested I pick what I want and then ask about modifications. After sifting through their large menu, I landed on a few items I thought I'd ask about. Thankfully, he was very knowledgeable about each item and what would need to be changed about it to make it vegan. I ordered the Crispy Pad Thai with Veggies, Pad Cashew with Tofu, and the Vegetable Dumplings (which he said are made in house). All were really delicious and good size portions. The in-restaurant dining room wasn't very busy but there was a steady stream of delivery drivers picking up orders, during my 15-20 minutes there. It's a modest, fairly casual restaurant with not a lot of "bells and whistles". The menus are very informal printed copies of what's listed online. But my experience included really good food, a knowledgeable staff, and confirmation of a great local spot for solid take-out. Looking forward to trying more of the menu.

Then we started w peanut sauce spring rolls and crab Rangoons. They do not skimp on the peanut sauce and as a peanut sauce lover, i was very happy w the amount of sauce they put on the rolls. The crab Rangoons were also excellent. We got beef pad see iew and tofu pad Thai. I will be back for both these dishes, esp the pad Thai. Delicious! This was actually my first time trying sticky rice w mango, it was insane lol soooo good. What have I been doin my whole life without this dessert??! The mango was ripe AF. Wow so good. I forgot to ask what the soup was because it was so refreshing. It was definitely ginger based chicken broth with wild rice but the ginger flavor was not overpowering at all. Very smooth and clean tasting. The spring rolls were a delightful treat as the veggies inside were very crisp and fresh and the tamarind sauce that accompanied it was the perfect pairing. Found this to be a unique twist because most Thai places I've been too serve spring rolls with just a simple sweet n sour but the tamarind added a really nice touch to the sauce. And the Pad See Woo hit. This is one of my favorite Thai dishes. Again, their sauce hit just a little different. There as just something different about their black soy sauce. I actually tasted the sauce first and knew right away this was going to be good. And one thing I noticed was that there were a lot of regulars coming through the door for their take out. The owner knew them by name and even took the time to chat with them as they waited for their food. Gotta love that charm. Definitely coming back!

We've been coming here for years, and our favorite server has been there for what feels like forever. He has always been amazing, and we've always made sure to tip him in cash because we wanted HIM to get his tip. Recently, we heard/read claims from people connected to the restaurant about how card tips were allegedly being handled, and if those claims are true, that is extremely disappointing. I also heard that our server had been told the restaurant would eventually be sold to him, only for the owners to apparently sell it to someone else without even telling him. Again, I wasn't personally there for those conversations, so I'm not going to pretend I know every detail, but hearing that story was honestly heartbreaking. Regardless of all of that, my personal experience with the restaurant after the ownership change has been awful. The food quality has gone way downhill, and the restaurant does not feel like the place my family used to love. It genuinely sucks watching a restaurant that used to mean so much to our family change this much. The one thing I will say is that our server has always been amazing and deserves better.

Thai Aree is about as authentic for flavor and spice as you can get, and it gets really spicy. Has a pretty well rounded menu of classic items to choose from. Prices are pretty okay for the portions and quality. After hearing such great things about it, we made our way here. It's kind of a small place. This is in a pretty boring area on Milwaukee Avenue with not much around it but garages and that kind of stuff. Also the building looked crappy. Of course we are skeptical. Anyway, we ordered because we were already here. It's about $11 for an entree, and we each got noodles. Also you have a protein choice. We each got these with tofu. As for the spice, we got medium. She had the Pad Thai. It looked pretty good, but the spice was the key. This was medium but still pretty spicy. I got the Pad See Ewe. This was a choice of stir fried thin or wide rice noodles. Got it with the wide ones which were good. This had broccoli, Chinese broccoli, eggs which I left out, and choice of protein, and I got the tofu. Creamy and hot. The very spicy level would have just overwhelmed the flavor it seems. Has to be a consideration if looking for authentic Thai food. It recently had a renovation. The menu has plenty for meat eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians.
