We had a good experience at this hand roll bar where individual hand rolls are made to order and served one at a time. Out favourites were the unagi, bluefin tuna and Hokkaido scallop. The negitoro and salmon were a bit bland. Service is friendly and the space is very nice.

Overall a good spot although the night we went, the service was a tad slow (it seemed busy so understandable). Provides an omakase-type of experience, but less intimate if that makes sense? Sushi was fresh and very yummy (my favorite were spicy shrimp and king salmon rolls). The drinks were interesting as well and I enjoyed their take on a margarita with some yuzu flavour! Definitely a place to check out for an experience :)

I've ordered from Hello Nori so many times that I'm realizing I don't actually have any pictures of the food! Definitely one of my go to spots when I'm craving sushi - the hand rolls are so fresh and sushi rice is perfect. I've dined in a few times, but mostly order to go and even ordering it to go taste just as fresh. I usually get the 5 hand roll set and love each one! My favourites are definitely the lobster and scallop rolls. Will always come back here!

A hand roll bar that originated in Vancouver - finally has a location in Toronto! I've had the one in Vancouver before and loved it, so had to check out the Toronto location as well. Came in a weeknight evening and we were the only ones in there dining. Beautiful interior with a nicely designed ceiling. Service is attentive, as they watch to see if you have finished your previous roll, before starting on your next one. They have set menu rolls that you can get in either 4,5 or 6 rolls. What we got: Salmon aburi oshi sushi 4/5 - Pressed sushi that comes in 3. It's torched on the top so it has a nice torched flavour to it. Uni hand roll 5/5 - Believe this was their special when I was there. I'm a lover of uni anything, so had to get this roll for myself. Definitely recommend if it's in season during your dining experience. Was creamy, decadent and delicious. 4-Hand roll set 5/5 - Came with negitoro, ora king salmon, snow crab and spicy shrimp. All four of the rolls were delectable and delicious. Definitely on the filling side since it's all rice. Can't wait to come back to have some more hand rolls. It's a quick in and out type of meal but definitely a satisfying one.

I got the 6 hand roll set menu and my favourite were the hokkaido scallop and salmon as they were so fresh! Everyone sits at the bar and they make the handrolls fresh in front of you. They also have a hand towel which they wet for you when you take a seat. The servers and chefs were friendly.

I've always had a special sort of affinity for hand rolls, and yet it's the one sushi-related item that's so hard to get right. Sometimes they're overstuffed and other times they're just soggy as hell. So when I heard there was a spot that specialized in hand rolls, I was immediately intrigued. We showed up moments after they opened on a recent weekend and the place was completely empty. After sitting through a very long intro from our server, I decided to get the 4-Hand Roll combo ("Toro, Ora King Salmon, Snow Crab, Spicy Shrimp"). After ordering, a chef comes over and begins preparing the hand rolls one by one, and they're handed to you as they're ready. These are really terrific hand rolls. You can't get much fresher than this, so the nori is still a little crispy when you take your first bite. It's great. The fillings for each are top-notch too, although my personal favorite was the salmon. (A couple of the other ones might've been a little too creamy for my liking but they were still quite delicious.) Yeah, Hello Nori is a real winner.

Visited after work with two colleagues and were told it would be a 15-20 min wait. Upon walking in, the atmosphere was spacious and minimalistic with a cool ceiling. The seating is essentially bar seating arranged in a circle with the workers preparing the hand rolls in the centre. Since we were a group of 3, it was a little mode difficult to find seating as most people were there as a pair or larger group (even if a pair left, it's not likely another seat beside would free up at the same time). After half an hour, two seats freed up and the server asked if we would be okay with them seating a pair that arrived after us. We were hesitant and mentioned it had been longer than they originally said for the wait, and we were seated not long after. The meal was delicious, with the hand rolls prepared warm and the nori crispy as each roll is made based on your pace. I had the 6 handroll combo which included: Toro, Yellowtail, Ora King Salmon, Hokkaido Scallop, Snow Crab, and Truffle Lobster. Each roll contained a type of garnish or sauce (scallions, sesame/sesame oil, mayo) which elevated the flavours of the fish. At the end of the meal, the server told us there would be mochi ice cream on the house for the wait earlier and we got to pick 3 flavours each. Service was top-notch, the fish was fresh, and the meal was filling enough. Definitely worth a try!

    Sashimi of the Day ($45.00)

This Japanese restaurant just opened on 2024-10-19. They specialize in hand rolls. They call themselves a hand roll bar. They have 3 locations in Vancouver. Everyone sits at a sushi bar so you can watch the action. There are 36 counter seats. Everything is very fresh and tasty! And the prices are affordable, cheaper than many of the high-end sushi restaurants in Toronto! So many new downtown restaurants want to charge $100+/p but you can get extremely good quality sushi, sashimi, and hand rolls for $40-$60/p! The hand rolls use crispy nori, a special blend of brown rice grain, and warm rice. They roll everything to order and serve one roll at a time. It is recommended to eat the hand roll within 10 secs. After that, it will physically start changing. They use real ingredients. They even use sustainable products. There is fresh fish flown in every day from Vancouver. There is an order paper that you would mark off. It also indicates which are gluten-free, vegan, and/or ocean-wise/sustainable. They make their own sake. They don't have their liquor license yet but is expected to be available within 2 weeks of opening. Before you start, you wash your hands with a tiny white cloth which is rolled up so small that I didn't know what it was until I was told. We ordered the following: 1. Lychee Berry Mocktail x 2 ($4.00 x 2). 2. White Peach drink ($5.00). 3. Miyuzaki A5 Wagyu Hand Roll x 2 ($27.00 x 2, opening special $23.00 x 2). 4. 6-Hand Roll ($35.00). 5. Sashimi of the Day ($45.00). 6. Tamago x 2 ($5.00 x 2). 7. Ebi Aburi Oshi Sushi ($8.00). 8. Salmon Aburi Oshi Sushi ($8.00). The service is excellent. They will check on you. Food is served relatively quickly. If you want a quick and quality meal during lunch hour weekday, you can get it here. Seating at the counter is great because you can seat the food hand rolls prepared in front of you. And it is prepared with such skill. The Sashimi of the Day was so beautifully plated. Everything was definitely fresh. It has premium sashimi including toro. For all the hand rolls, the rice is definitely warm and it's so nice to eat a warm hand roll. The A5 Wagyu is stupendous. They torch both side, dip it into sauce, torch both sides again, and then dip it into sauce again! Then they put it in a hand roll. So much work involved. Miyazuki A5 Wagyu Beef (or Miyazakigyu) is among the finest and most luxurious brands of beef in the world! It is world-renowned for its intricate, snowflake-like marbling. Miyazakigyu exhibits a buttery, tender texture that offers an upscale eating experience. Our child has never eaten sushi, sashimi, or hand rolls before. This was an excellent restaurant to start his adventure. We started with a Tomago hand roll ($5.00). He absolutely loved it so he had a second one. We asked him to try the A5 Wagyu hand roll ($23.00) and he said it was the best! He wanted more. Why does he have expensive tastes?! The Aburi Oshi Sushi is torched along with a petrified oak wood. It adds a smokey flavour instead of a butane flavour. Little "ash" pieces might land on top which adds to the flavour! The White Peach drink is really refreshing. The restaurant is walk-in only (no reservations). Since they only just opened, they are not so busy before 18:00. Although by the time we left around 14:30, they were 70% full! There is easy-listening music playing in the background. There are hooks at each seat to hang bags. Each location has its own story and aesthetic. This location reflects the area's rich textile history. The interior design reflects the flowing curves of intricate fabric patterns. There is use of wood, stone, and concrete. The wood ceiling shows the curves. Their first location in Vancouver opened 2021-02-14 (during the pandemic!). They will be introducing catering in Toronto; it started 6-8 months ago in Vancouver. The experience is different in that there are chefs at the site making hand rolls to order. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are two gender-neutral washrooms, one of which is wheelchair accessible. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2024-217

I'm glad hello nori came to Toronto! Inside everything is so cute- very aesthetically pleasing even the washroom haha. I came here with a friend, it was before a function so we were coming to catch up and grab a snack. We both got the 4 hand roll set menu- negitoro, ora king salmon, snow crab and spicy shrimp. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Love watching the chefs make it right in front of you. My favourite was the negitoro! It was definitely a perfect snack not too much and not too little. We also got the mochi- which is a great deal 3 for 6$- mochi was perfectly chewy and ice cream was the right amount of sweetness. For drinks they ran out of the nitro brew matcha so we got the sencha brewed tea instead. Everything was delicious and the service was amazing. Very attentive and great at explaining everything!

Ordered 6 handroll ($35) set menu which is Toro, yellowtail, Ora king salmon, Hokkaido scallops, snow crab & truffle lobster. Other than salmon, I didnot really feel like I get the full taste of seafood. Amount of seafood in my roll was very little and since it was a minced form mixed with creamy sauce, it was not really enjoyable. I personally am not a fan of my handroll with minced form seafood. Except salmon, all other 5 rolls were minced. They could have mixed up a but and have some small diced form at least. If I were to order more premium like wagyu it was $23, uni was $27 per roll which was way out of my budget. All the gorgeous rolls I saw from IG by influencers were kinda misleading. Rice & nori was fresh though and service was fantastic. But because this is not a type of seafood experience I truly enjoy, I am not returning for more. I would go to regular sushi restaurants where they offer better ratio of seafood for rice and pay a bit more.

Came here tonight for dinner and had to wait around 15-20mins which isn't too bad. The restaurant is a very unique concept and has a modern aesthetic. My boyfriend and I ordered the 6 piece handroll each and aburi sushi ( ebi & salmon). The handrolls were nice and crispy seaweed ( hence you are told to eat within 10 secs) , however some rolls were more rice than meat and vice versa. Seafood was fresh and this definitely filled us up given that it was only 6 rolls and 3 aburi sushi per order. It's unique in its sense it's sort of like a omakase but not. However it is in the pricier side of things, our bill came up to $100. I did enjoy it and service was friendly and efficient. I will be back for sure.

I'm soo happy that Hello Nori has opened in Toronto! They have the best hand rolls - crispy seaweed, fresh fish, and warm seasoned rice. The interior is upscale-casual with a beautiful ceiling, and they offer welcoming and inviting service. Seating is all at their sushi bar so you can watch your food being made fresh to-order. I always order the 6 hand roll combo, which is a pre set list of negitoro, yellow tail, ora king salmon, hokkaido scallop (my fave), snow crab, and truffle lobster. It never disappoints. Price is also very reasonable for the overall high-quality experience you're getting. I highly recommend this to everyone!

    Shrimp hand roll
    Donna S.

We got 2 orders of the 4 hand roll set. I enjoyed 2 of them - king salmon and tuna. The crab roll and shrimp roll however were overpowered by the mayo based marinade and not my thing. Also , overall, there's not as much fish in the handroll as the photo in their window shows. ( See below photos). It's really close to us and the service and decor is really good so we'll probably try it again and order a la carte.
