"Colombians eat GOOD!" was the resounding approval from my 7-year-old nephew in between inhaling bites of rotisserie chicken. Today I introduced him to Hello Chicken and changed his life. I stumbled across Hello Chicken literally right before I moved away from Charlotte. Located in an unassuming shopping center in Pineville, they've apparently been open for a couple of years now. Based on the timing, I'm guessing they opened shortly after I moved from South Charlotte to the University area or else I would've known about them a long time ago. Hello Chicken serves Colombian rotisserie chicken, similar to Viva Chicken but infinitely better. It's by far more flavorful and juicy; perfectly marinated from the skin to the bone. The only place that edges them out in flavor is Pollo Campero. I ordered the half chicken meal, mixed dark and white meat. It came with two small sides so I went with black beans and yellow rice, plus I got a separate mac and cheese for my nephew. The rice was fluffy and the beans were superb in flavor. I spooned some over my rice which nicely soaked up the sauce from the beans. I tasted some of his mac and cheese; it was pretty good. Not baked, but still very cheese-saucy. For smalls, all three sides can actually serve two people each. I really enjoy Hello Chicken whenever I come back to Charlotte. I hope they expand throughout the area so more people discover some really, really good rotisserie. Loved this place! I went to order takeout and was there for just a short time. However, service was prompt and friendly. I love their motivational wall behond the counter. It has inspirational quotes, bible verses etc. Super cute. I orderd 1/2 chicken all dark with broccoli and chicken soup. When I got home I noticed that instead of soup, I received black beans. Now I do not like beans (just want to throw that out there) but I figured why not taste it at least *shrugs*. WOW WEE, those beans were absolutely delicious. This was our second dinner at this impressive little family run Columbian rotisserie chicken joint. Service is friendly and attentive, the entire restaurant is imacculate and the food is excellent. You order at the counter and it is quickly delivered to your table. Food is served on paper plates along with plastic utensils which is okay by me. Fountain drinks and housemade juices are available. After being happily offered any samples we wanted, we settled on the quarter chicken with rice and plantains for $6.95, the chicken soup, and the pulled chicken salad. The chicken breast on the salad was a bit dry but everything else was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious including their homemade sauces. I didn't order the empanadas this time around but they were also delicious on our first visit. Dining room atmosphere is simple but comfortable. The manager stopped by twice to check on us. Everything was good! The rice was perfectly cooked and the beans had a lot of flavor. We could have ordered a large rice and small beans and that would have been enough. We tried all 3 sauces from mild to hot, green, yellow and red. All were herbal and perfect to dip chicken pieces in. The sides of fried yucca, cooked sweet plantains, and garden salad we're awesome. Huge salad with tons of veggies and good greens. The passion fruit dressing is sweet and yummy. The yucca was crispy and the plantains caramelized perfect. Service was so helpful and nice. Outstanding! I ordered delivery by GrubHub via Yelp two times. The first time, I assumed I made a mistake and accidentally ordered it for takeout, so I called the store to let them know they could toss my original order and then ordered again from GrubHub via Yelp again making absolutely certain I chose delivery. However, it went through as takeout again. The good people at Hello Chicken called me to let me know that my second order had not come through as delivery either. While I was on the phone with GrubHub trying to figure out what was going on, the restaurant sent one of their own people over to deliver my food. I was staying in a hotel for work, exhausted from a long week, hadn't eaten all day and fighting sleep. Had they not brought me my food, I would have just gone to sleep without eating. I've been wanting to try this place for a while. I wasn't disappointed! I was greeted by a friendly staff member who patiently explained the menu to me. I ordered the Dorian Chicken wrap and a side salad. The wrap was filling, flavorful, and delicious. You could even go without it, but eating it with their sauces was an added bonus. Excellent! We love finding gems like this. The chicken was cooked so well it just fell off the bone, yellow rice and vegetables super full of flavor and we also got sides of broccoli which were cooked just the way we like. We also got the spicy sauce to dip the chicken in. It was definitely spicy, which we were warned about, but also really very packed with flavor. A little bit went a very long way. Found this restaurant through Yelp. Its a fresh, modern looking, order at the counter restaurant. Very charming location located in the Tower Place Shopping Center on 51. Look for the yellow colored letters on their signage. The family and staff working at the restaurant could not be friendlier, they made our visit! They found out that it was our first time at their restaurant and were very adamant about sampling their food before buying: mini tray of samples included pulled chicken, two types of beans, chicken soup, vegan soup, rice with vegetables, all delicious! They also had us sample their juices: a pineapple with mint, passion fruit and a third one that was red but I cant remember what it was. We ordered the passion fruit juice with our meal. It was very fresh tasting but a tad on the sweet side. My parents loved their juice, as they grew up on this stuff and it reminded them of home. Food: Opted for the family special for $23.99 which included 5-6 pieces of rotisserie chicken and 3 large sides. We had the rice with vegetables, black beans and yuca fries. Also decided to order the 5 empanadas for $7.95. The empanadas had chicken and potatoes in them. They looked small on the plate but were very filling! Rotisserie chicken was very good. Rice and black beans were ok. Loved the yuca fries! They had sauce galore, they brought out three types of sauces with our food. The green one was my favorite-although it had a little kick to it! I asked how it compared to Viva chicken and they said Viva was tastier with more spices. My personal meal was fantastic. I got the pork ribs. All of their sauces are handmade. I used the spicy one. I had the chicken Dorian bowl. Huge! Believe me. Couldn't finish it. I thought that no chicken bowl could beat "Chipotle's", again wrong! Every single ingredient has a unique flavor. The bowl comes with avocado (not guacamole). Hot rice and Dorian chicken with red beans. Lettuce pico (delicious) sour cream and cheese. A huge bowl with avocado for $8,50. Cool deal! Hello chicken was extremely clean and employees were cleaning all the time. That is a great way to like a spot or restaurant for me. Cleanness. We even had a $5 discount with a coupon we got from the mail. Amazing. Another thing that I liked: they have Coca-Cola products in the drink machine. Nice variety of desserts. And they have empanadas. You can takeout your order or ask the delivery. (check first if it's available for you). Only thing I would recommend the owner is about the pineapple and mint juice. We were staring at the menu board for a while when a young lady asked us if we had been there and then she proceeded to give us samples. I ultimately decided on the rotisserie chicken. They also have a dish called chicken Dorian and empanadas. I honestly want to go back and try a full size oh chicken Dorian. The chicken was tender and it was in a tomato like sauce, but tastes like another dish my family makes. I got a quarter chicken, white meat, with black beans, rice with vegetables and the chicken soup. The star was of course, the chicken. So flavorful and juicy with the chicken falling off the bone. We found hello chicken via yelp and gave it a try. We were only able to get take out but this place is a hidden gem. Food prices were reasonable and the service was quick and fast.
